Booker's shot shatters the drone. A second later Xix slumps unconscious in Dunklezahn's arms. It seems, finally, that the path off this moon is clear.

For defeating Xix and her mechanical back up the party earns 9,600 XP.

"Stupid," Booker grunts, looking down at the unconscious ysoki. "Just stupid." He rifles through her things, taking any weapons or items of value.

"Let's see how well she gets along wi' th'Jangly man," he says, striding up to the Maiden's airlock.

"Hey there, Cultist Prisoner 1, hope you're enjoyin' yer stay. Meet Cultist Prisoner 2. I'm sure you've got lots to catch up on when she's awake," Booker says cheerfully, as Dunk puts Xix down next to the Jangly Man in the Auxiliary Airlock. "Brought another MRE for ya, and we'll bring meals by regular-like for a bit," he adds, tossing in another packet and sealing the door.

"Alright, let's get off this rock."

    As Booker starts pre-flight, Osteth comes over your comms:

    “My new friends, with much time over the past few days in my confinement to think, I have come to a difficult conclusion. The Stellar Degenerator must be destroyed. Even if this Cult of the Devourer were defeated this day, there is no guarantee the location of the Gate of Twelve Suns will stay hidden. The sivv superweapon cannot be trusted with any people, no matter how peaceful and well intentioned they might be.” She grows somber for a moment. “Though the events happened before I was born, I heard tales of when the kishalee used the Degenerator to ‘pacify’ a terrible enemy that threatened us with obliteration, and the results convinced my people to hide the weapon away.”

    Osteth’s image disappears, and the entire room is filled with a holographic display of an unknown solar system. Her voice continues. “Some were killed instantly, caught in the energy transference beam when the Stellar Degenerator turned their sun into a black dwarf.” The hologram shows a ray of light streaking in from outside of the system and hitting the sun. This tether pulses with energy, tearing apart starships and even moons in its general vicinity. “Those were the lucky ones. Within a week, temperatures across the system dropped to below freezing, and with no sun to sustain it, plant life began to die shortly thereafter.” The sun at the center of system shrinks and grows dark. Digital displays appear near each of the system’s ten planets, showing the decrease in temperature and light levels. “Hundreds of millions eventually starved to death or were killed in skirmishes ov[b]er food.” Another numerical display shows a rising death count. “The mass of the black dwarf wasn’t enough to keep its planets in orbit, and eventually, they started to drift outward, spinning erratically into the inky depths.”[/b] In the hologram, the orbits of the system’s frozen planets wobble, and the farthest world disappears off the map. “A terrible way for a people to go extinct.”

    Osteth reappears on the display. “So you can see why the Stellar Degenerator must be destroyed. But to do so, we must first open the gate.”

    Booker is quiet for a long time after Osteth's story, awed and shaken by the terrible power of the weapon they chase. He lights a cigarette and takes a few nervous puffs before taking a deep breath. "Hells yeah we're gonna destroy it. THAT'S what you built?! Thing's gotta go. How d'we open the gate?"

    "Ah. Yes. The gate. We need to release the degenerator so that it can be destroyed. The cultists need a control board before they can use it. The control board is the ONLY thing they need. Find the cultists, destroy them. Then you'll be the only ones here and nothing stops you from destroying the Weapon."

    "I am housed locally. The control center is, I believe located in the core of Control Moon 2. I would set my course for there forthwith. As to the question about charge, the Degenerator likely has an upper limit, but as far as I can tell that limit is ...far off. The weapon could be engaged immediately."

    "Let's get movin' then," Booker announces, firing the thrusters and pulling the ship into atmo.

    At some point when there is a lull, I want to take 10 minutes to recover SP.

    It'll take a bit to hit orbit. Remember, this system has gravity wells and complexities that will tear the Sunrise Maiden to pieces.

    Booker and the others take a moment to raid the snacks Dunk has prepared. Everyone catches their breath and even catches a quick nap. Before long though, it's off to the controller moon of Gate 2.

    Once everyone is ready, the party heads out. The constructed nature of the system means it's a short trip to get to the next moon. It's a good thing too because it's some of the most complex flying you'll see in a lifetime.

    Gig saunters over to the bridge and looks over Booker’s panel of lights and gauges. He gives an aid to his piloting.

    Booker gets the ship over with some masterful piloting. Upon arriving this controller moon seems.... like nothing more than a rock. There are no buildings. There is no sign of life. There's nothing, and that includes signs of the Desperate Hunger.

    Gig moves over and takes up the role of science officer and scans the region.

    Gig extracts some interesting information from the scan. The planetoid has no atmosphere and shows no signs of life. There are no obvious kishalee-made buildings like those on Gate 1’s controller moon, but there is a metal hatch—large enough for a Medium or smaller starship to fly through—in the planet’s surface near the equator, similar to where the control center on Gate 1’s controller moon was located. Gig reads that there is an underground complex (with a breathable atmosphere and full gravity) located deep within the planet. It looks like the hatch is proximity activated.

    Indeed, let's call the rest a full one.

    The hatch begins to open as soon as the Sunrise Maiden approaches revealing a tunnel illuminated by strips of lights. It takes Hours: 1d2 ⇒ 2 2 Piloting checks from Booker to fly into the hatch and through the tunnel to a spot where it branches off into three sets of hangar bay doors. A red light glows above the center door, while green lights shine above the other two doors. Which door do you approach?

    Booker maneuvers into the gate with aplomb, keeping the ship safe. He lands in the hanger and the party gets out to look around.

    A few particles of dust swirl within this cavernous hangar bay. Its walls are made of a smooth, unknown metal without a trace of rivets or seams. A set of ship-sized doors stands opposite a smaller pair of convex doors. Map updated

    Approaching the convex doors at one end of a hangar bay causes them to open automatically, revealing a large elevator car. Each of these hover lifts has simple controls on the inside: two blue lighted buttons aligned vertically.

    Booker chooses his weapon loadout before leaving the Maiden, selecting his artillery laser, cestus battleglove, and sintered longsword for carried armaments and storing the remainder in his null-space chamber.

    At the elevator, he shrugs. "Up first, I'guess." He punches the up button.

    Booker hits the button for the party's current floor, and the door opens again. So he snarls and hits the other button. The elevator kicks in smoothly as the party descends. It takes about 90 seconds to complete its trip, and it's hard to figure out how fare it's travelled.

    Eventually it stops and opens up. Smooth, gray walls and bright lighting accentuate the lack of corners in this entryway with a thirty-foot-high ceiling. The chamber opens onto a larger area just opposite a set of convex elevator doors. Almost immediately the party is pinned down by liquidator fire! They know you're coming!
