As ever the scout he quickly comes back to the group with the account of Olivira torturing someone with a brand. Bringing the group quickly to the entrance of the baricade he dismounts and draws his bow aiming at Olivira yelling, "Stop what you are doing... or else I will..."

At Ernost's shout and the others coming into view he quickly gets between them and Olivira, holding the blade menacingly towards them. Only after they put their weapons down does he do the same.

Detect Evil:
No evil is found with her, Sable, or Hundor.

She stops and then takes a few steps back from Sable, "This is a ritual that he has asked for, the bandits that we captured have agreed to subjection. It is a painful process but one that brings great power. As most power gain is not pleasure." She nods to Johanna and waits for the others to put down their weapons before she steps up again saying to Sable, "Ok brace yourself, I will put it on the count of three. One, Two..." Sizzle goes the brand as she quickly presses it to his back.

Sable flails against his bindings but they keep him in place. The gag keeps him from yelling out it is more of a muffled groan. Then he lays still with a smile on his face.

She looks up at the onlookers saying with a feisty smile, "Then again it also depends on who administrates the ritual..." She licks her lips, tosses the brand to the side and pulls another from her belt. Taking it to another bandit she presses it on him and repeats the process with arcane words.

Once she is done with the ritual she walks up to the group or at least Halseen, "I object to being called evil. This is the image that seemed appropriate but I am no succubus. Jevar and Sable seemed to like it, should I change my appearance?!" You can tell she is rather upset.

Ignoring the likely stares, gazes, disapproval or approval Koldu gets to the heart of the matter.

"Grub?" he grumbles.

"We have been here for the last two days, set up camp and have been waiting. A band of bandits came upon us and those we did not kill have become dedicates. Yes perhaps safer back at the castle but since we had the time and materials." She relays and shrugs her shoulders in response to doing the ritual here.

"Yes Koldur, you will find the main tent with my moderate spread." She smiles and offers to the dwarf with warmth in her words.

"The new dedicates are being taken care of humanely and soon will be moved to my domicile." She answers Johanna. "I understand, also if Sable wanted to get free he could if he really worked at it."

Then responding to Halseen again, "I take no offense and as I said I understand. Now you understand as well. I have been focusing on the ritual, I have not seen or heard from you until just now. Unlikey since my art seems like dark arts to the standard magic user here anyway."

The halfling responds with his own anger. Red magical runes appear on his body as his muscle mass doubles. He grabs the drow and slams him to the ground.

CMB grapple: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
CMB grapple: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27

Then purple runes appear as well and he seems to be able to make another move at lightning speed, pinning the drow's arm behind his back and foot on his neck.

"Don't ever do THAT again," he says with a deathly resolve. He then tosses the arm to the side and walks away. Leaving camp angerly.

With Olivira's help he is unbound and he takes the rolled up cloth out of his mouth. Then with a well amount of determination he keeps his temper, "No first they had the choice to repent from their banditry or be put to the sword. Then they were offered the chance to do hard work within the kingdom for 5 years or become a dedicate. I am judge and jury as goes with any of us who holds seats of power in this kingdom." He takes an offered towel from Olivira which came from out of thin air and wipes himself down. Leaving the towel around his neck he holds it there as he talks with Halseen.

She first offers a very arcane way of describing what she does which takes about a half hour though at confused or lost looks she stops after a few minutes. K Arcane DC 30, you understand the basic components of the Rune Smithing Art. K Arcane DC 40 you understand it fully and might be able to begin doing it too. Then she asks, "Does that make sense?"

Assuming no one makes the check: She sighs with a bit of frustration and tries to simplify the process, "The magic binds the master to the slave, or dedicate. Your words not mine but I guess that makes it to what you know. The master gains the bonus of one ability score and the dedicate loses it. Yes life is not as normal for the dedicate now that he has less of an ability but the master needs to provide a safe place to live and sustenance for the dedicates. I use the metal 'brand' to seal the binding. It heats up with magic not like a normal brand."

He stops and turns around noticing that Johanna is talking to him. He comes back stomping, the runes on his body have dispersed and he is back to his normal size, stopping 10 feet from Johanna he asks angrily, "I protect my own, I thought Jevar was one but I guess not. I don't know why he laid his hands upon me though he will think of it a second time before doing it again or I will have to teach him another lesson!"

"Comrades... maybe. We all took an oath for this kingdom but many of us have not fought beside each other before. Some are brand new to us as well. I don't know what got into Jevar, that seems out of character for our level headed slayer. Then again that might just show us that there are sides we have not seen yet. Koldur and I are long time rivals, we know of each other well enough though up until the charter to explore the Stolenlands, we had not adventured together. I would say I know him better than the rest of you in our council or here." The elf says with an easy response of clarification.

Koldur stands up as he hears where the meal is located however he scowls as he does so.

"Look around us. We took oath but it's clear that each of us has a different outlook on how we do things. Though we can be judge, jury and executioner, I for one would very much prefer us to consult over this as we are a council. No word was sent to the rest of us and We arrive looking at what could have being a ritual meant for evil. Something you have explained well Olivria. And how it's not." he pauses as he nods towards the succubus.

"Olivira here wants dedicates so as to gain power. These bandits chose to live rather then die and given I know well of Sable's skills with his sword. They perhaps could have faced him and lost, choosing instead to preserve their lives. Sensible but perhaps not pleasing to the rest of us on the method." dusting himself as he empties his pipe and stowing it.

"Nice takedown, Hundor. Jevar, that was a strange thing you did. What made you do that? We're all here. Best to sort out our differences and understand each other. We're here for the long haul. Johanna." he addresses the woman.
"I'm off to have a meal and rest my sore buttocks. I trust that you have things well in hand here." with that done, the dwarf gingerly makes his way towards the indicated tent.

He may not exactly like or trust Olivra but her cooking was good.

Still, his eyes normally weren't so bad as to make he think someone was missing a mouth and something was painted on in it's place.

He sighed and brushed his clothes off as he stood up slowly. "Sorry, I should've asked first. I fear my eyes are playing tricks on me at this point. Hundor sighs and then begins to laugh. Once restraint is back he shakes his head at Jevar saying in a relieved voice, "Oh, yeah, my lips are gone. A problem with the runes. Olivira has been working on it but part of my face and lips were necroticed away. The tissue merely died and sloughed off. Yes you should have asked first, especially before poking your finger into my mouth... is that normal for Drow? This puts me at much more ease, thank you for explaining. Also that did hurt!"

"Sable, most countries with lesser ambitions of goodness than I understood us to have have laws against entering a contract under duress. They also have rules about what you can ask for in a contract. And that still leaves the fact that if you magically compel someone to complete a contract the contract is meaningless. It should be the law overseen impartially that binds an agreement. If it is magic how can we be sure the enchanted party can bring contract disputes to a judicial body?

I'm having fun RPing an argument over contract law and the legal deffinition of informed concent in magic land, but I get people want to get on with the adventure. So I can save it for a councle meeting.

Once the issue at hand is settled for the moment, the group takes down two of the three tents, moves the former bandits to the wagons, and gets ready to head out. The issue of the contracts to be settled at a later date.

Responding to Halseen and Helferick, "We did not magiaclly compel or under duress coerice them into the contract. They were given two options from doing their crime. Either do hard labor for five years or become a dedicate. Being a dedicate they would lose some of their strength, though we will provide them a place to live, food, wine, and try to make their life as pleasant as possible. They are welcome to live their lives within the castle for the first year and possibly into the capital after that. The contract can be severed through a painful process but is normally severed at the cost of the 'masters' life. The dedication typically lasts until the end of one of their lives."

"No Hundor I was going to address the council at the next meeting. As members have declined in the past and I doubt any more would be welcome especially the way most of them are reacting to this magic."

If pressed about what Hundor is speaking of:
She relays, "Hundor is speaking of his unmarked blood pact. We have Sable and Jevar but it would be better if at least four mortals were there to help Hundor. We could take up to eight mortals.

You offer up to be connected to him and then increase in power as a group.

We could increase an ability score, allow the group be invisilbe for a time each day, harden your skin to not take blows so hard, temper your bodies to be more tolerant to a specific energy, the list is nearly endless but we need to pick one thing and then get the material components for the spell."

The halfling will gain in spades what those gain simply as a boost. If you chose to increase the strength of those in the blood pact. Each would increase by 2 in strength but the halfling would gain at least 4. Or if you chose to use damage reduction, each in the blood pact would gain 1/magic as he would likely have 3/magic. He and you gain those abilities. If you include me in the pact I can strengthen it. Each gaining DR 3/magic as the halfling gains DR 5/magic.

If we don't soon choose individuals to protect him, then more demons and other outsiders will likely come a calling. At the moment it is a clarion call to all outsiders to come claim the contract for themselves. We have defeated a few lower level demons but it will get worse the longer the contract is not signed."

As the camp is nearly finished being collected and the former bandits are put in the wagons. She pops her head into the large central pavilion and smiles at Koldur, "We are about ready to head out, come out so I can collect the tent."

Once he exits she moves her hands making glowing runes in the air and with a few arcane words the pavilion shrinks down to a foot tall. She collects it and puts it in a pocket on her belt.

If council members though to bandits and prisoners are magically bound to you does that not mean that the distribution of powers the protects the princess's kingdom (I hope this is the right tiles Halseen would know I'm dumb) is weaken because controlling you mean controlling those bound to you?"

"Finally, was making people dedicate a punishment ratified upon under the charter for the crime of bandritry? In other words did the council vote that a life time sentence could be handedout by a government official pre-trail for the crime of bandritry?"

Resigned that it does not seem like people really want a kingdom of laws and goodness he says quite sadly, but speaking more to himself than any one else, "How can people with a life sentence reform? How can we be great of we are not good first? How do we build a worthy kingdom without being worthy people?

"Put me under whatever magic you want if you think my motive are anything other that good, I left everything for the chance to build something great. If what I have said incorrect tell me now and tell me why."

"Contracts are fine. I and we are a lawful kingdom. And yes Halseen they were already given mercy as bandit activity is to be dealt with at the cost of their lives by the charter. So the dedicate is not a slave, they become like a vassal or a follower. The master cares for them as they provide for the master. I can't see evil in this as it could do well to serve the greater good. Bolstering champions to fight the undead and the threat on the land, but it smells of corruption and will need to be watched."

So I think 21 was were we cleared, it had the boar, so now we need to clear 11, 4, 5. 15 is clear on the map already.

Making criminals magically bound indentured servants has no place in a kingdom that wants to be good. If someone is indenture for a lifetime they are a slave."

She just ignores the first question, then answers the first plight for goodness and law, "Yes, of course there are more powerful beings than I that may threaten the kingdom. Do I know any specifically, no."

"If someone took the dedicates from the safe home we would not weaken only by their deaths would we weaken and only by the measure of those killed. We have a responsibility to watch over them, as any ruler would his or her citizens. If they were captured it would not hold any thing against us."

"No."

To his resigned whimper she responds rather vehemently, "I am not taking their free will, I am not shackling them into a dungeon, I am not using my prejustices to burn them at the stake, there are a lot of unfair rulers in this world. You act as if you know the life of a dedicate! You don't! If they are not taken care of humans and any other creature would die even in their prime. Anything can be corrupted, magic is not evil or good until it is used in such a way."


I thought someone wanted to take the piggies back to the capital. Sable, Hundor and Olivira don't know. Sable had taken the lead before but now he is looking to follow, likely more now than before.

"You should watch how you damn things." She whispers harshly to Halseen looking at Johanna. "I never said they had to work..." She raises her hand and then drops it shaking her head. Her lips whitening from the force of keeping them shut. Stomping away from the man she goes to the main pavilion and gets Koldur out of it. Once he is out she snaps her fingers the pavilion drops and shrinks. Once it is secured she does some quick arcane gestures and a white arch forms behind her and glittering green energy appears within the arch. She steps back and is gone.

Now fully armored and clothed with his full gear assembled he walks up and draws his great sword, laying the blade to rest on Halseen's shoulder he states with a stern whisper, "I am good with a sword, shall I show you? No? I didn't think so." Assuming Halseen does nothing.

Taking the blade away from his shoulder with no harm done to him physically he states to Johanna, "You might want to look into getting a leash for that muzzle. He might have some excellent points but the way the words were brought up, I would have killed a man for less. He can speak through you, I don't want to hear him again."

He then mounts up and pulls out his maps looking at which direction to take. Putting them away he makes a noise with his mouth and his horse begins to head North.
