Took Charge Through for Cinder, also added O-level spell mending & updated profile. Power attack bumped to -2/+4 this level, which makes the ragepounceroarchallenge charge even more ridiculous with a +45 static bonus. Improved crit / keen lance, here I come!

Interesting problem. Seems we can make a friend of the son OR the father here, but not both. The other will likely become an enemy. Seems clear that the father would make a better ally but I suspect we have more to do to win that group as allies. And the son's request, if sincere, seems quite honorable.

Remind me how we are doing loot in this game.

Thought loot distro was as needed, but when sold distributed to the party since we aren't apportioning the value of magic items in the loot distro. For example, Connor has been using a masterwork handaxe that he picked up from the bandit lieutenant but intends to sell it. That money should be distributed across the party, right?

That certainly sounds reasonable to me. The rapier is somewhat special since Ezekial can and will use it, especially if he needs a magic weapon. But he is better with knifes due to his archetype. Had he been able to trade it even for a smaller blade he it would have been good for him though.

I expect he will fight rapier and kukri for now. Seems less cool somehow. lol.

Totally OK with the flat trade (if he had allowed it), as long as that traded item is still party loot. Whereas sell, distribute and purchase for yourself using own funds ... part of your personal wealth.

However, trade 2 for 1 and then sell that single item and distribute later. The numbers dont come out right. Thats where I was getting confused about what we were doing.

That said, while Connor is sword and board, he isn't married to it (no feats etc) so if we need another magic weapon in the party, he could carry/use the greataxe for now. He dies have strength and power attack so he could be effective.

I'm thinking cold iron may be a need in the future. Lots of fey influence it seems.

Ezekial has cold iron and silver when needed.

I suspect we are all a little behind the equipment value curve for our level. I'd be happy to sell the rapier and and divide up the money but I worry that a magic weapon might soon be needed. If you do not have a magic weapon then I strongly recommend you keep the axe for now for the same reason.

I say you should keep it just in case, if we ever need the money we can always sell it but if we sell it and need the rapier we're out of luck.

Went ahead and got my bow turned into a +1 weapon, and sold my old shield and replaced it with a +1 reliquary darkwood buckler (so no change to AC but it weighs less and I don't have to worry about swapping my shield off or on if I'm doing melee or ranged combat).

Some thoughts - Slander is a crime or could be if we decide it is. If this guy is paid by someone else then he is a spy and that certainly is a crime. He seems close to arrestable already.

Seres would oppose using the heavy hand of the law, in any case, regardless, but especially here. If we have him dragged off, it just looks like we're trying to suppress him. If he plays his hand and fumbles it in front of the crowd, we come out ahead and the citizens are more wary of agitators in the future.

I think the real target here is not this guy, but the people. What they think is what matters. If we heavy-handedly arrest people or execute them quietly so they "disappear mysteriously," this will demoralize the populace. They'll think they can't speak or assemble freely, and it will make us look tyrannical.

We need to beat this guy at his own game - make his arguments seem foolish, inconsistent, and self-serving. We need to out-debate him!

We could arrest him and then put him on trial. At the very least he is guilty of lying, trying spread discontent, and either bribing the farmer who testified against us or threatened him. I am certainly fine gathering more information though and plan to do so.

I advise caution. This NPC is likely built to do what he does. I'd rather not leave him on the street. Even if we beat him today I bet he will be back. Eventually I think we will have to deal with him or run him off.

Do we want to make lying a crime? (I would say no on that one.)

Is the farmer testifying against us charmed, coerced, or otherwise compelled? That would be the most useful angle - if we not only can impeach that testimony, but show that this guy bribed, ensorceled, or otherwise forced this farmer to lie, that shows that nobody can trust him.

We have nothing to really arrest him for. At least no evidence of it. He may have ensorcelled that kid. That's justifiable, but no proof.

We will need to deal with him outside of a public crowd, yes.

What he is doing rises to Sedition at least. Sedition was certainly a crime in the real world. I guess we have not compiled a list of laws and crimes. :)

So I disagree. We know he is lying. We know he is inciting unrest. We have every right to arrest him and put him on trial. At trial we would have to prove he is lying. And we would do that openly so our people could observe.

Assuming we want to be a "good" kingdom, we'd have to really nail him on provable sedition, which involves him encouraging people to revolt. I feel so-so about it. And remember, the people watching this don't know that he's lying. We know, but what does it like if we just unilaterally say "He's lying, arrest him"? The onlookers don't know. From their perspective it looks like we're just covering our asses by being tyrants.

There's also the matter that what we are doing might be correct legally but still look like a s!#~show to the common people who are watching. We gotta be really careful about our presentation.

I'm also waiting on the results of my interrogation, as an Inquisitor I come with built in lie detectors. If worse comes to worse this is still a fedual age, if he's making snide insinuations Connor can challenge him to a duel to satisfy his honor. That or if it comes up that he's charmed the kid Larisa can ping him on offending Erastil's laws and run him out of town. Divine Mandate and all that. We should probably start thinking more Game of Thrones about this and less Law and Order.

Also have we taken the time to establish a rule of law? We probably need to write a legal code and maybe a list of rights for our subjects.

@Seres, that's actually a really good idea. And if, under a charm, he does confess to doing something shady like taking money from a foreign power to slander us, then when the charm wears off, it doesn't matter - he's already incriminated himself.

Well this has been a pile of fun, also really highlights the need to put points into Diplomacy. Sorry for calling Raff out like that, maybe we can invent a new government office, Ministry of Chemical affairs? Maybe set up a mad scientist division?

Also we really need to look at recruiting some military for the inevitable bandit army.

Oh don't worry, The only option that guy left you with was calling Raff out. Not too mention that Raff doesn't even assume too have the trust of the lordship, let alone be a part of it. I mean, he's a friggen bounty hunter for goodness sake.

Though on that subject of a new government office, maybe Raff could be the cloak and dagger of the group? Dealing with things that would be rather un-lordlike for one of you to do. Just have to start investing a little more into subterfuge. Then my extracts and versatility could make me really good at that. Just a thought.

You mean Royal Enforcer? Raff's technically better doing something where his high Intelligence bonus helps... but he could do enforcer for a while just for the small Loyalty bump?

Spymaster might be good for Raff. There's a vacancy penalty (so if we don't have one, it's bad), and it runs on Intelligence, so he'd give a good bonus.

How about magister then? Is that position open? The drunk proffesor is a niech that Raff could also fill quite well.
