Kyrus Vincenzo |
My notes say that 2hp damage of my -5 total was non-lethal from falling down the rope earlier. I'll check that when I get back to base in about 3 hours. If true, and if the heal check is ok, then in 1 hour I'm only at -2 due to non-lethal. What does that mean?

Kyrus Vincenzo |
Assuming the party (and the GM) are willing to wait around for an hour until Kyrus comes to...
After an hour, and the Doctor's careful ministrations, Kyrus finally stirs. Looking pale and in some pain, he looks on in horror at his mangled arm and blood-soaked kit. "What happened? he says, "What were those things? Are they gone?"
Still lying on the dusty tomb floor, he lapses into solemn prayer. A moment later, a glow of white light envelops him, and as it subsides, a partially healed Kyrus sits back up. Retrieving his knives he turns to check the others wounds, "Thank you Rashim, Doctor for your assistance - I owe you a blood debt. Anyone else wounded and need curing? Or, was it just me injured by those monsters? I know you still have a potion, Caius."
See the other tab for my hp calcs and CLW roll
Caius Jeggare |
I'm willing to spend an hour within the alter room. While we tend to Kyrus.
Caius watches as Hibbins tends to Kyrus. He sits against the wall and takes his canteen out from his pack, taking a few sips.
Later as Kyrus awakes from his wounds he gets up. "I'm glad you made it Kyrus. Those creatures were quite dangerous."
He looks around at his comrades. "The creatures cut me open fairly well and I think Marius got injured as well. I did have a single potion of healing..." he says as he quaffs the potion.
Potion of Cure Light Wounds.
Potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
He then continues, "I'll be fine. Use your magic on yourself or Marius."
Kyrus Vincenzo |
Kyrus further invokes the power of Pharasma to heal Marius (1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 x 1.5 = 12 hp healed), in exchange for his final level 1 spell.
That's it guys - all healing potions and spells exhausted...
Akbari Radjziic |
Akbari cleaned off his weapon after making sure that Kyrus had been laid out comfortably. He helped the others secure the door and search the room thoroughly.
"If we are low on healing and there are injuries among you, we can rest here if we need to." He looked at each of them. "If we continue, how well off are you all? Do you wish to continue on a bit more and then rest, or rest now?"
Caius Jeggare |
Caius begins to search around the alter chamber, being meticulous in his search, while listening to his companions.
Take 20 on Perception for a total of 27.
"I think since we used up our potions and healing magics, it would seem a waste to rest now. I'd say we press on cautiously for now."
Kyrus Vincenzo |
"Are you sure, Caius? As I understand it, we have exclusive rights to explore our allocated tomb. Time is not an issue. If we rest now, we start again fully healed and with all our magical powers. If we push on until injured, then rest, we start the next day already at reduced potency. I would suggest we rest now."
Guys let's make a call one way or the other, and get this back moving again. we're in danger of losing momentumn.
Akbari Radjziic |
Akbari frowned in thought a moment and then shrugged. "Let us search just a bit longer. If we run in to trouble again...or once we have searched say two more rooms?...we will rest. Sound good?" He looked to the others to see if they agreed on searching a bit more or resting so long as a decision was made.
Rashim Shehadeh |
Rashim rolls his shoulders a little, shrugs and says "I'm good either way." He begins spinning a rock in the air above his hands, trying to move it in smaller and smaller circles. "Though with no more healing magics available to us, if someone falls again," he says, allowing the rock to drop to the ground with a thud, "we will have no way to revive them. Not planning on falling, though, so either way."
Kyrus Vincenzo |
Ever impatient, Kyrus accepts the group's decision; "Right let's go then!"
He advanced to the western staircase, looking down into the gloom...

Kyrus Vincenzo |
...then looked back over his shoulder wondering where everyone else was, and why they had gone so quiet. "Guys...? Are you coming?"

Akbari Radjziic |
Akbari followed right along with the two over-eager companions, his large sword in hand already in case they ran in to danger. This time he would try to be prepared and ready.
GM Wulfson |
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
From your vantage point you can see that something, or several somethings, have burrowed through the southern wall causing it to collapse. Chunks of masonry, piles of sand, dirt, and rubble lie scattered on the steps making passage difficult.
A set of double doors, adorned with the same scarab and sun motif as the doors a the top, stand closed at the bottom of the stairs.
Kyrus Vincenzo |
"Something has come through here - through the rock into the tomb. Yet...those spider like creatures don't look like burrowers to me. We should be cautious here. Those doors are sealed - if we have not yet met the creatures which did this, then they could be still in the rubble..."
Gm Kyrus cautiously casts his eye over the debris and spilt rubble. Does this look like the work of animals, or humanoids? Does it look like the debris is fresh?
Kyrus cautiously approaches the debris pile, making for the doorway...
Akbari Radjziic |
Akbari stretched a bit, rolling head about on his shoulders to work the kinks out of his neck. He listened to Kyrus, pondered the words and then gave a nod. He moved towards the debris pile along with the man, weapon in hand. His eyes narrowed as he looked at it, even as he moved closer, trying to see if there was any movement or anything out of place.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28.
Caius Jeggare |
After searching around the alter room, Caius hustles and catches up with his comrades.
"Anyone have any ideas as to what caused that?" he says pointing at the collapsed wall.
GM Wulfson |
Caius carefully examines the altar and the room but doesn't find anything of note or worth.
Kyrus: Survival check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Kyrus examines the detritus on the stairwell as he descends and the best he figure is that some creature or creatures, long ago, burrowed through the southern wall causing it to collapse and that other creatures may have use the tunnels to enter the tomb.
Perception:
Caius: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Dr. Hibbins: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Kyrus: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Marius: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Rashim: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Distracted by the debris around him Kyrus is unaware of the danger he's in until shouts from Akbari and Rashim alert him, as the sand beneath his feet begins to swirl and coalesce into a large serpentine creature.
the creature is known as a Sandling, an elemental creature from the plane of earth.
Immunity to bleed, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning.
Not subject to critical hits or flanking. Does not take additional damage from precision-based attacks, such as sneak attack.
Proficient with natural weapons only, unless generally humanoid in form, in which case proficient with all simple weapons and any weapons mentioned in its entry.
Proficient with whatever type of armor (light, medium, or heavy) it is described as wearing, as well as all lighter types. Elementals not indicated as wearing armor are not proficient with armor. Elementals are proficient with shields if they are proficient with any form of armor.
Elementals do not breathe, eat, or sleep.
Besides the traits common with all elementals, Sandlings are particularly resistant to attacks with Piercing and Slashing weapons, which will not do as much damage as Bludgeoning weapons.
Sandling are susceptible to water. All water based attacks do additional damage and for every two gallons of water that hit the Sandling the creature is slowed for one round
Initiative:
Akbari: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Caius: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Dr. Hibbins: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Kyrus: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Marius: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Rashim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Creature: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Surprise round:
The creature gets to go first, followed by Rashim and Akbari.
The creature rears up and strikes at Kyrus. Despite catching the Warpriest unawares, the creature misses with it's abrasive bite.
Attack roll (bite): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
I just kind of scooted everyone over to the stairs, so please place yourself on the map as appropriate.
Akbari Radjziic |
Akbari saw the danger but wasn't quite quick enough to stop Kyrus from being attacked. Luckily, the creature didn't manage to gain any purchase with its bite on the ally. Akbari stepped forward with his falchion in hand and took a mighty overhead chop at the creature.
Melee attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2) + 4 = 7
Crit Threat: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Rashim Shehadeh |
"Ha! That's new!" Rashim sends a nearby rock shooting toward the sand snake.
Telekinetic blast, PBS
Attack, PBS: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6
He is overeager, though, and the rock doesn't come anywhere close to the beast. Looking sheepish, he steps back to make room for others.
GM Wulfson |
Akbari steps up and swings his falchion into the creatures side but the creature barely registers any pain as it's sandy "flesh" easily parts and reforms from the blade's passage.
Rashim levitates one of the chunks of fallen masonry and launches it. Unfortunately he is as taken aback by the creature's sudden appearance as everyone else and his missile sails harmlessly over everyone's head and crashes into the wall.
Round one begins with Kyrus, followed by the creature, and then everyone else.
Kyrus Vincenzo |
"Uh, guys, some help needed here..." yelps Kyrus as the large snake-like being rises up above him. Somewhat wary following his near brush with death, Kyrus holsters one kukri then adopts a defensive stance with the other, weaving it in front of him in a protective whirl:
kukri #1, defensive posture: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Nice attack roll. Still, at least my AC is improved; for this round AC=20
GM Wulfson |
Kyrus, also unnerved by the creatures sudden appearance, sheathes one of his kukris and takes a step back into a defensive position. Once set he takes a tentative strike at the thing and misses.
The creature's body twists to confront the one who struck it, Akbari. Lunging for the Ranger it overestimates it's attack and crashes into the wall beside the Ranger.
Attack roll (bite): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Two consecutive crit fails! Can we have more monsters like this please?

Caius Jeggare |
Caius watches in shock as the sand creature lashes at his companions. He tumbles away from the creature to the top of the stairs, pulling a flask from his bandolier as he moves.
Attempts to leave the creatures reach safely. Spending a point of Panache.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Derring-Do: 1d6 ⇒ 3 = 12 Acrobatics
Then hurls a flask of Alchemist's Fire at the sand creature.
Aiming for the creatures North Western square to avoid splash on the others.
Alchemist's Fire: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Fire Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Akbari Radjziic |
Akbari stayed put where he was and somehow managed to not get hit or killed by the monster. No one was more surprised than he was by the lack of death or injury. He swung the large sword once more at the creature, hoping to do more to it than he did in his previous swing, going in a strong and wide arc through the middle of the creature - but it seemed to do the same or even less than the previous swing. He let out a small growl.
Melee attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6
Marius Vorloren |
As a swift action Marius activates his luck and descends the stairs to attack the creature.
Attack roll: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 2 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8
Dr. Hibbins |
Going to assume the first shot missed since you didn't bring it up.
direction off of first throw.: 1d8 ⇒ 5 Would splash against the far door.
touch ac: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 d4 if non construct or undead d8, if construct or undead: 1d4 + 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + (2) + 5 = 10 And that is the one problem with not knowing which die to use. when your construct damage is less. 8 non 7 if.
incase 14 misses touch.: 1d8 ⇒ 2 Would hit Marius and Kyrus with splash if I missed touch this time.
Hibbins flings another vial of chemicals in to the fight.
Rashim Shehadeh |
Rashim dances from side to side, trying to find an opening between all his companions. Seeing a gap, he rapidly sends another piece of rubble darting past them to the sand creature.
Attack, PBS, Cover: 1d20 + 4 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 1 - 4 = 18
Damage, PBS, Bludgeoning: 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 8
GM Wulfson |
Sorry Doc. I saw it, but only Rashim and Akbari spotted the creature hiding and were the only ones capable of going in the surprise round. I was going to use your initial roll as your round 1 action
GM Wulfson |
Akbari and Marius both land their strikes and are dismayed when the damage the creature takes doesn't seem appropriate to the amount they dished out.
Both Caius and Doc Hibbins lob grenades over the heads of their comrades, landing them near what they assume would be the "backside" of the creature. The creature roars in pain as the fire fuses some of it's sandy body into glass and the acid sizzles and pops more of the sand.
Rashim's missile strikes the creature full on and seems to do more damage to it than either of the swordsmen's blows.
Top of round two with Kyrus.
Kyrus Vincenzo |
Amid a hail of sword blows and hurled projectiles, Kyrus winces as particles of sand fly from the beast's body, mixed with glass shards, flaming oil and pebbles of rock. Once again he swings his kukri defensively; perhaps this time more wary of being damaged by the help from his party than from the creature's ire.
kukri no. 1, defensive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15; damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
AC20 again.

GM Wulfson |
The creature loses cohesion as it turns into a pile of sand which then disappears into the earth beneath the tiles on the floor.
Caius Jeggare |
Caius catches his breathe and proceeds down the stairs. "Yeah. Hopefully our luck keeps up." he says as he grins.
He then begins to look over the door cautiously.
Take 20 on a Perception for a total of 27.
Kyrus Vincenzo |
Kyrus stirs the now inert sand with his foot, looking to see if there is anything but sand within the creatures body, then cautiously peers into the hole in the wall.
Turning to the others, "We said we'd push on a little further before resting. I'm happy to continue now, but remember we have no more healing. It would be foolish to leave it until someone is seriously injured before we rest. "

Kyrus Vincenzo |
GM: let's say that we jam the door of that last room, take turns to take watch, and rest for 12 hours.
To save time, can we please assume that (unless something happens) we then return to where we left off, and resume our checking of the door at the foot of the steps?
-Posted with Wayfinder
Caius Jeggare |
Caius shrugs and makes his way back to the alter room. "That works for me. I suppose a bit of rest would do all of us some good, better to be rested and alive then rush ahead and die."
GM Wulfson |
Deciding that discretion is the better part of valor, the group heads back to the Preparation Room to recuperate. After setting watches the party hunkers down for the night.
Despite the musty smell of the tomb everyone manages to get some sleep and rises, if not exactly refreshed, at least rested.
Akbari Radjziic |
Akbari gave a nod. It seemed the logical thing to do, and it wasn't a race to the finish, it was a marathon. He took first watch to allow some of his battered companions to rest and try to heal back up before they headed out again.
Caius Jeggare |
After resting in the uncomfortable tomb Caius gets up rubbing the sleep from his eyes, then rummages through his pack.
He pulls forth a Canteen and a small pack of dried meat and fruit. Which he begins to greedily consume, in between eating he speaks. "Does anyone else need any food? I've got an extra portion."
Then after packing his stuff away he checks his gear and readies himself.
