The next room is bare of any furnishings. However, the eastern wall depicts a fresco of a tall, redheaded woman with a ranseur standing over a short, hunch-backed man - the ranseur is impaled in the man's belly, and his twisted demonic hands clutch at the shaft as black smoke wafts up from his face and wounds.
Several of you feel a light breeze gently blowing in from the south although there is no window or opening.

"Dom, allow me to heal you further. We need your skills my friend."
Drazhak lays his hand on the warrior's shoulder and casts a spell.

He then ties his battleaxe to his pack and loads his light crossbow. "A change of tactics for me, until I am stronger."

Gelbor heads to the sound and checks for any hidden door.

Domingo can feel the deep ache of his muscles recede and his torn abdomen is much less painful.
thanks Draz, I feel much better. Let us hope we don't find any more of those large rats.

Kennos you have no idea who is depicted in the painting. Could be someone you're not aware of or just creations of the artist's imagination. Either way its exceptional in its detail and use of colour.

"Well it could be Alaznist the statue from the corridor further back we found she was holding a ranseur also, but i'm not hundred percent this picture us her".
Davos ponders a bit and snaps his finger
"Oh one thing I have failed to mention about Alaznist before also she is the runelord of Wrath so if we find the shard down here it could be more dangerous that the one you picked up Dom".

Drazhak frowns as he examines the wall. "Something is wrong here. This is no wall gentlemen. Convincing as it is, I know stonework and this is not it. This is some kind of illusion. A very good one. Let me try something. Ready yourselves, just in case."
He removes a sling bullet from a pouch and throws it at the wall.

Drazhak turns to the others. "See. The bullet passed through. That is no wall. Now let's see what is beyond it."
Drazhak unloads his crossbow and slings it over his shoulder, then draws his battleaxe again and grasps his holy symbol ad shield in his other. He calls on the power of Abadar to aid him then leans forward and quickly ducks his head through the wall and back to get a glimpse of what is beyond.

Drazhak feel an almost overwhelming sense of vertigo as he leans through the illusion and finds himself gazing down the shaft you discovered earlier.
The wooden platform you crossed is about fifty feet above while your small skiff bobbing on the tide in the dock some hundred feet below. The other walls of the shaft appear to be made of the same shaped blocks of ancient stone.
Drazhak Grimbold
You watch as the Dwarf's head seems to disappear through the wall for a second. The wall remains there, seeming as solid as ever though.
Amazing, a cunning device indeed He thinks as he gazes down, then steps back away from the false wall.
"Wisdom rules the day!"He says with a smile. "Had we just stepped through, we would find ourselves falling to our doom a hundred feet below. This illusion seems to be no more than a devious trick to entice the foolhardy into stepping through only to fall down that shaft to their death."
"Well, it seems we have secured this level. Shall we continue down to the next?"
Davos Bixby
Davos is making a scribble of the picture in his notepad
"Yes of course lets move on doesn't seem to be anything more to this room. Nice find there Draz dread to think what could have happened if one of us walked through"
Gelbor Halus
Gelbor scratches his head, and puts on an awkward smile.
"Yah... good thing someone wasn't just going to walk through the wall that wouldn't have been very smart.." He then looks away from the wall.
"Yes let's keep moving we're making good time now."

Don Domingo Delagroza
Domingo looks at the illusory wall and passes his hand through it.
most impressive, it is so life like. do you think this has always been here or have these tower girls put it here? If they have it means they have some pretty powerful magics to call on.
What do you think Davos?
Kennos Slynt
Kennos think for a moment then turns to the others
perhaps what we are looking for is behind a false wall, because the tower girls were chipping away at the walls down stairs maybe looking for a false one

Gelbor cautiously leads the party down the set of stairs they discovered earlier.
They open into a long corridor with a door at the end. The metal door looks original in terms of design but shows no sign of corrosion or age.
Beyond the door is a large room supported by several pillars.
A massive pair of double doors dominates the western wall of this spearheaded shaped chamber. These doors are made of a silvery metal decorated with images of burning eyes that look inward toward two sets of runes carved onto the face of each door. The walls bear the remains of complex mosaics that once covered much of them, but which has crumbled and collapsed in heaps of covered tiles around the edges of the room.
Several other doors lead off from this chamber.
You notice a large pool of blood in the centre of the room and then clear drag marks leading to the northern door.
As you are taking in your new surroundings, one of the eastern doors opens. A woman steps out, a sheet of parchment in her hand. She is wearing studded leather armor and a long scarf around her neck. She is muttering something to herself when she looks up and sees you all.
With a snarl she growls;
That stupid b@~#% was right, they couldn't handle a bunch of bottom-dwelling treasure hunters after all!
In an instant she changes form. Limbs elongating and becoming denser with muscle. Her face lengthens into a whiskered muzzle and her eyes become beady black dots.
The wererat hisses and several large rats scurry out of the debris to join her.

The rats are unconscious so you definitely hit. In fact you could coup De Grace it and score an automatic crit. The wererat is stunned and blind but not helpless so you will have a host of bonuses next round.

Round 1 Summary
The rats swarm out to nip at the ankles of the Heroes. For the most part they cannot penetrate the armour but one does manage to pinch at Gelbor who, in return, skewers it with his blade.
Davos moves besides his comrades and his riotous cascade of colour completely disables the rats and the wererat staggers, completely disorientated.

Domingo slices into the wererat with his silver blade and Drazhak mashes one of the rats beneath his axe.

Round 2 – Summary
The wererat stumbles blindly around, cursing vehemently at the party. Davos manages to land his ray of frost but Drazhak’s dagger fails to penetrate the double protection of her armour and naturally thick hide. Domingo on the other hand executes the solenge and his blade finds a home not quite where he aimed it but just beneath the collar bone of the wererat.
Kennos does his best to rally the troops but himself stumbles in his eagerness to dispatch the unconscious rat, stumbling slightly and managing only to thrust his blade into the cold stone floor.
Gelbor slips and slides his way past the rats and slashes out at one, not quite killing it, but leaving it a limping, bloody mess.
