Gezza's spell hits Plugg directly in the face, catching the pirate by surprise as he takes the full brunt of it without Scourge blocking some of its effect. He staggers, dropping his blade and whip onto Cargas' unmoving body. Budos takes advantage and plunges his axe into the back of the man's skull, and he falls like a pole-axed steer, landing on the dwarf.

Next to him, Nim sinks an arrow into Scourge, though Magilla seems distracted by seeing one tormentor fall, and waves his arms more in celebration than any effort to take out Scourge.

Brood's blade misses Maheem as Rosie moves in behind him, though he spots her and is able to deflect his blade before it can land. The big man slashes at Brood, who ducks under the cut; next to him, Barefoot Samms lets out a cry as she can't fend off Jape, whose blow drops her unconscious to the ground.

The half-orc grabs some rope, and ties up the Rahadoumi sailor. The scent of blood coming from the fallen man makes Nim pause, as he smells at the wounds briefly. Retreating back as far from the others as they can, Gezza lowers his voice. "Here's the situation as I see it: we just killed the 'captain' and his first mate. His colleagues will probably fall in line, but they'll fall a lot faster if they have a familiar structure, a chain of command they're used to. He passes another dirty rag to Gezza for his bloodstained hands. "Imagine, wizard, access to all the scrolls and spells yer heart desires." Bud fishes a small metal lockpick from a hidden pocket in his vest and hands it to the elf. "Think, Brood, of all the hidden magics we can find that you can weave together with steel." Lastly, he hands a final bit of rag, this one's bright colors somehow escaping the sun bleaching of the ship. On Plugg: a potion, a nice cutlass, a nice cat-o'nine-tails, a light crossbow with 13 bolts, three of which have a string tied around them, an amulet carved to look like a tortoise shell, bracers, a set of shackles, a leather drinking cup, and a keyring with a handful of keys on it.

Gezza nods to Budos' suggestion. He smiles and turns around, walking to where the rest of the crew stand waiting. "Listen up you dogs!" He almost calls the crew apes, but one glance at the great ape sitting next to them means he's not likely to use that slur again. "Plugg's dead. Scourge is dead. Anyone care to join them?" He waits for a moment, listening. "I didn't think so. Well, it seems we need a Captain. And that, my dear dogs, is Captain Kaloz here! Three cheers for Captain Kaloz and gods help you if I don't hear you cheer." He leads the traditional hip-hip-huzzah three times. "Captain, if you would care to address this crew of miscreants?" Gezza smiles and moves to the side.

Hmmm...I thought it would be the ape as Captain with Nim as first mate. So close...we got our primate captain.

Cargas feels better, giving a thankful nod to Nimrod. That he's healed makes him significantly less ornery as he no longer feels like he's in danger.

Cargas doesn't cheer the new 'captain' overtly and keeps his hands on his axe in case there needs to be another change in command quickly, depending on what Budos says.

He waits and listens.

Loot:

Does anyone have detect magic? Budos could use one the bows and would take the hefty waxed coat if it went unclaimed, although that might be better for Gezza or Brood. Consider those teeth claimed before the body dumping.

On Scourge: A couple potions, leather armor, a punching dagger that seems to have a strange sheen on it, a masterwork handaxe with 8 notches in the haft, a shortbow with 12 arrows in a leather quiver with a buttoned shutter to protect them from the elements, whip, boatswain’s call, corked dark green bottle, six gold teeth worth 5 gp each if you want to pry them free, hefty waxed coat with many hidden pockets, leather snuff box with a diamond stud worth 100 gp containing a dark powder, a silver wedding ring worth 25 gp, 14 pp, 29 gp.

The crew cheers, though it remains obvious who is clearly happy and who's not. Still, at the very least, they seem cowed by your martial display and not willing to cross you.

None of them saw what happened to Sandara or Badger, but assume they were swept overboard during the storm or perhaps by the squid things you say you fought.

Brood quickly checks out the secure storage compartment, but it is in fact empty. However, he has other keys that could unlock Owlbear -- once you've made clear what's happened -- as well as the captain's storage area, where you find a chest with Plugg's share of the bounty worth 2 points of plunder plus another chest of his with 100 sp and 200 gp.

I realize you may not have found this all right now, but wanted to mention it before I forgot. Next actions are up to you.

Question@Budos & others:
I assume that Cargas knows what the Bosun is and what responsibilities he has, but I assure you that I'm mostly fuzzy about. Capt'n Budos, do you want to explain what you think his duties are?

Cargas finally stands up straight, even doing as far to return his brass knuckles to their hidden location.

Two of Scourge's potions are magical. Plugg's cutlass is too, as well as his potion bottle, three of his crossbow bolts, his amulet, his bracers and his shackles.

Brood returns from scouting the hold and shakes his head, his frown as deep as ever. "Seems like they went over after all. How long you wanting to wait before taking the cutter to the island, Bud- Captain?"

Brood'll want the cutlass, but he doesn't care enough about spoils from Plugg and Scourge to actually have a conversation about it =)

The gorilla shifts a buttock, Maheem's bindings biting into his backside. He brings his meatpaws up, and signals the half-orc.

Slaphands:

Good Sit?

Nim shakes his head, and the gorilla stands to move away. Nim unties Maheem, making sure to do it gently. Once the Rahadoumi gains his feet, the half-orc addresses him. "Second chance, mate. Don't choose your side poorly again. Scourge and Plugg don't need any more company beneath the waves."

Nim hears the call to explore, and readies himself. "Water, yeah. Not sure we'll find our friends, but, by Gozreh, there's hope."

Much more comfortable not having to sit on a large, bound Rahadoumi, the gorilla stretches his legs like he hasn't in some time. He moves first to the areas that are currently unpopulated, taking to the upper decks. He looks over the side of the ship several times, before making his way cautiously from stern to bow. He seems to study the reactions of those he approaches and passes.

When he reaches the bow, he turns his attention upwards. Making for the main mast, Magilla starts to climb, then stops. Instead, he moves back to the side of the ship, and drops over with one of the ropes, splashing briefly into the waters below. He clambers back up, then drops down, several times over, before gaining the main deck again, wet, but markedly free of fecal matter clinging to his fur.

Only then does the ape take to the riggings, climbing upwards as fast as he moves across the deck. Take 10 Climb, 25, Climb Speed 30' As he gains height, he begins to grunt, louder and louder, until he reaches the crow's nest, where he hangs for a bit, and howls.

It takes several minutes for Nim to call him down.

"Yeah...I guess we probably need to get more water and food, huh?"

Gezza was a gentleman regarding his personally gifted Amulet of Natural Armor +1, which Magilla currently wears.

Nim looks over all the items gathered about, and encourages the others to snap up what they will. He is content strengthening his band.

He gathers around the others, curious as to the dynamic on board when they leave to search for water. "If we all go, are we sure the ship will be here when we return, and everyone in good health? Should we lock someone or two up, to be sure? Should we shackle someone to keep them docile while we're away?"

The half-orc gets the boat ready, then calls down Magilla, showing him the ropes and the pulley system. When all are ready to depart, Nim will lower the boat, then descend.
