He laughs at that, then laughs more a big belly laugh, and then a few sighs calming himself down. Then a few more snickers for good measure, he states, "I pity the fool that would try to summon me with that lamp thinking he had control over me... Something like the red spider maybe. No, yes... they would have no control over me. No but I would make them my slave or just kill them." Then he laughs some more at the thought. "Thanks I needed that!"

Sulvanii
"Oh yeah, have fun with it. We could track down any theives dens that way if needed." Then he snickers some more and adds, "Hey boys! Its not good to rob in this country... one scorching ray for you, one for you, and one for you... Oh that popped your head off..." Then he begins to laugh at the thought of it and their stunned expressions as the Genie comes out of the bottle to kill them.

So, I got a bit of bad news today, my grandfather is in the hospital. His lung keeps filling with fluid and they found a mass at the bottom. The filling of his lung isn't treatable... and we're not sure about the mass yet. But they have begun to speak about hospice care... his time is limited... So it is very likely I might vanish for a few days, if that be to help take care of him or to be there to say goodbye.
Quince Medvyed
I sorry to hear that. I have been through hospice with my mom. I will be praying for you and your family.
Cleonora Petalouda
Thank you guys... I know it's time for him... My grandfather is 103, or well will be 103 in July, and has lived a full live. But that doesn't mean this is easy... and with everything my father has had to go through in just the past year and a half alone... it worries me that he has to go through this with his father now. It doesn't seem fair and... I don't want to say goodbye yet either.

I have the Eastern Exploration Extravaganza plotted out what I think is a good team for it and what they are expected to find. GM Wolf do you want me to take that next plunge and we can keep the separate with the titles or do we want to wait till we settle the Tazlford Tree Tango
Quince Medvyed
Alright similar to the Eastern Exploration Extravaganza I plotted the rest of the exploration/hunt trips.
Forest Drake Fiasco & Gnarly Narlmarch Endevor
So waiting to see if you wan to wait and address these one at a time or just take the plunge to get caught up.
Quince Medvyed
I think doing the Eastern Exploration Extravaganza at the same time as the tzleford tango will be fine.
Great!
Quince Medvyed
So I was looking over things and noted that our Kingdom is now big enough that we are no longer a Barony but we have graduated to a Duchy. So That would mean that the Lord Commander of the Greenwatch also bears the title Duke rather than just Baron. It also makes Elizabeth the Duchess.
Quince Medvyed
Excellent! Good to know! How much further until you are recognized as a king?
We are at 43 Hexes in size. Just over halfway through Duchy stage. At 81 we cross into Kingdom level.
GM Wolf
You might ask, why haven't we seen any trolls... The answer is simple they are getting more. Krazok needed to kill a troll well before the year of down time. He killed three of them with ease, of course he didn't think it was much after the dragon. Neither did Selena. Also any rumors coming up to Krazok about trolls and he would go silence the problem. Asking that they not spread the rumors but to be wary... Thus your Troll War will be a bit more of a war than what the module points out.

Hex 32 on the Greenbelt map borders Hex N22 on the Nomen Heights map. Which means we could get to the City of Varnhold on the 2nd month. We still have unclaimed Hexes within the Greenbelt. So far the charter hasn't let us claim East of the Greenbelt boarder. We could but that might be frowned upon by Restov.
Bearik
Bearik would tell you, "Restov has plenty of their own problems and no one else is going to help Varnhold. Brevoy is actually closer to civil war again. Mostly due to the Stolenlands being claimed by us and our ties to Restov. That is why Restov and Southern Brevoy has been distancing themselves. Oh sorry I have not been keeping you appraised of diplomatic situations in our neighboring countries."

72. Page of Spell Knowledge Dispel Magic (Oracle) 9,000gp
I had the last one in mind but we already had a great opportunity to use in the Varnhold campaign and it was mostly a fluff item so. I will let one slide and think of something else.

Quince frowns, "Civil War? Well that isn't good. We have been blessed beyond reason with Restov sending us to handle things to the south they did not want to handle. Our success is an issue? How so and who feels threatened by it? Where is my kin on this? My father's house was not the highest in standing but as our star rises I am sure that my last name has political connotations."

Speaking of wishes and loose ends.
Awhile back we found the dead body of a unicorn that had its horn removed. We intended at the time to help it but then got really busy.
If Sulvanii thinks that we could bring the creature back that is certainly something we would want to do.
GM Wolf
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Many of the group forgot about the unicorn as Quince remembered it on one of his forays into the wilds, with a summoning of Sulvanii once you found the body again, he was able to use wish to bring it back. Though it was confused as it came back, as you can speak with horses it tells you some strange words: Soon to come!!! PDF not working right now!

Right now I'm just balancing things! XD

Reward: Not only does Melianse agree to release the
two charmed lumberjacks from her control, she gladly
agrees to keep an eye out along the Greenbelt’s rivers
for any trouble or rumors of danger, increasing the PCs’
national Stability by 2.

Using speak with dead spell, the dead unicorn would respond with, "purest corrupted beauty." As you cannot resurrect it until you find its horn. The body is still not touched by anything, decay is barely happening.

Ok... I am back... wow I have been busy.
Ah Ha! What have I not been doing?! We went to Spokane, did a bunch of shopping. Then in the evenings I spent a lot of time with my son, just playing and having fun! Work side, I have been slacking on grades and trying to catch up with that. I have NCCE webinars and Whole Child Virtual Summit videos to watch. I got a hair cut today. Yesterday I survived through school but by then my stomach had gotten completely rotten, like a one day flu... It could have been the food I ate... food poisoning... at least it was mild. Still on the mend from that and preparing to teach a new section of Science which does take a lot more prep than normal. Yeah I haven't had much time to post in the last two days. I switched my day around so I am back in work to do prep and with a functioning computer to easily do posts.
Quince Medvyed
Glad to see you around. Real life gets real. We understand that.
Cleonora Petalouda
Oh man,I got my first covid-19 shot and I didn't expect it to hit like this... Makes me worried about shot 2.

*He awakens from so much.*
At least that is how I feel. I am sorry and apologize for the three week absence. First off grade put a damper on everything. Next my spring break was the opposite of how I felt I would have time. It was nice being in the 90+ degree weather in Arizona with a pool nearby. I was occupied with family on the first two days as we celebrated Easter. Also these family members we haven't seen for years. The rest of the week was not as packed but I took time to just enjoy being with family. Lastly, we get back and sickness hits my wife hard and I have to step up that much more to take care of our son. We do get home but not when I was expecting and had to cram to get grades done. Then this week I got sick, likely from all the stress and late nights. I finally feel back to my normal today. Allergies are still present! Ahhhh!
I hope to get in a few posts today for all my games. Especially those still stuck in combat. I would appreciate a quick check in post to make sure all players are still around and ready to play. Included in that post you can add how you are liking the present mode of the game. I know some of the games have kinda been railroaded and if you want to get more back to the main plot of the game or whatnot I would like to know.
I hope this finds you all in good health and ready to get back to the games!
Quince Medvyed
Good to see you stirring.
Cleonora Petalouda
Agreed, but please take care of yourself. Do not rush. Getting back to 100% should be your main focus!
Cleonora Petalouda
I want it well know that the second shot of Covid vaccine sucks so much! I'm still not back to 100%!
Cleonora Petalouda
That is fine, please take care of yourself. I myself have had a hard time recently between getting my fingers smashed in a car door and my grandfather passing away... Well it is safe to say I won't likely be properly back to posting as normal till next week. So you have time and I totally understand!
Cleonora Petalouda
Okay! So we closed on our house and spent all weekend moving in, the internet should be getting turned on Wednesday and my computer desk is arriving Saturday. So with luck, and skill and maybe some more elbow grease and I'll be back to active status the beginning of next week... Oh man... This weekend was hell! XD
Cleonora Petalouda
I'm finally starting to get back around to come of my games! There is still unpacking to do but I'm going to post on some tonight and finish up with posts tomorrow!
Quince Medvyed
Good to have you back.
Apparently Quince and Cleo just won't be friends.
Cleonora Petalouda
Thank you
If you wish.
Quince Medvyed
Quince has tried.
Maybe I am misreading things but she just told him that he wasted her time and was neglecting his own duties. Honestly if that is her opinion shouldn't she leave. If she thinks he is that great a fool and a bad leader. Why bother.
He is pretty open to council and if that was her opinion it could have been raised at the start. But instead she waited till after to object. And suggest risk the lives of others instead.
In character we have been thriving as a nation with ridiculous growth. So the idea that something is being neglected seems a complaint. It has also been months since these reports of a "dragon" have been around. Also the Drake itself was not the only thing addressed on the trip.
But this is pretty much in keeping with Cleo only finding problems with any of Quince's choices.
Out of character this game thread is down time polishing off items prior to the Varnhold game starting. All of the things we are addressing are part of dealing with old leads and exploration/kingdom growth during that down time. So any of these things are 1- likely to be beneath our skill as we have outpaced the area and 2- Are expectations of dealing with a Kingmaker campaign. It feels like (again) Quince is being judged in character for what is happening out of character.
Cleonora Petalouda
No he hasn't, because they haven't done anything together. The reason she stays is because she owes Quince for aiding with the Spider. And at this point she isn't on the council yet. That isn't till book three, right now she's still just the academy Head Mistress...
And yes the nation is growing and thriving, and Cleo wants to ensure it remains that way.
I think part of the reason you're feeling that way is because you know what Quince does in character during those moments we don't have stuff played out. For example, this wasn't brought to her as a time with friends/possible friends, it was brought to her as a dragon hunt. If it had been someone, possibly Quince, stopping in and going "Hey, we got rumors of a dragon... you... maybe wanna come with us? Might be really useful if the dragon rumors are true, and maybe... have some fun downtime away from the academy?" Instead it was dragon hunt we need you. Those have two vastly different outcomes when finding out it is a drake. Because reports of a dragon and rumors of a dragon are very different. Reports as solid evidence, so when Cleo heard reports she believed Quince had made sure to follow up on whatever lead them there. I mean he is the Baron, expecting greater from him than others is... kinda expected!
It would likely start being better if the two actually had any RP scenes. As... well since the retco there isn't one.
Quince Medvyed
Yes I remember several things being rushed through... Much to the detriment...
Fair enough. I like playing things out more than I like down time. But that was a choice made by the GM so as to wrap up loose ends here before the actual role play happened in the Varnhold game thread.
No he hasn't, because they haven't done anything together. The reason she stays is because she owes Quince for aiding with the Spider. And at this point she isn't on the council yet. That isn't till book three, right now she's still just the academy Head Mistress…[/ooc]
Well we already made you the Magister for the purpose of the Kingdom Spreadsheet.
My thinking was that over the year down time. With no formal "Warden of the Scroll" that Quince who always has had his hands in education would be working closely with the concerns of the academy being that it is the largest and fastest growing. As things in the other cities started up Quince would be relying on Cleo more and that between the working together on projects and dealing with the loose ends Cleo would become vital and trusted. Thus by the time the other game started Cleo would be officially the "Warden of the Scroll." That's what I intended. But if Cleo thinks Quince is bad at his job and that all of the other people who are leaders were dumb to pick him then we shouldn't expect it goes that way. Cleo would still be the headmistress, if she wanted and we would have to deal with appointing someone else.
But the intent to build a friendship- That’s why we joked about triple dates.
Presents! He got you a wonderful spellbook that teleports to you.
Sure downtime isnt's as interesting as rp but the point of the downtime was to wrap up loose ends and give the other game a solid floor to take off from.
But you are right I was taking that they would naturally become closer over the down time.
And yes the nation is growing and thriving, and Cleo wants to ensure it remains that way.

Yeah not afraid of being held to a higher standard I guess. But I would be hard pressed to think of anything that Quince has done that Cleo has supported and absolutely nothing supported as vehemently decried problems were.
As for the hunt it self here was the OOC comment:
Forest Drake Fiasco
I figured at first this would be part of an exploration trip through the forest but the Drake's lair is just south of the Lizardfolk City in 67. So I imagine that Krazok and the lizardfolk would have a good handle on where it is. Kevros and Quince were talking about going on a hunt. So I think that this is going to be more of a target driven trip. Quince, (Elizabeth if she is down for a monster hunt), Kevros (We talked about wanting to go on a hunt), Katrina (Married to Kev, friend to Cleo), Cleo (resident scholar and Quince is still trying to get to know her and he thinks action is a great way to get to know allies), Jorne (goes where Cleo goes) & Krazok (Quince wants to get to know him better and his city is just north of the Drake lair) would be the ideal team. Treasure in the book: a ripped and broken masterwork chain shirt, a masterwork darkwood longbow,
and a tattered, bloodstained cloak of elvenkind.
Now this isn't an RP scene but it does show that the intent was more than just chasing a danger. Getting a chance to know folks. Yes we didn't RP the scene but it was a lot warmer than a summons to an asset to help with a problem.
GM Wolf
I love playing things out but sometimes it happens to get rushed. Especially for our next chapter of this campaign! It doesn't help that many of our players have gone silent but that happens.
Thus by the time the other game started Cleo would be officially the "Warden of the Scroll." That's what I intended.
Yup, also on friendly terms with all those in ruling positions. I thought we were well on that way with my NPCs, Quince, and Cleo.
We know that Cleo is a hard egg to crack. Though with Katrina... then Elizabeth... and others soon you should be able to trust and have friendships with most of the ruling council.
Now this isn't an RP scene but it does show that the intent was more than just chasing a danger. Getting a chance to know folks. Yes we didn't RP the scene but it was a lot warmer than a summons to an asset to help with a problem.
I would have to agree with Quince. Now to be honest I want us all to get along and play as a team. I think it would be best to take Quince's intentions and assume that my comments above work out. Then we move to the Varnhold game and we will circle back to the fortress and trolls once that is done.
Cleonora Petalouda
I had already assumed that by the Varnhold game they had become friends, a fact I played into during the opening meeting. That was with the thought and intentions of them becoming friend in this game! Yeah Cleo is a hard egg to crack but you gotta try cracking it first! They have had a total of four interactions now that things have been reconned. Their first meeting, which went rather well, their meeting to make her the head of the academy, the whole thing with the bracelet, and now this!
She's only been openly against his plans twice! With the bracelet and now. She did ask questions when they wanted to put her in as the head of the academy but more on the note to see if they where sure about this.
I was under the impression that the damn near nonexistent relationship between Quince and Cleo was on the list of ends to be wrapped up. Just go talk to her! She won't bite! Hell you can even start it off as him wondering why she apparently thinks he's incompetent! I'm so tired of that conversation being over here when it should be in gameplay between two characters! Unless Quince is completely fine with his perception of Cleo's opinion of him?
Quince Medvyed
I see where the disconnect is. Can't be too hard to adjust.
I was assuming with some of the time past the start of that friendship has started but I can see why it hasn't warmed yet.
Quince Medvyed
Once returned back to Elkheart. Quince settles back into the routine. During his first morning 'Doughnuts with the Duke' with Sulvanii Quince explains the news to the southwest including the trolls. "Cleo mentioned knowing some spells, I know I do as well. But what can we do for our soldiers to have an edge. Alchemist's fire is an obvious one. But I am sure you can think of something." He finishes breakfast and runs down any daily business Sulvani has and he heads toward the academy.
This feels like the time when Quince brings up one of his wishes for a flame tongue and some Deliquescent Gloves w/ Swimming & Climbing enchantment:)

Sounds good Quince.

So go ahead and RP as much or as little as you want here. We might even get to that fortress, just saying. :)
