"We only need one of them to guide us. Let us 'dispense justice' to the other here and now."

Male Human Paladin 3 of Cayden Cailean

Apparently these two are suffering from diminished mental capacities. They are either drunk, stupid or magically compelled to act this way. Possibly a combination of all three.

I do not believe that we can trust any information that these two would provide us with, and I am certainly not following either of them anywhere.

Unless someone has another suggestion, I propose to carry on with their judgement, here and now, so that we can get on with our other duties. I'm sure that by continuing to map the area, we will discover the location of the Stag Lord and his fellow bandits in due time.

Eadric plants his lance into the ground and retrieves a length of rope from his saddle bags while scanning the surrounding trees for a suitable branch...

Edit: Ninja'd by Torod :)

Rosencrantz
"Where are we headed?"

Guildenstern
"I am not certain I think these brigands mean to rob us of everything you own."

Rosencrantz
"Indeed not, they can not have it."

Guildenstern
"Are we alive or dead?"

Rosencrantz
"Why do you ask such things, we are dead most certainly!"

Guildenstern
"I shall miss you brother."

Rosencrantz
"And I you little sister."

Both men tear up and blubber upon each other.....

The kobolds watch uncertain about the whole thing......

Guildenstern
"I am Rosencrantz. If you kill my sister I shall not help you!"

"Let's just kill them. We can probably track them back to their base and don't really need either of them alive anyway."

"They seem half-mad", Ellaria says.

Male Human Paladin 3 of Cayden Cailean

Eadric finds a suitable branch and throws the length of rope up and over. He secures one end to his saddle and ties a noose in the other...

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

Rosencrantz
"Which route shall we take to get back to the castle?"

Guildenstern
"Why not go by Nettles Crossing?"

Rosencrantz
"That way is forbidden!"

Guildenstern
"That is why wes should go."

Rosencrantz
"Agreed!"

Both
"Sir, pardon me....

We are headed back to the fort... Directions to the Fort!

Male Human Paladin 3 of Cayden Cailean

I take it we are somewhere close to the radish patch currently?

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

Oh yes!

I assume you are going to let them have last words before you string them up...;)

Male Human Paladin 3 of Cayden Cailean

I think they have spoken enough already. ;)

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

"One hope how cruel can you not let us be hanged together!"

"How truely terrible you are for one of us to have to watch the other die."

"The most horrible his name we shall tell, pardons sir what is your name?"

Half Elf Hunter/Rogue 5/1| HP 61/61| AC 18 (20) T 12 FF 16 (18)| Fo +6 Re +8 Wi +4| Init +3| Percep +16| Spells: Lvl 2: 2/3; Lvl 1: 5/5

"Kill them already"

Ellaria looks at Eadric, frustrated. "Funny, I actually thought we would judge them instead of deciding to kill them without a trial. Seems like you have already decided what the verdict would be", she says, pointing out the dangling rope tied to Eadric's horse.

Male Human Paladin 3 of Cayden Cailean

Eadric looks to Torod and then to Ellaria. After a long moment... Eadric unties the rope from his saddle and drops the loose end to the ground.

In a firm tone, but with a hint at weariness in his voice, he says, These prisoners belong to Ellaria by right of defeating them in combat. They are hers to judge... and to deal with...

He gathers up his reigns and rides past Ellaria towards the open plains, remarking as he passes, I wash my hands of them... I will wait over yonder for you to conclude your business with them. I shall then continue on my duties of mapping and clearing the area of bandits and other threats...

He turns and adds one last remark as he moves off, If I see these men again in the Greenbelt, with weapons upon their person, I shall ride them down without a second thought...

Eadric directs his horse 200' to the south east and sits waiting upon his steed...

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

Guildenstern
"By your grace you have saved us great lady!"

Rosencrantz
"Indeed! Where is your foot so that you may stand upon my head that I am yours to command!"

Guildenstern
"Nay fool she shall be mine own leige and not yours!."

The arguing escalates as the bound men grab sticks from the ground and begin to fight each other for the honor of service to Ellaria....

Interfere magically or physically

Spoiler:

You stop the men in their fighting for a bit

Do not interfere

Spoiler:

The men brain each other with their clubs! Each striking the other on the temple at the same moment!

Male Human Paladin 3 of Cayden Cailean

Eadric, of course, most definitely does not interfere...

Aren't the men still tied up?

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

Hands tied, yep
Feet tied, yep

Fun to watch though ;)

Half Elf Hunter/Rogue 5/1| HP 61/61| AC 18 (20) T 12 FF 16 (18)| Fo +6 Re +8 Wi +4| Init +3| Percep +16| Spells: Lvl 2: 2/3; Lvl 1: 5/5

"Huh! What? So this is how it works now? Someone tries to kill us and we turn around and play nice with them?" Torod watches incredulously as Eadric rides off a bit. After a few moments, he silently walks his horse near to Eadric.

*resists the urge to set fire to one and see if the other burns*

The kobolds stand on top of their wagon two of them hold a moon radish in their hands, suddenly they hit each other in the head and pretend to have slain each other fall on top of the wagon.

They then all three laugh heartily and continue on.

Male Human Paladin 3 of Cayden Cailean

As Torod approaches, Eadric glances at him momentarily, before returning his gaze to the south. He eventually remarks, This is not how it will "work now" from now on, but my hands are tied here. She defeated those men in combat and she is now responsible for them. If you wish to petition a grievance, I suggest you make your concerns known to Ellaria. Demand that justice be done as a wronged party...

"For once, Eadric, that sounds like a decent solution. For one, I will not have the blood of unarmed men on my hands. Even more so if they seem to be insane. The best option is to bring them back to Oleg, on condition they repent and vow to never take up arms again as brigands".

Turning to the bandits: "You two tried to attack us and rob our possesions, and for that you could have paid with your lives. Have you anything to say about it? Will you denounce your evil ways and repent?"

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

The men having brain bashed each other lie dead upon the plain.

Once the men are buried, and a marker erercted with there names indicating
Guildenstern and Rosecrantz are dead.

You decide perhaps they at least told you were to find passage across the river and the location of the Staglord's fort!

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

Following the river you soon find the area the men called Nettles’ Crossing. A soggy, abandoned remnant. A thick, sagging rope still hangs across the river, all that remains of the bridge that once spanned it.

A sign post at either end of the ruined bridge reads

Spoiler:
“Nettles’ Crossing—5 coppers—ring bell for service.”

A rusty bell hangs by each sign. On the south bank of the river, the crumbled remains of a burnt-down wooden building are slowly being overgrown by encroaching vegetation.

"Anyone up for a swim?"

Male Human Paladin 3 of Cayden Cailean

*sigh*

Eadric gazes across the river and at the destroyed crossing. This is the crossing the bandits claimed they were using to travel to and from the Staglord's fort? Seems highly doubtful...

Eadric leans over in his saddle and remarks to Torod, Why don't you go and test the water and see how cold it is? Eadric adds a smile and a wink.

Half Elf Hunter/Rogue 5/1| HP 61/61| AC 18 (20) T 12 FF 16 (18)| Fo +6 Re +8 Wi +4| Init +3| Percep +16| Spells: Lvl 2: 2/3; Lvl 1: 5/5

Torod crosses the river. He uses whatever is still left of the ferry's workings to help him or he'll swim if there's nothing of substance left.

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

As Torod tests the waters a rotting body climbs from the rubble
downstream and makes its inexorable way across the river’s surface,
walking over the water towards you!.....

The obviously long-dead man, flesh putrescent and dripping ranseur clutched in his hands.
Creature!

The creature calls out to you in an eerie, soggy voice: “You are not
my tormentors. Throw the Stag Lord’s body into the river that I may look upon his death, or join me instead.”

Half Elf Hunter/Rogue 5/1| HP 61/61| AC 18 (20) T 12 FF 16 (18)| Fo +6 Re +8 Wi +4| Init +3| Percep +16| Spells: Lvl 2: 2/3; Lvl 1: 5/5

"We are the Wardens and we hunt the Stag Lord to bring peace to this land. To get to him we need to cross this river." Torod responds. "Who are you and why do you seek his demise?"

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

As Torod speaks with the creature it is about 30 feet away you get a whiff of a horrible stench...

Fortitude save DC 16 for everyone, sickened for 1 minute!

"Bring forth the body of the staglord and throw him into the river, I am David Nettles."

The creature then sinks into the water to wait for the staglords body.

Male Human Paladin 3 of Cayden Cailean

Eadric arches an eyebrow. Interesting...

Fortitude save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Catching wind of the foul creature, Eadric wrinkles up his nose but suffers no ill effects.

Does it look safe to ford here Torod? Or should we find another way across?

Half Elf Hunter/Rogue 5/1| HP 61/61| AC 18 (20) T 12 FF 16 (18)| Fo +6 Re +8 Wi +4| Init +3| Percep +16| Spells: Lvl 2: 2/3; Lvl 1: 5/5

Fort 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Torod covers his mouth with his hand, stifling the urge to vomit.
"I think we have leave to cross here, but it comes with a price." Torod crosses the river.

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

The remanants of the bridge are enough for you to cross as long as you are careful....

As you explore the area beyond Nettle's Crossing you find little in the area of grasslands that needs your attention you pass another river crossing and mark it on your map, before continuing on towards the StagLords fort. New map!

From across the river you get your first look at the Fort..... Fort

Male Human Paladin 3 of Cayden Cailean

Surly there is another ford across the river... I doubt the bandits have been using this crossing given its current state of disrepair... not to mention the obvious animosity of this creature for the Stag Lord...

...But if you wish to attempt to cross here I will follow...

Edit: Ninja'd

Male Human Paladin 3 of Cayden Cailean

Eadric shifts in his saddle as he takes in the sight of the fort. After a few moments of contemplation he turns to the others and asks, Well now, how do we wish to proceed?

It would be nice to hear from everyone on this...

Half Elf Hunter/Rogue 5/1| HP 61/61| AC 18 (20) T 12 FF 16 (18)| Fo +6 Re +8 Wi +4| Init +3| Percep +16| Spells: Lvl 2: 2/3; Lvl 1: 5/5

I say we leave, get at least two more levels, then come back and own this place.

"The spirit is only mad at the Stag Lord, not us. We're perfectly safe crossing here." Torod responds.
At the fort, he says "Getting in is going to be the problem. Maybe we could pose as bandits or better yet, merchants. That place has to have some needs it can't fill with banditry. We could go back to Olegs and see about getting a cart or at least a mule and some supplies. Then come back here and talk our way through the doors."

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

It would be nice te hear from everyone......

I agree with Torod. I don't think we're strong enough for this. If there were more of us, then I'd consider it.

Half Elf Hunter/Rogue 5/1| HP 61/61| AC 18 (20) T 12 FF 16 (18)| Fo +6 Re +8 Wi +4| Init +3| Percep +16| Spells: Lvl 2: 2/3; Lvl 1: 5/5

"We could ask some of our friends to join us in this siege. Kesten and his guys might like to get some action. The prisoners might have some useful information too. I don't know why we didn't think to ask them in the first place. We could even see if the kobolds will help."

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

There is another strip of land at the bottom of the forest in your charter, and some bottles of liquor that were taken from the thorn river camp.....

We could go to this other strip at the bottom, or use the booze to somehow get some of the bandits in the fort drunk before our attack.

Male Human Paladin 3 of Cayden Cailean

Eadric listens to everyone's ideas while staring at the fort in the distance. After a lengthy pause he adds to the discussion. Getting in will indeed be a problem. Looking at each of his comrades in arms, he continues, We look nothing like bandits nor merchants. I dare say merchants give this place a wide berth given those inside aren't want to pay for goods. And with the possible exception of Ellaria, none of us are especially gifted in deception or disguise. We know next to nothing about the fort. Its layout, defenses etc. or its inhabitants. Walking in there without preparations would be extreme folly.

Scratching his chin thoughtfully Eadric continues, We could attempt to draw them out, or, as Torod has suggested we could enlist aid for an assault. It might be possible to enlist Kesten and his men or even the kobolds. Maybe even both. If not, and if we do decide to bluff our way inside, then I suggest that we spend some of our extra coin and Oleg's credit on procuring a magical means of disguising ourselves. At least 3 elixirs to alter our appearances, with the fourth of us posing as a captured prisoner. Either Ellaria, or Obi I would suppose. Some other advantages could also be purchased.

I think it best that we finish our mapping duties before returning to Oleg's to make plans and preparations for our assault upon the Staglord. What say you all? Does that seem prudent?

I'm not sure there are any prisoners left Torod... I seem to recall an attack upon Oleg's that killed all the prisoners save for Ula. And our latest captives brained each other to death before Ellaria could question them fully.

I think that disguising ourselves as bandits looking to join the Staglord, bringing a case of liquor and a woman (ie Ellari) as tribute might get us in the gate... but that would be only the start of it. :)

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

As Eadric's words sink in you each ponder the task that was orginally assigned. To clear the wildlands.

It occurs to you suddenly how close you are to doing just that....

Squares to be explored

You suddenly hear Imiria's voice...."Hello Hello Eadric is that you?"

Yes Imiria, it is me. Where are you? Eadric looks around trying to spot the child.

Perception check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Unless what Imiria has to say changes things, Eadirc suggests mapping the remaining hexes and then returning to Oleg's to plan the assault on the Staglord's fort.

You hear nothing else......The spell apparently needs work.....

Nothing Imiria has said changes things... therefor Eadric's suggested action still stands. Just waiting for confirmation of the other's wishes...

As you explore the hex above the staglord’s fort, Edge 1
You come across….

A dense patch of rare raspberry-like berries growing in a long, thin valley between two low hills here. Much of the thorny thicket is draped in the white gossamer silk of spider webs. The best of the
