"What did I say to him, not longer than one hour ago.", grumbles Gilian. "As if we had resources to spare."
Nevertheless, she kneels by the wounded to treat him then examine his wounds to determine their origin.

When he opens his eyes, Gilian tone is dry: ”Good thing we decided not to rest all night, don't you think? You would have bled and died alone. Sometimes is best to be lucky than good. So what happened to you."
Gilian |
"Mmmm...Looks like you were attacked by a plant of some kind. This looks more like a rash than anything else. Let's be careful."
Standing up, Gilian casts a healing spell to put Lyj back on his feet.

Sorrow, the Grey Blade of Tears |
if duncan's coming near ragnar there's a will save involved.
anyone near Duncan can hear the following
"Flatterer. I may be young, but I carry the memories of an entire people, from a time before they were defeated and disgraced. There are times when I feel older than you can imagine. Bloodshed is a welcome distraction from all that. There is... life in it... i guess. Or maybe it's just because that's what I'm made for. I don't know. I often wonder why Ragnar so often chooses that old spear over me. I am not an ornament or some bauble to be saved for fear of breaking me. Though I suppose I have little fear of that from you..."
Lyj |
Lyj staggers back to his feet once more, placing a hand on the wall for support. His mouth is tight with frustration and pain. "I don't understand it. I took every precaution, but..."
He shakes his head, and looks up at Gillian. "It seems I owe you an apology. And my thanks, again. I..." He gives a slight pause, as if considering something. "I owe you a debt."

"Let me try something again. This is another plant like creature."
Reaching deep within herself, Gilian send calming thoughts to the plant, trying to override its instincts.
Using Master of Nature affinity to command the plant.
Command Check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21, HD of creatures controlled:2d6 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 + 3 = 12.
If the creature is 3HD or less, Gilian can control it. If it's 6HD or less, it cowers for 10 rounds: no actions, -2 to AC.

After the stone plant, the tunnel seems to widen, but it goes down as well. Soon it become obvious that you'll have to climb down if you want to go further, but the stone is slippery from the condensation.
Ilona Ebonblade |
Ilona produces a 50ft coil of rope, looking over the edge.
"It's not that bad, I think we can all handle this pretty well. C'mon, after everything we've faced a little climb isn't going to stop us is it."
Her words, and almost jovial tone carry a power that seems to uplift, shoring up the confidence of the others.
Casting assist, then using Muse ability. All in the area recieve a total +3 to skill check (specifically climb)up to one round after she stops talking. She will continue making light conversation for the whole climb down. That plus rope reduces the DC by 5 if I'm not mistaken
Sorok Hamfael |
Survival1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24 Sorok nods his agreenment to Gilians observation of the nearby water source.
Oooh boy a climb check with my huge penalties. Right, time to put some of those fate points to work. Spending 4 of those to grant me a skill point in climbing.
Climb1d20 + 7 - 9 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 9 - 2 = 16
Woot for rolling a twenty when you need it most!!!

Gilian's Pebble |
As Gilian looks down the slope, unsure on how to proceed, Pebble comes back to her, having secured the rope.
"Going down is easy, Mistress. Rock is you friend. Look, I will make steps for you."
The little elemental fuse with the stone, living only his hands out as footholds.
Aid another Climb 1d20 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 3 = 13
Lyj |
Lyj seems oddly withdrawn, even through the brief encounter with the rock creature. He tenses slightly, watching it with wary anticipation, but then Gillian simply looks at it, and it subsides. His gaze lingers on the tiny human for a moment, wonder mixing with confusion. When the come to the cliff, Lyj waits for his turn, starts the descent in silence.
Climb 1d20 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 3 = 19
And finishes it the same way, looking around at the bottom with quiet caution.

A smell of water welcomes you as soon as you descend down the cliff. The sound of dripping and long intervals between sounds tell you that you are in a large cave with high ceiling. There is no sign of how did the mushroom-men arrived to the tunnel where they kept watch, since there are no stairs or paths leading there, and you have not found any tunnels but the one you used to get where you are now.
Sorok Hamfael |
After precariously making his way down the cliff, Sorok walks about the cavern staying at the edge of the ghostly light. Using his practiced eyes and knowledge of the underground, he searches for the source of the water and any potential threats to the group.

Chops the Defender Dworg |
... the swarm of hands moves back, interposing themselves between brain and Chops, and the rest of the undead body parts move as well. The brain then starts to float back, from where he came from and his minions are following him...
And Chops taunts, "And don't come back or you'll some more of that!"

Ragnar Death-Speaker |
Three of the spirit torches rise higher and spread out as far as they can without leaving the party in darkness. The last, drifting from it's usual home in the jewel on Requiem's hilt, glides quickly down the shore, drifting back and forth to sweep the area with light, giving the group some advance warning of the terrain and layout of the path before them.
Lyj |
Solvistania gives a tired sigh. Clearly the time spent down here was taking a toll on her frail body. Still, she rises to her feet quickly, saying "The Herald is on his way...we must hurry from here.
Lyj nods, face grim at the reminder of the Herald and its dire warning. "Aye."

Ragnar's lights illuminate the immediate surroundings of the Bonebearers and associates. You are indeed at the shores of an underground lake. The strand curves to the right and disappears into the blackness of the underworld. The stone has the same markings that you found on the edge of the tunnel with mushroom guards. They seem to lead straight along the underground lake's shore.

Could you give us the dimensions and layout of this area? How much water and how much land, etc? Thanks.

All that you have is the range of Ragnar's lights and/or your darkvision. Standing where you are, you can not see much except what I described. Essentially, you need to explore your surroundings to gain more knowledge of it. What is obvious, though, is that this is not a constricted tunnel where there's room for just one or two of you to walk abreast. This is large cave and even on the shore of the underground lake there is enough room for all of you to walk shoulder to shoulder and the ceiling is so far away that you can't see it.
Ragnar Death-Speaker |
"I disagree Chops. We are in no condition to fight, and we do not know that the Herald will be coming alone. We should press on as long as we can. We can always double back to the most defensible position if the appointed hour approaches without having found an escape or more suitable place to hold."
Duncan Bloodforged |
I would advise diamond formation, with hitters/tanks on points and casters in the middle for the exploration of the cave
"I wouldn't be so sure that Herald will come at the appointed hour. But if we were to meet him, I would also agree to do it here, but not out in the open. We wait for him in the bottom of that steep tunnel. That way we can surround whatever comes out of the tunnel, while still keeping the swarm inside the tunnel with a chance for it to just fall down the slope and end up at our feet. And if organs come, it wouldn't be that bad if we take fear, for we wouldn't be able to run towards them, and we could take them down with projectiles. But first, we should explore the cave, just to make sure nothing will jump on us from behind while we fight Herald"
