I'll be away for about a week starting tomorrow. I should still be able to post but it may be less frequent. I'm actually going to visit Angie.
Shalina Sekh-at |
The visit is good but it's been busy. I have some downtime tonight but Ang is out at a school trustee meeting.
Shalina Sekh-at |
I missed my window to wave and say hi. It seems things have passed. But it did make me chuckle. I totally didn't expect Shalina to get mentioned elsewhere.
Rudabeh |
Thankfully windows are Alseta's speciality, and in her wisdom she keeps them wide open so that friendships and community may blossom! My snooping also helps, but in any case, hi.
The GM accidently mistook Rudabeh for Shalina once, I took it as a very high compliment!
You are... very high level.. in a long and prestigious game. I feel like I'm a bepimpled highschool freshman talking to a college senior that has a motorcycle and a leather jacket and a 24 pack of beer strapped to the back.
I'd like to hear about this spawn of Rovagug battle, if you could humor me. You fought inside one? What the hell?
Shalina Sekh-at |
@Rudabeh: Thanks very much for the kind words. But I don't think I've ever been on the 'cool' side of anything. I'm always surprised when other people want to play with me and I'm grateful that Mowque has put up with me for this long because I really enjoy our game.
I just took a peek at your game with Mowque and your writing definitely puts mine to shame. I always forget that you can read other people's games. I will have to take a closer look when I have time during the Christmas break.
As for fighting inside the spawn, it was both intriguing and disgusting. We needed a magic portal to get in and out. And at it's center where it was most alive, the flesh kept moving and birthing other horrid creatures. Thankfully it wasn't fully awoken when we were inside. That was the ritual we were trying to stop. Even though the fighting against the spawn was difficult, the hardest part was that Mowque had Shalina fighting alongside with her mortal enemy as an ally.
Rudabeh |
Thanks, but honestly prose can be overrated in pbp games because it can slow things down when you spend an hour describing the steam coming off a rhubarb pie instead of having your character do something. I just enjoy I banging my fists on the keyboard until pretty words come out (and the GM indulges me), whereas you're actually moving the story along. I haven't read your whole game, but your interactions with characters feels incredibly genuine with every bit of dialogue. You don't need the descriptions because you and Mowque have built a great and fast game built upon characters, dialogue, and action. For example I absolutely loved your recent interaction with the orange seller. Shalina really IS a hero, I love it.
Woooow that fight sounds insane. Inside the spawn of Rovagug is one thing but WITH your mortal enemy? Sounds like you really outdid yourself on that one GM, bravo. I'm going to have to look it up in the gameplay thread and read it now.
Rudabeh |
I read through the entire section of the Unholy First being summoned and damm, that was an incredible adventure, great job to both of you. You're a very clever person Shalina, I wouldn't have thought of a lot of solutions you came up with. Excellent writing all around and GM those were some amazing moments you created. The guy under the bed that became a gibbering mouther was awful in the best way, and the Risen Guard captain was the epitome of melancholy.
My favorite moments were the water room puzzle (super cool and gave me anxiety) and the final battle's masterful use of flesh walls and whatever the hell that terrifying mythic ooze was really made it shine.
Baskir was a really, really bad dude, I agree... and I only saw part OOC his awfulness.
Shalina Sekh-at |
Merry Christmas! Wishing you and yours all the best.
I'm away from home so I'm on my tablet which means shorter posts...
Shalina Sekh-at |
Of course I'm enjoying things! Hopefully her survival skill will get them through the wilderness unscathed :). And hopefully they'll either avoid the druids or they end up being friendly because now she really would like to see the ruins.
I don't know of anyone looking for a game just now but if I hear anything, I'll definitely let you know
Shalina Sekh-at |
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
*hangs head in shame*
Shame on me
Shalina Sekh-at |
Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best in 2019 :)
Shalina Sekh-at |
But I don't wanna fight an Ent :)
I'll get a proper post up tonight. Work is kinda crazy right now so minimal posting during the day :(
Shalina Sekh-at |
Just realized that I forgot to update her profile with her current hps and such. I'll do that tonight when I get home. I'll also change her number of rage rounds.
Shalina Sekh-at |
I agree. She's definitely not looking or feeling very hero-y right now.
Shalina Sekh-at |
Vindicated!
If Tekk's size is reduced and Shalina is raging, could she carry both Sivvek and Tekk while using her fly potion?
Otherwise it'll be invisibility all around and hope they don't hear us. Unless someone else can cast Silence :)
Shalina Sekh-at |
I think that was Shalina and Tekk's first real fight with each other.
Even if flying, we'll probably still need invisibility. I'm really wishing I had a portable hole right about now :)
Shalina Sekh-at |
Would it even be worth entertaining me carrying them while flying?
GM Mowque |
Flying uses the same rules as ground encumbrance, ie carrying capacity by your Strength score. The more weight, the slower you are. Looking at the chart chart HERE, Shalina could carry a max of 200 pounds, including her own armor and gear. And doing so would drastically reduce your speed and other negative modifiers.
Does that answer your question?
Shalina Sekh-at |
I knew she’d be at heavy encumbrance and moving slower but I thought it would still be faster than walking
How much do Tekk and Sivvek weigh? And how much does her armour weigh? I could work out the weight of everything else
Shalina Sekh-at |
Nobody wants to do math. That's why I got into science!
That's fine. I just wanted a ruling :) Will think of something else...
Rudabeh |
But I'm also not going to demand a physical reward from someone who has their finger on the pulse of the universe. That would be incredibly presumptuous and rude.
This is now my new favorite PbP quote.
Also, if you don't mind me asking, what field are you in Shalina? I do analytical biochemistry relating to fungal toxins found in grains, mostly with HPLC-MS.
Shalina Sekh-at |
I work in an academic research lab as the lab manager as well as a technician. We primarily do immunology research and I do a lot of molecular biology. When I started with the lab, we were focused on type 1 diabetes research but have spread to other autoimmune diseases in the last few years such as MS, arthritis, IBS, liver autoimmunity, and asthma.
The latest big journal article from our lab can be seen here. My boss, Dr. Pere Santamaria, has developed pMHC-based nanomedicines which have some encouraging results. You won't find me as one of the main authors but I am in the acknowledgments :)
Rudabeh |
Very nice, publishing in Nature is quite the accomplishment, fantastic work to you and your team. Best I've personally done is the Analytical Methods journal, lol.
I've kind of wanted to be a lab manager since I graduated, but got a job as a solo technician working directly with a scientist. We serve as more of an analytical support role for the geneticists and biologists in the building, but I have some personal side projects working on plant-fungus interactions using metabolomics. I wrote it up but my boss never submitted it for publication either because it sucked or he just never got around to it (who knows).
In any case I've heard about training T cells to fight specific cancers, but this is really cool work. If I'm getting the gist of this, the nanoparticles both stop the T cells from carrying out the autoimmune response and increase the number of regulatory B cells responsible for suppressing the overactive T cells? Very cool.
You're using a humanized mouse model right now? (which I did not know was a thing) How long until you're doing actual human trials?
Shalina Sekh-at |
@Rudabeh: If you enjoy the science more, I'd caution against lab manager. I find I do much more HR work and paperwork than I do science anymore. Part of the reason I got into science was so that I didn't have to deal with people...
There's also regulatory T cells involved in the process. We're doing exploratory work now to find out more about the regulatory B and T cells involved.
NSG mice are even more immunodeficient than SCID mice. Because they don't have an immune system of their own, you can reconstitute them with human immune cells resulting in a humanized mouse. I know human trials are definitely what is being moved towards but I would think we're still at least a couple years away. It is a very slow process.
Shalina Sekh-at |
That's not exactly the descriptor word that Shalina would use but I'm glad you're having fun playing him. I like having an NPC that Shalina is at odds with but there's no real hostility or animosity. At least on her part :)
Rudabeh |
Sivvek's alchemy & butcher shop; No fresher than squealing!
Shalina Sekh-at |
Would you allow a knowledge or spellcraft roll to determine if all the ingredients are necessary or if Sivvek is just messing with her?
Or if she's just supposed to get the ingredients, then she'll get on with it :)
Shalina Sekh-at |
I haven't been keeping up with her game but I will always agree that Angie is great :)
Shalina Sekh-at |
Is it just me or is it odd for a dwarf to be a sailor?
