Pretty sure it'd hate being airborne and would never jump unless specifically compelled (like by a summoner that summoned it giving an order, say...)
So double move it is! xD
Also, yes, -6.
Reminder: Thawm has a bandolier of CLW potions around her chest for exactly this sort of problem... (but feel free to use other healing if you still have it)
Gauntlet the Eidolon
Keldor steps around the robot, looking for a better angle for flanking and hoping to give Basil a clear shot at the thing.
"Thawm is down! Grab the witch's weapon! See if it can hurt the thing!"
Keldor swings again...

I disagree...I think it would hate flying, not falling. If it hated being surrounded by air, then it would spend most of it's time trying to earth glide. As it stands, to 'operate' properly, it exposes most of it's surface area to "air".
Also, sorry to be a spoilsport, but: "If an opponent is airborne or waterborne, the elemental takes a –4 penalty on attack and damage rolls." So unless the Elemental manages to pin the drone to the ground, earth mastery does not apply, but actually give it a penalty...-one reason i figured it may want to crash on it from above, to bull rush it into the ground.
"Negative. There is no reason to assume her weaponry would excel against her own minions compared to adamantine-blanched ammunition, and finding out would take time we don't have. Do try and remain outside the blast area."
She reloads another cartrige with Adamantine-blanched Pellets, takes aim and blasts the robot in the back, carefully aligning her angle so the construct covers Thawm.
Not extending range so she is not in the blast area, but for flavor.
Attack(Touch): 1d20 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 1 + 4 = 25 Damage(Adamantine): 1d8 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 3 = 10
Crit confirm?: 1d20 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 4 = 13 Damage(Adamantine): 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Got a Grit back from Killing Blow, spending it right away for another Targetted Blast)

Gauntlet rattles the robot, denting it and getting through its defenses.
Basil, from above is able to strike a vital circuit, the bullet rips through the metal casing and strikes a spot that sends sparks flying. One of its motors stops spinning with a sudden jerk and it spirals to the ground and clatters to the floor a few feet away. Occasionally spinning a motor for a second.
Combat over
The room still thrums with energy, quite loudly. The Android and Robot lay destroyed.
For a second I was worried it was going to have 1 HP left, then remembered it was vulnerable to crits.. well done
Gauntlet the Eidolon
Whew! Vulnerable to Crits on robots means it can be stunned/staggered for one round. I think we can manage 1 pt of damage in one round however in reality...
"Basil check the machine! Turn it off...or down if you can figure it out! I can heal Thawm!"

Thawm doesn't immediately respond to Keldor's ministrations, but just before she drinks the last drop of potion, she wakes up suddenly, sputtering and coughing.

"I will check the machinery here, but we are in no hurry to turn something off. This technology is time-worn, and a malfunction could have disastrous results. I would rather not act before a proper analysis and find we triggered an explosive reaction in the energy source of this place that will obliterate anything on this level shortly.",
Basil explains, while kneeling down next to the other Android, taking possession of her weaponry, then assessing her vital status.
Is she destroyed proper, or simply dying? If so, I would like to stabilize her and take her prisoner.
Heal(Stabilize?): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
For the tech components, I would simply take 10 for a result of 20 to check whatever is causing the background energy thrumming and the generator thing.
If I remember right, shutting off the transmitter or aligning it both had a chance to break it permanently. If we find something worthwhile, we may want to try and simply re-align it to send energy to a tool of our choice, rather than it's current destination. Just saying...one less chance to break it.
Gauntlet the Eidolon
Either way works for me as long as it gets turned off safely.
Thawm Uhturj
"Thanks, Keldor." Thawm says finally, her hand covering her temple.
She looks around the room as she struggles to her feet, trying to see if there's some sort of control panel.

She was just dying. So you can stabilize her
Basil's deft hands helps the android to stop dying and bleeding out fluids.
She is still shut down, but is not destroyed.
As you all take a look at the large machine in front of you, you take a bit of time and realize it is a Power Reactor. It seems to not be functioning at its top level, the age of the device has limited its capacity. Either way, it is generating enormous levels of energy. Most of which are being sent into the structure you are in. Some of which seems to be syphened off somewhere. Likely the relay you found, took, and got taken from you.
You are able to tell that this small % that is being siphened off is actually a good thing. it seems like the failsafes are off on the device, and that charge, if not directed somewhere, would build and build and eventually explode. Destroying most of Torch with it.
You are able to deactive the power relay. But that charge would start to build up again. Activating the Fail-safe system would be very tricky to do. A high DC disable device taking 10 minutes to do
For now, the small portion of power is being shunted to the relay somewhere in Torch, then off somewhere distant.
Keldor Whisthawk
Dismissing Guantlet, Keldor walks around keeping his eyes focused on the prisoner.
"We should tie her up in case she tries to get loose. I also appreciate you stabilizing her. I would not have worried if she died of her wounds, but it is better if Torch gets to see her have a trial for her crimes."
Knowledge (Engineering): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Looking over the machine again, he speculates out loud.
"Can we turn the Torch back on here? That was one of our initial tasks when we first entered. Wouldn't that redirect the energy to somewhere safer?"
DM Nex
You do get the impression that this "fail safe" is likely what people recognize as the Torch.
As the excess energy builds.. it needs a release. It then gets released from this room straight up to the torch. The extra energy calms down, and has time to build again.
This brings with it, the timing of the Torch. Which has a very set time for appearing.
Thawm Uhturj
Would the masterwork thieves' tools apply their +2 bonus to this DD check? xD
And can we turn on Torch's torch without the Technologist Feat? Or is Thawm the only ally here who is capable of trying?
Thawm stumbles forward before healing herself.
Bless -> CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Then she continues with a more natural stride towards what appear to be the controls.
"Basil! You can read the weird scripts around this place, right? You think you can do anything with this?"

I don't have the Technologist feat, but I do have the 'lesser' version gained with the 'local ties' trait.
Still trying reason it all out, Keldor waves a hand at the controls.
"So if we can turn the 'Failsafes' back on, the Torch will light again? Right? Then we can disconnect it from the other device safely. Should we go get Khonnir? I'm not trying to disparage anybody's ability here, but he has a much higher understanding of this Technology..."
Thawm Uhturj
Yeah I figured, but I thought I'd ask anyway xD
In that case, Thawm can just... pray for 10 minutes straight to add a sacred +2 to Basil's check xD
Alternatively, do we want to stick around for 3 hours and 20 minutes? 'cause taking 20 sounds really painful but probably a good idea since the town depends on it xD
Or 3 and a half hours: roll the dice once, hoping for a quick fix, but then taking 20 after if it doesn't work? Come on nat 20 ! xD
Also, happy new year's eve ^^
Basil NaN
"For now, lets keep the transfer unit active. The ruins seem to take priority, so only a small percentage of the total energy output gets siphoned off. I believe I should be capable of restoring the fail-safe mechanism that vents excess energy into what gave this local it's name - the Torch. I doubt Khonnirs understanding of this technology is as extensive as you hope. It is a pity my own mentor perished while accompanying him."
Basil takes some time to understand the process of failsafe-activation more fully, then looks at the downed Android:"I believe she would be quite capable of reversing what she did, if she was willing. As for her crimes, that would probably depend on what she could be charged with...aside from breaking and entering - I mostly took her into custody to learn more about the locale and being she mentioned. Chances are she is only an agent, and that means others will take her place to accomplish the goals of her master. Learning more about their intent and organization would be invaluable."
Without further comments, she then starts working. Eventually, after a few minutes, she asks:"Would one of you be able to aid me with simple tasks? This was not constructed with single-person operation in mind."
Disable Device: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 = 24 plus Androffan, and whatever assistance can be rendered aside from the +2 from Thawms prayers.
Thawm Uhturj
Thawm gives a +2 without the Aid Another check, but yes :P
Thawm glances at Keldor when Basil asks for volunteers, then she goes back to praying for Nethys to guide Basil's hands and mind.
Keldor Whisthawk
Keldor offers to help as much as he can, but he insists he must be lead through any actions he needs to perform very carefully.
DM Nex
Basil watches the Androffan language on the strange panel. It seems to be some sort of interface. With a bit of luck, and a bit of knowledge on how technology works granted by Nethys, Basil toggles the correct commands. With a flash of light, the two panels of light connected to the machine pulse with a bright light.
Suddenly 2 huge columns of energy erupt out of the columns. The shoot straight up into a tunnel in the machine. On their way up they seem to intertwine and start to twist around eachother. They erupt upward in an organized manner.
The panel says "Fail safe engaged. Excess energy will result in ejection for one rotation"
Thawm Uhturj
"Whew~
Good job Basil."
Thawm says as she wipes some sweat that had beaded up on her brow.
"Shall we head out, then? I can conjure a horse to help us carry some things..."
Basil NaN
"That...is dissatisfactory.", Basil states, then heads to check on the transmitter.
"The fail safe should only engage if there is an energy build-up - which should not happen before the transfer unit shuts down or stops transmitting - the only logical conclusion would be that through some error, the fail safe takes precedence, which would explain why it was turned off in the first place. Either way, it would seem we find ourselves unable to tap into this energy source...please accept my apologies."
Finishing her checks on the transfer unit, she takes a moment to perform a thorough(including cavity) search of the other android, then pulls her up on her back for a moment before letting her back down.
"A horse would be most welcome. My sister is almost 200 pounds and inconvenient to carry."
DM Nex
A quick check of the transfer shows that the transfer is as been shut off. It also seems like there was a buffer being stored up, even with the transfer engaged. This buffer is currently being released upward in a giant stream of energy.
But your original mission of turning on the torch again is likely complete.
Gauntlet the Eidolon
Re-summmoning Gauntlet, Keldor offer to carry the 'package.'
"I promise, Gauntlet is good for this at least."
He then looks at the stream of energy.
"I think that energy could fry even an ancient red dragon to a crisp. I'm unsure mortals like us should have direct access to this much power."
Thawm Uhturj
Unsure? Speak for yourself.
Thawm chuckles and then summons the aforementioned horse.
"As long as the trip back is less than 6 hours, we shouldn't need to carry her. Before picking up the package, would you mind moving the heretic, Keldor?"
Thawm asks while checking the destroyed hover-robot for detachable loot. Kicking the non-functional pile, she adds "-and either of you think anyone will want this hunk of junk?"
Gauntlet the Eidolon
Hooking a silvery thumb towards the scrap pile, Keldor blathers on.
"I still think we could break down this creature's superstructure, and the last one we fought, to creature ammunition for Basil weapons that would penetrate similar armor more easily. Other than that...I'm sure most of the remains would be worth something to collectors and engineers like Khonnir."
Basil NaN
1 person marked this as a favorite.
"We should have direct access to this power. But whoever attempted to funnel it away should not. But I doubt they will give up so easily."
Basil loads the other Android on the Horse:"There is a lenghty diving passage near the entrance - unless you have more horses available, it may be worthwhile to let Gauntlet carry her from there to the city."
She turns to look at the crashed Drone, the Reactor, the venting process, and other machinery in the room.
"As for the scrap: I very much intend to come back here and study these mechanisms more. With my former mentors home passing on to his niece, and Dirissas arrangement probably running out, I am technically still homeless. Keldor never gave me a proper response, and from what I understand of politeness, that suggests he backs off from his initial offer. As such, I could create a new place of residency right here, where I could study all theses fascinating pieces of technology, and work all night without bothering someone."
Gauntlet the Eidolon
Backing up a bit, Keldor/Gauntlet seems confused.
"I was not...I DID respond...OH YEAH...Yes...ummm...ERASTIL shoot me now?"
He waves at the space around them in general.
"Look, I don't mind SHARING a living area to save money. My curiosity of your species is linked to my interest of the technology around us. NOT just your...body excretions. Also, living here could prove difficult without an easier way in or out. I don't mind the occasional swim, but daily? Finally, I'm sure the town will now want to install some sort of permanent protection and monitoring here now they know how the torch works. Did you plan to volunteer for such a post?"
Thawm Uhturj
"Body excretions?" Thawm asks, eyebrow quirked.
edit: decided to read the post from the link.
That was great! xD
Also, don't forget the alternate exit from the second floor...
Gauntlet the Eidolon
Keldor turns his/Gauntlet's face upward.
"Don't ask. Just...can we just get out of here?"
Basil NaN
"If you mean to imply that the city council would be willing to actually pay me to provide monitoring and ongoing analysis - that certainly sounds desirable. I also don't see why I would need to return to the city proper more than weekly, to give a report. Overall, it definitely seems the better option between bunking here, or being homeless.", Basil responds, then turns to Thawm: "Keldor earlier expressed interest in my unusual body functions. He did not further specify then, but I suppose the focus would be on body excretions with this new update. He subsequently reacted similar to his reaction now. And yes, we can go get out of here. We should secure a holding area capable of securing my sister. I will personally stand watch."
Making ready to leave, she turns to Keldor once more:"Do you wish me to notify you of any excretions for study purposes?"
Gauntlet the Eidolon
Trying not to sound mean Keldor just grunts noncommittally. The sound odd echoing in Gauntlet's weird voice.
"Ughmmhh.
Thawm Uhturj
Deciding to rub it in just a bit more, Thawm finally adds:
"I didn't realize that Keldor was so interested in body fluids. Hm. Anyway, shall we be off? Preferably through the tunnel beside the... Noisy room."
Do we know that it's called an elevator/lift?
DM Nex
As a group, you pile on the goods. Some are being carried by Guantlet. While are some are being carried by the summoned horse. With the torch energy shooting up without stopping above you, you head out.
You go through the main cooridors of this deck, the entry of this deck. Now you are able to avoid the lift, lower deck, and strange desert area. You use the strange exterior cooridor. It loops around, quite a long distance.
You end up in the tunnels with the Skulks. They can be seen cowering in the corners of the room, not quite noticeable.
You make your way to the water. While the horse helped carry things to this point, it will be difficult to use it to carry up to the surface. With everyone still having their ability to water breath from this morning, they head to the surface. Carrying the goods they have. It might be slow for some, and assistance might be needed. But without too much difficulty the group makes their way to the surface of Torch.
Very visible from where you stand the torch seems to be lit. Where it only used to launch itself 10-15 feet in the air, now it shoots hundreds of feet straight upward. The Black hill seems to be no worse for ware from the strange intense torch heat. You can see people making their way up the hill, or looking on from a safe distance. Whispers and muttering about it abound. Though the town seems to think this is progress.
Where to? Khonnir's house? Or to Dolga Freddert's place, who gave you the job. Or to the Captain Aaronlu Langer's place to lock up the uncontous android. All is available to you
Gauntlet the Eidolon
Not even grunting from the exertion, Keldor looks toward the main part of Torch.
"Let's turn over our prisoner to the city guards and then go by Khonnir's house for a quick wash-up. Then fill him in on what happened exactly. I'm sure he would have something to say about all of this."
Thawm Uhturj
LOL ninja'd, I'll just edit a few things...
Also, our prisoner still has whatever protection she had when she stole the thing last night, right? XD

Once finished dragging the prisoner through to the other side of the water (and after failing to identify the magic on her), Thawm uses her ring to summon a second horse.
"Finally, we can put her down again..."
After getting the unconscious android on horseback again, Thawm adds "I agree, Keldor. Let's drop off Basil's 'sister' first. Also, Basil dear, we really should have a talk about any other heretics you might have in your family."
I vote drop off dead unconscious weight first :D

"I concur. I do want to be there when she wakes up, but that should be another few hours, so we can likely drop her off, then head to Khonnir and the council."
Looking at the torch, Basil seems worried:"Not good. The reactor was likely on a low-powered mode, merely maintaining functionality - if the excess that is getting vented is increased by such a magnitude, it was likely powered up into an active state - now supplying the underground complex with energy and still providing enough for that display. I will study it further after our errands to make certain there is no immediate risk for the population of this town."
DM Nex
Thawm, guessed you missed it, but the local Cleric casts an extended Water Breathing spell on you revery day you stay down here. Been going on since they character started heading down there.
As the group moves to the Garrison. The likely spot to find Captain Aaron Langer. When you get there, the Captain is standing just outside the door staring at the torch light. Seeing you, then seeing the body, ”Oh my. Brought me another one, huh? This one alive or dead?”
He brings you inside. Where you can recount some of what is going on. He puts her into one of the cells, binds her hands, and gags her. Restraining her fully. ”Don’t want to have her get out and cause trouble… like the last one”
Sorry about the delay. Work got busy. Promise not going anywhere!
Thawm Uhturj
I figured what you alluded to was something like that, but yes :3
Thawm frowns at 'like the last one'.
"The rat?" Thawm asks, hoping it's not someone more capable.

Sorry all! I crossed my streams again.. Another game.. another life.. a prisoner killed himself in the jail.. NOT this game. I have a OneNote doc of every game I have done.. But since i took this one over, I don't have it.. So expect things to get more "precise" soon. Going to use the start of book 2 as a great new start for me and note taking..

"She is alive. We did not bother taking those who died opposing us into custody, yet. I will, if the council permits, remove their corpses from the complex for proper burial rites to be performed and prevent their return as undead. But this one seemed to be directing the others, having planned this operation, and likely has background information regarding...Scrapwall."
Basil helps to secure the prisoner:"I would like to partake in interrogating her, and help keep her secured. At least until such time that we learned whatever we can from her."
Keldor Whisthawk
Having dropped Gauntlet's facade, Keldor leans on a wall and nods.
"Just be careful Basil. I don't trust that woman. She's a fanatic. I've seen what fanaticism can do to someone. It's mindless. You cannot reason with that."
Basil NaN
"We will see. If she cannot see reason, she will be reborn.", Basil states, matter-of-factly.
Thawm Uhturj
"Reborn? You don't mean finding a new religion, do you?"
Thawm asks, unfamiliar with Android rebirth.
Basil NaN
"No, although that may happen as part of it - if it comes to that. Let us hope it will not be necessary."
Keldor Whisthawk
Khonnir. We need his input before we do anything else really.
Thawm Uhturj
agreed ^^
"No thanks. We've spoken with her entirely too much for the time being."
Thawm shrugs, adding "we've got to go see Khonnir soon anyway."
Does Thawm know Dolga Freddert? xD
Also, since the torch is so... extra torch-y, think we should take another look at that reactor? xD
