DM Luke |
My apologies as well. We've had a medical crisis in the family this week that's killed my free time. I'll get a post in tonight or tomorrow morning to set the stage for the new day.
Nebbin Elsbet |
Hope the crisis is resolving, DM Luke.
Just checking, am I sick now too? (That's how I read the last post, but wanted to make sure.)
I may be a little spotty posting still for the next 10 days or so -- it's Thanksgiving and then my folks are coming to visit for a few days. Sorry in advance!
DM Luke |
Yep, Nebbin. You have the same rash that Kayleigh's illness started with.
Unfortunately my father-in-law has had his largest stroke to date, leaving him mostly paralyzed on one side and unable to do much of anything for himself. He seems to be very slowly recovering some capabilities day-by-day, but he has a very long road to any kind of real recovery (he's 88). What a drag it is getting old!
Kayleigh Fairwind |
Kayleigh, should I post something in response to your dream sequence? It sounds like you might have lapsed into a daydream.
No need to reply. I have a Dream Part II post mostly done that involves Tassira (and Emi).
Sorry to hear about your father-in-law, Luke.
Kayleigh Fairwind |
How much GP did we each get?
EDIT: Should be 1,022.246 GP.
If anyone needs Kayleigh's funds, feel free to take them, Otherwise, I'll likely have her pick up the reagents for casting masterwork transformation to use on her morningstar, armor, and buckler (and anything anyone else wants upgrades).
Regeris Smythe |
Ugggh. Sorry to hear that GM. It's everyone's curse to watch our family age :(
Kayleigh Fairwind |
He slumps against a wall, not sure what else he can do to help.
Make a big pot of coffee! And don't fall asleep!!
DM Luke |
Hi folks. Thanks for the kind words. We're packing everyone up and going to see him in the next couple of days, so I may continue with my uneven posting.
On the dreams subject, the rest of you sleep ok. I'll let you make of that what you will. :)
Regeris Smythe |
Looove the dreams. This is such a great group.
Just to clarify on timelines - Regeris spent most of the previous day tailing the Asmodeans, met up with Emi after she returned from Vencarlo's, everyone slept, it's now the next morning?
DM Luke |
Yep. I didn't drop date markers Regeris, but you have it exactly right.
Kayleigh Fairwind |
Sorry about jumping us ahead. I seem to have a mental block about Kayleigh trying to cure Lady Vantyev the first day she arrived at the manor...but the party arrived there late, after the whole business in the Shoanti warrens: Kayleigh didn't cast her first set of remove disease spells 'til the following morning. The frustration about the non-stop crappy rolls is trying my patience a bit, too. I don't want to hold everyone else up until I manage to roll something above an 11.
Regeris Smythe |
Nah it's cool. I'd have thrown my monitor out the window at that point. The odds of getting that many rolls below ten are ludicrously small at this point.
Tassira Vantyev |
Yeah, that's the sort of luck I'd expect when I play a paladin. Don't worry about it, Kayleigh.
I'm hoping to at least get a few scrolls of remove disease and give this healing thing a try.
DM Luke |
Is the current Kayleigh/Tassira discussion after Kayleigh's 3rd roll (Gozran 26)? I assume it is since Tassira referenced cleaning her robes. If so and Tassira swapped out identify, etc, go ahead and resolve that. Figuring out what you have might help you split the wealth so you can use some of those funds!
Also assuming it is, I'll halt that thread to see what Emi & Regeris did with the 25th before resolving.

Yep.

Casting identify on the metal funnel and metal rod...
Spellcraft (Funnel): 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (12) + 21 = 33
Spellcraft (Rod): 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (16) + 21 = 37
...and I'll spend the reservoir points to keep those slots ready.
Nebbin Elsbet |
Sorry, all. I feel like I've been slow to respond between real-world activities and this current scene just not really playing to Nebbin's strengths (or even weaknesses, honestly). He wouldn't leave the two girls, but he's about as useful here as a bicycle for a fish.
Emileva Mavrakis |
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and found a safe to place huddle during the terror that is Black Friday. Or, if this doesn't apply, had a good couple of days.
Emileva Mavrakis |
Maybe it would be faster and easier to hash out the eel's end thing here.
So, in case anyone doesn't remember, a while back Vencarlo handed Emi a bunch of gold and tasked her with negotiating/buying some information (letters I believe) from the Eel's End boss. Vencarlo wants to use them to embarrass a Chelaxian spy at court.
I don't know if it's a small quest or something bigger, so hard to say if it needs the whole party or not. I'd tend to think no, but Devargo isn't a small fry so it's hard to guess.
I'm fine with the idea of going with Regeris and Tiora to do it while the rest of the group is away. The only reservations I have are:
1. This is going to be a negotiation so Tassira's sky-high diplomacy bonus could be very handy. Emi's at +7, compared to Tassira's +12 or Kayleigh's +9.
2. I don't want to cut the party out of the side mission if it turns out to be something bigger. This could be simple, or a more significant and cool part of the bigger plot.
So, what do you all think? Do you want us to wait, and then do it when we're all back together? Or should we go ahead and get it out of the way so we can move on to other things?
Kayleigh Fairwind |
I'm split on the situation. Kayleigh's committed to helping Tassira's mother. She feels (rightly so) that instead of making things better she's made them worse by infecting Lady Vantyev with whatever disease she picked up in the Dead Warrens. In-character, Kayleigh wouldn't leave her post until (at the very least) she cured the noblewoman of the disease she'd unwittingly passed on.
Maybe I can speed up the PbP process of resolving this matter by rolling multiple days' worth of CL checks for Kayleigh's remove disease spells; then Luke can say something like, "After another three days, Kayleigh finally manages to remove the disease that's been ravaging herself and Lady Vantyev." (And maybe Nebbin can get healed, too.)
DAY ONE
Kayleigh remove disease CL Check (Lady Vantyev): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Kayleigh remove disease CL Check (Lady Vantyev): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Kayleigh remove disease CL Check (Kayleigh): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Kayleigh remove disease CL Check (Kayleigh): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Hey! That might (finally) do the trick! Another 4 rolls just in case, though....
DAY TWO
Kayleigh remove disease CL Check (???): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Kayleigh remove disease CL Check (???): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Kayleigh remove disease CL Check (???): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Kayleigh remove disease CL Check (???): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Regeris Smythe |
Hah - I like the idea of just jamming the fast-forward button and reunite the group and we push on to Eel's End together. It COULD be a big deal or not since that's all on Luke's vision, but if it's a negotiation we want some people with diplomacy checks.
Regeris Smythe |
That sounds like one of them good problems. Good as in narratively interesting.

Hi guys, thanks for the patience. I'm back (figuratively speaking, since I'm 'back' on business travel). I'm all for moving us forward with a big post from my end.
Things change radically in the city over the next couple of days and the party really can't do anything about it until it's whole again. So let's say I'm going to post us forward a couple of days and take some narrative liberties with your characters. I'll work into my description of these days time for the group to have done any inventory liquidation/maintenance, so take a critical eye to your characters and figure out if there's something you want to do with the cash you'd end up with. Assume you get the quoted prices for all the items you've identified so far.
Also, take these results into your figuring:
UNIDENTIFIED
metal funnel - this is a hybridization funnel
metal rod - this is a traveler's anytool
I'm also assuming:
* Kayleigh is investigating notes that contain language she doesn't understand - Tassira would help out by swapping comprehend languages for her. Probably when she's done bathing.
* Emi and Tiora accompany Regeris to a bar in the Heights.
* The party will re-establish contact between the two halves and much of what passed in the discussion thread above is overtly discussed between you. You conclude that Eel's End is dangerous enough to warrant the whole party going. Especially since Emi's not going to blow a wad of money on sex, drugs or rock & roll, but is conducting business with the big man.
That's liable to be a big post, but it should set us back into more interesting waters for everyone.
Nebbin Elsbet |
I assume no one wants the funnel (though could be wrong of course), but how about the tool?
As is, from my post on the previous page, I think we've got 5,111 gp, 23 sp, which divided 5 ways is 1,022 gp, 6 sp, 6 cp. Add 20 gp each for the funnel (and 25 gp each if no one claims the tool).
(Normally I like to do a split for party treasure, but I don't think we need to do that at this lower level.)
DM Luke |
Sorry this is taking some time. I'll try to get this monster finished tonight...
Regeris Smythe |
All good, we're not going anywhere.
Kayleigh Fairwind |
If no one's going to take up Kayleigh on her offer of giving out loans, she'll pick up enough reagents to use masterwork transformation on her morningstar, breastplate, buckler, and purchase stuff for one more weapon.
1,042.66 gp - 900 gp = 142.66 gp remaining (and added to character sheet).
DM Luke |
OK, here's the first two days. I'll follow up with narrative from Gozran 27 when I post tomorrow, and then we'll pick up role play on the 28th.
Regeris Smythe |
Great stuff, looking forward to the next day!

This is from an old dream sequence that I never posted. I figure it's worth posting now just for Milani's punchline. :)
MILANI’S ODE TO NEBBIN
- from a conversation between the goddess and her servant in one of Kayleigh’s dreams/visions
“When your warring emotions make you feel like you’re adrift upon a storm-tossed sea, Nebbin can be your anchor. When you feel lost and aren’t sure what to do, let him be your rudder. You already know that when you’re under physical attack he’ll be your catapult or ballista and neutralize the threat, and that his iron-clad hull will protect your stern.”
Milani smiled in mischievous amusement and added, “Sorry for all the nautical metaphors, but you must admit: The young man’s as big as a boat!”
Regeris Smythe |
Hey guys, sorry for no posts. I'll be back in action tomorrow. Life is being a crazy life but things shall settle down.
Emileva Mavrakis |
I'm not sure if Kayleigh, or Kayleigh + Smith was misreading Emi, but in case it was both. Emi has no issues whatsoever with Kayleigh and Nebbin so long as it doesn't get her left in the lurch in the middle of a fight. Mostly she was just amused at all the pussyfooting around by them.
Also, although I'd rather just drop hints about things along the way, PbP really telescopes out in time so it can be quite hard to keep track of such things, even if they get noticed. So, there is a larger point to Emi and Vencarlo aside from just extra plot. As much as Emi has been stung and angry about Ansel, she has learned absolutely nothing from it. She's as completely in the bag for Vencarlo, for better or worse, as she was for Ansel. She's really a very needy person, even if she can't express it directly.

"One thing I'll tell you for sure. Don't consider her so much before you work out what you're feeling. It can be easy to fall into the trap of 'they like me and so I like them too'. I've done it a couple of times in the past myself, and it only brought me trouble."
