I have the same question. Also, *when* do you roll the 1d8? Can you play a spell (e.g. for a combat), resolve the combat, and *then* roll the 1d8 to see the impact? Or do you have to roll the 1d8 immediately, before the result of playing the spell is known? Or is your choice?

Also, everyone please note Ezren's new power feat: "When another character acquires a boon, that character may banish it to draw 1 random non-Basic (i.e. not level 0)boon of that type from the box." This doesn't require being at the same location, so basically all scenario, anytime someone (besides Ezren himself) acquires a boon, if they don't particularly want it they can take a chance on drawing something better.

I'm getting clarification on the scenario power and will update you here and on discord once I have a definitive answer :)

How it worked pre-Core is that you would roll the d8 immediately (in most cases), before resolving any of the effects of the spell. So you would not know the result of the combat, and a scourge could potentially impact said combat if you rolled a 1 and chose to suffer a scourge. Meanwhile rolling an 8 could get rid of a scourge that's making the combat harder for you before making the combat check.


After consulting the VOs, we're going to run the scenario power as follows:

Ok, so just to clarify, that happens *before* you resolve the effects of the spell?


And also just to clarify, that means a d8 on non-proficient spells as well? Since with all the extra spells this scenario, I’d be surprised if Seoni and Ezren don’t wind up acquiring and casting any Divine-only spells, and in that case burying instead of banishing to recovery would become a benefit.

Yes, in most cases. It happens whenever you’re instructed to banish the spell and you are proficient with it. Most spells have you banish it as the first thing that happens when you play the card (note that the conversion guide modifies pre-Core spells to banish as well). Other spells may have you do something else first (such as display), and then banish it later.

Ah, okay. I had thought that everything went into a recovery pile when played. And then during at the end of turn, everything left in the recovery pile (ie what you don't have a skill/power for) then got banished.
