"Where are they getting all these goons from?" Fírinne wonders aloud, before infusing her rapier with more magical energy and charging into the center of the enemy formation.

Emi hasn't really practiced the art of banter and the room is very full, she stays silent, doing little more than sparing Rolth a nasty glance as she moves into the room. She is more cautious than Firinne, having learned that in gangs these minions can do some real harm.

She stops upon reaching the first of the cultists, cutting at him with new new dose of inhuman speed.

HOSPICE OF THE BLESSED MAIDEN (Midland--West Dock; 12 Desnus)

Andrezi casts a haste spell, putting a little pep in his comrades' step. Firinne takes the fight to a cultist in the middle of the room, badly wounding him, while Emi's attack on a second Urgathoan misses. The scythe-wielding cultists swarm in return; while one moves to try to engage Nebbin at the double doors, the rest concentrate their attacks on Firinne and Emi. Emi walks right into a savage slash from her first opponent (confirmed crit; 28 damage) but dodges another cultist's scythe. Firinne comes under attack by three of the deadly opponents, but she's prepared. In an amazing display of swordplay, the tiefling parries all three attacks against her before running through her already-wounded foe.

@FIRINEE: 3 points of panache spent. If I'm reading the rule correctly, I believe you still get 2 ripostes against the other cultists you successfully parried.

Up on the catwalk, Rolth casts a spell, conjuring a glowing incorporeal hand that hovers near his shoulder.

Spellcraft DC 17 (To ID Rolth's Spell):

Rolth just conjured up a spectral hand.

@EMILEVA: You only get the bonus haste attack when you use the full attack action (which, I'm guessing, you'll likely be doing for the next few rounds of this combat).

HOSPICE OF THE BLESSED MAIDEN (Midland--West Dock; 12 Desnus)

Mega-Nebbin's one good hack is indeed enough to drop the cultist trying to force a logjam at the room's entrance. As another defender falls and Nebbin yells a blood vow at him, Rolth looks more concerned but doesn't yet lose all his bravado.

"Where is the healer-whore?" he shouts to Nebbin. "Did you leave her behind...alone? Perhaps my assistant can fetch her: She'd make a wonderful canvas for my next piece of artwork!"

While Rolth taunts, the remaining physicians position themselves and attack. Again, Emi and Firinne are swarmed. Although the ladies find themselves flanked, no blow gets through their defenses (though the tiefling's spared a nasty bruise when her conjured shield turns aside a potential hit.

Miakoda again inspires courage from the safety of the next room, but she moves closer to the doors, sensing that Emileva may be in need of healing soon. In the battle hall, Dr. Davaulus does something similar, pontificating from the catwalk, urging his allies to slay the non-believers for the glory of Urgathoa, pitching the idea that Korvosa is destined to become a giant necropolis in her name.

Davaulus is using inspire courage to buff the baddies. I'm going to keep Emi and Miakoda in their swapped positions in Initiative, at least until CrusaderWolf is back with us full-time.

ANDREZI, FIRINNE, and EMILEVA are up to kick off Round 2.

Can you get me up on the catwalk instead? Let me start dealing with Rolth.

Roll20 Battle Map

HOSPICE OF THE BLESSED MAIDEN (Midland--West Dock; 12 Desnus)

It's a bad day to have a #4 next to your name....

Emi and Firinne each drop a foe (Physician #4 and Cultist #4, respectively); each lady also inflicts a grievous wound on another nearby physician as well, thanks to Andrezi's haste spell. Emi takes a step back to a more defensible position; Firinne stays put, practically begging her foes to bring the fight to her!

Speaking of Andrezi, he uses dimension door to take the enlarged barbarian into the heart of the battle (though I'm not sure he didn't want to be transported to the top of the catwalk; nor am I convinced that structure can support a giant!). This development greatly agitates Rolth, who points at Nebbin and barks out a spell. (Will Save DC 18; read the spoiler below if you fail).

Spellcraft DC 18 (To ID Rolth's Spell):

Rolth just cast hold person at Nebbin.

NEBBIN Only; on a Failed DC 18 Will Save:

Your muscles seize up and you can't move...nor speak! You're paralyzed! You may attempt a new saving throw on your turn as a full-round action to end the effect.

Quick pause here for Nebbin's saving throw--it's a biggie! The result might greatly affect the cultists' next actions, so let's ask the dice gods for a good roll from Nebbin's player!

Secret GM Rolls:

Nebbin growls -- for maybe the first time in his life -- "You'll have to do better than that, Rolth! Your reign of terror ends NOW!"

And I definitely wanted to be on the catwalk!

Roll20 Battle Map

HOSPICE OF THE BLESSED MAIDEN (Midland--West Dock; 12 Desnus)

Gonna retcon a bit, as it'd be an easy enough thing for Nebbin to have told Andrezi that he wanted to be taken to the catwalk (speaking being a free action that you can do out of turn).

Andrezi sneezes mid-spell, and he and Nebbin blink into existence ever-so-briefly in the center of the scrum. An instant later, Nebbin's atop the catwalk between Rolth and the head doctor. Knowing that the catwalk's not wide enough to accommodate both of them in the positions they were in when he cast the spell, Andrezi reappears in thin air just beyond the walkway's eastern railing. The wizard instinctively tries to grab the railing, but the spell's magical burden is such that he's unable to take even such a simple action. Not particularly having wanted to engage either villain in melee anyhow, Andrezi tries to stick his landing to avoid serious damage from the 10-foot fall.

No dice--fatigued as he is from his previous summoning, the mage twists his ankle and falls prone. (3 damage)

The cultists press their attacks against Emi and Firinne, not realizing there's a prone mage over by the catwalk who's particularly vulnerable at the moment. One manages to scratch Emi (6 slashing damage) and Firinne's unable to parry her foe's attack (9 slashing damage; 1 point panache used).

NEBBIN and MIAKODA are up.

Roll20 Battle Map

HOSPICE OF THE BLESSED MAIDEN (Midland--West Dock; 12 Desnus)

The enraged giant Nebbin unleashes three mean swipes at Rolth with his greatsword. Though the ugly necromancer has magical protections in place, none are able to save him from the savage attacks! Amazingly, in the end Rolth still stands (albeit unsteadily); he's awash in his own blood and may be rethinking some of his life choices.

On the floor below, the physicians team up to surround and pummel Firinne; even the one previously fighting Emi joins in (protected from a potential OoC from the slayer by the wall corner--I learned something new today!). Though the tiefling defends herself admirably, the physicians' teamwork pays off, with two scoring thumping hits on vulnerable spots (20 bludgeoning total between two hits; pretty good for alleged doctors wielding mere clubs!).

Davaulus loses his team-first spirit swiftly once the giant swordsman appears on the catwalk. Taking a step back out of range of the big fellow's extended sword range, the doctor ask Nebbin a weird but simple question: "Why do nurses like to use red ink when they use inkpens for sketches? Sometimes they have to draw blood."

Blame the internet for that adapted Dad joke. Also, Nebbin must roll a DC 14 Will save. If you fail, check beneath the following spoiler.

NEBBIN Only on a Failed DC 14 Will Save:

Funniest. Joke. Ever. Nebbin cracks up to the point that he falls prone on the catwalk. He'll keep laughing until you roll a successful DC 14 Will save as a full-round action (or the spell's duration ends). 'Til then, he's prone and can take no actions.

Spellcraft DC 16 (To ID Spell Davaulus Cast):

He cast hideous laughter,

MIAKODA is still up. Moving to Round 3, ANDREZI may also act. EMILEVA and FIRINNE are also up, but they've got spoilers to read first.

EMILEVA Only:

You suddenly recall Madame Carington's Harrow reading and her words to you: "The Trumpet! A clarion call that summons power and fearlessness. Are you fearless, young warrior? This card suggests you will be called upon to take up a mantle in some kind or fashion. It suggests you may find your loyalty, if you have not already, and that you may be given a chance to champion that cause."

Your still not sure what exactly the old coot was trying to hint at, but it suddenly crosses your mind that if you bring the head false physician to justice (or maybe just his head)--which probably means to Field Marshal Kroft and not the Queen herself--you might be instrumental in both ending the plague and seeing justice done upon the Queen.

Your PC gains 14 temporary hit points and a +2 bonus on Fortitude saves (or other Constitution-related checks) for the rest of this battle.

FIRINNE Only:

You have a sudden and vivid vision of the old oreinomancer, Madame Carington, and her Harrow reading concerning your chosen card.

”Your card is The Sickness. Its meaning is readily apparent, especially here on a quarantined island. You must help confront the blood veil epidemic. Yet for you, one with what some might call tainted blood running through your veins, there may be a second meaning: not just corruption of your mortal body but of your very soul as well! Be on your guard, young one!”

Later, when the Sickness card reappears in the main reading, the harrower’s eyes again narrow and focus mainly upon Firinne. ”Whether you want it or not, your presence in the city at this time is most timely. One Milanite has left (she taps the top of Regeris’s card—the second one in front of Firinne that Carrington moved aside earlier) and the other is filled with doubt and seems content to merely treat the symptoms of what threatens to kill our city. (Kayleigh frowns at these insinuations but doesn’t interrupt.) A more direct action is needed; perhaps you can help excise the blood veil by taking your blade to the cancer that corrupts Korvosa.”

Damned if that's not exactly what you're doing now! You concede that maybe there was something more than mere words to her reading after all and feel that you're going to come out of this raid just fine.

Your PC gains 14 temporary hit points and a +2 bonus on Fortitude saves (or other Constitution-related checks) for the rest of this battle.

He then runs out of breath, but the words are enough. The three small air elementals charge their foes.

HOSPICE OF THE BLESSED MAIDEN (Midland--West Dock; 12 Desnus)

Emi eliminates the cultist before her, though it takes three swipes of her falchion to get the job done. One of Andrezi's newly-summoned elementals scores a hit on a physician while the other two fail to connect with their targets. Miakoda, bearing her inspirational flag in her left hand and a mace in her right, enters the fray to whack the remaining cultist with a glancing blow.

Rolth realizes he can't hope to stand against Nebbin's might. "You've not seen the last of Rolth Lamm!" he vows, taking a careful step away from the giant warrior, casting a spell, and disappearing. Meanwhile, the last cultist standing takes a swipe at Emi with his scythe but misses. He steps away from her, noticing it may already be too late to avoid being flanked....

NEBBIN and MIAKODA (if around) may take actions. I switched out Miakoda's IC +2 to Flagbearer +1, figuring this fight is pretty much in hand.

His first hack just barely misses the man--a good thing for the creep, as the giant's next two cuts connect and leave the good doctor badly wounded. Like Rolth, the coward steps back, casts a spell, and vanishes from sight.

The last surviving Urgathoan places a hand upon his grisly fly-shaped unholy symbol and calls upon the destructive power of death. Negative energy bursts forth, affecting ally and enemy alike! The Queen's Physicians cry out in pain and shock at this betrayal.

Nebbin steps toward where Andrezi said the physician was, and swings furiously. He uses the flat of his blade, hoping they can capture a prisoner who can tell them where Rolth went! Unfortunately, he can't see his target, so draws only a yelp as he just misses.

HOSPICE OF THE BLESSED MAIDEN (Midland--West Dock; 12 Desnus)

Firinne drops the last cultist and manages a stab on the physician to her north. When the badly-injured masked man opts to stay and fight with a second physician, she dodges two flanking attacks before a quick riposte finishes off the fellow. Andrezi's elementals flank and beat down another physician, leaving just the one south of Firinne.

Meanwhile, the invisible Dr. Davaulus indeed squeaks in terror as Nebbin somehow manages to miss with three vicious swipes with his greatsword. Andrezi can see the panicked doctor withdraw to the eastern part of the catwalk.

As a note, all the doors in the room are at floor level. I left Davalaus's token on the map for Andrezi; he's invisible to everyone else.

ALL PCs are up!

Emi has already committed to ascending the walkway, besides Firinne is probably faster. Also Emi has no desire to float around in the air. She calls out to let Firinne know.

"Go Firinne, I'm too far away!"

Emi continues forward, doing to her best to stay in the middle of the platform and take up as much space as possible so Rolth can't slip past her. When she reaches the intersection, she's uncertain which way to go. In frustration Emi shouts at him.

"Where the f&## are you Lamm! We slaughtered your elf b&#~$, took less than a minute! After she was dead we yanked her soul back to ask about you and she told us where to find you! Before that, we killed your greasy worm of a dad too! You're a weaselly piece of s$#+! Show some f!!%ing spine!"
