Looks like we both had the same idea!

Basil NaN |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Oh, pity. You had the chance to be all noble Paladin, go defensive and watch him die from his own efforts. But you crunch him -_- Murderer! :D

DM Nex |

The final orc falls to a fist in the face. Collapsing down. Things go quiet among the piles of scrap.
Scrapworth is now 2
You heal up, and prepare to continue on. The cart now is hitched to a dead horse. The balista is still attached to it. Do you plan on going on without the cart? Or trying to hitch it to something else?
-- Either way --
You continue north to the edge of Scrapwall. Built into the wall you can see a building ramshackled out of wood and bits of metal, and any other material found in the area. From here you can see 2 Orcs milling about out front the front door. They seem to be guarding the entrance. Though they seem to be carrying the same type of equipment as the others you just dealt with.
They seem to be watching out for people, but don't take notice of you just yet. You are still 200 feet away.
This seems to be what was called the "Hawk Palace"
How do you wish to approach?

Gauntlet the Eidolon |

Throw the scrap on the wagon? Can we summon another horse Thawm? Otherwise Gauntlet/Keldor will attempt to pull or push the wagon for now I guess. How do we want to approach the orcs? Any way we can get them distracted from the door?

Basil NaN |

"I suggest we approach them. Tell them that one of their Patrols has met a gruelsome fate. Add that we are here because of Hellions plans and will only discuss details regarding their missing patrol with their leader, Birdfood.", Basil swiftly suggests to the others while they approach, long before coming into earshot of the guards.

Thawm Uhturj |

we had 8 hours of horse since the morning when we rode towards town. So we should have a few more hours, I think xD
Thawm goes back to get the conjured horse to hitch up the wagon to until a more permanent solution can be found.
---outside Birdfood's lair---
"I dunno. I think we might want to just open fire and not stop shooting."
Then she sighs and turns to Keldor "But you'd like to have a chat first, wouldn't you?"
Thawm stops the cart, hops down, and starts unhitching the magically conjured horse.

Basil NaN |

Basil raises an eyebrow, then responds: "I did intend to open fire and only stop once hostiles are pacified. But requesting Birdfeed gives us target identification and prevents him from fleeing. Additionally, some of his minions may opt to surrender and swap allegiance do the former leader of the Steel Hawks - minions we may have to slaughter if not going for the throat, in a figurative way of saying."

Gauntlet the Eidolon |

Keldor nods at Thawm and waves Gauntlet's hand at the entrance, his voice not quite so 'echoing' when he whispers.
"I'm all in favor of talking...and drawing out the leader sounds smart. Care to do the talking since it was your idea Basil?"
The golem-like face of the eidolon makes a ghost of a smile, the best he can do, in an effort to prove he's kidding.
"Shall we continue then? Stay behind me. Oh...What about Ury? Leave her here to guard the cart if she's willing?"

Thawm Uhturj |

"We could just knock on the door and guards repeatedly for four minutes straight from two hundred feet away. You know, just to see if anyone comes out. It'll be great."

Gauntlet the Eidolon |

"That's mostly a waste of Ammo, isn't it?"

Basil NaN |

"Not if it is magically replenished. Alas, it may simply prompt them to retaliate in a fitting manner - by making someone invisible if they have the means, and assail our position. Just one example - but by bombarding them, we effectively give up Initiative and wait for their move - which tactically is undesirable since it provides them options and our understanding of their capabilities is not sufficient to predict their reaction."

Gauntlet the Eidolon |

Nodding, Keldor/Gauntlet agrees.
"Got it. In other words...we talk to them."
He then turns and gets ready to approach the door and the guards.

Thawm Uhturj |

"Fine. I'll wait by our sack of ammunition and get ready to cast that replenishing spell when things go south."
Thawm leads the now unharnessed horse behind the cart.

Gauntlet the Eidolon |

Whether the others follow or not...Keldor will simply paraphrase what Basil suggested.
"One of your orc Patrols has met a gruesome fate. We are here because of the Hellions' plans, and we will only discuss the details regarding their missing patrol with their leader, Birdfood. Please bring him here."
Diplomacy(Unskilled): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

DM Nex |

The orcs look at eachother "Waaa? What patrols? Why are you talking about the Hellion demon?"
The other orc seems to correct the first "No! I think you mean Devil. Yeah its a devil."
The first again, "Whatever it is.. I have no idea what you are talking about. You want to talk to Birdfood about stuff? I can bring you to him.. He doesn't come out here"

Gauntlet the Eidolon |

Keldor waves his friends over.
"If that is allowed, then we would all like to talk to him."

Thawm Uhturj |

Thawm looks back and forth between the ballista, Basil, and the entryway wearily.
"What was your name? Ury? Think you can watch the cart?" She says, before she starts to walk over.
just double checked, the only thing we'd leave behind that's worth something is the ballista and its ammo xD
Oh, and Ury's stuff, haha.
@Basil: IDK if you're keeping track separately, but there's still the grenades. And when you ID stuff you know essentially how they work, so there's that too ^^

DM Nex |

The Orc responds "Fine.." and turns to go in, but another orc comes out.
"Uhh. We heard you inside... Birdfood is coming out here. So you where wrong" he walks out the gate.
The first orc turns to you "I was wrong"
A few seconds later a strange man, hair pulled back in tight dread like rows. Seems like more of a byproduct of grease and no showers than a desired look. On one harm is a hawk, perched with strong talons on his leather gauntlet.
But the most noticable feature is the fact that he has no lips. It looks as if his has cut off his lips. Only his teeth and gums are showing. With a slight lisp, but more than seems normal for missing lips.
"You ish to talk? Lease hand ovr your neatons here. Then ne can go into the throne roon to talk" He then turns around to leave.
He will walk back into building unless you wish to start initiative

Thawm Uhturj |

If Thawm is within 140' already, she'll start initiative, muahahhaha.
Otherwise, I guess not?

Gauntlet the Eidolon |

Keldor will look back at the others for direction, then turns back to the retreating man.
"We cannot give up our weapons. In such a place as this that would be tantamount to suicide I fear. May I offer a compromise? Talk to us here at your door. Bring forth your guards as needed, but we MUST speak with you. If you do not, then you leave us little choice but to engage Hellion directly, as soon as possible. We would prefer to speak to you first, as befits your station here."
Using 'Detect Evil' on Birdfood and the orc guards.
Diplomacy(Unskilled): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

DM Nex |

I will say Thawm, you are as close as you want to be. You have had time to move. Basil, not sure where she is relative to the cart vs the gate
They flare up as Evil.
Birdfood's lispy voice as he turns chimes in "HA! Take on Hellion. Sure. Go for it. My station is fine. Please leave your weapons and magical items at the gate and you will be allowed in" he has started to move into the building, through an open gate.
He does seem as hostile as before, but he doesn't seem to care about what you are asking about.

Gauntlet the Eidolon |

Keldor waves at the man and tries to get his attention again.
"We were asked to kill you! Does that change things? Yet here we are...talking. Not trying to kill you. All we are asking for is for 5 minutes of your time. Do you want to understand what is going on or not? Right here. Now. Can you afford to ignore us and then just wait and see what's coming for you? I'm guessing you won't see it coming."
Diplomacy(Unskilled): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Come on ladies...A little help here? Anything?

Thawm Uhturj |

I ask because we'd stop around 100~200 feet from the building, and Thawm would've starting moving just after the guards went to get Birdfood xD
But since you say so... let's say Thawm got in one move action and started at one range increment of the ballista...
oooh, it's only got a 120' range, gwahahha.
So, 90' away ^^
Perception take 10: 10 + 3 = 13 vs DC 0+12 to hear the details of the conversation?

Apologies, I thought I had posted. @Attacks - difficulty with that may be the initial distance - 100 feet or so. Most thrown elements will be 50 feet or less(with 10 feet increment and 5 max increments).
Basil jumps from the Cart, rushing towards Birdfood in a straight line while shouting in the direction of the Orcs: "Nobody except those with affiliation to the Smilers such as Bird Food need to go down. A lot of you are former Steel Hawks - if you swapped your allegiance once to new management to save your sorry hides, you certainly can see the appeal of saving your life in the same way once more."
Since I am doing a run action(ideally ending next to Birdie - need to check R20 tomorrow - otherwise a double move in his direction), I can't to a diplomacy check(which would take a minute anyway and is normally not an option during initiative rounds) - but it's still worth trying to see if one or two of the guards may stall their action rather than come to their leaders aid...

What do I roll to affix a Grenade to Birdfood somehow? Like not necessarily force-feed it to him, but slip it into some pocket or a bag/quiver or a hole in the armor/clothing?
Not looking for a way to do extra damage, but to make sure he gets hit. If he's still blinded he won't be able to 'see it coming'...
Like, I could simply throw it next to him and hope the best - but I've been wracking my brain trying to find a more useful solution. I am aware that I will be unable to escape the blast area if I move up and attach it to him. I even considered options like activating the grenade, then moving and dropping it, but in that cast I'd need a standard action to ready and another standard to activate the grenade. And I have to throw it now, as in, I can't hold off on throwing until shortly before it explodes, because by definition it goes off on the next init count...so readying or delaying won't help, nor will I have a chance to throw it next turn before it goes off. Grenades are inconvenient. :)

DM Nex |

Yeah the rules for them arn't great. It is pathfinder after all. As for getting it on her person. I would say Sleight of Hand DC 20. Similar to lifting a small object off someone. But With him being blind the following perception check would have some major penalties for him. Not perfect, but seems within the rules.
That is if you are trying to put it in a pocket or something. You could throw it to the ground on a square near him. A square only has an AC of 5.. but you have to hope he stays there.

Basil NaN |

Basil steps back, taking note of the annoying birds. Birdfood was too far away for her original plan - at least while these orcs were right up to her.
Pulling out one of the grenades, she sets the primer, then throws it at a space behind the Orcs. She hopes they either don't take note of it, don't know what it is, or decide to press the attack regardless.
Attack Spot on Map: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 Soft(Nonlethal): 5d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 5, 4, 5) = 19
That, and it should make it easier to knock them out without killing them...in which case they are not casualities and could be converted after we take care of birdie...
I know the architecture will diminish some of that blast area. Basic Idea is to throw it in a way that Keldor and me are just outside the Blast area, while anybody in Melee with us is still within. If I misinterpreted the map, please adjust according to intent on your own volition.
