Cool. It's that vacation time of year - I just got back from the mountains myself. And I'll also be traveling for business (Wisconsin) next week, but I should be able to take the game with me.
On the subject of your last visit - yes it was the Trinia chase. You staked out the north entrance of the northernmost building (Perrin's Perch). In retrospect you now realize that it was Barvasi who came out and made the snide comment about rain coming. Emi and Regeris pretended to be involved with one another. Ordered a drink in the bar on the first floor, went upstairs and bumped into Barvasi leaving on the second floor, then went up to the third floor. Pilts and company came through the third floor bar (The World's Stage) while they staked things out there. When everyone got spooked, Regeris and Emi realized one of the fleeing patrons was likely Trinia and Regeris tailed her across the flat roof (the stage) of the middle building, over the eaves of neighboring buildings, and eventually to the end of a path through the Shingles where he witnessed her capture by the Grey Maidens.
That long sequence begins here.

Yeah, I've also got a handful of freelance projects that I've been working on. I think that'll ease up a bit by the end of the month, but it's taking up some of my free time now.

Let's figure out what we're doing, since right now it seems like we're making plans and then turning around and doing something else.
As much as it pains me to do so, I'm for slipping away and coming back at full strength, maybe with Inspector Wyndser and possibly Tiora. There's just too many doors for Jolistina to escape out of and not enough folks to watch them all.
On top of that, Kayleigh and Regeris really shouldn't enter the building, contagious as they are. That leaves three characters with bounties on their heads entering several buildings likely filled with cronies of Pilts Swastel. Those are some pretty ugly odds on getting out alive with Jolistina in tow.
I think it was Emi who made a great point: Since we learned that Jolistina could be found at the Overground from speaking with the dead guy's corpse, she may still feel safe there. If we slip away now, we should be able to come back fairly soon, hopefully with some allies and better prepared.
The flipside, of course, is that Rolth and Jolistina might kill more people while we delay.

I just don't see any good options for us right now. It seems unlikely we can accomplish anything meaningful where we're at. There's no reason to believe we'll catch the elf in either a fight or flee situation.
Until we're all better and back to normal we're gimped to badly to try provoking any fights. I think we're really searching for the poor choice that's least damaging rather than a win at the moment.
Tassira Vantyev |
That sounds alright.
There were a few other subplots we could tackle in the meantime--there was that Oneiromancy flyer we got, and Helvara has something she wanted some help with IIRC...
Kayleigh Fairwind |
Sounds like a plan.
Sick house, here I come!
DM Luke |
Getting caught up this afternoon. The business trip was busier and the evenings ran later than I expected.
Kayleigh Fairwind |
@Luke: I just thought of a detail that needs addressing/clarification. I don't think we specifically mentioned reporting to a guard station about the body we found in Penderghast's flat. If we passed a guardhouse in our travels after leaving that scene, I'd like to think we made a report...but I honestly don't know the city's layout well enough to know if we passed a station or not.
Could you let us know if we can assume this was done in the course of our travels or if we still need to explicitly do so? I seem to recall the field marshal censuring us for not reporting the Eel's End incident to Grau and don't want a repeat of that.
Regeris Smythe |
Push comes to shove - I'm kind of stuck on where Regeris is in all of this right now so he could report on what's gone down.
DM Luke |
You can assume a stop was made somewhere along the line to inform the guards of the trouble at the Penderghast flat.
And as an aside, holy crap the 2.0 Core is a beast! It's gonna take me some time to absorb all of that.

In the true spirit of Kayleigh the Cheapskate, I'm waiting for the pdf to drop next Thursday.

Haha I did the same thing. Looking forward to it though!

What are your thoughts on 2.0 so far? I haven't given it any attention.
I'm not sure if I'll be getting it or not. I don't mind it exists, but I'm short on time to plow through a new rules system right now. I figure the 1st edition games I'm currently involved in will keep me occupied for a couple of years more anyway.

I think gameplay looks like it could be really good. I like the three-action economy, and the penalties that mean higher levels may not be as much move to place X and stand there to full attack each round.
I still find something seems a little lacking in character building, though I'm not quite sure what or why. I don't know if it's just that there are all the classes/options that don't exist yet, but I just am finding that aspect a bit harder to get into.
As a designer, I'm enjoying the new types of rules and spaces to play in.
DM Luke |
Yeah I'd consider using it for the home brew I'm working on, but with all the supporting material I have for 1.0, I just can't bring myself to do it.
But then I'm getting ahead of myself anyway. I still have ALOT of reading to do...
Kayleigh Fairwind |
Good heavens, everyone's posting multi-paragraph posts and I'm trying to keep up with posting just a few lines every time...
Heh. My latest post was built over the course of maybe 5-6 hours while I was mainly listening to the Paizo seminars on their Twitch channel. Even when you're only writing a sentence or two here, a paragraph or two there, when you do it over the course of 5 hours it adds up. :)
I'll try to reel myself in some going forward.
Kayleigh Fairwind |
:)
By the way, how's your application coming along?
Meh, stuck in neutral. I was thinking of going with a human unchained rogue (knife master), but I've noticed at least a couple other applicants going with that class/archetype combo. I'm also worried that having no darkvision would make such a character a liability in the party. Lastly, my character's build was low-Str/high-Dex, so they wouldn't have decent damage output until 3rd level, when the finesse training ability's Dex-to-damage power kicks in. Given your imperious drow's ominous warning that each character will need to be able to survive on their own in the arena, I'm not sure my build in viable, so I might drop out of the recruitment.

For this game, though, I did some double-checking with the Heal skill's long-term care options. Before I forget, Regeris should have at least 1 potion of lesser restoration in reserve, which we could use to heal some additional ability score damage.
If we want to go to Lavender's/Artists Overground later in the day on 1 Desnus:
With 8 hours of long-term care, Regeris could heal Emi and Nebbin of 2 Con/2 Cha each. We could then head to wherever we're going by late afternoon or early evening.
If we wait to go to Lavender's/Artists Overground on 2 Desnus:
Emi and Nebbin could take a day (24 hrs.) of complete bed rest, and Regeris's long-term care would instead heal 4 Con/4 Cha each, fully healing the ability score damage on both Emi and Nebbin. Kayleigh could then use her restorative touch power on Regeris to remove his fatigue from pulling an all-nighter. Assuming no one else develops symptoms, Kayleigh could prepare some extra lesser restoration spells to try to deal with the ability score damage of herself and Regeris.
*************************
I prefer Option Two: Wait 'til 2 Desnus. Natural healing of ability scores is preferable to lesser restoration healing as it affects all types of damage in the same time frame, whereas with the spell it's an either/or Con-or-Cha deal.
I also think we should prioritize Lavender's over Artists Overground for now, simply because the latter will need more planning and discretion (since we know that Pilts Swastel almost certainly has his claws into the Old Dock watch, asking Grau for assistance might actually result in tipping off Jolistina that we know where she lives).
Kayleigh Fairwind |
I'm open to discussion, but I think you're either losing or gaining ability damage over a given day. So I don't think doubling your ability healing applies when you're still diseased. Being that the current day (Desnus 1) is the first day of halted disease for all concerned, I will apply those rolls to the current day and assume that ability healing becomes effective on the morning of Desnus 2.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? The "I think you're either losing or gaining ability damage over a given day" part is what confuses me, so I'm going to present it from another angle.
Assuming that Kayleigh gets her spells at 8 AM every morning....
Shortly after 8 AM on Desnus 1, Kayleigh instantly removes the disease from herself and the 3 other PCs. Shouldn't the healing begin right then if the PCs choose that option? They can choose to rest for 8 hours while Regeris uses long-term care on them (which should double the normal ability score healing to 2 points apiece and have them semi-ready to visit Lavender some time after 4 PM) or choose 24 hours of complete bed rest with Regeris providing the long term care that restores 4 points of ability damage to each score by 8 AM or so on Desnus 2.
DM Luke |
Yep that sounds reasonable to me. The thing I was debating (with myself) was if Regeris's efforts could have been useful on Gozran 31, after everyone knew Emi and Nebbin were affected but before they were cured. What I intended to assert was that while they were losing ability score (still infected), they couldn't benefit from his Healing except in the 'Treat Disease' flavor.
Kayleigh Fairwind |
Wow--totally forgot about that! I knew empowered cure spells was on the horizon but forgot about the new merciful healing condition! And it looks like I wouldn't need the make a caster level check, the bane of Kayleigh's existence!
(In all truth, I also kinda forgot about the MH boon she got at 3rd level, because I don't think anyone's been sickened recently. Thanks for the reminder!)
Kayleigh Fairwind |
Crap! Still, that's 7 more chances per day--can't hurt. (Once she heals her Cha damage, that is.)
Kayleigh Fairwind |
Looks like a visit to Lavender is next on our schedule.
If we rush out immediately, Kayleigh, Emileva, and Nebbin will be at -10 hp and -2 on Fort saves due to their Con damage. Waiting 8 hours for Regeris to perform long-term care would halve those to -5 hp and -1 on Fort saves (for Emi and Nebbin; Kayleigh's SOL). We do the 24-hour bed rest thing and Emi and Nebbin would have all their ability damage (Con and Cha) healed, plus Kayleigh could prep additional lesser restoration spells to start dealing with the ability damage she and Regeris have suffered.
So what I'm saying is it looks like Emi and Nebbin choose when we head out and in what condition.
Oh--and we let Tassira (no Cha penalty) do most of the talking.
Regeris Smythe |
Just because coordinating how we conduct actions can be complicated in-game, the question is if we spent the time to apply long-term care or if we head out. I think the new doctors thing is worth showing up to but as always dfer to group.

Sorry for the spottiness of my posting lately. I've started the process of hunting for and buying a house. It's crazy how much time it eats up. I'll do my best to keep my posting on schedule, but if I'm holding things up, go ahead and bot me to keep things moving.

This is going out to all the games I'm either playing in or running: I'm in the path of Hurricane Dorian, so I'll be battening down the hatches and preparing for the worst.
I'll try to post updates in the games I run on Monday. If I'm holding anyone up in the meantime, please go ahead and bot me.

Good luck weathering the storm. I'm only gonna get a little wind and rain as it brushes past later today. Hope the hurricane continues to lose steam before it reaches you.
Regeris Smythe |
As I'm in northern Canada, hurricanes are just this terrifying abstract to me. Hope everything is okay.
DM Luke |
Welcome back Tassira. I hope everything stayed bolted down in your neck of the woods. Was the storm bad where you were?
Regeris Smythe |
This weekend is madness. Updates will come Sunday/Monday. Thanks for your patience!

So again apologies for my absences. I'm still in the house buying thing and every time I think I'm nearing the end of the list of things I have to do, more stuff gets added to the list.
It's about over though, the deal closes in two more weeks I'll have the keys. Then things will finally get back to normal.

Quick Note: The third anniversary of the start of this awesome campaign just passed, so I'm gonna give another big Thank You to Luke for running this game and acknowledge my fellow players for making this game special.

Happy three years everyone!
