Game Master nightflier

Set in the grim world of Aryth, Nightflier's Midnight is a game that speaks of almost futile hope that shines against the darkness.

Heal check to determine the wounds origin 1d20+12

When he opens his eyes, Gilian tone is dry: ”Good thing we decided not to rest all night, don't you think? You would have bled and died alone. Sometimes is best to be lucky than good. So what happened to you."

Gilian:
His wounds look like a violent rash that can be caused by some plants, but taken to extremes.

Female Erenlander Spiritual Chaneller 5

"Mmmm...Looks like you were attacked by a plant of some kind. This looks more like a rash than anything else. Let's be careful."

Standing up, Gilian casts a healing spell to put Lyj back on his feet.

Nightflier:
With this heal check, has Gilian determined that Lyj is not human?

Gil:
Yes.

Female Intelligent Bastard Sword

if duncan's coming near ragnar there's a will save involved.

anyone near Duncan can hear the following

Spoiler:

"Flatterer. I may be young, but I carry the memories of an entire people, from a time before they were defeated and disgraced. There are times when I feel older than you can imagine. Bloodshed is a welcome distraction from all that. There is... life in it... i guess. Or maybe it's just because that's what I'm made for. I don't know. I often wonder why Ragnar so often chooses that old spear over me. I am not an ornament or some bauble to be saved for fear of breaking me. Though I suppose I have little fear of that from you..."

Male Tiefling (Daemon-Spawn) Arcanist 1

Lyj staggers back to his feet once more, placing a hand on the wall for support. His mouth is tight with frustration and pain. "I don't understand it. I took every precaution, but..."

He shakes his head, and looks up at Gillian. "It seems I owe you an apology. And my thanks, again. I..." He gives a slight pause, as if considering something. "I owe you a debt."

Solvi:
Judging by the story that Lyj has told about his injuries, you have found the thing that hurt him. A large rocklike plant or mushroom perhaps clutches the wall few yards in front of the party. It seems that it has sensed your footsteps somehow, because the cracks seem to appear on its surface and something akin to the yellow gas seeps out of them, but Chops - who is at the point - is still far enough from it not to be affected.

"Hold up, here." Solvistania points to the strange mushroom like creature. "That is an obstacle, which must be removed."

Female Erenlander Spiritual Chaneller 5

"Let me try something again. This is another plant like creature."

Reaching deep within herself, Gilian send calming thoughts to the plant, trying to override its instincts.

Using Master of Nature affinity to command the plant.
Command Check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21, HD of creatures controlled:2d6 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 + 3 = 12.
If the creature is 3HD or less, Gilian can control it. If it's 6HD or less, it cowers for 10 rounds: no actions, -2 to AC.

Dark Archive

As soon as Gilian bends it to her will, the stone-like plant seems to go to sleep, and the yellow gas-like mist stops seeping from its pores.

Female Erenlander Spiritual Chaneller 5

"Let's move. It should be safe."

Dark Archive

After the stone plant, the tunnel seems to widen, but it goes down as well. Soon it become obvious that you'll have to climb down if you want to go further, but the stone is slippery from the condensation.

Survival DC 15:
There is a water source nearby.
It will probably be difficult to climb down, especially since you can't see the end of the cliff. Climb DC 15. Don't forget penalties for armor.

Female Erenlander Spiritual Chaneller 5

Survival 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15

"There must be a water source somewhere nearby. The rock is really slippery out there."

Unsure of her footing, Gilian peers down. "If someone has a rope, Pebble can anchor it and climb back to get it down"

Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3

Ilona produces a 50ft coil of rope, looking over the edge.

"It's not that bad, I think we can all handle this pretty well. C'mon, after everything we've faced a little climb isn't going to stop us is it."

Her words, and almost jovial tone carry a power that seems to uplift, shoring up the confidence of the others.

Casting assist, then using Muse ability. All in the area recieve a total +3 to skill check (specifically climb)up to one round after she stops talking. She will continue making light conversation for the whole climb down. That plus rope reduces the DC by 5 if I'm not mistaken

Climb 1d20 + 5 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 3 = 27

Almost with no effort, Duncan climbs down the rope, all the while watching for signs of danger.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Survival1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24 Sorok nods his agreenment to Gilians observation of the nearby water source.

Oooh boy a climb check with my huge penalties. Right, time to put some of those fate points to work. Spending 4 of those to grant me a skill point in climbing.

Climb1d20 + 7 - 9 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 9 - 2 = 16
Woot for rolling a twenty when you need it most!!!

Sorrow:
You are wrong in calling me a flatterer, I truly respect you, and the people you come from, for in part they are my ancestors as well. As for Ragnar, though you are indeed beautiful, your purpose is war, and you are made to spill blood, but do not think he chooses the spear over you on purpose. You have seen the battles we were in. Ragnar was never in the first line, strong he might be, but his talents lie in magic that might be foiled by armor, as I'm sure you know, so he wears very little protection. For that reason, other people, such are Sorok, Chops, who is made for war and it seems has to put himself in harms way, and myself who hold the first lines. And with spear, he fights from background. That is why you are not used as often as you would've liked. It's just battle tactics. And now in my hands, you might get to be in first lines. As for the breaking part... well, that was a bit of bad luck, but nor would you break so easily, nor would I allow it. Together, we will sow death in the ranks of our enemies. Final death for some.

Female Intelligent Bastard Sword

Though none in the group really know why, as they finish the climb down the rope they are stuck with feelings of excited anticipation, like a young lady bouncing on her toes and clapping her hands, scarcely able to contain herself.

Earth Elemental Familiar 5

As Gilian looks down the slope, unsure on how to proceed, Pebble comes back to her, having secured the rope.

"Going down is easy, Mistress. Rock is you friend. Look, I will make steps for you."

The little elemental fuse with the stone, living only his hands out as footholds.

Aid another Climb 1d20 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 3 = 13

Female Erenlander Spiritual Chaneller 5

Hands on the rope and with the help of Pebble , Gilian walks down the cliff.

Climb DC10 1d20 - 1 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (19) - 1 + 3 + 2 = 23

Once safely down, she thanks Pebble and send him back up to retrieve the rope.

Male Tiefling (Daemon-Spawn) Arcanist 1

Lyj seems oddly withdrawn, even through the brief encounter with the rock creature. He tenses slightly, watching it with wary anticipation, but then Gillian simply looks at it, and it subsides. His gaze lingers on the tiny human for a moment, wonder mixing with confusion. When the come to the cliff, Lyj waits for his turn, starts the descent in silence.

Climb 1d20 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 3 = 19

And finishes it the same way, looking around at the bottom with quiet caution.

Dark Archive

A smell of water welcomes you as soon as you descend down the cliff. The sound of dripping and long intervals between sounds tell you that you are in a large cave with high ceiling. There is no sign of how did the mushroom-men arrived to the tunnel where they kept watch, since there are no stairs or paths leading there, and you have not found any tunnels but the one you used to get where you are now.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

After precariously making his way down the cliff, Sorok walks about the cavern staying at the edge of the ghostly light. Using his practiced eyes and knowledge of the underground, he searches for the source of the water and any potential threats to the group.

Please add to your profile how you spent the FPs and don't forget to add that skill point.

Sorok:
Your eyes see further into dark than the eyes of your comrades. You are indeed at the shores of an underground lake. The strand curves to the right and disappears into the blackness of the underworld. the stone has the same markings that you found on the edge of the tunnel with mushroom guards. They seem to lead straight along the undeground lake's shore.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

After inspecting the nearby surroundings Sorok moves back to the group reporting what he had discovered. "We're near a lake an' ther're markin's on t'stone like b'fore. I' continues past me sigh'."

Solvistania gives a tired sigh. Clearly the time spent down here was taking a toll on her frail body. Still, she rises to her feet quickly, saying "The Herald is on his way...we must hurry from here.

male Dorn Barbarian 2, Spiritual Channeler 2

Three of the spirit torches rise higher and spread out as far as they can without leaving the party in darkness. The last, drifting from it's usual home in the jewel on Requiem's hilt, glides quickly down the shore, drifting back and forth to sweep the area with light, giving the group some advance warning of the terrain and layout of the path before them.

Lyj nods, face grim at the reminder of the Herald and its dire warning. "Aye."

Ragnar's lights illuminate the immediate surroundings of the Bonebearers and associates. You are indeed at the shores of an underground lake. The strand curves to the right and disappears into the blackness of the underworld. The stone has the same markings that you found on the edge of the tunnel with mushroom guards. They seem to lead straight along the underground lake's shore.

Dark Archive

The darkness is too deep and too great for you to discern anything else. Herald is coming and those mushroom guards that you have slain must have come from somewhere...

Could you give us the dimensions and layout of this area? How much water and how much land, etc? Thanks.

All that you have is the range of Ragnar's lights and/or your darkvision. Standing where you are, you can not see much except what I described. Essentially, you need to explore your surroundings to gain more knowledge of it. What is obvious, though, is that this is not a constricted tunnel where there's room for just one or two of you to walk abreast. This is large cave and even on the shore of the underground lake there is enough room for all of you to walk shoulder to shoulder and the ceiling is so far away that you can't see it.

Thanks again.

Chops takes a step into the large cave, and puts his hands on his hips. "I think this may be as good a spot to meet the herald as any. We should dig in."

Solvistania looks at Durathoin, her face unreadable. "Would it not be wiser to at least see if there is a more defensible position, before the Herald makes his appearance?"

"My love, one problem that has been plaguing us in these caverns is bottlenecking. I figure in here, we might have the ability to surround this fiend." The dworg shrugs his shoulders.

male Dorn Barbarian 2, Spiritual Channeler 2

"I disagree Chops. We are in no condition to fight, and we do not know that the Herald will be coming alone. We should press on as long as we can. We can always double back to the most defensible position if the appointed hour approaches without having found an escape or more suitable place to hold."

Dark Archive

OK, guys. Do you wait for Herald here, or do you press on? If you do go on, I'll need your configuration, since there is no need to walk in line here.

I would advise diamond formation, with hitters/tanks on points and casters in the middle for the exploration of the cave

"I wouldn't be so sure that Herald will come at the appointed hour. But if we were to meet him, I would also agree to do it here, but not out in the open. We wait for him in the bottom of that steep tunnel. That way we can surround whatever comes out of the tunnel, while still keeping the swarm inside the tunnel with a chance for it to just fall down the slope and end up at our feet. And if organs come, it wouldn't be that bad if we take fear, for we wouldn't be able to run towards them, and we could take them down with projectiles. But first, we should explore the cave, just to make sure nothing will jump on us from behind while we fight Herald"
