Alright, if everyone's ready, we can skip forward to the next day.

If so, go ahead and post your just-prior-to-battle preparations. Feel free to roleplay your preparations as well. Due to the nature of the fight, we may not be able to have a battle map for the entire area, so please do your best to describe your placement relative to the goblins' camp.

Talia spent most of the night breathing in the incense she had recently purchased. She had heard about its effects on divine spellcasters but never actually experienced it before - all she knew was that it needed time to work.

Talia fingers her ring for a moment, thankful that at least she didn't have to spend so much time sleeping. She missed the eight hour rests she had previously like everyone else but here on the island, and an active Red Mantis target, it didn't make much sense to keep her eyes closed for that long even with Midnight keeping a look out.

Talia watches the sun rise and then prepares her spells for the day as normal. Immediately though, she feels different. Her heavenly spirit had always given her strength but not like this. This felt...intoxicating. Talia had always wanted to shatter the Red Mantis but this was very different. With the energy coursing through her, she felt like she wanted to tear something apart with her own hands. To break something. This felt primal. Talia fidgeted, itching to be off.

All spells prepared are Maximized (if applicable). I'm ready. I could rp my first two combat actions but I'll hold off for now since a lot can happen between now and then.

Sidenote: I'm hinting that the incense is a bad influence on Talia. As written, its just your average consumable, but I'm taking some liberties and deciding that praying and meditating to a CN Goddess of Revenge, then having that dialing up your magic to 11 is having significant influence on her mental state. So she's a little more destructive now (reflected in a more aggressive spell list).

[opc]I wrote it this way because I don't want to use this consumable often (its pretty OP) - if its an an unhealthy influence I can justify IC of Talia making rare us of it - mostly during pitched battles where we really need all the firepower. If it end sup rubbing people the wrong way, let me know and I'll just flavor it as a normal consumable with no effects.[/ooc]

At a flight time of around nine minutes, Talivar's spells had a much shorter duration than Talia's. This meant their plan was going to be incredibly taxing for him. He had to make three people fly and to get into position unnoticed he'd also need to make those three people invisible.

They approached the spot Talia had described on foot. Once he judged they were about fifteen minutes away on foot, Talivar started whispering strange words and then Urulleth vanished. Next was Kilarra and then finally himself using the runestone they'd found recently as a focus. They walked for a few more minutes until he judged they were about five minutes away by air. Then he softly asked them to gather round where he could reach out and touch. He cast another series of spells and the trio soared towards the Longlung's base. Their invisibility would run out soon, but no matter combat would be joined soon. Along with the flying spells, Talivar had cast another which surrounded him with illusory doubles. There would be archers for sure and this would grant him a few seconds grace.

Mirror Images: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

He waited for the right moment to cast a battle magic which would make Kilarra and Urelleth move with incredible speed, all the better to cut some monkey goblins to ribbons.

He's preparing to cast haste as his first action.

Spells cast: 1. Mage Armour, Heightened Awareness.
2. Invisibility x3, Mirror Images. (Runestone of power used to power one of the spells)
3. Fly x3

I'll assume Uruelleth is somewhere close to Kilarra and/or Talivar.

For the purposes of combat, and since Talia mentioned possibly wanting to send a bunch of fireballs, I'm going to assume you start the fight 60 ft away from the camp. As such, you'll all be starting off of the actual combat map, so please do your best to approximate where you would be when the fight starts.

Map added to the maps slides. A few things to note. The trees are all considered to be 50 ft high. Red, green, and dark blue goblins are at the top of their respective trees. The other goblins are currently on the ground. The ground is considered flat and not difficult terrain. From what Talia observed before, she suspects that at least a couple of the tribe's goblins are away scouting or foraging.

Initiative:

Initiative (Kilarra): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Initiative (Talia): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Initiative (Talivar): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Initiative (Uruelleth): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Initiative (Goblins): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Everyone can act for a surprise round and Talia and Talivar can also act for round 1.

Determined to rip it all apart, she then closes her eyes for a fraction, before twisting her hands, in one smooth motion, creating a huge windstorm in the area, whipping loose debris up in the air.

Casting Control Winds.

I forgot before they approached Talivar would have cast see invisible too.

The moment gravity among the trees went nuts Talivar whispered a spell, and suddenly the world seemed to slow down like everything was in molasses! Casting Haste on Uruelleth, Kilarra and himself. @Kilarra you probably get another attack and +1 on your hits.

Talivar wasn't entirely sure how many goblins there where among the trees but he did know the ones in side Talia's trap where about to have a bad day. Still working on getting back to 100%, so hopefully this post won’t be riddled with too many errors.

Your interpretation of the incense sounds good to me, btw, Talia. Seems reasonable to only use it on rare occasions.

With studying your target being your surprise round action, Kilarra, your other actions won’t take place until the next set of actions. You can, of course, use the same rolls still.

Surprise Round

Talia hovers before swooping out of the sunlight, feeling her power flood her veins. She thrusts her hand towards the camp, trying to feel the space where everything connected, and then with a scream yanked sharply upwards, pulling the gravity away from the area. The goblins suddenly rise from the ground and begin to float.

Talivar, the moment gravity among the trees went nuts, whispered a spell, and suddenly the world seemed to slow down like everything was in molasses!

Kilarra studies the two goblins closest to her.

Uruelleth, when the signal is given, strikes at the closest goblin while drawing upon his rage. He lands a mighty blow, injuring the goblin.

Round 1

Talia, determined to rip it all apart, closes her eyes for a fraction, before twisting her hands, in one smooth motion, creating a huge windstorm in the area, whipping loose debris up in the air. The goblins begins shaking violently from the wind.

Talivar wasn't entirely sure how many goblins there where among the trees but he did know the ones in side Talia's trap where about to have a bad day. 'Better make this one count' he thought as he started drawing in power. Too boost it he upended one of his dwindling supply of urea vials into his hand where it immediately flashed to steam. Hoar frost formed on the leaves of the tree he was flying next to as the temperature plummeted and a weird blue white light formed between his hands as he mimed crushing something. The cloud of vapor from the vial compressed itself down to the size of a pea and with a casual flick of his wrist, Talivar sent it into the middle of the hell that Talia had conjured. With a flash of cold blue light the ball of ice detonated with a dull thud and suddenly the world was full of shards of jagged ice and snow! The goblins all take some damage from the blast, some fare better than others.

Goblin Reflex Saves:

Red: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Purple: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Yellow: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Grey: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Light Blue: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Green: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Dark Blue: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

Red Goblin concentrates, trying to cast a spell. She succeeds and casts a spell on herself, then tries to fly away from Uruelleth and out of the gravity sphere. She manages to do so, but gives Uruelleth a chance to attack in the process. Cast Defensively: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (20) + 18 = 38 Fly Check: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30 You can take an AoO against red, Uruelleth.

Purple Goblin casts a spell on himself and also tries to fly out. He also manages to do so. Fly Check: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32

Yellow Goblin follows red and purple’s example, casting a spell on herself and trying to fly out. She fails and is forced to twirl in place. Fly Check: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19

Grey Goblin spins in place.

Light Blue Goblin channels some type of energy and some of yellow’s, grey’s, green’s, dark blue’s, and her own wounds close. Channel: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 1, 6, 1) = 16

Green Goblin flaps her arms helplessly.

Dark Blue Goblin casts a spell on herself and tries to fly out of the windstorm. She succeeds. Fly Check: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29

Everything looks fine GM. I'm assuming that they are Medium size as if they are smaller they will need to make a Fly check to not be blown away. They also take -8 penalty on their Fly check but I think they all rolled high enough to beat the check (DC 20 if Medium, DC 25 if Small) anyway. I'll see who everyone else targets / results from attacks before selecting who I'll try and eliminate next

With a trio of spell casters having flown out of the Killzone, Talivar didn't want to hang around. Going to give Talia another day or so to post (only seems fair since I've been absent myself).

As for the size of the goblins, I realize this complicates things further, but I do try to be consistent. They are, in fact, small-sized, as per usual goblins (and monkey goblins). However, I was basically assuming that the gravity sphere would have held them in place. The wind would destroy small trees and many of the branches of the larger trees, but I suppose my interpretation of the interaction between the two spells meant the monkey goblins themselves would stay put, barring some ability to fly or another form of magical movement. Happy to discuss further, but that's my current thoughts on the matter.

Female Aasimar Shaman 10 | HP 80/80| AC15 T11 FF14 | CMD 16 | F+7 R+6 W+14 | Init +5 | Perc +22 | Sense Motive +27

Thanks GM - was at a U2 Concert so didn’t have availability.
Ideally, the wind is blowing towards the centre from all directions as per Control Winds. Basically they are trapped in a low gravity zone surrounded by powerful winds keeping them central. Remember that the flying goblins still need to make DC 25 Fly checks or they are blown backwards towards the centre of the circle. Fly checks
are made at a -8 penalty which I don’t know if they took into account on earlier roll.

Talia swoops in the the air and targeta the nearest spellcaster that has escaped from the wind trap, furtherest from her allies but close to Talia. Her hand glows with dark energy and she blasts it at the spellcaster screaming ”ENERVATE”

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Spellcaster takes 4 negative levels with no save.

Maps | Info | Loot | Talia's Journal

My apologies again for the delay. That’s on me.

Some checks I missed from last round that I learned courtesy of Talia:

Goblin Fort Saves:

Red Goblin Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Purple Goblin Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Yellow Goblin Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Grey Goblin Fort Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Light Blue Goblin Fort Save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Green Goblin Fort Save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Dark Blue Goblin Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

So Purple, Light Blue, Green, and Dark Blue goblins resisted the control winds spell. Since Light Blue made her save, I’ll have her climb out of the area last round (since she was suspended in the air by gravity sphere, I’m assuming she would still be close enough to a tree.) Same for green, but she won’t have a chance to attack last round.

Here are the relevant additional Fly checks I missed:

Red Fly Check: 1d20 + 13 - 8 ⇒ (12) + 13 - 8 = 17
Yellow Fly Check: 1d20 + 13 - 8 ⇒ (4) + 13 - 8 = 9

So Red and Yellow were blown away as per the details of control winds. I don’t remember exactly where Red was originally, but I placed her back inside the circumference of the control winds/gravity sphere. Grey is also blown away since she can’t fly in the first place. I’ll place red close enough to Uruelleth that he can still attack her, though his AoO won’t apply since she didn’t actually get to move. To be fair, though, I’ll use that attack roll and his other damage roll.

Damage rolls for being blown away:
Red Non-lethal Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
Yellow Non-lethal Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5
Grey Non-lethal Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7

-----

Now, then. Red, Yellow, and Grey also need to make Fort Saves for the second round, so I’ll roll for them on their appropriate initiative as needed.

Alright, getting back to current round:

Kilarra takes a quick step forward and fires her bow at the purple goblin. All three arrows strike true and the goblin falls to the ground dead. Fwiw, sneak attack damage didn’t apply, but you still had enough damage to kill her.

Uruelleth lands a devastating blow on the red goblin, finishing her off.

Talia swoops in the the air and targeta the nearest spellcaster that has escaped from the wind trap, furtherest from her allies but close to Talia. Her hand glows with dark energy and she blasts it at the spellcaster screaming “ENERVATE”

The dark energy connects with the dark blue goblin and she looks severely weakened, though not quite dead.

Talivar, with a trio of spell casters having flown out of the Killzone, didn't want to hang around. He felt for the arctic power thrumming through his blood and quickly pulled in a smaller cloud of super cold air and water. With a gesture this quickly condensed down to the size of a pea which he flicked into the maelstrom. As before it detonated with a dull thud sending deadly shards of ice and cold through the air. They both avoid the worst of it and manage to survive.

Yellow Goblin Reflex Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Grey Goblin Reflex Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Red Goblin is dead.

Purple Goblin is dead.

Yellow Goblin still can’t escape the vortex and is buffeted once again. She manages to stay conscious. Yellow Goblin Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Yellow Non-lethal Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6

Grey Goblin can’t escape either and continues to spin in place and is bruised once again.
Grey Goblin Fort Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Grey Non-lethal Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7

Light Blue Goblin makes her way around the vortex to get into a better position to strike.

Green Goblin does likewise.

Dark Blue Goblin drinks a potion and some of her wounds close. 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (8, 8, 6) + 5 = 27

Talia debates Hexing the remaining goblins in the whirlwind but decides against it. As long as they were struggling in the wind, then they wouldn't be hurting her friends. Instead, she turns her attention to the group of goblins in front of her. She didn't hold out much hope for elemental attacks but damage was damage after all. She concentrates, before launching a blast of fire by way of a Fireblal spell.

Maximised Fireball = 54 damage with a save for half. I'm trying to get Grey / Blue / Blue but if I cannot get grey I'll settle for the two goblins that are close together.

Talia's spells had scattered the monkey goblins about like leaves in the storm, so it felt like battle was entering a mop up phase. Still there was no time for complacency, a pair of spellcasters where on the loose near Talia. Reaching deep, Talivar pulled yet more artic cold into this realm. As before he clenched his fist, compressing the cloud of freezing fog down to the size of a pea. No worries, Kilarra. Not like I can complain anyway. Hope your kids feel better soon.

Kilarra continues firing her bow at the goblins floating in the air, starting with the dark blue goblin. Grey is still inside the windstorm Talia created, so your arrows wouldn’t be able to get through. I moved you down one so you could target dark blue instead.

All three of Kilarra’s arrows find their mark, injuring the dark blue goblin further, but not quite killing her.

Uruelleth moves to the green one and attacks. He deals a nasty blow to the goblin, but it doesn’t fall.

She concentrates, before launching a blast of fire by way of a Fireball spell. Her blazing spell manages to strike three of the goblins. Still, they all see her spell in time to avoid the worst of the damage. Even with only some of the damage, the spell proves fatal for the dark blue goblin who falls to the ground and doesn’t move. Grey and light blue are injured further but still alive.

Reflex Saves:

Grey: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Dark Blue: 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 9 - 4 = 18
Light Blue: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Talivar saw Talia's spells had scattered the monkey goblins about like leaves in the storm, so it felt like battle was entering a mop up phase. Still there was no time for complacency, a pair of spellcasters where on the loose near Talia. Reaching deep, Talivar pulled yet more arctic cold into this realm. As before he clenched his fist, compressing the cloud of freezing fog down to the size of a pea. With a flick of his wrist he sent it towards the edge of the gravity sphere where it detonated in a maelstrom of frigid air and dagger like ice. Everything touched immediately flashed over with a thick coating of frost. The grey goblin falls, but the light blue goblin is still alive, if only just barely.

Reflex Saves:

Grey: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Light Blue: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Yellow Goblin finally manages to resist Talia’s winds. She casts a spell on herself and flies out of the gale. Yellow Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Grey Goblin is dead.

Light Blue Goblin screams at Talia before targeting her for retribution. A pillar of flame descends from above Talia before engulfing her in fire. Damage: 10d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 4, 1, 6, 4, 4, 4, 5) = 35 DC 20 Reflex Save for half.

Green Goblin tries to climb back a step and is shocked as Uruelleth advances on it. Dropping her bow, the goblin draws a short sword and slashes at the bloodrager. She lands a light gash on Ruel’s left arm. Green Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29 Damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

In the distance, two more goblins emerge from the trees. It seems the two scouts have returned. One looks particularly furious.

I'm a bit confused about the goblin's movement last round. I'm enlarged, so I have 10' reach, and was 10 feet away when I attacked. If he tried to move away with a 5' step and I used Step Up, then he shouldn't be able to close with me to attack, right? So his choices should be to either attack with the bow (provoking), or draw his sword and wait for next round. But I'll go with whatever you rule.

Uruelleth takes another swing at the goblin. If the goblin doesn't fall, he swings again, but if his first strike kills him he moves up to menace Yellow.

Technically I should be 30 feet back after launching fireball, which takes me off the map and probably beyond Longbow range. Its unlikely to matter much though so I'll take it as is. GM - can we get insight into what spell was cast since Talia can probably auto make the Spellcraft check. I know (ooc) that its Confusion) but its also information Talia should know IC as well.

Also I'd actually be dead rather than unconscious if I didn't have DR/10 Magic against ranged attacks. Fortunately though, I still have my reserve spell that I was holding onto for this particular round. I'm basically out of combat though (but pretty much fully protected which means its up to Uruelleth and Talivar to clean up from here as long as Kilarra is boned by Confusion. I recommend someone disrupts any spellcasting Purple Goblin does (or kills her) while someone else focuses on killing Orange

I'll probably cast Cure Light Wounds via wand on myself to heal myself back up (as I'm on 1 hp) but alternatively, if Uruelleth needs me to dismiss Control Winds to bypass its effects (if he feels the DC 20 Save is too high) I can. His call but distance might be too far for him to close anyway.

The arrows swarm before Talia before the stop suddenly in mid air, shattering against an unseen force. Talia shoots the Orange Goblin her trademark irritating smirk.

His attack is foiled by Emergency Force Sphere. Its also going to hold strong against Kilarra's ranged full attack next round, which is really lucky.

Talivar blew out a long breath, "Phew! Well that was unpleasant, that spell tastes disgusting! The battle was a bit intense too although Talia's opener really did a number on them..."

He glanced at the wreckage before sighing, "Let's see what we can salvage."

He'll cast detect magic on each corpse.

Kilarra doesn’t spot any movement among the goblins. They all seem to be truly dead. Based on their numbers and Talia’s earlier scouting, it seems the Longlung tribe has been completed destroyed.

While Talivar’s concentration is still a bit off from the bad taste in his mouth, he’s able to round up all the items on the goblins.

Loot:

Chain Shirts x8

Cloak of resistance +1 x8

What’s the plan? Just heading back to the Warrens?

Uruelleth takes a few moments to catch his breath after his battle fury subsides. He looks around at the battlefield, satisfied at the carnage they wrought.

"Shall we continue fighting? We've taken out a few spellcasters, but they have to have some warriors, right?"

"They were a spellcaster tribe Uruelleth, they dont appear to have any more warriors. Besides, I don't have the ability to fight further - apart from my wounds I exhausted most of my magic spells in evening the odds as best as I could" Talia responds.

Talivar studied Talia for a moment, 'Interesting, seems I have more endurance. Mmm I'd best keep that to myself.' He glanced at Urelleth as he spoke, "I get the impression this was it too, the cream of the Longlung tribe died here. Perhaps we should arm the Kobold's with the gear we found here? Assuming we don't claim any of it... Pretty sure there's going to be a pitched battle at some stage and frankly they could use all they can get."

Uruelleth grumbles a bit, shrugging. "Sure. Let them have it. This stuff's too small anyway," he says, though his eyes linger on the headband.

As a Cha-based caster, I could use it, but I don't think it'll give me any bonuses right away. I only use buff spells, nothing that attacks saves, generally. Edit: I take that back. Next level I'll get 3rd level spells, so that'll give me a bonus spell slot. I think I'd like to claim that.

Feel free, Ruel, if no one else wants it. Just note it as needed and remember that it does count towards your WBL total when you next you level up.

Back to the Warrens, then?
