Since our GM for this campaign has gone missing, I'll be taking over running the game. Since this leaves us at least one player short (perhaps two), I'll be re-opening recruitment for the game for at least 2 players, possibly three.
Creation rules are as follows, mostly in line with the original ones so as to match the current players. Recruitment will remain open until Friday, July 7th.
- Ability Scores: 1:1 20 Point Buy. Meaning each score increase only costs 1 point. No score above 18, or below 8 before racial modifiers.
- Starting Level: 2nd
- Classes: All Paizo (except Antipaladin; Unchained Summoner Only; Unchained Monk, Rogue, and Barbarian preferred).
- Races: All Paizo (except Drow, Duergar, and Svirfneblin) are acceptable. Note that almost the entire campaign takes place in an urban setting (Korvosa), so personally I will give preference to races that fit in here, though I can be swayed by a convincing backstory.
- Alignment: Any non-evil.
- HP and Starting Gold: Max HP for all levels and Max Starting Gold.
- Traits: Two traits, drawbacks are allowed for an extra trait. Personally I wouldn't bother anymore with the campaign traits, since the campaign has progressed beyond the point where these can be personally resolved by players. However, if you do want to incorporate them into your backstory, they can be found here.
- Background: I expect a decent background to be provided. Players start in Korvosa, and the first small chapter of the campaign has concluded (we've just hit level 2). A little bit more info is provided in the spoiler tag below. Preference will be given to characters that have ties with the city of Korvosa.
- Other Rules: Background Skills will be used.
The current party consists of:
Human evoker wizard
Aasimar investigator (sleuth)
Human oracle (occult)
Half-elf dragonrider

Hello! I popped in to another Crimson Throne recruitment that's currently ongoing and is scheduled to end on the 30th with Vedika Bhatia, a vishkanya ranger (sword devil) who's been in Korvosa for several years since her family moved there for reasons that were never fully explained to her as a child. She became caught up in local business when her younger sister was kidnapped and she set out to rectify the situation, probably with violence.
This character is a melee build that will eventually be two-weapon finesse fighting. If she isn't picked for the other recruitment I'd love to repurpose her for a pitch here.
Sarabian |
I'd like to see about filling in with Giorgio Karakos, a character from a prior CotCT game. He's an infiltrator inquisitor of Sarenrae, mostly focused on social skills with ranged support & magics as needed for combat times. We'd gotten past the first couple of scenarios in the first book, just enough to get to Level 2, before the GM dropped. I'd just need to adjust the stats and HP (originally a 15-point build) and he'd be good to go.
Thorfinn Wyrmblod |
Alright, this is Ouachitonian's submission. Don't let Thorfinn's name fool you, he was born and raised in Korvosa, idolizing the Sable Company Marines. I've made too many posts to change the alias, so he's the child of Ulfen immigrants.
Mechanically, he's a Ranger (Urban Ranger/Sable Company Marine), so he'll one day be riding a hippogriff while raining crossbow bolts on all Korvosa's foes. And he has a lot of skill points, including Disable Device as a class skill, so he can fill in on some skilled roles as well. Once he hits L4 he'll also be able to fill in as a healer, using CLW wands and the like as well as his own limited spells.

Gadren -Human (Shoanti) Cleric of Pharasma-Level 2, NG
I will be honest I am running the adventure path currently so understand if that is an issue. I was originally going to make a Shoanti Fighter but after seeing ye were down three players and had a lot of ranger applications I revised it to a combat capable cleric. Not sure what the line up is with the lack of responses mentioned before but if a cleric would be useful for balance, especially oracle is MIA.
Gadren grew up in Korvosa as an orphan, all he had left of his family was a symbol of Pharasma. This was a rare link to his heritage. Gadren tried to find out as much as he could about his people from a young age, even disappearing for periods to have “adventures” however he found himself drawn to the church of Pharasma.
His physical strength allowed him to aid priests in doing sweeps of the graveyards of the city to destroy any restless dead. Unusually heavily armed for a priest of Pharasma and skilled at combat he sought out to join the Pathfinder society, though he has made a few missions outside of the city of Korvosa with them on occassion there is plenty of work to do in the city. The recent tensions in the city have kept him close to home of late. As things finally come to a head he readies his gear and takes to the streets.

Here's the lineup of (nearly) completed submissions. Recruitment is still open for a few days, and I'll decide who makes the cut this weekend. Currently looking for at least 3, possibly even 4 people, so everyone has a good chance at being selected.
Vedika Bhatia - vishkanya ranger (sword devil)
Giorgio “Sunset” Karakos - half-elf inquisitor (infiltrator)
Thorfinn Wyrmblod - human ranger (urban ranger, Sable Company Marine)
Gadren - human cleric of Pharasma
Griar Brand - human aerokineticist 1/vigilante 1
Alistair Wellington II - human swashbuckler
Cataria Ghita |
I'd like to enter Cataria Ghita, the Dancing, Fortune-Telling, Harrow-Reading Varisian runaway daughter of the relatively unknown minor Magistrate of Infrastructure, Sorin Ghita.
I'm leaving her curse open because I sort of want to play the Deaf curse, but don't want to be a PITA to the party, so if they prefer I not do that, I have a backup list of options that all suit her fine.
She'll eventually become a Harrower (the Prestige Class), and I will certainly flesh out a background for her tomorrow, but wanted to get my name in the hat now, and get feedback if there's any to give.
Algund Neithan |
Submitting Algund Neithan. The alias, as is usual for me, is reused from an earlier alias which was not accepted to a game, and so old posts on this alias should be ignored (although other aliases are quite open to perusal).
I'd appreciate any feedback I can get from the GM or from others, and would be willing to review the submission of anyone who helps me out. If you do choose to look over my character, let me know how you would describe him, and if anything seems out of place. There's a lot going on, and while I feel that none of it is contradictory, that isn't necessarily the case. An additional thing to keep in mind is that while my character behaves irrationally, I do not believe that he behaves unrealistically.

Uh-oh, I'm using the same picture for Vedika! :D

I'll have a look at Algund. Let me know what you think of Cataria?

GM here:
@Cataria I'm a bit of a proponent of letting people play the things they want to play, so if you want the deaf curse, go for it, and if you get selected, we'll work with it.

Your writing quality seems reasonably high, the one thing I would look out for are sentences which are too long and contain too many ideas. Varying length is quite important. Apart from that, however, I'd say that what you've got so far is good enough that you should think about adding things before careful revision.
Looking over Cataria, I'm left with a clear sense of the following:
1) Rebelliousness is a key personality trait, as indicated throughout.
2) In addition to being rebellious, she's adventurous. At least, to some degree. She spent her nights sneaking out, despite being caught several times, and left home to be a dancer. But once she became a dancer she didn't leave, and so clearly she isn't motivated primarily by a fear of routine and a desire to seek out adventure, unless she'd only been a dancer for a short time.
3) It seems like the curse of deafness that came with benefits was less a dark cloud with a silver lining and more of a bag of gifts with a negative side effect. That is, she's grateful, and so it seems she's come out ahead in her own mind.
I'm not sure how much time you have to add things, and you might not like the idea of writing too much, but here are the questions I'd ask about Cataria. I've tried to list them in the order that I would answer them in, but it was rather difficult, so you'll have to make that judgment yourself.
How would Cataria react to a homeless man complimenting her dancing? What if he were clearly drunk and behaving lewdly? What if it was a nobleman instead? How would she react to her parents showing up at her doorstep? There might be other situations that could be interesting as well, those are just a few off the top of my head. This question is perhaps the most important to have a good answer too, but also the hardest to put into a background.
She ran away from her family, but does she miss her siblings? What about the trappings of being a Magistrate? How different is her old life from her new one, and what did she carry from one to the other?
I'd like to know a little bit about her childhood. Did she have a rigorous education? Was she forced into a mold she didn't conform to, and if so, what was that mould?
She worked as a dancer outside the fortune teller's tent, but she must have some other free time. What else does she do? Does she drink and frequent bars, stay and chat with Anca, pray to gods, or something else entirely?
Did she have lots of friends? How did she come to know Anca, a woman she clearly trusted quite a bit?
What does she use her gifts for beside dancing? She can learn things about the future, but how mundane is that? Do her friends get to benefit from this power?

** spoiler omitted **...
Thank you! Those are all excellent points. I whipped up that little blurb in about 10 min yesterday and didn't go back to re-read it before updating her profile. I'll definitely expand on it today, as well as reviewing your profile. I appreciate the feedback!

Well, I appreciate that a lot. I've always wanted to try to make it work, and it just seems like such a pain in face-to-face games, whereas PbP might be better suited to accommodate it.
