Pádraig Henry considers the early stages of the plan as it's taking shape.

"Yeah, I almost forgot about Nox. That's a problem, for sure." He nods at Geoffrey's reminder.

"We go in disguise, early enough to scope the area and view the preparations. I'll cast message on all of us, to improve our communications."

"But if it's settled, that we've decided to go, then what's our objective, our goal? What do we hope to gain by this gambit?"

"In disguise, we might have a chance to learn something from the Thrune himself or from the other 'honored guests' the Lord-Mayor invites to the luncheon. But that's risky, if anyone sees through our disguises."

"Doesn't sound like any of us are willing to go before the Lord-Mayor and reveal ourselves as the Silver Ravens."

"And if it all goes to hell, we need a plan to get out of there in a hurry. A distraction significant enough to call away some of the Lord-Mayor's security forces would help. Some of our allies could handle that, I think." The halfling looks at the faerie dragon with a smile.

Frustrated by the nonchalant shrugs from Victor and Issil, Pádraig Henry throws up his small hands and arms in defeat.

"All right," he sighs. "Perhaps the Lord-Mayor is sincere and only wants to reward us for our good deeds."

"Let me know how it goes." The bard walks away before he loses his temper.

To distract himself from his worries and concerns, he looks for Rexus.

"Learned anything new from your studies?"

Pádraig Henry finds Rexus standing in the room where the party had fought the skum leader, casting spells as Morvena watches. A lantern floats behind him as he runs around the cave. "This one is called Dancing Lantern. When magic flows through your blood, a spellbook becomes but a simple tool to aid in honing it. You can cast it - and any other spell appropriate to your skill level - several times a day if you study it the way I do. Give it a try."

Rexus turns back to see Pádraig walk in. He turns and smiles at the halfling. "Ah, no more about the Silver Ravens' history, I'm afraid. But I have been speaking with Hetamon, and he's suggested we, as an organized group, begin holding a weekly meeting to discuss future tactics and concerns. A Silver Council, if you will."

"Octavio suggests it may not be best to hold it at the Lucky Bones, but rather alternate the meeting between a different venue each week. Keep Thrune's agents from learning about it."

Rexus snaps his finger to dismiss the lantern. "But for today, what have you decided as far as Thrune's invitation goes?"

"Some of us are worried it's a trap, Rexus," Pádraig Henry says, watching Morvena learning her new skills.

"I don't want to risk attending the Lord-Mayor's luncheon, unless there's something that's worth that risk."

"The Silver Ravens are a small but growing resistance movement. They're brave and loyal. We shouldn't take advantage of their bravery or needlessly exploit their loyalty to achieve an aim that we can't clearly articulate."

"A Silver Council sounds like a good idea, and meeting away from here, never at the same location, is a wise precaution. Is there time to hold one this morning, before the luncheon?"

Geoffrey looks up as Padraig interrupts the training Morvena was receiving. While usually he enjoyed spending time with his charge watching spell-casting taking place was, to be honest, quite boring.

Eager to take a break from her studies for a change, Morvena considers the options and their ramifications.

"Yes, the council is a fine idea no matter what," she nods. "As for this meeting with Thrune...I think there are two things we must consider. The first is that it almost certainly is some manner of trap. At the very least we are likely to be arrested for vigilantism in relation to the death of Wex," she points out. "I am sure that the current laws of the city forbid such measures being taken by anyone that is not the dottari or an agent appointed by Thrune himself. That being said..."

Morvena pauses, trying to consider how to phrase her second point - for she could see and understand the viewpoints of Geoffrey and Padraig but also those of Issil and Victor.

"...I believe we must also consider that the people of Kintargo are beginning to look to us to champion the cause of the common man. Putting in some manner of appearance at this event would, most likely, greatly bolster morale of those that support us for it would show that we are not afraid and not inclined to back down from a challenge so easily."

She looks around at her companions, including Rexus. "The question then becomes this: would this bolstering of morale be worth the risk of attending? I...I am almost inclined to say that it does, though doing so does not mean I advise throwing caution to the wind."

"Well, I'm not opposed to attending, provided we've taken the time to don the most effective disguises possible. But the decision to reveal ourselves ought to be taken only if we're confident we can escape. We won't know that until we've seen the location and the Lord-Mayor's security."

"It would be wise for one or more of us to remain anonymous. If any of us is captured," Pádraig Henry gestures toward the rogue, "I think Victor, with all of his talents, stands the best chance of getting us out."

He nods in agreement with Morvena's suggestions. "Perhaps a halfling would be less inspiring to the common people of Kintargo than humans would be. I can remain close, providing a bit of 'spontaneous' entertainment for the public gathering, while remaining otherwise anonymous."

The bard points to the faerie dragon. "Invisible, Vendalfek could help recon the area and provide airborne surveillance, alerting us to any Thrune reinforcements or nearby nasty surprises outside our line of sight."

He looks to the rest of the Silver Ravens. "I'm reluctant to jeopardize any of our other followers directly. Indirectly, however, they might be able to instigate a distraction among the other folks that could help any escape attempt. I could lend my own skills to that effort, if it's necessary."

"Most are still here for a quick Silver Council meeting, though Octavio and his armigers had gone home for the night, and said they will not be in attendance at Thrune's meeting for obvious reasons," Rexus shakes his head. "Their Order is still prohibited in Kintargo. It's too risky."

Rexus leads you back to the main room of The Lucky Bones, where the tengu family and Hetamon await. Laria Longroad bounces back down the ladder smelling of fresh baked goods, and begins passing muffins around the table for the first impromptu meeting. "Given the short schedule, we don't have a lot of time to gather the others or find another location for our Council. We'll have to do it here. So! Let's look at what we do know," Hetamon drops the newspaper Laria had brought on the table. "The meeting will be at Aria Park just outside the Kintargo Opera House. The park was where the protest was several weeks ago, when all of this began. I believe you might've been in attendance at that time. It's likely Thrune won't get too close to the crowd. He isn't foolish to think Kintargans all approve of his.. ways."

"This is a strategic play on his part. If word gets out that it was the Silver Ravens that brought Wex to justice - and no doubt the rumors of such are already spreading - then it will force Thrune to recognize us for our service to the city. It could bolster support, as Morvena had mentioned." Hetamon taps on the newspaper.

... And then he nearly falls off his chair as Vendalfek materializes on his shoulder. "Hehe. I heard what you said, halfling, so I had a look at the Park! Lots of those Thrune guards. Rows of chairs being setup. Some people already took the best seats. Nothing too unusual though!"

Rexus raises his hand and speaks up. "We should be getting ready. The invitation said noon, and it's already ten."

You've definitely rested. Taking 20 might be a stretch... It takes 1d3 x 10 minutes to prepare a Disguise, so taking 20 would mean 3-10 hours.

After spending as much time as possible to craft the perfect disguises for yourselves, you depart The Lucky Bones together with Vendalfek, the tengu family, Rexus, and Hetamon Haace. The streets leading to Aria Park are sparse in their foot traffic, and it's obvious why: the sound of a large crowd assembling ahead becomes evident the closer you get to the Opera House.

The scene outside the Opera House is pretty inviting. Rows of chairs have been setup in the open area just in front of the fountain, and offers a good view of the Opera House's front doors, where a regal red and black carpet has been unfurled. Many of the seats are full, and you even see some familiar faces - the Shellets' parents and Lady Docur are in attendance. Merchants hoping to capitalize on the sudden meeting march along the rows selling bags of popcorn, sausages on a bun, and tea sandwiches. Servants sweep the park grounds and wipe old moss off the fountain. Dottari guards stand at each corner of the park and four more stand at the opera house doors.

"Hehe. Guess we should find our spots before it starts!" An invisible Vendalfek whispers via message.

Go ahead and place yourselves where you'd like to be - there's no map for this part, but I can certainly reuse the one from the protest if you prefer.

Conversations die down as noon nears, and all is silent when the bells above the Cathedral of Asmodeus ring out five times. The ground-floor doors to the opera house open, and a procession of a dozen Hellknights span out across the front stairway. A pair of hulking cerberi accompany them, as does the High Priest of Asmodeus in Kintargo, Corinstian Grivenner.

Finally, Barzillai Thrune walks out as the church bells fade, a smile on his face. The crowd erupts in boos and cheers.

"Thrune's the real murderer!"
"Thrune keeps the streets safe! Get over yourself!"
"Because of Thrune, my cousin - who only stole a loaf of bread - was doghoused!"

The Hellknights all raise and dig their polearms into the ground in unison, silencing the crowd once more.

Thrune walks down the steps, the harsh stare on his face making a lie of his politic smile.

Perception DC 20, Thrune:

Thrune appears a bit haggard and pale, as if he's aged since the last major public appearance only a few weeks ago.

"Well done, well done! Would that more of the citizenry were as keenly observant and helpful as you intrepid citizens! For bringing such an awful murderer to justice, the City of Kintargo would like to offer you gifts. That is, if you are willing to come out? Don't be shy. I've very little time, and these gifts were meant just for you."

And then he looks directly at Morvena and Geoffrey.

Geoffrey pales briefly as Barzilia stares at both Morvena and himself. That does it...Victor no more disguise tips from you!

He pauses to consider his options here. While fleeing the scene was certainly a viable option here the strategist in him also knew this was a golden opportunity to gain some valuable insight on the man who is in charge of Kintargo.

Padraig's observation is strange and needs to be looked into further. We may never get this close to him again...

He quickly whispers a message to the other Ravens, "I am going to accept our gift. Get Morv out of here." then he leans close to Morvena whispering in her ear. "Don't come after me."

Rising to his feet he slowly approaches the ruler of Kintargo, a calm look on his face. Once he has arrived at the indicated spot where Thrune awaits he announces proudly, "I am here to accept our gift from the honorable rulers of this fine city. While it was an honor to rid this city of that foul criminal, I truly hope that the beneficent rulers will no longer shirk their responsibilities to their citizens of Kintargo!" As he turns to face Barzilia he watches the other man's reaction carefully...

Now much closer to Thrune, Geoffrey gets a better look at his face, and it's odd. Thrune looks to have aged several years in only a few weeks, and it doesn't look like something that could really be stress related. Whatever it was causing it seemed.. unnatural.

But Thrune smiles at Geoffrey and Morvena, ignoring his remark, and claps his hands once. "No, he did not kill the man, nor did you... Silver Raven." Thrune pauses for effect as murmurs circulate the crowd. "That's right, folks, this proud Silver Raven here - just like the others I am sure he has brought with him today - is the reason that murderer was brought in. Please, applaud their efforts."

As the crowd nervously claps, one of the Hellknights advances with a bag, and starts pulling out items and handing them to Geoffrey: a ring, two belts, a headband, and a cloak.

"Here you are. For you and the others. I have no doubt you have great works still ahead of you. Perhaps you may again be of service to your government. Please take these gifts from the city of Kintargo as Thrune’s thanks to your services rendered, and please continue to work to ensure, as I do, this grand city’s safety and proud legacy."

Geoffrey easily senses the sarcasm dripping from Thrune's voice. Thrune suddenly turns, and starts walking towards the Opera House doors, still talking. "There will be a time, soon, where we might have more to discuss, but for now, the duties of a lord-mayor call. You will, of course, excuse my brevity. Thank you again for your service to this city!"

The doors shut behind Thrune, but the Hellknights and their pets stay put as conversations and gossip fills the air, with many speaking of their excitement with the idea of the Silver Ravens - even if misplaced. The Asmodean Priest is seen whispering to the Hellknights as he glares over at Geoffrey. It wasn't as if the little rebellion group wasn't already known of, but an official acknowledgement from Thrune himself made things a lot more public.

The Silver Ravens gain another 25 supporters, but Notoriety also goes up to 20. The rebellion ranks up to Level 8.

Geoffrey exhales in relief as Thrune lets him go, and also feels troubled as to what he saw in the other man's face.

What could be causing his unnatural aging? I need to discuss this with Rexus and the others...

When the Carnelian Signet moves in front of him he barely remembers in time that he was not supposed to know this woman.

"Your loyalty to the Silver Raven, and your service is most appreciated, my lady! Certainly with such a ravishing lady," he gives her a bawdy wink, "our cause cannot fail!"

As Geoffrey leads the Carnelian Signet away from the crowds he mutters in her ear "Nice job Issil. Now lets get out of here and check out these gifts. I wouldn't put it past him to shower us with cursed items. What I saw from Thrune frightened me more than being threatened with doghousing!"

But they turn their tide upon you
When the sea begins to cry

Have you seen the changing windows
Of the sea beyond the stars
And the sky beyond the sunbeams
And the world beyond your dreams

Have you seen the old world dying
Which was once what new worlds seem
Have you seen the silver raven
She has wings that barely gleam

They barely gleam, they barely glimmer
As she circles past the sun
And she tries to tell her sister
That her trials have just begun

Have you seen the silver raven
She has wings and she can fly
Far above the darkened waters
Far above the troubled sky
