Xochti moves to make sure the door is clear for people to get out, even as she continues to watch the floor and the ominous cracks which are spreading across it.

The ground shakes again and more jars fall the ground, some shattering very violently, sparks start to fly as the reagents start to react violently, spitting and fizzing. The clound thinkens in colour and doubles in size (though still hasn't reached you), engulfing the corpse and the patient, the cloud is too think for you to see what happens

"I don't like this one bit." Agia continues to back away, casting guidance on a nearby ally.. say the Madwand... if she has time. She has her trident in hand and ready for trouble.
As of his time I have neither the energy, nor inclination to reply to the thread's happenings. Been a long series of shifts and the differences in time-zones isn't helping.
I do hope the other players/characters can have fun/get a good run up at saving the kids.
Lots of work and no sleep make Peebo not a happy...something, something...

Back out and looking down on all the children, So HOW do we get them out of here? I'll help where I can but I'm just a sword. Short of cutting down who did this I am out of ideas.

Agia
Spoiler:
The brain worms must have been used to control the prisoners some how, if you could find how it was done you could lead them out of the cave easily and effectively
Female Human (I +3; P +4) Cleric 3 (HP 31/31, 0 nonlethal)
"Those things in their heads keep control of the prisoners, somehow. They can't do whatever they want and might fight us if we try to bring them out. If we could find the thing controlling them, we can break that hold and maybe get them out easily!" Agia calls to the others as she coughs and backs with them from the jar tower.

You head down one of the many tunnels, the stone suddenly gives of to metal walls and a faint smell of swamp water. The tunnel winds down to a pit with black water at the bottom, On the other side of the pit there is a metal door, bolted onto the rock face

Xochti
Spoiler:
The metal was built straight into the rock, its old but not very old, no more than a century. The stone isn't that sturdy around here so the metal walls must be for stability, something important should be behind that metal door
"Hmm....unstable lines in the rocks here..." She muses, "Possible fractures...." She slowly wanders towards the metal door. "Maybe extra bracing to keep the chamber beyond from collapsing in...?" She ponders.
Perception:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 (Looking for traps and such, though no skill in disarming them)
Xochti shakes her head, "No real skill...but a bit of engineering lets one understand the gist of the thing." She points.
"The door is rigged to spring open and throw who ever is in front of it back into the water." Xochti moves over and examine said pool of liquid blackness.
perception:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
(And add the DM's exposition of whatever said fluid is capable of doing to a body)
She returns to the door and examines the handle mechanism.
"So...if we can some how twist the opening mechanism from afar, we should have the door open and no one wet." She looks to her Uncle for approval or addition thoughts.

How far down is the water? Can we have a rope around someone's waist as they open it and have it short enough to stop them from falling into the water?
Male Dwarf HP 45/45 AC 18 FF 17 T 11 F +8 R +3 W +4 CMD 17 Init +1
"I'll open the door with my rope tied to waist. Aden and Hasar, if you could hold onto the rope to prevent me from falling into the water I'd appreciate it.
Assuming everyone is OK with that, those two will hold the rope with a little slack as possible while Durgen opens the door and takes it in the face.
Male Human Cavalier 3(Honor Guard, Stratagist)AC 20/13/17 HP: 25/30 and 1 non-lethal
Actually, Durgen, I will do it. I don't have any spellcasting so better to risk me.
Plus I have more HP and 1pt will convert to non-leathal. More efficient for healing
Aden sets the rope around his waist and stands as far to the side as possible, on tje opposite side of the doors hinges, hoping to avoid the swing or reduce the hit. When Hashar and Durgen give a nod they are ready, he opens the door....
Xochti also points out that if Aden stands on this particular side of the door when he works the handle he'll be less likely to get smacked over the edge by the thing.

As Aden opens the door, it violently snaps with the sound of an explotion. Aden is hit and take 1d12 ⇒ 6 damage, and is flung into the well of dark water. Durgen and who ever is holding the rope make a strength check to keep Aden from falling down
