I agree that the trolls should definitely be the focus of our attacks since they can wade through an army with ease. If Martin is getting into melee with them, Dusk can be a good help with that, both as a flanking buddy for the hitting bonus, and the fact that I can cast Acid maw on him first to negate their fast healing.

I also have a few Acid bolts, so as long as the first shot in a barrage is acid or fire, it'll negate fast healing for the round.

And yeah, sleep amid the barbarians could be great if we're lucky, especially if followed by a fireball or other AoE effect (Helpless
A helpless character is paralyzed, held, bound, sleeping, unconscious, or otherwise completely at an opponent’s mercy. A helpless target is treated as having a Dexterity of 0 (–5 modifier))

I don't think we're going to get our army here in time. At best, NK could teleport to one of the two towns and bring three soldiers back with him per casting. It doesn't seem like that would be a great use of the spell slot.

The town with its unfinished wall might provide some tactical benefit, but I don't think it will provide much if the army can just go around it to an unfinished part of the wall. And then we're fighting in the town where the citizens who have asked for our help are in danger. Is there any tactical advantage to fighting in the town?

Here's what I propose: Colwyn, Vibenia, and any inclined henchman we have with us identify a place for us to hide and build some sort of camouflage for us. Waffles can scout and notify via telepathy when they're approaching. We can spring some of the surprises we have for them such as Marten's alchemist's bombs, a sleep spell, etc. (Elena! I'm looking at your domain spells! Confusion and charm monster could be great options!) Then NK can use dimension door to put us in an advantageous position where we can focus fire on the trolls. Maybe repeat the dimension door if we need to.

My worry here is that we're all going to sit around waiting for a brilliant plan to sprout, causing the game to grind.

Agreed. I doubt trying to stall for days to call an army us a viable solution. There's also something to be said for the fact that handling this decisively in one shot basically makes a clear case for how much better of they would be under the full protection of being an official part of the kingdom.

An ambush, with magic, bombs etc is probably the best bet, preferably away from the town to reduce collateral damage.

Even a partial wall can be great if you use it as a palisade and you put a platform up top and have archers/crossbowtroops on it. Then the archers can crouch down for cover and pop up when ready to fire. Enemies have to run around the wall and climb up the back to engage. If you have melee screeners on either side, you can have the archers shooting for as long as your melee troops can hold off the enemies.

Unfortunately since they are only an hour out, I dunno how much construction we can get done. Summoned monsters would be great for screening here.

Ultimately I think Niadroub is right, the enemy sortie is too close and we need to focus on defending the town from the foes, we just don't have the time to get reinforcements here or do anything that involves a lot of prep work.

I'd say one of each glyph spell would be very useful in taking down the trolls. The slow will be a huge protection for our melee people.

I'm travelling, and I can't move the icons on my phone or tablet on the map. I get home tomorrow afternoon, so I can move them then. In the meantime, Waffles is going to hide in some trees roughly 100 feet away from the party in the direction the army is approaching. That's probably off the map for now. NK needs to touch whatever stone is to be manipulated, so if someone can position him just south of Marten.

I'm going in for a couple of procedures on Wednesday. Today I am preparing for those procedures. These are a Colonoscopy and a Gastroendoscopy. Preparations are very unpleasant. :)

Hopefully this will find the source of my internal problems and get a solution sorted.

The procedures went well. The prep is indeed the worst part.

Nothing wrong with my stomach, a couple of minor problems in my colon which were quickly and painlessly fixed there and then. Sadly no sign of what could be causing my anemia? So more tests I guess.

I did have to stop taking the iron tablets 5 days before the procedure and it was very noticeable how much I need them. Back on them now and feeling slightly better.

I'm taking today off to recover as flushing your insides out the cameras get a clear view does throw you off. :)

I feel like it's taken us longer to deal with the human soldiers than the trolls. Action economy because there were more soldiers, I guess.

The first round with the acid and fire likely took half the hp of the trolls. The assault on the trolls was more focused and intensified. Also the slow spell heavily hampered any possible response and kept them clustered.

Ring and cloak numbers have been adjusted. The cure potions can just be kept communal for when needed I suppose. You can each grab one oif the Barkskin potions (everyone can benefit from a natural armor boost, and I don’t need it. My armor ca do that for 10 rounds per day).

If no one minds I could use the gloves of climbing and swimming.

My UMD is only at 12, so for a scroll of cure serious wounds, the DC is 23. So... not great. If others can cast the spells without a UMD check and it splits those resources around, then I'm good with that.

One each of CSW to Zelera, Vibenia, and Marten sounds good. Zelera has also claimed the restoration and one remove paralysis, and since remove paralysis is also on the paladin spell list, the final scroll should go to Marten.

How do we feel about tackling the rest of this invading force? NK doesn't have too much in the way of AoE, honestly, but he does still have his wand of lightning bolt.

Alternately, we can have someone with high charisma intimidate the army away. Perhaps use one of the survivors to tell the commander what's happened to reinforce the notion that we're not bluffing.

Aside from your brand spankin' new barkskin potion, NK has a potion of protection from arrows, and this seems like a great opportunity to use it!

Ooh! Waffles can go invisible and see if he can eavesdrop on what the enemy commanders are saying, in case that's helpful.

Honestly, we can all go, the high-charisma people can do the talking, and NK can use dimension door to get us to an advantageous position if needed.

I don't like how we keep foisting party decisions on Colwyn the player, but Colwyn the character should probably be okay with us sending Marten ahead as our spokesperson. He may even want to take part in the conversation.

That's the one downside to the structure of Kingmaker, the person taking the role of Ruler ends up bearing the burden of the decision-making in most things.
