Vojtek Wartooth |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Vojtek's draconic heart quickens with lust for the displayed trove, but his stoicism wins out.
Davosh however is having none of it. The wiry and proud barbarian endures the Speaker-With-the-Ancestors' rough handling of Vojtek's hands and crude measurement of the circumference of his head with what could be interpreted as abject terror...
Davosh suggests, "This young man needs a Headband of Havoc or perhaps a pair of Gauntlets of the Weaponmaster... Surely you could bring him those! Eh?"
Davosh very nearly unleashes The Eye at the blue skinned outsider, so intense is that final 'Eh' and Vojtek visibly relaxes when Davosh's attention swivels away from his person.
Davosh the Wanderer |
"Ha! Unless you're willing to let that staff go for FAR FAR less, I'm sorry we don't have an accord. I'm happy to wait though."
GM thunderspirit |
Oh, my goodness, no, Zilvazaraat the Magnificent says to Davosh. I'm afraid this staff belonged to my best friend’s sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who got it from 31 Flavors last month. It's pretty serious.
He does consider the request Davosh has for Vojtek. Hmm, he says, pursing his blue mercane lips and drumming his three fingers in thought. I can probably source that for you, human. It will take 1d4 of your Golarion days to do so, however.
GM thunderspirit |
Well, now, Zilvazaraat the Magnificent replies thoughtfully, that will all depend on what lengths I need to go through to get it. More trouble, more cost, you see. It's simple economics.
Now, it's not my job to speculate... wait, hold on now, I guess it is my job to speculate, on what someone will buy and/or sell! Aren't I caught with my hand in the cookie jar just now! ...were I to speculate, and I suppose I am, I'd guess that would run about 9000 of your gold pieces. Or something equivalent in trade, of course.
Vojtek Wartooth |
Vojtek looks pointedly at Edward, waiting for some silver-tongued negotiation action. 9,000 GPs seems high...
Davosh the Wanderer |
Hey guys. I have to cry uncle here. I'm juggling too much at the moment. I think the plan should be:
1. Someone calculate a correct sale amount and party distribution.
2. Edward sweet talk this guy.
Kappi Matarito |
I'll post for Joe/Edward. Unless I'm looking at it wrong I don't think we have much to sell. Mike/Ali needs to chime in on that. He has been keeping track of it.
Silver tongued Edward pats Vojtek on the shoulder and steps in to haggle. My good man, I'm sure you can get a better price for our trusty Northman. The paladin now pauses and looks the trader in the eye. He emphasizes this next We were the ones to rescue you from that soul crushing prison...
Diplomacy 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (17) + 17 = 34
GM thunderspirit |
Ah! Well stated, well stated! Zilvazaraat the Magnificent responds. For friends of ZILVAZARAAT THE MAGNIFICENT, we have a small discount!
Now, normally such a discount would be half off the double list price -- but because I like you lot, I'll offer, shall we say, 10%?
Vojtek Wartooth |
Vojtek attempts to give Ed some AIDS: "The prison you were in... was it horrible? Perhaps we can hunt and slay the one who imprisoned you?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (14) - 2 = 12
Kappi Matarito |
Kappi brings the party back to whisper amongst themselves. I know his type. This is probably the best deal we are going to get. I'm more than willing to pitch my gold in for the group. I think we need the elemental fire gem. That crazy headband would make Vojtek even more of a force to be reckoned with. Lets do this.
Vojtek Wartooth |
Vojtek nods and looks around for the next creature to kill. Moving on.......
GM thunderspirit |
With a list in place [ooc](see the post here), Zilvazaraat the Magnificent departs via his plane shift SLA, letting you know he will return to the Hut in three days' time.
Kappi leads the party into a dense grove of coniferous trees, where deep shadows cloak the barren soil. A twisting, disused trail winds its way into the depths of the wood.
Kappi Matarito |
The rogue swiftly moves back to his comrades to report. So... There is this giant tree guy in the clearing up ahead, uhh... The lad's face looks a little worried. I think he will be tough to fight if we have to.
Vojtek Wartooth |
Vojtek asks plainly, "Do we have to?". Discretion often being the better part of HP maintenance, if skipping is an option Vojtek supports the idea.
Alas... it looks like from Kappi's description that there are doors and a portion of unmapped area that way.
Vojtek tightens his grip on his massive blade and pads softly into position behind the lad.
"I'm ready little brother." the barbarian whispers.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Ali blinks. Prudence, Vojtek? From YOU??? I never thought I'd see the day!! She laughs briefly, then gets serious, drawing her own great, but delicate, blade. She gives a nod.
GM thunderspirit |
I'm fine if you want to skip the encounter. Up to y'all.
Edward W.Fell |
Ed raises and eye brow and chuckles to Ali’s declaration. Remember we left one problem behind on our last stop, so do we leave some sort of protector here when we step out or not? If this manifestation of the hut is anything like it is on the outside we may need to rest before we exit, we might not get another chance for awhile.
Davosh the Wanderer |
"Sadly, I think foregoing the place beyond is not an option my friend."
Edward W.Fell |
No Davosh I'm not saying to forgo our current place, I'm saying just asking do we take a rest before we exit the hutt. Also do we deal with the last remaining opposition inside? Points at remaining plant enemy.
Davosh the Wanderer |
"Yes. We have to get in there. Definitely. Definitely. Forsooth."
GM thunderspirit |
Plants are not immune to sneak attack, correct.
I reached out to Davosh and Vojtek this morning (sorry I forgot you on the message, Ali!) and, presuming their life is calmed down enough to continue, I just need the party to make a decision and we can get rolling again.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Back-ish. My posts will be a bit laconic, but back. Let's do this. Get in there! [b]"Oh Ancients, bless the kerfuffle we're about to commence![/ooc] Davosh casts a spell of Bless.
GM thunderspirit |
I'll let that trigger initiative. I moved people on the map.
As the party reaches the grove, a sickly, overgrown ash tree, with tangled drooping branches jutting out at peculiar angles and malignant knots disfiguring its trunk shouts. Trespassers! This is my home! Why are you treading on my ground?
I'm going to rule that Kappi's description before was enough for Davosh to know this:
This is a treant, a Huge creature with plant traits.
Davosh: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Edward: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Kappi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Vojtek: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
baddies: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Round 1
Kappi — GO
Ali — GO
baddies — TBD
Davosh — TBD
Vojtek — TBD

The creature does not appear to see Kappi, so he can treat his action this round as being invisible.
Davosh the Wanderer |
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31 "Axes and flames! Axes and flames!"
Davosh eyes the treant, "There's something wrong with its.... brain? Whatever trees have." Check to see if there's something we can do?
GM thunderspirit |
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
[dice=Knowledge (Nature)]d20+16 "Axes and flames! Axes and flames!"
...I can do that!
Ali's blade, already out, erupts into flames.
Enchant blade to Flame Burst
Davosh eyes the treant, "There's something wrong with its.... brain? Whatever trees have." Check to see if there's something we can do?
she shrugs.
She then casts HASTE on the party.
Kappi Matarito |
Round 1
Unseen the lad slips forward with his trusty magic short sword. Half a heart beat to seek the best spot to strike, then SLASH!
Move and attack
attack 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 14 + 1 = 28
+1 sh sword 1d6 + 7 + 5d6 ⇒ (6) + 7 + (1, 3, 6, 4, 1) = 28
if takes sneak attack damage then is Bewildered:
for 1 round baddie has a -2 AC vs the party, and a -4 AC vs Kappi
assuming the attack hits, Kappi uses his Repositioning Attack
The rogue hesitates almost too long and jukes left then he leaps and rolls and comes up behind the treant.
GM thunderspirit |
Ali powers up her blade and quickens the party, while Kappi makes good on his stealth, though he finds that his short sword has a tough time stabbing through the bark! Damage reduction applied.
The massive tree-person, enraged, shouts threats and insults, drifting from tongue to tongue.
Able to see the young Varisian now, the treant lashes at Kappi with a pair of massive boughs!
slam 1 vs. AC 25: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (12) + 22 = 34

slam 2 dmg: 2d8 + 15 ⇒ (1, 7) + 15 = 23
Both land on Kappi's midsection, and the lad coughs up blood as he feels several ribs crack under the blows!

RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
3 people marked this as a favorite. |
- Round the First
- Current HPs: 129/129
Vojtek has had an uneasy relationship with trees since he first encountered them, and this puts the final nail in the coffin. He finds himself once again longing for the uninterrupted sight lines of the Tundra at the Edge of the Ice.
With a growl of displeasure that intensifies at the abuse Kappi is taking, Vojtek charges!
Great Axe: 1d20 + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 = 27 for Damage: 1d12 + 12 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 12 + 9 + 1 = 31

AoO vs. AC 20: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (2) + 22 = 24

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |
Ali is becoming a little more savvy. She gambles on the hope that this insulting sapling's combat reflexes aren't that high (how dextrous can a tree be??), and takes advantage of both the magical Haste and her Feather Step Slippers to rush through the woods and establish a flank with vojtek, so Kappi can withdraw if he needs to.
She then takes a mighty swing with her blade, upping the fire a little more arcane point for elemental Strike: fire
attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
damage: 1d10 + 5 + 5d6 ⇒ (6) + 5 + (4, 6, 4, 4, 3) = 32 <--21 fire

Round 1
The bough doesn't break but Kappi's ribs do. Ed might need to remind the lad to wait till Vojtek attacks before he unleashes his sneaky stabbity against such an intimidating foe. Still the oradin strides foward to get Mr. Matarito in range. As the life force flows out of him to heal Kappi and Vojtek, Ed sends one of Apsu's stranger blessings to the lad.
Move in range, Standard: Cast Shield Other

RAGING VOJTEK!!!! |
- Round the Second
- Current HPs: 129/129
Lighting! Flames! Vojtek is pleased the ancestors hate the tree as much as he does. It feels right somehow to continue his rage fuelled assault with his axe. The grim barbarian even tears at an errant branch with his teeth!
Great Axe: 1d20 + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 = 32 for Damage: 1d12 + 12 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 12 + 9 = 24

And Wartooth Gnash!: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 12 + 2 + 1 = 31 for Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8.
And for good measure he takes advantage of his quickened reflexes and hastily hacks at the tree yet again.
Great Axe: 1d20 + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 18 - 3 + 2 + 1 = 32 for Damage: 1d12 + 12 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 12 + 9 = 24

Vojtek's axe fells the tree!
Out of combat! The lightning bolt and Ali's flame were big difference-makers there!
DC 22 Spellcraft:

Vojtek Wartooth |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Vojtek sits down with his chest heaving and glances around with little success.
Kappi Matarito |
You can see Ali was absolutely rocked by the treant...
The Varisian lad is also pretty banged up from the tree.
Perhaps Kappi is less than observant with half his ribs stove in
