Why does he insist on running into danger like that...? Janzi muses, knowing the answer full well: to protect the rest of them.

He edges up, trying to stay adjacent to Dunk for if when he's needed, and looks to ID the beasties. Life Science: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20

Gig reels from the pain of the arrow that targets him. However, he’s not going to give away the hint that he hurts. Instead, he grits his teeth and carries on. He spends his time moving his hands in somatic gestures to draw forth the most powerful magic missile he can muster. He releases all three back at the kish in anger with a sharp command.

When Booker replies by calling Gig his engineer, he cannot help but smile.

Booker just barely hits the kish on the first shot. The wounds seems minor at best, and the fanatic seems ever more eager to fight. Try as the warrior might, he can't dodge Gig's triplet.

The quadrapeds leap into action. The one by Dunklezahn goes low, trying to yank the vesk off balance Trip: 1d20 + 13 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 13 + 4 = 22, but it's like uprooting a tree.

The other comes tearing down the lane to pounce on Dunklezahn. Just as it clears the hall, Janzi sows doubt into its mind Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Bite: 1d20 + 13 - 5 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 13 - 5 + 2 - 2 = 13

But again it's only a minor annoyance to the chef.

Hack-It moves to get line of sight, and then punches several commands into his wrist console to maneuver Hum. The drone's rifle attachment swivels, takes aim, and fires!

Hack-It checks the battery level for him and Hum. "Just wish there weren't so many of them."

The archaic weapons and armor are exquisite (axe, bow, and armor), but they are not magical. Gig pokes around a bit more and finds a stash of precious gems that could likely be exchanged for about 2,000 credits though.

The room produces nothing else of interest.

Booker swaps out the battery on his cannon (switching to a regular battery, out of the big ones sadly) and eyes the vesk licking his wounds. "Let's give Dunklezahn a chance t'catch his breath. Then there's a room back here I'd rather not leave unchecked."

Map updated. Once Dunk/Gig take 10 minutes to recover SP, I will open the door.

After a brief rest, the party back tracks a bit. Since nothing attacked while resting, the surmise it's safe.

These nearly identical offices were used by executives it seems. Nameplates are attached to the wall outside each office. Inside they appear to have been converted into meditation cells by the kish, each containing a simple woven mat and several crude bowls coated with dried up paint.

The southernmost office contains the body of a kish warrior. The corpse is burned in places, and two of its limbs are clearly broken.

The cause of death though appears to be drowning...

"Huh," Booker grunts. "Looks like he drowned. After bein' burnt an' broken, I guess."

After a moment, the soldier's dour face brights slightly. "Hm! Maybe he got into a fight with those elementals, an' the water one drowned 'im."

Booker checks the kish's armor and clothing for any tribal markings. Anyone else want to search the rooms more thoroughly than my +0 perception?

Gig finds an x-ray visor! The only thing is that it's set up for the four-eyed kish. Gig thinks wearing it might.... hurt. A FORT save to not get vertigo, but you think with a solid Engineering check and 1 hour that you could rig it for one of you.

After Gig has a little giggle, he checks the north to find that they're similarly empty offices. These too seem to now be meditation chambers.

Booker grunts. "Should search these too." Can someone with a positive mod do the searching?

After that is done with, Booker maneuvers the group over to the final door. "Last one. Buckle up. This's it."

He gives the others a chance to check over the door and make any necessary preparations, then opens the door. Map updated.

Somewhat anticlimactically, the room beyond is quiet and unassuming. A ten-foot-long table ringed by chairs occupies this room. The table is scored by hundreds of shallow gouges, seemingly at random. On the northern wall, a metal shutter closes off a five-foot-wide window. There is a small sign on the shutter, "Will return shortly."

What language is the sign written in?

No one ever returns shortly when the put up signs like that, Janzi says, moving into the room and, if it looks safe (take 10 for 23 on Perception), heading over to the shutter sign.

The sign is written in Kishalee.

Janzi looks about the room and finds nothing of note. Nothing except one thing. In the northern end of the room is a cleverly hidden door. It's clearly supposed to be locked, but time has taken its toll on the mechanism, and the door can be easily opened - you just have to know its there.

Shelves holding a staggering array of datapads line the walls and stand freely around this room. A small desk sits in front of a shuttered window adjacent to the room’s only entrance. A balcony holding even more shelves stretches across the eastern, western, and northern walls.

Speaking in a low tongue that Janzi can mostly translate, a kish on the balcony shouts out, "“I knew the ancestors would send further demons to test us. We were too weak and trusting at first, and many believed that you weren’t demons but messengers. But why would the ancestors send such strange and foul creatures as peaceful emissaries? And what news did you bring? Nothing besides death of good kish, defilement of our sacred spaces, and corruption of some of our finest minds. You clouded their eyes and made them think our way of life wasn’t under attack. I could see, though. I knew. When I send you back to the ancestors, you can tell them Xavra knows and he stands strong. I will always stand strong!”

Immediately the kish begins to attune to the universe as body guards move to intercept!
