Lost Mines of Phandelver 5E D&D (Inactive)

Game Master Aneirin Rhodri

The town of Phandalin was once a prosperous town for prospectors and some farmers thanks to the now lost mines of Wave Echo Cave. But as time passed the mine was lost to history. But now things are afoot in the small town as the trail is being under threat by monsters and the Rockseeker brothers have disappeared! Will the PCs be able to assist the town, or will they become nothing but a footnote in the annals of the Forgotten Realms?

Cripes, that's a short recruitment window. Well, I'm interested; I'll see if I can get a character together tonight. Here's my trinket roll, just in case this works out:

Trinket: 1d100 ⇒ 24

Dunno what it is, since my book's at home. Guess I'll have a surprise waiting for me!

Liberty's Edge

Looks like you are the proud owner of a multicolored stone disk! Congrats..lol

@Jiggy: I've seen recruitment windows that remained open for weeks and the thread fills with lots of non-recruitment talk, lots of edits, etc. As a bit of an experiment and to let me hop back into games I kept the window a bit small. That said, I am quite pleased with the applications that have been submitted and greatly look forward to seeing your submission!

Adran's background has now been updated for the Realms. Let me know if there's any more information you need.

Okay, still not at home with my books, but I have some questions:

1) I'm guessing we're starting at 1st level, but I didn't see that spelled out anywhere, so just to confirm, is that correct?

2) Suppose that I end up with a medium-armor character who isn't offered medium armor in his starting package. (For instance, fighters are only offered light or heavy, despite being proficient in medium. Alternatively, maybe I make a light-armor character using the variant human to pick up medium armor proficiency.) In such a case, would it be acceptable to replace my starting armor with a medium option? (Obviously the specific armor would be whatever the default starter option is for medium-armor classes like (IIRC) ranger or cleric.)

3) Same as above, but with classes that have a 1st-level option that changes their proficiencies. For instance, if a cleric domain grants me heavy armor proficiency at 1st level, can I take whatever the starter form of heavy armor is instead of the cleric's default? What about with weapons?

4) Many of the backgrounds include a small bit of cash. Can that be spent on additional (cheap) gear, such as a healer's kit?

1 - Yes, players start at level 1.

2- Hmm, never really thought about that... I would prefer the base package, though... Hmm... Sure, as long as you have a solid reason as to having it that way. I was also unaware that the variant human granted a tool proficiency, I thought it was a skill proficiency.
3 - Once again, I'd have to have a real solid reason as to why.
4 - Same as 2 & 3

I took the basic package for equipment...background updated.

Thank you Vic!

The update appears in the Story spoiler of the profile.

Arrius Bersk, at your service!

Backstory and stats are in the profile. Planning to go Pact of the Blade. If you'll allow it, it'd be fun for my rolled trinket (the multicolored stone disk) to be my arcane focus. Otherwise, it's a "crystal".

Looking forward to your decision, and feel free to ask any questions. (Ironically, I didn't end up running into any of the situations I asked about; this guy's totally default!)

Quick thing, Vic: I was reading your profiles story, and it still references Absalom. I assume you meant probably some place like Baldur's Gate, yes?

@Arrius: Looks solid! Will now add you to the list!

Alright, going to go ahead and call it here for submissions since I have quite a few good entries.

I will now be reviewing applicants and will declare the winning four shortly.

Final list for my assistance:

Torbin Juventus - Human Cleric of Tyr Soldier
Peren - High Elf Fighter Noble
Nariella Fuinel - High Elf Rogue Spy
Victor "Vic" Lofliss - Half-Elf Rogue Burglar
Adran Laidon - High Elf Warlock Astronomer
Selestra Silverleaf - Lightfoot Halfling Bard Entertainer
Deruvian - Human Bard Entertainer
Arrius Bersk - Half-Elf Warlock Discredited Academic

All right, after reviewing, rereading and breaking down and even getting a little help from my fiancee, but I have the list!

Drumroll please!

The Chosen Four:

Nariella Fuinel! High Elf Spy Rogue
Torbin Juventus! Human Soldier Cleric of Tyr
Arrius Bersk! Hal-Elf Discredited Academic Warlock
Peren! - High Elf Noble Fighter

The choice was tough, I'll give you that! If you weren't chosen, I apologize but fret not! The characters submitted were all great and I would also like to extend the best of luck to all others in their future gaming ventures!

Making the OOC thread now, where I would like the group to post first.
