Just taking this over to discussion.

Kilarra, I'd prefer you didn't stab her now. I'm like, 200% sure she is Red Mantis herself and that our crew are either dead or enslaved at this point (due to her not wanting to show them to us). Her lies are utter garbage (seriously, she hasn't even addressed the issue that we know everything about the poison and therefore shes lying through her teeth) and she doesn't seem particularly worried.

Like, I wanna kill this b*ch and make her suffer, like drop her into negatives, heal her, then start all over again kinda suffering, buuut I see two problems.

Firstly, I have about 3 offensive spells in total that I can use if a fight breaks out. It puts me severely unprepared for an aggressive attack.

Secondly (and more importantly) if we make a stand right here and now, the watch gets called, and they probably start kicking down doors to find us before nightfall. I'd prefer a couple more days under the radar to get all the items and information we can, before burning every bridge imaginable.

Besides, with the bag of holding we can also hunt her down and kill her later which doesn't lead to the watch getting called.

By all means, bluff being Red Mantis, but I would prefer to avoid forcing our hand here and now when a) we are unprepared for a full combat, and b) there is so much more to gain by forcing this on our terms.

If you need me to say something IC Kilarra, I can do so.

Oh, I would have just stabbed her in the first place, but it seemed like you were aiming for diplomacy/intimidate, Which clearly isn't working.

I like Ruel's plan of causing a scene, btw, but if this goes south, or still doesn't work, it sounds liked you just want to leave? Is that the case?

I gave warning that Kilarra wants to stab her because it sounded like most of us didn't want it to come down to a fight. I'm willing to go along with whatever the group wants. That being said, Kilarras way nicer than she seems. She's not okay with leaving our sailors here. If bluffing doesn't work, what are you suggesting?

We could come back after close, but you won't have spells then either. I doubt there will be sailors left to rescue if we take longer than that.

I'd prefer to leave, come back at a quieter time with a full combat spell list and then kill her ideally.

I don't think we win a fight against one or two healers, a (probable) Red Mantis agent, and probably at least 4 members of the guard, arriving shortly after we make a scene. Even if we succeed, you then have the entire guard out looking for us and some of us (me) are very distinctive looking, I just expect them to go door to door afterwards. I just don't see any advantage killing this person this second, compared with plenty of advantages later.

Metagame-wise, this lets us divest ourselves of the remaining npc crew that were burdensome allies at best and additional Mantis moles at worst. If we get them back, Uruelleth still won't trust them. If they're dead, he'll figure that they weren't Mantis agents. If they go missing, that means they're either Mantis or being sweated for information about them.

This also speaks to the extensive reach that the Red Mantis have on this island -- to the point that it will be far wiser to leave, kick around the Shackles for a while to level up and maybe build a base of operations somewhere else, before we even think about returning.

To some extent, I agree with Uruelleth. I think that the Red Mantis do t take us seriously though, so we can get away with subtle missions / activities wheras obvious actions that indirectly 'challenge them' might result in harsher follow up.

Like I guess if we want to attack her - fine. I just think the crew are either captured, enslaved, dead etc. If not, definitely a ball and chain though at a minimum. In all cases, this means that there is no time limit on confronting this women. Since I think she is Red Mantis, I fully endorse killing her, just in a more isolated / quieter location.

I agree they are a liability but that's half the challenge. She may be in league with the Mantis but IMO the evidence is non existent (happy to try and prove it. We should ask around and see if we can find any former patients). I hope we can avoid bloodshed in here, it will hardly go unnoticed.

Yeah after that post I would like for us to back off. We know the persons name (so I can info stalk them), visualised the building (so I can view it with divination spells), and we can hunt down and kill her for Red Mantis information all while avoiding a massive fight that draws the guards (and probably the rest of the Mantis) down on us.

Reminder: Divination spells don't work on Mediogalti Island. You're not sure why, but the monarchs were the ones who told you this.

Edit: Specifically on Mediogalti Island. A spell like Akashic Communion is a bit of an exception since you're not actually casting it on the island, but on the archive about the island. Traditional divination spells like scrying wouldn't work.

Second Edit: I realize I haven't been strictly enforcing that with stuff like ears of the city, but that really shouldn't have worked either. It was mentioned before and I'll try to be more consistent with it.

General reminder though that if enemy is tougher than it looks I'm ill equipped to handle it than I would be if we waited till (say) early morning to attack once my spells are refreshed.

Oh, man! I have such fond memories of knivesies. Back when Curse of the Crimson Throne was new, the players I was GMing it for loved that game so much they kept slinking back to Eel's End to play. It was by far the most successful 'mini game' I have ever run or seen run in a campaign to date.

Haha, that’s good to hear! I don’t see myself running Curse of the Crimson Throne anytime soon, so I figured I’d try it out here. I thought about trying to come up with a game myself, but decided it might not hurt to go with something already established. Though I haven’t played it, I think Knivesies is probably second only to Blood Pig, in my opinion. We just have to see if Ruel agrees to play.

The way I see it, we simply cannot share our reason for being in Ilizmagorti. So we're going to have to find a place that will either believe our bluff or won't demand our life's story to stay there.

Edit: hear me out. I blew my bluff check. I admit that. But everyone in this particular establishment has been asking our business in Ilizmagorti. Therefore, I suggest we cross this place off our list and look for another that's more willing to just take our gold and not care about our business.

I have no objections to exploring some of the job postings, since that might be a better direction for the game than going from bar to bar.
