GM Kate |
Hey, hey! It's a while til we get started, but I figured you all might want to discuss characters.

I'm Hiding In Your Closet |
For Tier 5-9, at present, I've potentially got...
Presently Free:
Monk 8
Alchemist 9
Likely Free Soon:
Cavalier 7
aspiring Arcane Archer 8
Illusionist 8
Unlikely Free Soon:
Cleric 6
Sorcerer 8
Uncertain:
Occultist 5
Bard 6
GM Kate |
I refuse to consider the title of the scenario a spoiler, so do consider underwater capability when choosing your character! This is a Concordance scenario if anyone has a Concordance PC in tier.
I'm Hiding In Your Closet |
I refuse to consider the title of the scenario a spoiler, so do consider underwater capability when choosing your character!
Excellent point. That narrows it down to the:
- Monk (PRO: strong, unencumbered swimmer, light on needs CON: meager Constitution even with an enhancement bonus, no underwater survival magic or other tricks, one of her Qigong powers will be inhibited, inflicts bleeding wounds that might court dangerous sorts of attention, Punishing Kicks and tripping might not be as good, do unarmed strikes suffer underwater?)
- Cavalier (PRO: okay Constitution, lance and ranged weapons won't suffer underwater, some experience mucking about in sea caves and sunken ships, Mount is a strong swimmer, and so is he - even in full plate, because MITHRIL, baybee! He is Don Dunkleosteus! CON: Greatsword WILL suffer underwater, charging might be harder/less glorious, no helpful underwater magic - yet)
- Archer (PRO: armed to the teeth with piercing weapons, able swimmer, Survival skill, particularly navigation, plenty of seaworthy practical magic, Prescience helps with damn-near anything, is presently adventuring in the Plane of Water itself and so is definitely the "experience candidate" CON: inferior Constitution, bow will suffer attack penalties, kukri sidearm will suffer damage penalty, helpful Abjuration spells won't be much good for him, proclivity for Evocation will face more limits than normal)
- Illusionist (PRO: Illusion magic is no less powerful underwater, knows helpful aquatic spells and has scrolls with more, crossbow should work mostly fine, racial magic could help deter sharks and such, REALLY GOOD at evading sight CON: crummy swimmer without magic, cane will be an even more pitiful weapon than usual, unexceptional Constitution when it comes to holding breath, needing to hold his breath is generally a serious impediment, helpful Conjuration spells won't be much good for him)
- Bard (PRO: able swimmer, no armor check penalty whatsoever, shortbow won't suffer too much, has a few underwater survival goodies, racial magic could help deter sharks and such, Shadow Puppeteer's art has little to fear underwater, experienced pirate! CON: mediocre Constitution, longsword will suffer, knows only one tricky-to-use spell that can help with aquatic conditions)
- Alchemist (PRO: all kinds of useful alchana, exceptionally good at removing annoying painful fishhooks, Mutagen will be useful no matter which sort, weapons are both piercing and enchanted with something other than fire, having no truck with incantations lets him utilize his marvels while holding his breath, Frost Bombs prevail where fire fails, reanimates enemies in a state that doesn't fear drowning - or most anything else - CON: normally a mediocre swimmer, typical Elven Constitution when it comes to holding breath, reanimation serum takes 1 hour to work and may be a strain on some underwater survival spells)

For me:
Shaman (Heavens)--Useful utility caster, doesn't need to breath, has Heaven's Leap to make movement a little easier on the team, flexible spell list and wandering spirit.
Slayer--Nice spread of skills, strong swimmer, trapfinding. Hatpins (her primary weapons) aren't hindered underwater. Will need a hand breathing underwater.
Skald--Primary combat shtick (melee claws, raging) not hindered underwater. No ability to breath underwater and pretty group-dependent on the utility of raging song.
On balance, if we need a caster, I'd go for shaman; if we need melee I'll go slayer.
Z...D... |
I'd Prefer to bring my ninth level Life Oracle Zavita-Very capable healer. She has a high UMD so if I need to cast from a scroll or wand, pretty good chance I'll succeed. Can not breath under water. But a scroll easily fixes that the problem.
I do have a dwarf tower shield fight..but I do not want him going under water. He may not resurface.
My elf magus would be an okay choice but is only level 5, so not really that useful yet.
PJP |
I have only 5 in tier.
Henrick Bulwark Dwarf Ranger (Infiltrator) 6
Sifvery Moon Elf Sorcerer 4 / Paladin 2
Farin "Fuzzfoot" Hogan Halfling Empiricist Investigator 3 / Alchemist 2
Inira McCullagh Half-Elf Qinggong Zen Archer Monk 5
Emmett Lathrop Human Gunslinger 4 / Brawler 1 - currently in a very slow moving game, so probably unavailable.
My intention was to bring the Zen archer Monk, but am happy to substitute. None of these are really water-ready, but the monk has 5k in cash, so could probably find something to help.

I'm Hiding In Your Closet |
High would definitely be better for me, since my best choices are all there.
Ammensura Ibn Jad |
If we are playing high I would probably bring my name finder ancestors shaman. He can prep ride the waves for people. General utility and control caster who summons fake kyras to hit the enemy (spiritual guardians).
Tinkapinelle Bly |
Sounds like, so far:
Life oracle 9
Shaman (name finder) 8
Ranger/warpriest 6(maybe?)
Slayer/investigator 8 (This is the character I'm thinking of.)
Ammensura Ibn Jad |
Ammen is level 9 I just haven't updated his profile yet. I may end up bringing my 8 Psychic assuming he survives his next few games. Both have freedom of movement to help with swimming but Ammen also has access to ride the waves as a longer lasting alternative.
Ammensura Ibn Jad |
OK, it looks like Ammensura is up to date.
Greymore |
So the only two I have in range that are available are both 9.
Vex= Wayang Fighter 1/investigator(empiricist)3/unchained rogue 3/shadowdancer 2
First and foremost Vex thinks of himself as a devout follower of Pharasma. He has some decent knowledge skills and excellent stealth(hide in plain sight), perception and disable device skills. He can function well in most environments but I should spend some coin to give him better underwater versatility.
Braxus= (UC)barbarian 4/bloodrager 1/brawler 1/two-handed fighter 3
Braxus is front line combatant, with a big earth breaker for his favored weapon. Not the most effective to take into an underwater battle, but he has enough coin that he might be able to fix that.
Braxus Ironheart |
Looks like Braxus will be coming along, as Vex has another engagement(Bonekeep #3! He's done 1 and 2 already and finally gets to complete the series).
He picked up some cheap underwater goggles and a scroll of freedom of movement(always a good spell to have around) as well as a wand of touch of the sea(stashed in one of his spring loaded wrist sheathes). The big purchase he took was a shark tooth amulet that should let him be much more effective under water, and he has had a few times that would have been handy.
He really prefers to use his earthbreaker, otherwise he could have just used his brawler ability to get Aquatic Combatant with his fists or a slashing weapon.
Zavita |
Zavita is ready. I will be purchasing a couple of items.
Scroll of Water breathing: 375gp
Scroll of Freedom of Movement: 700gp
Diamond Dust: 100gp
I do have a single casting of breath of life in my gauntlets if needed. With that purchase, I have 1000gp total worth of diamond dust for restoration if needed.
Do not hesistate to ask for the big casting if needed...I get a check in the box for using it.
SOP: Life link for everyone. Then hang back and be a HP sponge and ranged support. I do not buff much more than that. I am not sure how much my fire spells are going to be in this one, but if they are evil, I can still hurt them. If some how I end up in close range, I cast shield of faith on myself.
I'm Hiding In Your Closet |
Well then, it looks like either my Illusionist or my Alchemist - I hope nobody objects overmuch to the latter being the 'life' of the party!
Zavita |
GM/Author forgot to mention, I did run this about a month ago..
GM Kate |
Thanks for the heads up, Zavita! Just avoid being at the forefront of decision-making.
Ammensura Ibn Jad |
I missed that Ammen starts each scenario with a free scrol of level 1-3. He will pick up a scroll of Heroism.
Henrick Bulwark |
Sorry I am late. Was not able to check in the last few days, but catching up now. I think I will be bringing Henrick here to the party. I have some cash, so might be making a purchase or two before the start if that's ok.
Otherwise, he is good to go.
Sihir Aneh |
TERRIBLY sorry about the long delay, but in addition to struggling with choice of character, I've got my fingers in a lot of pies right now, and I've been out and about all day.
I could spend Prestige for a scroll of water breathing, but given that I'm a little bit weak on Prestige relative to my Fame, and my cash situation is worse by far, I really am hoping I can have scribe somebody else's scroll, or better yet, study another's spellbook for it.
I will certainly have need for it, as wizardry is otherwise a particularly difficult pursuit underwater - but it looks like a Wizard is something you need!
GM Kate |
I haven't been able to get on much myself with the site issues, so you didn't hold anything up! Fingers crossed that those issues are resolved...
GM Kate |
We’re back! I’ll get back to posting this evening, but feel free to get back into the game!
Ammensura Ibn Jad |
I liiiiiiiiivvvveee!
GM Kate |
Quick, quick! While it’s up! Can folks please send me an email at northbaypfs@gmail.com so we can coordinate if the site goes down again?
GM Kate |
You're all moving fast, so I think that we'll finish by October 1st anyway, but just for my information, is anyone playing their character in a Gameday Session 2 game?
Ammensura Ibn Jad |
Nope, not this character.
Henrick Bulwark |
I am ok if we run late.
Henrick Bulwark |
I am going to be travelling Sept 20-23. I might occasionally get to check in and post an update, but for the most part I will not be online. Please feel free to bot me using whatever disposable resources I have.
Tinkapinelle Bly |
I'm good with this character even if we go over. (Posting to gameplay soon!)
Zavita |
Same...after playing in a previous game days, I have avoided double booking that close together.
GM Kate |
We should be finished in the next couple of days! Could I please get factions, day job rolls, and anything else I need to know for chronicle sheets?

So Zavita threw a big party and Sihir brought some amazing toys along for everyone to play with. Braxus brought plenty of beer for everyone, though it wasn't his best batch it was still very good and Ammen sat in a corner reading a book for much of the evening. The party went so well that Nellie absolutely had to report on the entire thing.
