Mott, does Al have a clear line to charge? If so does she have a clear line to charge 2 with her mythic ride by?

Big Al turns to her comrades, "Though unfamiliar, I wonder if they are no more than wild animals that could just be scared off in search of easier prey? Tickdown, do you have a means to scare them off?"

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Sure, you can probably charge two, Al. They're fairly bunched up at this point.

"Welllll....lemme see here."

Tickdown unslings his pack and rummages around it for a few moments. Suddenly, an odor permeates the air of sweating feet trapped inside old boots.

"Nothin' like my mother's wonderfully nasal filling cheese. It's gone a bit funny but underneath the green crust it's still good. I reckon the smell of it could scare 'em away...or at least feed them."

Hmmm...stinky cheese could work...I knew I bought 5 for a reason.

Hehehehe. Sure, let's Give Cheese A Chance.

Big Al and Nightsong follow Tickdown's lead, with Nightsong growling toward the dimetrodons and Al waving her lance menacingly and shouting "Go away! You'll find better meals elsewhere."

At the same time she'll ready herself to charge if they start coming her way.

The cheese seems to only attract the creatures, and they begin heading toward you, jaws wide.

Big Al charges and skewers a pair of the creatures on her lance, killing them, while an arrow from Lacsar catches a third, though it just seems to grow angry at the wound.

Dorian, do you still want to cast black tentacles? It'll catch Al, and since others were talking about saving resources, I didn't want to assume. Pending that decision, they'll get their surprise round actions, then everyone will be up for Round 1.

In that case, Dorian will cast 'Slow' (via Wild Arcana, DC 20 Will) on four of the creatures. I don't mind spending a mythic point here.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

They all close with Al, but can't get in attacks due to the slow. They're too close to charge, however.

Mott, how close are they to me now?
(How many within 5'? Within 10'?)
How many would get an AoO if I were to move off now?
I'm leaning toward taking a standard action to poke one, and then a move to walk 50' further from the rest of my party, assuming that next round I'll be able to do another ride by, and (with them only moving 15'/round and me being able to charge 100'/round) should be able to charge round after round...though of course they can ready to bite at me as I run by. Without a map, I can't quite tell if that works. If you see holes in it, please let me know. Thanks,

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Two of them are in range to get AoOs if you move; otherwise it should be suitable. (Sorry for the lack of map; it's my biggest weakness as a PBP GM, since I find it a pain.) Assuming you go with that plan, I've rolled a couple AoO below. It will take them all out in short order, along with the archery. I don't think they're smart enough to go after the archers or ready a bite attack, so...

As Al charges farther away from the creatures, one of them manages to get its jaws on her, tearing painfully at her flesh. Still, despite the wound 8 hp, a few charges combine with arrows and bolts to make short order of the dinosaurs.

The rest of the day passes uneventfully and you make camp at the base of the volcano. Just as you are preparing for sleep, though, you hear a thunderous roar made by some sort of beast from what sounds like a few miles away to the northeast. Most of the sounds of the forest around you stop, though the constant swarming insects seem not at all bothered.

After several minutes, the sound isn't repeated and the normal sounds of the island resume.

He noisily starts to eat.

Big Al shudders a bit as the roar shakes the ground around them.

"Seems the neighbors may be up partying for a while. Any of you have a magical means to hide or protect us while we sleep? Either way we should have a watch. Howabout Dorian, then me, then Lacsar, then Tickdown, and then Nic?"

Dorian is referring to 'Rope Trick' and 'Keep Watch'. Unless otherwise stated, he'll be casting these spells every time the party rests.

Great, then it's settled, and Dorian, Big Al, and Lacsar can keep watch, allowing the other spellcasters a good night's rest. Not that anything would trouble us in a nice place like this...

Despite -- or perhaps because of -- your preparations, the night passes uneventfully. You emerge from Dorian's spell to the waking jungle, the sound of birds and other jungle life ringing through the trees around you.

Continuing to the northwest, most of the day passes without incident, though frustratingly slowly as the undergrowth hampers your movements.

Toward mid-afternoon, though, you discover the game path you're following blocked by two 30-foot-long dinosaurs, three sharp horns decorating its armored head and a large round crest angling back over its neck from its skull.

Knowledge (nature) DC 18:

They're triceratops.

They're perched above the mostly eaten, but still fresh remains, of a smaller, similar dinosaur. Seeing you, they paw the ground nervously, their horns pointing in your direction.

Before anyone can react, Nic darts forward, sliding to a stop right at 30 feet from the little one that looks dead…. yelling a word in Celestial as he shoves a fist at the little body.

Celestial:
"BREATHE!"

Move to within 30ft, then use Faith's Reach to cast Cure Moderate Wounds on what i'm hoping is a barely-alive baby dinosaur.
If it requires burning a mythic point to use Amazing Initiative for an extra move action to get into range, Nic will do so. If he doesn't have to do that, and the spell goes off, he'll instead use a Swift action to activate Wings of Darkness, then use Amazing Initiative for another move action to fly back above the party's head about 10 feet.

Cool.

Nic hesitates for a moment as visions of saving the half-eaten baby dinosaur flash through his mind. Shaking it off, he looks over at Dorian.

Abyssal:
"Can you get us out of this? Blind'em? If not, I can sleet storm them or put a mist around us."

Ready an action to cast a spell based on Dorian's response.

Dorian answered the look with an exasperated glance of his own. After spending so long trudging through the jungle, his acerbic attitude was starting to reassert itself.

Abyssal:
"Have you learnt nothing from our first encounter? Please refrain from blanketing the battlefield with mist, fog, sleet, or any variation thereof. If you have some method of disabling these enemies without also disabling us, then by all means use it. Otherwise, just stand back and let us handle this."

Big Al gulps a bit -- these beasts are big, and pointy -- but she pats Nightsong on the flank, calls out "You will not threaten my friends. I challenge thee!" and charges ahead, skewering the beast and then riding past it while Nightsong takes a bite at it as well.

Nic shoots a dark look at the mage, but takes no further action.

Nic will continue readying his spell… can the trigger now be someone getting injured? Or have I lost my readied action? (since the trigger was technically "Dorian responding", and his response really wasn't something Nic will be acting on)

I think for a true readied action you'd have to say more than "to cast a spell"; I think you'd need to have specified it a bit more like "Cast Scorching Ray on the foe Dorian points to" or "Cast Obscuring Mist when Dorian says 'go'" or somesuch. I think in game terms you just had a free action of talking briefly to someone who (essentially, in our PbP rules) shares an Init with you, so you haven't lost an action and can do whatever you want.

Lacsar's action (as he's currently out of town)
and I'm assuming Lacsar is over 30 feet away from his target. If tha's not the case, add +1 to attack and damage rolls

Lacsar unleashes archery hell… starting with the dinosaur Big Al attacked, then moving to the other one should the first fall.

Swift to ki for extra flurry attack. Then flurry with Deadly Aim.

BOOM (as he would say):

Sorry, guys. Just little crazy now; and combat's a touch more time consuming. Really appreciate Nic doing Lacsar's actions for me, though. Probably not going to get to it until Sunday, honestly. That said, they are normal dinos, so you can probably figure it out if you want. Just a normal combat here, nothing hinky.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

OK, let's see if we can get back to normal posting rates. Sorry about the delays.

Round 1:

Nic: 30
Tickdown: 20
Dorian: 15
Alemarra: 13
Lacsar: 11
Antagonist: 2

As the triceratops get ready to attack, Alemarra and Lacsar spring into action.

The halfling knight and her wolf mount charge forward, both lance and teeth -- thanks to Tickdown's spell -- tearing into one of the creatures as she finishes 40 yards behind them. The beast bellows in pain at the wounds, but remains standing. Seconds later, though, three arrows slam into it, springing off Lacsar's bow, and the beast falls, with a final roar.

That leaves one dino standing; 40 feet from Al, 30 feet from everyone else. Tickdown and Dorian and Nic have still not acted.

Just Dorian and Nic you mean, Tickdown cast a spell. These guys seem like not much of a threat, probably not worth a spell (or at least more than a low level one). I suspect we'll deal with the second one in 1-rounds as well.

For the first time in a while, Dorian cast an offensive spell that wasn't imbued with mythic power. Now that the initial rush had worn off, he was reverting to his old conservative ways. And though he hadn't even come close to running out of this strange new energy yet, he acknowledged that such an event was possible. Reluctantly, he decided to hold back a bit from now on.

Dorian casts 'Glitterdust' {DC 20 Will} on the dinosaur.
