Amenephus holds up a cautionary hand. Under the rumbling of machinery he hears voices.

You are at the end of a passage leading to the vent shaft room.

MAP

You are at the west end of the corridor leading to the vent shaft room. What are your plans? Obviously at this point you can see nothing but the door.

Anyone want to sneak up to the door and listen in on the conversation? I would myself, but dragonborns tend to go *thud thud* when they try to sneak (I have a Stealth +4.)

Prod.

Rusty pads up to the door and attempts to listen to the voices within.

OOC:

Stealth 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

The roaring crump of machinery effectively masks Rusty's less than stealthy approach and he is able to move through the slightly open door and into the room. Here, he can hide behind an enormous set of bellows without anyone being the wiser. The dragonborn might well consider himself lucky, as the room is full of creatures, intent on some abominable ritual.

MAP

The dwarf girl, Vianna, limp with fever, sags in the arms of a human and an armoured beast, while behind her a spined devil and another human look on gleefully. Around the room, golden-eyed dwarves and a leering kobold wait exultantly.

A older, robed dwarf advances on her, holding a steaming beaker of liquid gold in tongs.

"We bring the blessing! The ceremony will be completed!"

The spined devil brutally pulls back Vianna's head and prises her jaw open as the dwarf dumps the contents down her throat. Dropping her callously to the floor, the assembled group watch with a kind of vicious pleasure as the dwarf screams, writhes and clutches at her chest. Her eyes open wide with golden fury as the older dwarf stands over her exhorting her to accept the transformation.

The dwarf bellows defiantly and starts to change...

Mmm. I'd say this would be the right time to bust in and take some names.

Initiative 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 (Okay, maybe rolling initiative is a bit presumptuous, but Nayce is all about bringing destruction upon demons and cultists.)

Male Human Swordmage/Wandering Swordmage 11

We're adventurers. Beating cultists is our job. Also, I wish we had a controller right about now. Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Sounds like a fine idea to me. You're a little premature, as unless you've joined Rusty, you can't see any of this yet, but go ahead. I'm sure he'll tell you. A controller would be helpful certainly, but we'll see how it goes.

Init so far - Don't forget that Dorvin's awesome presence gives you a +2 to that if you're within 10 squares of him.

Male Human Swordmage/Wandering Swordmage 11

I remembered the +2, and really am at 16, so Isari will be ahead of me.

First off, you're the only one here with an area attack, and you're already near a large group of things that are hopefully minions. You know what to do.

Anyway, you take out the lower clump of enemies, probably with a little help from Amenephous, while the rest of us work on beating the devil/priest/other bunch of minions. (I'll probably be putting my aegis on the devil, then let Quillian deal with him while I go take out the minions, and Nayce is probably going to go for the priest.)

Features of the room:
Dark tan areas are machinery. They provide cover.
Light tan areas are pipes running overhead - 3 squares up. They can be climbed onto.
Orange areas on the walls are steam vents.

As the group advance into the chamber, matters take an unexpected turn. Vianna bellows again and blasts the robed dwarf and the kobold with molten gold from her mouth, taking them completely unawares. The liquid doom engulfs the pair, melting and incinerating them with a glittering death shroud. Now fully transformed into a golden dragon, she takes to the air, desperately looking for a way to escape.

Clawing frantically at one of the air shafts she rips a hole in the wall and prepares to fly into it.

The remaining cultists are fleetingly dumbstruck by the turn of events, but the false Journeyman retains enough presence of mind to shout to the others "Leave her! We must finish our work here. Destroy this!" He points to the vital machinery.

Rusty's reptilian eyes are full of horror as the diabolical dwarves torture Vianna. Then his heart sings with pride when she transforms into a beautiful gold dragon. Unable to restrain himself any longer, the dragonborn unleashes his fiery breath on the conspirators.

========================================================================

OOC:

If my line of sight is not blocked by the machinery, I'll use my breath weapon with my Hurl Breath feat:

Quote:

When you use the dragon breath power, you can hurl it as an
area attack instead of using it as a close blast. You create
an orb of energy that explodes in a burst 2 with a range of
10 squares.

I'll center the blast on M-13 which should catch all the enemies in the southern group.

"Mind fillin' me in before I start splittin' heads in Moradin's name?"

Male Dwarf Warlord 10

I have updated Dorvin with Martial Power 2 stuff.

iplay4e Character Sheet

Specifically, from now on he only has +4 Init and instead of granting +2 to everyone's init, either I or an ally in a close burst 3 can shift up to half speed when init is rolled.

With that in mind, Rusty can make his attack. Want to go for it Rusty?

Absolutely! I'd like to use the attack and rolls I meant to use in the surprise round.

Rusty takes full advantage of Dorvin's help to shift around the giant bellows and bellow in his turn, belching fire over the unsuspecting dwarves. Five of the creatures crumple under his assault, turned to ashes before they can do anything to help themselves.

That hit everything but G3. Cleared the ground a little, I'd say.

Uses AP to climb up to better position. Knives of the Mountain (AC). Area burst 3 within 10. Centred on K11. Targets Nayce, Hronagar, Amenephus, Dorvin, Isari, Quillan, Rusty and the Bolter.

Rev, only those non-oath targets that end adjacent to me gain the vulnerability to damage as in incentive to stay away from me.

Also, Save vs. Falling Prone; 1d20 ⇒ 14

Quillan is rocked from behind by the mighty hit but with typical dwarven stubborness, grits his teeth and holds his ground against the assault.

"Hittin' me is only gonna' make it worse for yer' beasty here," Quillan says to the Hammerer with cold certainty and through the strength of his enmity bond, his axe's edge glows and sharpens with each blow that is dealt to him.

Thanks for the clarification. It did seem somewhat overpowered ... (British understatement at work).

Isari points at Hronagar, who soon feels the chill of Isari's aegis fall over him. He then begins to step to the side, only to step onto the machinery next to the spined devil, and the machinery soon turns slick with a thin coating of ice as he slashes into it's side.

    Putting my Aegis on Hr, using Armenthor's Step to teleport to H15, then using Sleet Strike on SD(Cold, if it hits the target and any adjacent enemies fall prone if they shift before EOMNT) 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 332d12 + 8 ⇒ (4, 3) + 8 = 15

I hope covering the outside in a thin coating of ice doesn't mess up the machinery. Arcana, what do I know about the devil? 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17

Isari casually drops his Aegis on Hronagar before landing beside his natural foe, the spined devil. The creature hisses as the swordmage's blade bites deep into him, cooling the boiler. But not otherwise harming it. Steam rises around the precariously balanced pair.

    Superb move, Isari.

    Isari

    Spoiler:
Medium immortal humanoid (devil). Spined devils serve as scouts and sentries in the Nine Hells. They gather in raucous, marauding bands, winging through the burning skies and viciously harrying any prey they come across. Some serve as spies and messengers to powerful devils.

    Nayce is bloodied.

I can't recall whether I can take free actions while dazed. If I can, I put a shroud on Sebastian Ufastis.

Nayce sends his shadowy noose after Hronagar, attempting to trip it up.

Executioner's Noose versus Hronagar 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20 vs Fortitude. 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13 force damage on a hit and it is slowed until the end of my next turn. (I will forego the pull effect of that power, so that it stays in range of Quillan.)

    Save 1d20 ⇒ 4

Edit: I forgot that Hronagar is dazed, and therefore grants CA. +2 to that attack roll.
