When I suggested focusing on boons, I did not mean to play the scenario once just to get boons, basically planning to fail in order to use 30 turns for boon collection, and then play it again aiming to win. I've never played a scenarios this way, and it goes completely against my grain. So I vote No on that.

That said, if everyone else wants it, I'm a team player; my only questions are:
1. How sure are we we have time left for 3 scenarios (2C twice and 2D once)?
2. 2D is pretty brutal. It's possible we might even fail it. Is everyone cool with that risk, given we wouldn't have time to repeat it?

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Female Lunar Naga Tier 1 Sorcerer

Looking at the scenario now, it's possible our best boon-collection strategy *is* to win quickly, because we've a 12-card plunder stack that is likely to decrease as we have more Aquatic fights. Just saying.

Let's strategize, whether we are boon farming or not:

We don't want Tempest Cay and Raker Shoals occupied at the same time. It was FAQed that the Tempest Cay location power affects all structural damage incurred everywhere (for example, it makes Raker Shoals' SOT power inflict 2 structural damage).

I forget: do we have anyone that can avoid SOT effects? There's two nasty ones here.

Celeste will start at Floating Shipyard, but on my 1st turn move to Tempest Cay and try to close it quickly (my Knowledge is d8+3).

Who has what loot (from the 0-1F scenario reward)?
I'm assuming:
Bekah - Besmara's Tricorne
Yoon - Vindictive Harpoon

Just realised Yoon can't take the harpoon. Hasn't completed 0-1F

Sorry, overlooked this.

Number is in my stats near avatar.

Female Human (Bl3or4) | 3 Die Bumps | My Deck Handler Tier 4 Troublemaker Bard / UC (12789-1002)

Question: Should it be needed, do we randomly pull cards off the stack or start with 1 or start with 12?

Bekah 12789 wrote:

If we need to banish cards from the stack, the exact cards banished will be random (note that the scenario setup instructions has you shuffle the stack, which I didn't do as I opted for a nicer presentation instead).

Also, if people could be a bit more explicit about when they get feats (for tier rewards) and what deck upgrades they're taking or passing up on, that will massively help my reporting. Right now, I have no idea whether or not people actually took any upgrades at all for the first two scenarios.

If you could report back with a brief summary of what you've taken feat and upgrade-wise, I'd greatly appreciate that.

Female Lunar Naga Tier 1 Sorcerer

Sorry, overwhelmed box-runner :).

Celeste 0-2A:
Celeste's first scenario at tier 2. Took skill feat (Charisma +1).
No change to deck.

Celeste 0-2B:
Second tier 2 scenario. Took power feat (Hand size 7).
Random pull reward: Aqueous Orb, spell 2. Took that.
No other upgrade.

Deck Handler

Sorry, I forgot to post my feats earned. I'm a bit slow on the uptake :(

Just FYI:
I've been swamped at work, and now I leave directly so spend time with my teenagers from my first marriage.
I'll post when I can - this may be about 10-11 PM tonight, or else in the early hours tomorrow.

What AD number was the weapon you got for the scenario reward? I tried looking for Captain's Cutlass in my OA2 deck and couldn't find it, and I didn't spot it in Ultimate Magic or Ultimate Equipment either so I'm either missing a card or I have no idea what deck(s) you're using for your Yoon :)

Captain's Cutlass is in both Pathfinder Tales and Ultimate Intrigue.

Yoon is using Intrigue. Captains Cutlass is AD1

Matsu K -- you can punt vs the ally Coral Capuchin if you want.

The scenario power only kicks in when Aquatic monsters are undefeated, not for failing any check against Aquatic cards (if that is your question)(guessing wildly).

EDIT: Ok, checked Google Hangout -- I was wrong (I was racking my brains to understand why anyone would want this card, which I always found rather useless.) It's to have an Ally 1 upgrade. OK.

Female Lunar Naga Tier 1 Sorcerer

We know the henchman is in the last 3 cards of Mancatcher Cove. If we get it down to the last 3, I can Augury & hopefully close it on my turn. (Or, everyone could leave the Cove now and if you leave me 1 blessing I could do it all myself, but my health won't be so great after.)

Sorry for the delay in updates; Sundays are super busy for me. In general, I'll be able to answer quick questions on Sunday but will not have time to post scenario updates as that takes anywhere from 10-30 minutes.

Understood, skizzerz. Life always comes first.

As for me: I was absolutely pegged at work (again), and now I'm with my wife. I'll look to post in the 7 to 8 pm EDT timeframe.

In my case, it miiiiiiight be because I have two Pathfinder RPG sessions scheduled on Sunday (total of ~8 hours in game, and I'm the GM for one of them so I usually need an extra 1-2 hours to prep for the session on top of it). :P

Here's a possible plan for closing out this scenario (based on Hangouts discussion). It involves the following temp closes:

Balazar w/ Padrig: Cannibal Isle
Celeste: Tempest Cay
Bekah: Scar Bay
Floating Shipyard: Kasmir
Raker Shoals: Yoon
Villain: Radovan

Turn 19: Yoon moves to Windward Isle (taking all with her), explores
Turn 20: Rad stays at Isle, explores
Turns 21-24: Kasmir/Balazar/Celeste/Bekah get in temp closing positions described above
Turn 25: Yoon moves to Raker Shoals
Turn 26: Rad stays at Isle, explores multiple times if necessary, defeats villain (combat 14 then 16 checks)

Of course, this assumes all temp closings will work. What could go wrong? :)

We should have a mess of blessings to help. Something like 7 total, and Rad may not need any blessings to defeat villain. Though Rad could recharge Celeste's BoElements to seal the deal.

Without blessings, Rad rolls the following:

1st combat: 1d8+3d4+1d6(CW spy)+3
2nd combat: 2d8(w/Norge display)+3d4+3

As a last resort, Rad can bury Leathers to add 3 (1+AD#) to either combat check after the roll.

Female Lunar Naga Tier 1 Sorcerer

Not having checked the hangout discussion, my first reaction was, "What about group damage? Shouldn't low-health folks (like me) stay behind?" Unless we're going to get healing, that is.

Then I looked at the closed side of Mancatcher Cove. It's one of those blankedty-blank locations that maintains its evil power even when closed.

So, yes - I'm down with this plan.

Scarab Sages

Plan works for me

Moving vs Being Moved: Choosing to move along with the commander of the ship counts as a normal move. The only real mechanical difference between you choosing to move vs you being forced to move by an effect that I can think of right now is that forced movement might result in you staying put, whereas if you choose to move you always have to change locations. Powers that happen on movement generally happen regardless of if the movement is forced.

Timing: Slot 2 (the Assault on Absalom special) was moved back to its original time, October 1st. That means we have just a few more weeks to wrap up this table in case anyone here is planning on playing any of their characters from this table in the special. If nobody here is playing in the special with the characters from this table, then we can continue through the special. However, I'll be giving the special my top priority in terms of box running so updates may be more sporadic here during that time.

Chronicle Sheets: I'm going to try to get your chronicle sheets to you as soon as I can after we finish the adventure. You'll receive it via a PM on the paizo forums as a link to a PDF. Please download the PDF locally and maybe also print a copy of it; the link I'll be sharing will expire after a month or two.

Boons: If you win a boon, you'll be contacted by Hawkmoon (probably) via a PM on the paizo forums with a link to the boon download. Please be patient, it may take a while to be distributed.

Aftermath: After Gameday VII is over, you'll have the option of continuing on if you so wish, or dropping out. I'm willing to run this table all the way through the end of the season. As long as at least 3 people wish to continue on I can continue the table.

STR d8 | DEX d8 (Disable +2; Stealth +2; Acro +2 w/ Quang) | CON d8 (Fort +2 w/ Norge) | INT d4 | WIS d6 | CHA d8 (Diplo +2; Percep +2 w/ Viridio)

Thanks for the update. I'll be using Radovan in the Absalom special.

Scarab Sages

Thanks for the update. i won't be playing Yoon in the special, so she can keep playing :-)

Looking to update in the 7pm EDT timeframe. I know I am just posting up, but seeing as how I've neglected the boon-grabbing and I am holding Augury, I was going to try to pull something a la Nate.

Female Human (Bl3or4) | 3 Die Bumps | My Deck Handler Tier 4 Troublemaker Bard / UC (12789-1002)

Options on blessings and other resources:
Yoon has at least 1 blessing and will likely have more since his turn is up. Radovan can use whatever blessings Yoon acquires along with Black Spot from Balazar.
Bekah has 2d8+2d4+2 for DC8 (using blessing, Dilettante, and inspire). Roll has been done and added as spoiler
Celeste takes 3d8+3 for Knowledge DC 7 (using 2 blessings and 1 remaining)
Kasmir takes 3d10+1d4+1 for INT DC 8 (using 2 blessing from Balazar and Bekah's Fox)
Balazar auto succeeeds temp close using good Omen.
Celeste has one blessing that can then be used for Radovan or possibly one of the other temp closes.

With respect to 5 structural damage, Balazar has 2 cards for damage (sages journal and amulet of life), Kesmir has 1 (caltrops or something else), Bekah has 1 (wakizashi), and Yoon has 1 (tbd).

Female Human (Bl3or4) | 3 Die Bumps | My Deck Handler Tier 4 Troublemaker Bard / UC (12789-1002)

Important to note that this distribution doesn't take into account the limit of each character contributing 1 blessing/check. Once Yoon goes then it will be easier to figure whose blessings is being used by whom.

Female Lunar Naga Tier 1 Sorcerer

Celeste can pitch 1 or 2 cards for Structural damage.

Yoon's closing will require 5 structural damage, not 4, since Celeste is at Tempest Cay (as I think others have noted).

STR d8 | DEX d8 (Disable +2; Stealth +2; Acro +2 w/ Quang) | CON d8 (Fort +2 w/ Norge) | INT d4 | WIS d6 | CHA d8 (Diplo +2; Percep +2 w/ Viridio)

I can also do 2 for structural damage. So we've got that covered.

Feel free to post temp closes in gameplay thread. Bekah's is complete. Looks like we have a ton of blessings available.

STR d8 | DEX d8 (Disable +2; Stealth +2; Acro +2 w/ Quang) | CON d8 (Fort +2 w/ Norge) | INT d4 | WIS d6 | CHA d8 (Diplo +2; Percep +2 w/ Viridio)

Note: We won! Celeste's temp close auto-succeeds w/ 3 blessings.

I snooze a few hours, and y'all go off and win the scenario. :)

Good job, everyone.

NOW* the real work begins.

I'm bidding for Celeste to use the Tricorne for 2-D because: someone has to take Shark Island. Every single shark is actually a ship, and number of these ships have Wis/Survival 10 checks. With the Tricorne in hand, Celeste consistently rolls 2d8+4 for Survival. That's going to beat most of those ships without costing the party a blessing.

*Well, after deck rebuilding.

Congrats! I'll have locations for the next scenario up shortly. In the meantime, it's time for deck upgrades and rewards :)

Female Lunar Naga Tier 1 Sorcerer

Boon roll: Woah! Skizzerz got it!

Boon: 1d20 ⇒ 8

I'm waiting for Zalarian's take on the 2D Tricorne usage, as Bekah took it for 2C, and there's a case that Bekah could be able to use it repeatedly for other characters at her location.

Question for skizzerz (and also anyone knowledgable): my Ultimate Magic deck just arrived. As I have not been using an Ultimate deck (just the Pathfinder Tales deck Celeste came with), can I immediately add Ultimate Magic to my box and start using it for deck upgrades?

If so, I will. Thanks.

Depending on the answer, I may well be interested in:
Spell 1
Blessing B/C
Ally 2
not necessarily in that order.

As an aside, I have some rules questions about the upcoming scenario (0-2D). Is it non-villain monsters that get replaced by ships, or non-villain/non-henchmen monsters that get replaced? I thought it was the former, but this scenario may have evolved over time.

Notes and questions: (assuming henchmen *are* replaced with ships)

Hammerhead sharks can't be evaded, but I assume that the ships that replace them *can* be evaded. So, with Quang, presumably Radovan can evade summoned ships at will at Shark Island (start of turn effect). Is that right?

When a monster from a location deck is replaced with a ship, what happens to the original monster? Is it banished? If so, Radovan can evade any old monster/ship, and the monster disappears forever. Just making sure that is the correct interpretation of the scenario rules.

Scarab Sages

So we might have a possible negotiated solution
W1 - Yoon,
W2 - Bekah
BB - Celeste
S1 - Kasimir

Radovan & Balazar - one with an ally 2 and one with an Ally 1

Is that workable for people?

The power is "When you would encounter a non-villain monster, banish it and roll 1d8 on the table below; summon and encounter that ship (listed on the next page) instead."

As long as your power allows you to evade ships or evade encounters in general, it will work. As ships are not banes, powers which only let you evade banes will not let you evade ships.

The shark's powers don't apply because it is never encountered.
