Huh, neat. Johydee could basically pass as Vecna's Good Twin. She works even better as a counter to Norgorber.
On of the few things about Golarion that makes me sad is the lack of a good or even neutral trickster-type god.
So I think boosting the circlet for Intelligence + a wand of Aram Zey's Focus (or trapfinder's focus, as the d20PFRD site calls the non-intellectual property version, which might be best for Greyhawk as well) plus maybe a few skill boosters like googles of minute seeing will make do to give us semi-trapbusting abilities. If you want to have Astraden start dumping her skills into Perception, you can- given her Wisdom, she'd be better at it than Carina or myself- but you shouldn't worry about it if you had other uses for those skill points.
As far as the cost, I don't mind spending the gold myself. This isn't quite the same level of 'party need' as buying you diamond dust, and 3,000 gp is pretty minimal.
Anyway, all a moot point until Farrukh officially leaves the party. It would probably be tacky to go buying all this stuff while he's still here:
"Hey, why are you guys spending gold on stuff I can already do way better?"
"Ah, no reason. Just be a shame if something... happened to you, wouldn't it?"

There's Sun Wukong at CN, though he edges veeeeery close to the evil side of things with his dickitry.

Just a quick point of order on Sense Motive, people often forget its first listed use.
Hunch: This use of the skill involves making a gut assessment of the social situation. You can get the feeling from another’s behavior that something is wrong, such as when you’re talking to an impostor. Alternatively, you can get the feeling that someone is trustworthy.
And it's a DC 20 check, flat.
So yeah, using Sense Motive to see if a guy seems trustworthy or likely to betray you is a perfectly valid use.

Sure, 100 gold sounds fine. Bear in mind, it is a rich people establishment. Like, high-to-mid-level-adventurer-rich.
For the record, Toris is meant to be less the "annoying gnome" stereotype and more the "annoying noble" stereotype. But I know that gnomish representation in this AP has been somewhat sketchy at best. :P

@Tanith: The Perfomance Combat rules might be applicable here.
The gist of it is your Charisma + BaB is the base check (and you can also add your ranks in Perform [Comedy, Act, or Dance]) to improve the attitude of the crowd.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
Yeah, that works but I still don't feel like it's the best fit.
With a few exceptions, most modern athletes don't have anything approaching charisma but they still manage to draw crowds and inspire fans.

I'm moving over the next couple days so my posting may be a bit spotty. I've have my phone but I don't know that I'll have a ton of time to check on PBPs. Please NPC me as necessary.
Gark the Goblin |
Probably time I also mentioned, I've been approved to live in Sweden and will be moving this June. And I'm currently working 45-50 hours a week . . . and am going to be hosting my girlfriend from the 9th to the 23rd. So, the length and quality of my posts will continue to be subpar for several more weeks.

Hah. Just now rereading on the arena betting/kobold king stuff and caught this bit from Eben:
After the dancing and explosions (Eben sniffs a bit derisively at the spectacle. "Illusions should be subtle," he critiques to anyone who cares to listen) he rejoins with the rest of the group.
...and then a few days later he's making a 50-foot illusion of the ghost of Raknian's murdered lover appear in front of thousands of people. Hypocrite bard!

Hey y'all, I'm finally completing my move to Sweden. I'm going to be in transit from about 5 pm PDT Monday until about noon CEST Wednesday (that's like 3 am PDT Wednesday). I'll have internet access now and again but if you need something from Astraden, assume she does it (and post saying so). Dragoncat can run Zalamandra if he wants.

Nice. Have fun living in the EU. It's quite nice in my experience.

Interesting Errata doc for Path of War just got dropped.
Most relevant to us I think are the clarification on Counters:
“If a counter is compared to an attack roll, then
it is initiated after the attack roll is made and the result
is revealed but before damage is rolled. A counter that
replaces a saving throw or other roll is used before the roll in question, and cannot be used retroactively. Other counters may have specific triggers (or not have triggers at all), as noted in their descriptions.”
Which I think is pretty much how we've been doing it.
Maneuver Prerequisites is also interesting, and opens up some new options for me in taking maneuvers.
“A maneuver counts towards its own
prerequisites; for example, if a character learned a
Golden Lion maneuver with a prerequisite of “1 Golden
Lion maneuver,” they would still retain that maneuver
even if they exchanged all their other Golden Lion
maneuvers for maneuvers of other disciplines.”
(I've been hanging onto some Maneuvers solely as prerequisites for ones I have)
retraining:
Initiators can retrain their known
maneuvers and stances; this retraining takes 2 days
per level of the new maneuver and requires a trainer
who can initiate the desired maneuver or enter the
desired stance. The new maneuver or stance must be
part of the initiator’s available disciplines for the class,
and must be of an equal or lower level to the maneuver
or stance it replaces. Note that this is unrelated to the
ability of initiators to swap maneuvers for higher-level
ones at certain initiator levels; that swap represents the
initiator’s evolving style of combat, does not require a
trainer, cannot replace stances, and can happen only
once at a given level.

Y'know, I was feeling awkward watching that Groucho Marx video, 'cause Groucho was being really shitty to the lady contestants, but that old spinster at the end just f*+@ing schooled him. She was having none of it, and you could tell he was a bit peeved. Groucho's lesson for the day: Don't f&*$ with spinsters-by-choice.

I'm off on vacation later this morning without a PC. I most likely won't be posting anything significant until I get back next monday.

I'm home, but exhausted after many days of 100+ degree heat, seeing sights with a small toddler in tow. I'll be catching up and starting to post tomorrow.

Sorry about the late notice.
I'm traveling for work through the rest of the month. I'll have my phone but I don't expect to have a lot of time to post. Please don't wait on me and feel free to NPC me as necessary.

Well, we agreed to read spoilers with Knowledge/Perception check info if the character who made the check didn't explicitly conceal that info, but that's pretty different from following the actions of the other half of the party while the screens are still split. If you only stop reading spoilers when KC explicitly says not to, what's the point of putting situations like the ones we're in now in spoilers?
