Markolf Crowley |
I'm assuming that Kirana has the darkness/void disc in Markolf's pathfinder pouch and he has the other disc in his haversack
GM thunderspirit |
15' reach with the tails, even when grappled by boxed text.
Incidentally, this encounter can be much more deadly in the low tier. :-|
Kirana |
Gotcha. Kirana has one in a borrowed Pathfinder pouch. Meaning she'll have to exit wild shape to get at it. Oh fun :)
Caduceus Via |
I just want to remind everyone that Bless is in effect (+1 to attack rolls & saves vs fear). Not certain if that was calculated into any attack/confirmation rolls. Let's go get him/her/it!!
Jaysin Deckert |
To confirm, yes, I did include Bless but thanks for the reminder as I had to go look.
Jhalan |
In my haste to post I completely forgot to take bless into account. Thanks for the reminder! I also forgot to use my Study ability as a swift action. Is it possible to still do it, since the effects of my attacks aren't resolved, please? That would be an extra +2 to hit and damage.
GM thunderspirit |
Jhalan: yes, I'll let you retroactively study this time; that's your one "mulligan" for this game, though. With the +2 and the bless, the crit still doesn't confirm. Also:
Precision damage (such as from a rogue's sneak attack class feature) and additional damage dice from special weapon abilities (such as flaming) are not multiplied when you score a critical hit.
Jhalan's blow hits, but even with the special properties of Slitherbane, he feels like his strike should have dealt more damage!
The snake-thing struggles against the mighty grip of the monolith, but Jaysin and Jhalan have certainly gotten its attention!
tail slap 1 vs. Jaysin: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37
tail slap confirm? vs. Jaysin: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
dmg: 4d8 + 8 ⇒ (6, 5, 5, 3) + 8 = 27 plus free grab attempt
grab vs CMD (plus fountain bonus): 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (8) + 34 = 42
It fails to grapple Jaysin!
tail slap 2 vs. Jhalan: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (6) + 17 = 23
dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (7, 7) + 4 = 18 plus free grab attempt
grab vs CMD (plus fountain bonus): 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (15) + 34 = 49
It fails to grapple Jhalan!
tail slap 3 vs. Jhalan: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (5) + 17 = 22
dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6 plus free grab attempt
grab vs CMD (plus fountain bonus): 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (7) + 34 = 41
It fails to grapple Jhalan!
You guys are up!
Markolf Crowley |
Is Markolf able to identify the spell equivalent of the two discs in the room (or at least relative brightness of the three stones)?
Spellcraft (best of two): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33
Spellcraft (best of two): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (12) + 16 = 28
GM thunderspirit |
Sure, one is clearly brighter than the other. (Keep the last use there, if you want.)
Markolf Crowley |
Trying to figure out which is sun, moon and stars. Is the one we already have lighter, dimmer, or in between the other two discs?
Caduceus Via |
I am SO glad we drank the water. Swift action to switch the lifelink from Amenhotep to Jaysin. Standard to channel. 5' step up to beastie.
The paladin steps forward and summons the healing nature of his Goddess.
Selective Channel: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 6, 1) + 1 = 9 Ugh! Are you kidding me? This has to get better.
"Oh my gods. It's a xacarba. It's an evil and chaotic extraplanar outsider. And it's more beautiful than I imagined."
"Does anyone have something to penetrate the hide of this beast??" Action economy sucked a bit this round. Will Smite Evil next round. Good or Holy weapons anyone?
BOOKEEPING
Jaysin and Jhalan both heal 5 HP, Caduceus takes 10 HP. Channel for 9 (lame). Jhalan at 50 HP, Jaysin at 40 HP, Caduceus at full HP.(heals back a total of 15 hp due to Fey Foundling). 6 channels remaining.
Not certain if I can "heal" the construct, but he/it was included in the channel. The Xa-cadabra was not.
GM thunderspirit |
Trying to figure out which is sun, moon and stars. Is the one we already have lighter, dimmer, or in between the other two discs?
The one you got from Arletta shines about as bright as torchlight.
One on the floor beneath the crack shines as bright as day.The other on the floor beneath the crack glows softly.
Does that help?
Kirana |
Summon Nature's Ally III: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Four small earth elementals appear, all adjacent to the xacarba. With a word spoken in Terran, they attempt to slam their fists into the creature.
Slam 1 w/Damage: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 1 + 2 = 271d6 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 Earth Mastery. Benefits from flanking
Slam 2 w/Damage: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 8 + 1 + 2 = 241d6 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 Earth Mastery. Benefits from flanking
Slam 3 w/Damage: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 1 = 131d6 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 Earth Mastery. No flanking, unless he can flank with the golem
Slam 4 w/Damage: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 1 + 2 = 251d6 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 Earth Mastery. Benefits from flanking
Kirana then attempts to cast Call Lightning defensively.
Concentration Check, DC 21: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
... and loses the spell. She then does a 5ft step down into the earth and towards the wall to the south.
GM thunderspirit |
I am SO glad we drank the water.
Yup.
Caduceus channels, opting to not heal the xacabra!
Kirana summons some elementals (all of whom can flank; I moved the last one on the map), who all attack but none can hit! She loses a spell while ducking a xacabra tail, then melds back into the ground, rethinking her life choices!
Jhalan, Jaysin, Markolf, and Amenhotep are up!
Jaysin Deckert |
Jaysin nods a bit of thanks for the healing. In replyu to the question, All I have are the arrows I brought with me, they'll have to do!
Bow: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32 for Manyshot: 2d8 + 24 ⇒ (7, 2) + 24 = 33
Bow: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19 for Arrow: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Bow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 for Arrow: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Outside of Bless we have no other buffs running, correct?
Markolf Crowley |
Markolf Crowley wrote:Trying to figure out which is sun, moon and stars. Is the one we already have lighter, dimmer, or in between the other two discs? The one you got from Arletta shines about as bright as torchlight.
One on the floor beneath the crack shines as bright as day.
The other on the floor beneath the crack glows softly.Does that help?
I hope so?
bright as torchlight = MOON
bright as day = SUN
glows softly = STARS
So Markolf will draw out the torchlight/MOON(?) disc from his Haversack and spend another Arcane Reservoir point (his last until he consumes more spells) to Dimensionally slide into place in the MOON space (marked on the map). I'll assume he can't place it until next turn (assuming he can figure out how to do so in the first place).
At this rate, it's going to take 4.5 more rounds to complete this. If anyone else wants to risk moving past the xacabra to speed things up they're welcome to do so.
Jhalan |
Thanks, GM!
Jhalan, fortified by Caduceus's benevolent presence, strikes at the Xacarba twice more.
Slitherbane, PA, Enlarge+, BS+, Study, Bless, Flank, Sneak Attack: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (12) + 21 = 332d8 + 23 + 2d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (3, 8) + 23 + (6, 2) + (3, 2) = 47
Iterative: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 222d8 + 23 + 2d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 23 + (1, 3) + (1, 5) = 45
Amenhotep of Wati |
"I will try to do General Akhentepi proud."
With a nod to Markolf and a gulp, Amenhotep attempts to duck through the creature's square.
Since it is three size categories larger, I should be able to freely move through its square (although the movement will provoke)(
GM thunderspirit |
Jhalan hits once!
Jaysin's Manyshot shot also hits!
Markolf considers the panels and wonders how to get them up to it. Finally he reaches over his head and slides the disc in; it doesn't seat quite right the first time, so he needs to trey again (full-round action, though I'll rule it only takes Markolf's Move action next round, not his Standard.)
Since it is three size categories larger, I should be able to freely move through its square (although the movement will provoke)(
Correct on both counts.
Amenhotep moves in on the snake quickly, but not quickly enough to avoid one of the thrashing tails!
tail AoO: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4) + 4 = 10
The monolith does not seem to mind Amenhotep moving through its square. (If that's a single move, Amenhotep can use his Standard as a Move if desired.)
Despite struggling with the monolith, the xacarba has figured out that Jhalan is a significant threat, and seeks to amend that!
tail slap 1 vs. Jhalan: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25
dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 8) + 4 = 14 plus free grab attempt
grab vs CMD (plus fountain bonus): 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (16) + 34 = 50
It fails to grapple Jaysin!
tail slap 2 vs. Jhalan: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33
dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 7) + 4 = 13 plus free grab attempt
grab vs CMD (plus fountain bonus): 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (20) + 34 = 54
It grabs Jhalan this time, and gives him a big ol' hug!
constrict: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 7) + 4 = 12
tail slap 3 vs. grappled Jhalan: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33
dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (8, 7) + 4 = 19
Jhalan slumps to the ground, deciding to take a little nap.
Ouch. Sorry, man.
You guys are up!
Kirana |
Kirana glides through the stonework, stopping under the earth where the Void panel is. That's a double move unfortunately
Markolf Crowley |
Once Markolf finishes slotting the disc, he looks regretfully at Jhalen's body. "I can rebuild him..."
Then he consumes a third level spell to replenish his Arcane Reservoir and spends a point to slide back to the discs.
Caduceus Via |
Swift action to Smite Evil, selective channel
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1, 2) + 1 = 6 Are you kidding me? maybe I should jump ship to Sarenrae.
Bookkeeping
Both Jaysin and Jhalan heal 5 HP (Jhalan stablizes), Caduceus takes 10. Afte the meager channel, Jaysin at 51 HP, Jhalan at 3 HP (sorry) and Caduceus is at full HP) AC now at 28.
Jaysin Deckert |
Jaysin continues with the arrows! Still adamantine if that matters.
Bow: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31 for Manyshot: 2d8 + 24 ⇒ (3, 8) + 24 = 35
Bow: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31 for Arrow: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Bow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 for Arrow: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
Kirana |
Oops, forgot to have my elementals take swings at the beast. Rolling now, if the GM allows it.
Elemental Slam 1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 131d6 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Elemental Slam 2: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 171d6 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Elemental Slam 3: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 221d6 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Elemental Slam 4: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 261d6 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
I'm pretty sure those are all misses anyhow...
Caduceus Via |
I can't tell if I have line of effect to Amenhotep, but if so, he was also healed by the channel for 6HP. 5 channels remaining.
GM thunderspirit |
Hmm, it doesn't look like it, no.
GM thunderspirit |
Jaysin has a pair of shot that hit!
Kirana has a quartet of elementals that don't!
Markolf and Kirana both move while Caduceus channels again!
Jhalan (conscious, but dropped Slitherbane when he went down) and Amenhotep are up!
GM thunderspirit |
According to your description, the beast dropped me when I fell unconscious, right?
Jhalan remains on the defensive, knowing well that another blow might send him to the Boneyard. Full defense
Yeah, I neglected to say that, but it did.
Amenhotep of Wati |
Sadly, it was a double move - I only have a 30' movement speed...
Amenhotep moves over to the remaining discs, and picks one up (ideally the 'Sun' one, so a double move will get me to the spot for it next round).
GM thunderspirit |
With Jhalan wisely staying put, the xacabra turns its still divided attention to Jaysin!
tail slap 1 vs. Jaysin: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33
dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (3, 3) + 4 = 10 plus free grab attempt
grab vs CMD (plus fountain bonus): 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (7) + 34 = 41
Fail
tail slap 2 vs. Jaysin: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (4) + 17 = 21 Ooh, miss!
tail slap 3 vs. Jaysin: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (15) + 17 = 32
dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (8, 1) + 4 = 13 plus free grab attempt
grab vs CMD (plus fountain bonus): 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (2) + 34 = 36
Fail
You guys are up!
Markolf Crowley |
Markolf will pick up the 'Stars' disc (lifting with his knees) and Slide back to the Stars position.
For the inevitable attacks, Markolf's defenses are currently:
AC: 22 FF: 20 Tch: 14 CMD: 16
GM thunderspirit |
Amenhotep ducks back into the fray, stone disc in hand!
AoO on Amenhotep: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (13) + 17 = 30
AoO dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (8, 3) + 4 = 15 plus free grab attempt
grab vs CMD (plus fountain bonus): 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (7) + 34 = 41
Fail!
He is (tail) slapped for his insolence, but not grabbed; and he makes it to the panel!
Kirana |
Kirana 5ft steps up from the floor, shifts back into her Undine form (standard action), and removes the Void disc from the Pathfinder Pouch she borrowed from Markolf (move action, which provokes)
Caduceus Via |
Wanting desperately to attack this evil before him, Caduceus knows that there are stronger arms to carry that load. He once again calls upon the divinity to which he has devoted his life.
selective channel: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 5) + 1 = 13
BOOKKEEPING
Jaysin and Jhalan heal 5 HP, Caduceus takes 10HP. Channel heals everyone except the BBEG for 13.
Current totals (I believe):
Jaysin 46 HP, Amenhotep 19 HP, Jhalan 21 HP, rest of party FULL HP.
4 channels left!
Jaysin Deckert |
Jaysin continues to try and slay the beast! Taking away Deadly Aim to help with the to-hit chances!
Bow: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18 for Many: 2d8 + 16 ⇒ (7, 5) + 16 = 28
Bow: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19 for Arrow: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Bow: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 for Arrow: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Well, that didn't help. Use my Reroll on the Manyshot since I have got to get this thing down.
Bow: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (15) + 17 = 32 OK, maybe that'll help. 28 points, less anything adamantine doesn't overcome.
GM thunderspirit |
Markolf puts the consumed spell to good use, dimensionally sliding and avoiding AoOs!
AoO vs. Kirana: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18 Natural Jeff!
Caduceus channels!
Jaysin shoots, hitting once (via reroll)!
Jhalan (presumably, at least) opts to stay full defense rather than get up and provoke!
Can take an action instead, if desired. Still have two AoOs left, after all...
tail slap 1 vs. Jaysin: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 8) + 4 = 14 plus free grab attempt
grab vs CMD (plus fountain bonus): 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (19) + 34 = 53 Success!
Huggsies!
constrict dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2) + 4 = 9
tail slap 2 vs. grappled Jaysin: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (13) + 17 = 30
dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 6) + 4 = 12
tail slap 3 vs. grappled Jaysin: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27
dmg: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 = 8
You guys are up! (Jaysin is grappled.)
Caduceus Via |
Just wondering what the construct is doing all this time. Our plan was to help it afterall.
Both Jaysin and Jhalan heal 5 HP, Caduceus takes 10 HP.
selective channel: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1, 2) + 1 = 6 <-- Deja vous all over again.
BOOKKEEPING
Jaysin at 14 HP, Jhalan at 32 HP, Amenhotep at 25 HP, rest of party full HP.
Let's review shall we? what if my channels were for 3d6 character creation stats? 8,7, 9, 6, 13, 6 (well 7,6,8,5,12,5 considering it has a +1) is like a -12 point build. Maybe I'm holding the symbol upside-down or something? Bell curve my butt. Hoping the next few channels are awesome.
Three better be fricken amazing channels remaining.
GM thunderspirit |
Just wondering what the construct is doing all this time. Our plan was to help it afterall.
The construct is presently occupying the xacabra's very dangerous poison bite attack and all of its ridiculously-high-CR spells and spell-like abilities. Also grappling the crap out of it so it can't escape. (And yes, the tail slaps still get AoOs and can still grab.)
Caduceus channels again!Amenhotep takes a full round and places the Sun disc!
Jaysin Deckert |
Well, I'm screwed. I hate grapple. I can never remember what my options are.
Jaysin goes Total Defense and hopes it dies before he does. I knew these people would get me killed.
AC 28
Caduceus Via |
Jaysin, you can try to escape the grapple. Perhaps the water we drank will be helpful in making you feel free???
Kirana |
With the void disc in hand Kirana places it in the appropriate slot.
The elementals will continue to swing at the creature.
Elemental Slam 1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 191d6 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Elemental Slam 2: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 281d6 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Elemental Slam 3: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 271d6 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Elemental Slam 4: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 301d6 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
