Girvin continues to run a rag over the stein, thinking a bit. "Osgrove, Osgrove... Ah, aye. Kind of bigger fellow? Used to be a bandit hereabouts? Took me a minute, but aye, that's him. He used to come here practically every night, but then I'd heard what you said, that he was trying to sober up, the poor sot. Said somethin' about studying for guard duty, trying to reform himself, somethin' like that." He runs a hand through his beard. "Now that you mention it, I do recall seein' him here last night, although he wasn't drinkin' beer from what I recall. And seemed to be lookin' around more than starin' into his drink. I thought maybe he was lookin'for a girl, but he seemed to be quiet, just looking around, waitin' fer someone, perhaps?"

Emil, looking around, you see that the tavern is clearly seen wear in the short time it's been around, although well maintained. There isn't much evidence of disorderly conduct, at least. One thing you do note is that the boy cleaning the room keeps glancing your way, almost nervously. At first it might just be him being startruck, but as the conversation moves on, it appears to be something more.

"Osgrove," Janna states, a statement all its own. "I can double-check with Akiros but I don't doubt his desire to clean up and become something bigger than himself. I'd guess Akiros probably convinced him to clean up and join up."

Jillia notices Emil talking with the boy and leaves him to pursue that lead and continues to speak with the proprietor.

"Were there fellows that Osgrove typically spent time with? A group of friends? In particular, any that weren't present last night? Someone whom he would be waiting for?"

Franka watches Emil walk up to the kid, and assumes he has a plan. With Janna, she keeps the bartender talking. "So, did we meet with anyone that night? Talk with others, or did someone walk up to him perhaps?"

The boy looks at Emil in awe, clearly considering the Cavalier to be too important person to address him. Finally he answers, "Billy. Billy, sir."

The dwarf thinks a moment at Janna's question. "Not many recent, though he was a popular enough drunk. Didn't seem to be much of a socialite since then, though. He sorta kept to himself, watching the crowd, if you get my meanin'.

At the mention of Osgrove meeting someone, the boy glances about nervously, visibly swallowing. "The shoanti... Osgrove was looking for the Shoanti. Big man, blue face paint. Not sure why, but I overheard him saying how he... Osgrove, would keep the people safe. I thought he was just boasting or being crazy, then he ended up dead. He seemed real serious though when that barbarian showed up, moving to him and leaving shortly after the Shoanti left too. I didn't think nothing of it, but that could be important, couldn't it?

"Billy huh? Nice to meet you. Where'd ya come from huh? You come here with your folks to settle?" asks Emil conversationally, dropping down on his haunches so that he may be eye to eye with the kid. "What'd you think of the name huh? Summergold? That elf lady over there came up with it" he says with a wink before whispering "She's a Princess you know. And Princesses always come up with the best names for nice things." He chuckles. "I'd like to keep Summergold nice for her, but that man who got killed... It bothers her. So I'm trying to find out what happened so she doesn't get upset with me and starts kicking me in the butt. Princesses are allowed to do that you know. It's a law. Franka looks confused. "A shoanti? Out here? He'd stand out, I presume." She turns to girvin. "Do you know anything about that? A Shoanti fellow that's visited recently?"

The child, Billy, has a look of wonderment that probably would barely been surpassed if Erastil himself walked through the door and patted him on the head. He can barely speak for a moment, then nods, whispering quietly, I don't want your butt to get kicked...

Girvin adds, "Aye, a Shoanti, face paint and all. Couldn't forget him, as he drinks at least twice as much as some regulars. Keeps to himself though, quiet drunk. An' he was here last night, that's for sure."

Billy joins in, excited he might be able to help. "I know where you might be able to find him! I could take you to where he's been staying!"

Emil grins and winks back at the others. "Well then, I think we should go meet him. He certainly has traveled far from home; I'd like to talk to a man like that."

Turning back, he asks Billy: "You think you could show us?" he asks, half to the boy, half to the owner. "You'll be back quick as a flash. Cross my heart, Audsley will pay." And before the spymaster can retort, Emil strides out coaxing the boy to follow along.

Before he leaves, Billy looks up questioning to Girvin, and the dwarven barkeep waves him off. "Aye, go just remember to get back before evening rush. And stay safe, aye?" The boy jumps up, eagerly opening the door, positively beaming as he leads you into the unpaved street, nimbly skipping past a couple of mud puddles. As he walks along, he passes down a few sidestreets, one of which opens into an alley where bloodstains still marr the ground; the site where Osgrove was murdered. Billy pauses there, suddenly somber. "It's too bad, you know Osgrove wasn't a bad sort. He always had a copper for me, even when he wasn't drinking much." He waits only a few moments to see if the party had anything they wished to look at there, before leading on. "Come on, the barbarian lives not far from here."

Taking a few more streets, Billy stops ahead of a small house, an early construction from the the looks of it, rough wood with a red painted roof. He points at the door. "Here is where I saw him a few days ago. The Shoanti. I'm not sure how he might be mixed up in all of this, but I hope everything is alright. I don't want there to be any more people getting hurt..." He looks conflicted between desire to help you further, and not wanting to be involved deeper in such bloody matters.

The building is one story, with a single door that you can see, though there are a number of windows. It appears to be the size that could have a few different rooms.

"Nice job," Franka compliments Emil as they walk to the Shoanti's house. "Just a thing, though. Just because he's Shoanti doesn't mean he's a barbarian, as the innkeeper said. I've spent some time among Kellid tribes. They've got a pretty intricate culture, even if a bit rough around the edges."

As they approach the door, she turns to Emil again. "So, what's the plan. We just knock and see if he's in?" She takes a moment and casts a couple of spells. "You never know. Ready... Audsley, maybe you could check the back door? Make sure he doesn't bolt if he smells trouble."

"No... there are folk legends about how to detect a werewolf, but my understanding is that when they are in human form, there is no signature 'tell' that can reliably be used. It is only the act of shifting that makes it apparent. So either a magical spell is needed to determine that someone is a lycanthrope, or they must be seen in the act of transformation," says Túrante. "Since curing them takes powerful magic, the folklore is that they are usually caged until they transform, then a priest casts the spells to cure them. But any more than that is really in the realm of magical lore that is beyond my ken. Perhaps Franka knows more?" She quirks her ears up and looks to Franka for confirmation.

Emil moves to knock on the door, which probably sets an interesting precedent for a ruler, but is quite a statement. Luckily at this time of day there isn't much street traffic, otherwise it might draw more attention.

After Emil's initial knock, there is a moment of silence, and then a notable movement of a big humanoid muttering as they approach the door. The door opens a crack, and a Shoanti barbarian stares through, the blue of his facial tatoos contrasting with his red bloodshot eyes. He beligerently mutters, "Yeah? Whadya want?" It isn't clear if he recongnizes you, or if he is just naturally uncooperative.

You open the door to a small house, three "rooms" barely divided by thin walls. The "main" room holds a few crude furnishings: a trio of wooden stools with ale steins on the floor beside them. Attached there is a small kitchen area, that doesn't look like it's been cleaned in a few days, with a small woodburning fire and kettle, and a small table with chair.

In the back of the room, there is what appears to be a bedroom, though it's currently poorly visible with the Shoanti standing in front of it. He blinks his reddened eyes, muttering, "What do you want? Talk fast."

The combined efforts at diplomacy seem to get through to the man, as he slumps down a bit. "The last night... I awoke here. I do not know what came to pass, or how blood came here, but I woke up covered in it." He looks up earnestly. "This is the truth. These dreams of red... they cannot be real." He glances at his sword, which does not appear to have blood on it. "This blade is the sword of my forefathers, and it would break if it was bathed in the blood not shed in defense" he mutters resolutely.

"So the blood is in your room as well? You awoke covered in it with no memories other than vague dreams?" says Túrante, with a slight tilt of her head toward the room that the man currently occludes.

Now that the threat of escalation seems over, Franka joins the conversation. She's rather intrigued by the Shoanti - it brings back memories from her time with the Kellid. "Maybe I have an explanation, Kundal. I believe that the sword would do as you say, if it has the power of your forefathers invested in it." She paces as she's thinking. "Maybe you were with Osgrove when he was attacked? You tried to defend him and yourself, and you drove off the killer?" She's sunk in thought for a moment, but quickly comes up with more questions. "Do you remember anything from that evening? Talking with him in the bar? About something? Also," she's slightly hesitant in asking the question: "Could I maybe examine the blade? And maybe we could let Audsely look at the blood? If it's a Lycanthrope, maybe we could toss some silver powder over it and watch for a reaction? Or would you blade work for that as well, Túrante?" Realizing that she's asked enough questions for the moment, Franka suddenly shuts up.

The mention of 'no memories other than dreams' jogs a memory of your own. It's possible that if he was afflicted, that without sufficiently strong will the afflicted lycanthrope likely wouldn't recall their own actions.

Kundal relaxes slightly, and with a nod, moves away from the doorframe. In his room, besides his bed are the ruins of bloody clothing, too much blood for it to have come from the Shoanti and still allow him to live without magical healing, and you see no indications of wounds on his body now. The scraps of clothing also appear to be more torn than cut by blade or claw.

To be clear, so far, you haven't seen anything to suggest that he isn't a lycanthrope.

Franka cautiously gives the others a questioning look. "Do you think Audsley could run some tests and finds something out?" She then thinks of more questions for Kundal, but realizes she's been badgering him already.

"Maybe? I mean... We can try. Kundal, how long have you had these dreams? Is it something new? Have you considered... I don't know, talking to a priest or something? I mean, I don't know what Shoanti call their wise men, but usually here priests do have some wisdom. And if you don't trust the faiths represented here, we'll call for other faiths. Who do your people worship that we might worship? Cayden Cailean? Pharasma? Desna? All we have here are clerics or Erastil."

Kundal glances from side to side, clearly uneasy with the line of questioning, but putting his trust in the party, for now. The large Shoanti thinks for a moment, then responds tentatively. "These dreams... they have come and gone, days at a time, then leaving me in peace for weeks. I have not spoken to a servant of the gods; I have not thought it would be needed. What could a divine disciple do about dreams?"

Audsley hasn't posted for about a month, so to speak for him...
Audsley chimes in with an elaborate series of tests that could be performed and throws in an anecdote about cooking that doesn't really help matters, particularly given that the gristly scene likely hasn't helped anyone's appetite. Examining the scraps of clothing, it seems most likely that they were shredded through expansion rather than any sort of attack.

He also comes up with a thought and returns with one of the few Half-orcs that live in Summergold, who is rumored to have a strong sense of smell. the half-orc, who goes by the somewhat uncivilized name Gorbog, takes a whiff of the Shoanti, the pile of clothing, and the victim, giving his observation. "It smells funny, alright. The murdered man smells up the clothes, but there's something odd about the vic. He smells like he's got a scent of wolf on him."

"Well... Sometimes there is more to dreams than you might suspect. Uhm..." Emil looks around, looking for help. How do you tell someone that "Oh by the way, you might be a murderous werewolf."

"Actually," Franka interjects. "That might be a good idea. We might take you to see Latricia Evanore. I respect her greatly as a priest. I am not familiar with the specific customs of the Shoanti, but I gather that one would seek a shaman or a wise one when troubled by something? She is the best we have to offer, in that regard."

Wolfspirit, what kind of knowledge roll should we make to learn about curing lycantrophy, and especially how viable each course of action is given what we have to work with here in the outback?

After some conferring and wracking of the collective knowledges of lycanthropy that the party and several of the populace can come up with, the only likely cures that come to mind are the aid of a powerful cleric, or a more available, if somewhat unreliable application of the herb Wolfsbane. If administered, the Wolfsbane is known to allow the Afflicted to throw off their curse... though there isn't any readily present at this time. It's likely that a sufficient quantity could be obtained from Restov, although such an aid is more of a long term solution rather than an immediate way to deal with the potential homicidal shapeshifter you may have on your hands for the next day or so.
