If they're just covered in slime, Caelash wipes one of them off to see if it works. If it is something else, and not slime, Caelash calls Sprocket over and has him lick one of them--a child or the most capable looking adult that could aid us, if there is no child. This casts lesser restoration on that subject.

How many captives did we free? If we bring enough water with us, clothe them in soaked clothing, we can probably get them safely to town. They just need to keep their skin moistened every 10 minutes or so, right?

Caelash
you gathered 8 captives, they lack the ability to breath air, their skin is still normal
Caelash Suul
"How many waterskins, blankets, bed rolls, cloaks, and the like do we have? Fill the skins, soak the cloth of everything. They'll have to hold their breath until we can get to some water. Anyone have a bag of holding we can fill with water and people? When they need to take a 'breath' they can breathe in the waterskins. When the skins are empty, we can wring out the wet cloth. If we move fast we should be able to get to a stream or pond en route to the village to re-supply on water and get these folks a rest. We can't just leave them here. Let's move quickly!"
Caelash starts making preparations quickly. He empties his Haversack and puts his contents on one of the mounts. He fills the haversack with water. He fills all the alchemical vials and alembics and beakers, and his empty cognatogen vial with water. He motions for the others to fill every receptacle with water, post haste.
He turns to the freed prisoners and says, "This is going to be a rough journey, and some of you may not be able to make it, but it's the best option we have. You can come with us and we can get you to a safe body of water to breathe, or you can stay here and wait for that fish-demon to come back for you. We can heal you all, but it will take about a week to get you all. I can heal one of you a day, and I'm sure my compatriots can help too. You're going to have to breathe water from our containers. There should be enough to make it to a stream or pond nearby. You'll all have to hold your breath as often as you can, and we only pause for you to breathe water. I can also create water with magic at will, so we will not run out of water along the way." Caelash can cast create water at will, from his Inquisitor spell list, as it's prepared for the day. Can he cast it directly into their lungs to save time?
Caelash looks to Ian and Uriel to see if they're kay with the plan, or have any other thoughts.
Ian Wronski
Ian says "I can create water at will as well. Ian says maybe I can make some containers from nearby plants outside. If we need more."
Caelash Suul
"We won't have the time for that. But if at least two of us can create water, we should be fine with the containers we have (Ian has 3 waterskins, Uriel has 2, I have 1: 6 total). We just have to move at a casual pace. No running."
create water can create at least a gallon of water, which is a ton of water. Surely enough for 1-3 people to take a breath, in addition to our containers.
Uriel hasn't specified his summoner spells known/prepared, but I believe create water is a summoner spell, isn't it?
Ian Wronski
Ian looks for the nearest body of water.

I can also create water at will and can keep people moistened and able to breathe in that fashion.
As a standard action, every six seconds, Uriel can create 6 gallons of water (he is a third level oracle) and do it indefinitely. Hopefully, that should keep everybody going. He also has two waterskins, an extra sack within his backpack, and an extra sack within each set of saddlebags (Bugler and Drummer).
Ian Wronski
Ian says "We should refill the water now and then head back to the town." Ian himself after creating some water takes a drink himself.
Uriel Darkbane
alright you find a small pond in the forest, the water is clean and fresh. with the system you have of creating water and the sack/waterskins you can keep the affected humanoids breathing water just fine
Does that mean that it is necessary for us to keep the system in place to help those in the pond or that it will work to move them farther, i.e. to the town or elsewhere?
Ian Wronski
Ian asks the rescued prisoners "Anyone need a longer break"
Also of course we did not leave the horses
Caelash Suul
So, we get back to town and submerge them in watering holes, troughs, baths, or the like and keep them hydrated while we explain the situation to the local authorities.
Furthermore, we gather the town leaders/guards and have them put in place measures to prevent anyone else from going to the cave until we can deal with the aboleth.
Ian Wronski
Ian says"Ah we got the prisoners back to town but we should we do next". Then Ian turns and looks at the sky.
Uriel Darkbane
I am not sure, Ian. Although we might keep the area cordoned off, I fear the aboleth, if not others of its ilk, may still find ways to cause problems. Through other openings it may ensnare others and cause trouble for the town or may commit any number of other crimes to cause trouble and increase its slavestock.
Ian Wronski
Ian replies "I wonder if there are other caves in the area that also are connected to the sea." Ian pauses to take a breath and says "We should look and maybe check to see if anyone is still missing."
Ian Wronski
Ian says "I do have a fair bit of coin on me to buy supplies needed. I think an axe will be useful to gather wood to seal off the cave I have no expirence working with stone or metal. Nails will also be quite useful in sealing off the cave."
Did we see any trees on the way there?
Ian Wronski
In town can I buy a cold iron battleaxe and some nails Also what time is it in character about.
Ian says"I want to by an axe an some nails I already have a saw with me".
Ian Wronski
How much for the nails? Ian returns with an axe an attaches it to the saddlebags on Marie his hosre. Ian says "Why are the slaves we rescued giving us the silent treatment Ian asks?"
Ian then looks towards the sky and tries to observe winds and clouds to see if any rain is coming any more.surivival

"Not really tired, so much as aggravated. Bunch of ingrates, these folks are. I say we stick around town for a few days to see if any more trouble springs up. If it stays quiet, we move to the next town. Something is not right here, but they don't really seem to want our help. Maybe they want the aboleths to take people?" Caelash makes sure to say this within earshot of the town leaders.
Uriel Darkbane
Uriel searches out some of the townspeople who have been recovered and attempts to gather some information regarding their capture. Specifically the location as well as other circumstances of their capture and any information that may have been given to them by the aboleths, especially actions asked to be performed and places taken. Uriel will take special care to ensure he does not make those questioned feel they are being blamed or criticized for what they may or may not have done.
