Well in fantasy games lightning bolts can come from may other causes than purely natural ones! I initially thought when you described it that it was an attack from some sort of elemental (obviously the ones we fought do not have that ability).
Anyway I've been rather distracted of late, work and real life have been piling up. I'm going on holiday from tomorrow for a week. Posting will be slower than usual.
Due to an incredibly busy weekend filled with a Christmas celebration, two birthday parties, and many hospital visits, I will be unable to post from December the 16th through till December the 18th. My posting should resume as normal on Tuesday the 19th. Apologies if this slows down the game. Feel free to bot me as needed. (I think I've shared most of her intentions for the next while in the gameplay thread, so it should be fine.)
I'll try to sneak a post in on Sunday if I can, since this is one of my very favourite campaigns, but I can't promise anything.
Thanks for understanding, and have a great weekend, guys.
No worries, folks. Thank you for letting us know.
Talivar, you are correct. Perhaps there's more going on than meets the eye. (Or is there?) Have a good holiday!
Kilarra, sounds like a busy schedule! Hope all goes well. Glad you like the campaign. : )
For everyone, I may slow down my updating rate for the next week or two depending on how much y'all are able to post. I think this is probably the only time of year we'll need to do this, but I don't want to leave people behind. Besides, I'm fairly certain there will be a few days around Christmas that I won't be able to post either.
Still here! I haven't posted since I was pretty sure that I'm sleeping right now.
Sorry, I had a surprise family visit (holidays, yay!).
Where should I pop in?
Definitely what the GM said! (Obviously, lol).
You may also want to read the summary I posted for you, if you haven't yet. lol I'd like to highlight the whole 'don't let Kilarra get shanked in her sleep' part of that post...
Hey, guys! Happy to be back!
Also, advanced warning:
I'll be unavailable to post from December 22nd through to December 26th due to the holidays. I might be able to fit in a post here or there during that time, but I'm not sure. Holidays are busy around here. Posting should resume as normal by the 27th (or the 28th at the latest).
If it gets too crazy around here to mention it later this week, Happy Holidays to those of you who celebrate something! And have a great few days to those of you who don't!
No worries, Kilarra. As it turns out, I'll have family in town during that same time window. As such, it may just be best for us to 'pause' the game from the 22nd to 26th. Like Kilarra said, if we get a couple posts in, that's great, but don't feel obligated to do so.
I'm going to go ahead and make it official: we'll be pausing the game from the 22nd to the 26th. If we take a couple extra days to get going again (not to mention New Year's as well), I'm not too concerned about it.
Anyway, like I think I said before, this is really the only time when more than one or two of us will be unable to post. (I'm guessing, at least.) And, not to belabor the point (too late), but I do want us to get back into the groove of things as quick as possible as I think that's in the best interest of the game's health.
In the meantime, we'll keep chugging along through the 21st.
And here I picked that for entirely flavor reasons, thinking it'd never come up!
In regards to your mention of large loot being lost, I had a handy haversack which I was storing everything in. So, I haven't lost anything. But what I did notice: I never bought a tent in the beginning! I bought a bedroll and a folding chair, but no tent. I'm going to be the most absurd camper. Sitting in the jungle, sleeping in my folding chair, wrapped up in my bedroll to avoid the bugs. Oh, yeah!
*head shake, Kilarra*
In her defence, she's never been camping.
Haha, there's a first time for everything, Kilarra.
Also, this conversation is getting juicy. I'll have the monkey goblins come back over to you at some point, but I want to give y'all more time to hash things out so I know whether or not you plan to massacre a village.
Yeah, how am I the only one who DOESN'T want to do that?
I suspect Talivar lost his three masterwork books for Arcana, Geography & Planes :(
Hope everyone had a good 2017 and that you have a good New Year's. I'm going to hold off on updating us till tomorrow night, since you're all doing some excellent role-playing as you try to decide what to do. Some of it will play out once you get to the village, of course, but I want to make sure you're at least all on the same page.
Happy New Year everyone! I recently realized that most people are probably still off work for New Year's day and/or not back to their normal schedules yet, so I'm going to hold off updating us till tomorrow to give you a bit more time to work on your plan, if you want to. I'm currently assuming you're planning to keep up your charade with the monkey goblins at least until you get to the village.
Hey everyone, it’s been close to three months since we started this adventure together (longer, if you count the recruitment period). I still consider myself fairly new to PbP GM'ing (and PbP in general). I want to ask all of you for your feedback on my GM'ing... the good (hopefully), the bad (inevitably), and the ugly (if necessary).
What have you liked? What have you disliked? What do you think I’m doing well (or okay, at least)? What am I not doing well (be as brutal as necessary)?
I want to keep improving and I know there's definitely room for growth as I'm far from perfect. Any and all feedback is appreciated!
As a far more often GM then player, I will say getting good player feedback is really, really hard.
Liked- You keep things moving at a good pace, which is hard in a big group. You know when to cut a combat short or when to let it play out. I liked the explosion, which was a nice touch.
Disliked- Hmm, not much yet. It was a little boring watching Uruelleth talk goblin for a few Real Life days, I suppose.
Well- Your description is fine and writing is good. Like that bit with the sawtooth blades in the latest post. Good, solid writing with a hint of danger.
Not Doing well- Don't really have any real complaints yet. I'll think on it.
Hope that helps.
Well, to prove Vorya totally right, I'm not very good at giving helpful feedback. Haha.
Honestly, I'm in a LOT of play by posts, and this is one of my very favourites. Top two, for sure.
I like the pace, I like the plot, I like the twists you've given us so far. This campaign always feels like it's got something going on. I like the characters you chose to put together (which is really a compliment for the other players, haha). I like how you've been formatting everything so far, including your posts, and how everything is organized. It makes sense.
I like that you seem to be responsive to our choices. I find that in some pbps when I give a skill check that might not be needed (or isn't what the GM was hoping for) it gets ignored, and I haven't noticed you doing that. That matters to me a lot.
I don't have any complaints to offer you. I didn't mind Ruel's goblin conversation, and won't mind the next time something similar happens either.
Thank you for the feedback, folks!
Vorya, from my little experience, I must say that I agree it's hard to get. Haha.
Kilarra, I definitely want to be responsive. You're not always going to do what I expect you to, but that's a good thing (like with Uruelleth's bluff on the beach). Please let me know if it seems like I've stopped being responsive so I can try to remedy it asap.
If any of you think of anything else, please let me know. For any feedback you're uncomfortable sharing here, feel free to PM me. My inbox is always open. : )
Regarding feedback, I have to say it's been fun so far and I like the pace that's been set. Sorry/not sorry about taking center stage with the goblin bluff, but I saw an opportunity and took it. It was a little slow for me during the investigation of the crew back on the boat, so hopefully it all balances out.
Glad you're back, Talia. The others need someone to keep them in line. ; )
Uruelleth, I'll leave that to y'all to decide. The most obvious options would be toward Ilizmagorti or toward Ganda-Uj.
Going to update us here in a few minutes, but you still have time to decide even if you just want to get into the jungle first.
I was quoting the film version of the Fellowship of the Ring along with Vorya.
By the way, how much gold and other valuables did the goblins scavenge off the dead sailors? I would have retrieved that.
I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan (books and movies), so it makes me sad that I failed to get that reference. At least you and Vorya got to have a bit of an inside joke. : )
Also, Kilarra didn't discover any coins or other valuables on the goblins during her search besides what I mentioned, so it's likely the ones who actually looted the sailors have already left the village and are currently with the captured sailors and villagers.

Some of the below is likely review for everyone and/or something you're used to, but I figured I would outline everything so we're all on the same page.
For leveling up, add half+1(of your hit die) to your health (plus all your other modifiers). Please post in this discussion thread your new skill points, your new class features, etc.
If you’re going into a new class, be sure to include any relevant archetypes and a listing of your class features.
Of course, all of your changes should be reflected on your profile page. I frequently reference them to see what skill checks are relevant, to double-check attack modifiers, etc. Be sure to update your quick stats line as well.
Here are a couple examples of level up posts:
My thanks must once again go to Painlord for those examples. Almost everything I know about GM'ing play-by-posts comes from him.
(By the way, I was asking about the goblins that we fought on the beach that I had bluffed into gathering the bodies before we killed them. I told them to search for "shinies" on the bodies. I know it's rather mercenary, looting the looters, but Uruelleth comes from a very skewed perspective.)
