As a player or a GM?

I'm toast from OGC this past weekend, and Gen Con next. Cosmic captive just dropped, and it's 110 pages long... Once Gen Con is over I'll be back to my normally overly eager self.

Also, my work internet was down this morning for about an hour (we had savage t-storms last night). Then they came back up for the office...except for my computer which stubbornly refuses to find the network. Yay for technology!

Still down as of now. I've literally nearly run out of things to do without email or network drives. I shoulda stayed at home.

I am among the several (most?) in this game that are going to GenCon this week. I'm buried in prep and posting will sporadic or non-existent until next Tuesday.

I am not going, so screw y'all.

GM -- In the interest of speeding this along through the mansion's many doors and hallways, can we use this?

Standard Door Opening Procedure
1. Achmed casts detect magic on the door (and area beyond, as applicable).
2. Endar, Mordenaar, and Valgrim all run Perception checks for traps.
3. Kinn casts detect evil on the door (and area beyond, as applicable).
4. Mordenaar and Endar flank the door, Achmed and Valgrim stand back.
5. Kinn opens the door.

In addition, can we say that unless pressed for time, Endar and Valgrim make checks for traps every 20 feet along a hallway or room?

Generally speaking, I'm fine assuming at Take 10 when applicable unless specified otherwise, but not with rolling dice for PCs. That's equal parts not knowing every little thing about your character and not being particularly interested in running a storytelling session.

At the same time, I prefer to give players time to contribute rather than assuming what they do, knowing full well that Real Life [tm] interferes sometimes. (That's certainly my own baggage surfacing there; when you don't like it done to you, you endeavor to not do it to others.)

All very fair. Can we say Take 10 on the SDOP and hallway checks? I'm comfortable with this if the others are.

My case for a SDOP is that we should be doing the same thing on every door anyway (unless we're in a real rush), and you'd ultimately be waiting for Endar to post that he's checking the door for traps, which you already knew.

I'm back! The race was awesome, but exhausting; physically, mentally, and emotionally. It's good to be back and NOT be training for something. I ate so much pizza, beer, and ice cream that I could barely move...
