As a ship sails toward the ruins of Ancient Azlant, the colonists aboard will soon struggle to rise above the machinations of the unknown powers that vie for control of the remains of this once great civilization. Only time will tell if they manage to fend for themselves or become unwitting pawns in the games of others.

A heads up for all my games; I'm going to be camping from Monday to Wednesday, so I won't be able to post. I should have Internet on my phone, but posting from my phone is a real chore (even ignoring the logout issue I still have on mobile) so I will be silent for a few days. So, at this point you guys can continue this interaction or I can move us on to the next part of this little prequel adventure! For as disappointing as the base class from Ultimate Wilderness was, the rest of the book has given me some nice stuff to work with; the new exploration system in particular is quite a nice addition that I'll be using. If you all are ready to move on, just give the word and I'll do so.

Also, as you may have noticed, Derrick is taking a bit of a leave of absence for the time being. His life has been pretty hectic for a while now, so he's bowed out for a bit, likely until Christmas has passed, is my guess.

I didn't expect that we'd be spending a lot of time on a boat, but now that it's come up I think I should probably bring up a concern I have.

My particular build is an absolute nightmare against boats.

Being able to use Disable Device, Craft Trap and deploy pre-made traps, pretty much invisibly, at a range of 120 feet means I can do things like make them drop anchor, or collapse their whole mainsale, or break their helm's wheel, or turn their ship-based weaponry or their rigging into deathtraps.

Essentially, I'm reasonably certain that I could win a fight against two enemy ships by myself, and in game I don't have much of a reason not to try. Out of game, I recognize that I need to discuss this with everyone in the game.

If this scene is intend to be a chase or a plot-push, we should talk about how to keep Marcus from screwing that up. If it is supposed to be an encounter it will be a fun opportunity for Marcus to show off, but I don't want to overshadow the rest of the party. The folks that made frontliners deserve to be able to enjoy cracking a few skulls.

My number one goal is to make sure everyone is having fun. Please let me know your thoughts on this.

Male Human Brawler 8/Bard (Archeologist) 2/Slayer 5
House Rules:

So, first off, I appreciate the concern. However, I was pretty well aware that Marcus is a nightmare against ships and I was fine with that. In this case, you're about a league away; a league is a nautical mile, which while perhaps not exactly the same on Golarion is still way beyond 120 feet. Given the nature of Azlant being a lot of islands I did anticipate a lot of you guys being on boats, but when I expect ship-to-ship combat there will be things to keep Marcus from destroying encounters while not nullifying him either.

HP: 31/31, Ward HP: 2/2, Temp HP: 0, Burn: 0/6,AC 19, Fort +9, Ref +8, Will +4

Ok, great. That's all I needed to hear. Thanks.

Male Human Brawler 8/Bard (Archeologist) 2/Slayer 5
House Rules:

No problem. If, when we get to more ship-to-ship stuff, you feel like you're being sidelined too much or you still feel like you're wrecking encounters too much, just let me know. However, the stuff I vaguely have planned I think will work well enough.

HP: 31/31, Ward HP: 2/2, Temp HP: 0, Burn: 0/6,AC 19, Fort +9, Ref +8, Will +4

Sounds good to me. If something becomes an issue we can discuss it then.

HP: 31/31, Ward HP: 2/2, Temp HP: 0, Burn: 0/6,AC 19, Fort +9, Ref +8, Will +4

How hard would it be for the crew to disconnect the ship's wheel and take it with them? If that's an option they should do it. It will save me some time.

Edit: Huh. Based on my research, it's actually petty easy to remove the wheel of a sailing ship. All it requires is a strong person with a really big wrench. They're designed to be easily removed and replaced. Many ships even carried spares in cast a wheel was damaged they weren't uniform size though. Apparently you needed to have wheels made specifically for your kind of ship. There was no such thing as uniform size axles back then. It always varied from shipyard to shipyard

Here's a picture of a double-wheel on a particularly large sailing ship. This is about as big as ship's wheels possibly get, and you can see that the wheel is designed to be removed with relative ease. It's basically just a big bolt holding the wheel onto the axle.

Male Human Brawler 8/Bard (Archeologist) 2/Slayer 5
House Rules:

Yeah, you can pull the wheel off. I assume you take the spare, too?

PS: Sorry for my super inconsistent posting. The joints in my left hand are pretty screwed up, so typing is sometimes super painful for me. Basically, my ligaments are super loose and stretchy and that makes my fingers hurt. As you can guess, this isn't great for someone who's hobbies all revolve around my hands.

It's been getting better, but there's no guarantee it'll stay that way. I'm trying to be more consistent, though.

That seems like a good idea, yes. That way the ship won't be going anywhere unless they put some serious time into fixing it, but if we can reclaim it the repairs should be fast.

Hope your hand feels better soon. I have similar problems with my ankles. Alternating hot and cold packs and also using compression wraps does wonders for me. You might try it.

As someone who broke almost every finger playing basketball and whose wrists are holding together by pure chance, I hope you feel better soon.

Can't give any advice like Marcus, though, in my case I only have to try and not to be a dunce so I don't break anything again.

My sister in law has RA and uses fingertip-less compression gloves which help her a lot. Perhaps that would help?

Oh man that sucks. I hope it gets better. Marcus suggested what I would.

I have fractured, six times, and chipped, two hunks off, the bone in one of my ankles and my job is a lot of walking. Also a surgery on my right wrist, I'm right handed, and that took away about 15% mobility for life and I cannot write more than a paragraph without my wrist locking up. That is a large part of my I like PbP so much. I can type with my left if I have to.

Male Human Brawler 8/Bard (Archeologist) 2/Slayer 5
House Rules:

I might try that. Can I just buy them in a store, or do I need some sort of prescription for them?

Part of the issue is my joints have always been this way, but usually they get stiffer as you age. Mine have not, and as such a lot of my old habits now cause pain. Even writing, the way I curl my fingers around a pen hyperextends the joints which just makes the problem worse. My ankles are terrible too, I think I've sprained them a dozen times between the two. Those joints, thankfully, appear to have gotten better over time. It's likely at some point I'll have to get surgery on my fingers, though. My doctor told me to just take a bunch of Advil every time my fingers hurt, but I think I might try those gloves.

I've tried the hot and cold packs but it doesn't really seem to help, since my ligaments aren't so much swollen but just really loose. The compression may help, though. Do you know where they bought them? I'd guess I could probably find them at a drug store or something...

So, we've obviously lost Donkor. Also, Kahurangi doesn't seem to be interested in the game anymore either; he hasn't replied to my PM and hasn't posted here, either. Derrick is coming back at some point, but isn't here right now.

Since we're so early in the game, would you all prefer to just retcon them out of the game for now? I know Donkor has had some serious issues so he won't be coming back, and I don't have much hope for Kahurangi considering he hasn't spoken to me and has posted elsewhere since I sent him a message and posted here. I can keep them on as NPCs if you all want, but I think it may be easier to just adjust the story at this point.

I'm fine with either. Since we are in a chaotic scene right now they could just be "lost" during the escape. Or, since there are a bunch of NPC crew, they could fade into the background.

That would allow them to come back later if their players return
