Kragg Stoneheart |
That sounds like a wise plan. I will prepare a new miracle for that endeavor to allow us to breath underwater as well. That way we should have as many limitations when we explore unlike last time. Shall we head out now and then I can prepare spells in the morning whenever we get there or would you all feel better waiting till the morning to leave. That way I can have all of Abadar’s blessings available to us.
Lara Evangeline |
"Another day in the Bounty wouldn't hurt," Lara says.
Alyn Ellor |
"Finally some field work."
Thame Smythe |
Thame agreed with Lara. Waiting until they were at full strength always seemed prudent. The wizard thought that maybe Alyn seemed overeager to go about this adventuring business, but everyone had something different that made them tick. The illusionist couldn't wait until things settled down and he could go back to studying Azlanti artifacts.
Alyn Ellor |
"I have run out of books and writings on the area and would like to continue my research. I should get my papers in order. Just tell me where we are in and what you need me to do."
Kragg Stoneheart |
In the morning with the others but before spells are prepared, I think we should cut inland as we travel. We have traveled the coastlines north and south of our area fairly well. I am thinking we should plan for a 4-6 journey so as not to leave the colony uninformed. We make our way to where the last reported location of the Naga and we can decide from there what to do.
Alyn Ellor |
"Sounds good. I'm happy to carry water and rations tents and so on."
Alyn Ellor |
"I have two single tents."
Lara Evangeline |
"A man came up to me once and said, 'I'm a teepee; I'm a wigwam; I'm a teepee; I'm a wigwam.' I said to him, 'Relax, man, you're two tents." Lara quips. "Perhaps we should get another tent or two, just in case? I don't mind roughing it, but some cover from rain could be nice."
Thame Smythe |
Thame was very much in agreement with the need for cover from the rain. His spellbook was made of the finest material, but it was still paper, after all. "Covering some of the unexplored regions does sound prudent, Kragg. Perhaps we'll stumble upon more signs of our missing first expedition, as well."
The wizard wasn't going to hold his breath, but one never knew for sure. He went to gather a few extra days' rations, just in case the group lingered out in the wilds, then prepared to leave.
GM Strikes Back |
Ramona checks in with the group once more before they set out to make sure that everyone is on the same page.
Thank you for continuing on with your exploration of the island. even with all of the stuff going on here with Faceless Stalkers we still need to learn more about this island and what happened to our previous colony. I will do my best here to keep the colony moving forward and keep an eye out for any further odd behaviors. please don't be gone too long!
what location are you going to work your way towards?
the group sets out, heading inland for the first time. the island is much harder to navigate by land instead of just going around it, but the group si well-equipped and ready for anything.
the first day of travel is slow but uneventful. it is not hard to find what looks to be a level and safe place to set up a camp
please give a watch order and any preparations you are making to secure your camp for the night
Alyn Ellor |
I will let the OG members pick the path. He will also take any watch.
At camp Alyn gets a fire going so it will be hot but mostly burned down to coals by nightfall. Then he will set up the tents. Then he will set up 2 bell wire traps, and two bear traps to help secure the campsite.
Lolito |
Lolito takes a pot and starts boiling some water at Alyn's fire. Then he cooks some of the vegetables and meat the group brought from town.
After the group has had dinner he looks for a prominent stone over the campsite and sits there comfortably "I only need 2 hours of sleep"
Ki metabolism
"I can take watch the whole night. I will wake up Alyn or perhaps Kragg at dawn. Of course, if some of you want to stay up and watch with me, it is always more entertaining" the man smiles wide showing prominently his crocked teeth and winking an eye at Lara.
As Alyn, being a recent arrival, I think it is more fit for the original players to decide the way to go forward
Thame Smythe |
I believe we're headed to area G
Thame chuckled at Ramona's parting comment. "We'd rather not be gone too long, as well. Take care, in the interim." The wizard looked at the buildings of the fledgling colony as a whole worriedly...the mistrust and other issues. They sounded reminiscent of the bits and pieces they had found from the first colony.
At the end of their first day traveling overland, the illusionist gladly sat down when the group decided to make camp. He snickered at Lolito's suggestion that he could manage only 2 hours of sleep, but then shrugged. The wizard was quite happy to study his spellbook and then get a night full of uninterrupted sleep.
Lolito |
"To pay a visit to the naga G. Ok, it sounds like a good plan, what have you heard about her so far? Do you think she will be open to help Talmandor's Bounty?" Lolito is more than willing to discuss plans as he consumes frugally his vegetable soup.
"Do you know Carver Hastings? An interesting man. He told me about an abandoned Ulfen settlement in the eastern coast while I was fixing his roof" the man slurps noisily the soup then continues "It seems the place is in our way to the naga's island. I think it might be convenient to profit our trek and make a stop there to confirm the settlement is real and what remains of it A"
Lara Evangeline |
Lara nods. "Yes, I know Carver. He mentioned the old Ulfen colony to me, too. If I remember the map of the island, it's a little out of the way. Maybe on our return trip?"
The Taldan archaeologist returns the monk a very hesitant, almost pained smile at the idea of staying up the whole night with Lolito. On the other hand, being asleep around him might be worse....
Thame Smythe |
Thame thought about Lolito's words for a moment, and then shrugged noncommittally. "Not sure, to be honest. Probably depends on what kind of naga and whether it thinks it has more to gain by a friendship with us than just killing us. Still, it's our mandate to iron these sorts of things out for the colony. Maybe I'll do some research on when the things eat so we can find an optimal time to visit..."
When talk turned to the Ulfen settlement, the wizard's excitement grew very little. The northern warriors weren't exactly known for being Azlanti artifact collectors. "I suppose it wouldn't be untoward to travel there on the way back." If Thame was honest with himself, the more things the group put on its to-do list, the longer it would be before the inevitable confrontation with the hag, which was fine by him.
Lolito |
Lolito nods slowly. With crossed legs sit on his rock he exposes his own reasons while the others finish eating "Yes, I am most interested on the site, because if there was really an Ulfen settlement there and it is no more... well... maybe we can learn many lessons from whatever wiped out them. Talmandor's Bounty will be better prepared to face the danger the Ulfen faced. Maybe what wiped them out is the same that took our fellow colonists of the first wave..."
"Although I am too more excited about searching Azlanti ruins and acting as envoys in diplomatic missions, I think it is an act of responsibility to know what happened to the Ulfen. And we might find useful whatever resources they left behind" the man's breath is brought almost to a halt as he makes his meditation exercises, preparing himself to stay awake the rest of the night for watching.
GM Strikes Back |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
the night passes calmy for the most part. at one point in the middle of the night Lolito spots movement outside of the light of the campfire. he is able to get a clear enough view of the creature to determine it is a monkey goblin eying the camp. it doesn't come any closer however and seems to run away once spotted.
at one other point in the night Lolito hears strange noises in the night that don't sound like anything he has encountered before. it sounds like a rumbling like boulders rolling downhill mixed with exceptionally loud sounds of insects clicking and chittering. he doesn't see what is making the noise, but it is more than a little unsettling.
GM Strikes Back |
after some discussion the group agrees to continue towards the water naga and make their way across the island in a pretty direct route. they discuss doubling back ot check out another landmark on the way back towards the colony.
during the day's journey the group spots what looks like a good source of stone for the colony if they can describe where they found it.
in the late afternoon the group has to cross a small river. it doesn't look particularly swift, but water corssings are not always simple...
sure enough, you spot a group of several reefclaws just under the surface of the water....
what do you do?
Lara Evangeline |
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Lara points out several shapes under the water. "If we're going to ford here, we'll want to do something about those reefclaws in the water there."
Lolito |
On the morning Lolito explains everyone about the strange boulder falling noises. He seems a bit unsettled but not scared.
----------------
"Look these rocks here. I think Ramona would be happy to know there is stone a plenty in this place" Lolito looks around for a reference, like a mountain and tries to remember it for later "We should make sure to note her about it. We could build a quarry here"
Noted the stone in our map, along with the post number
----------------
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
"Yes, I do see them too. I think we are strong enough to face them if they dare attack us, but let me see if there is a saver place to cross nearby" Lolito looks at the surroundings trying to locate perhaps a fallen trunk, a rocks group, or tracks of a place where animals prefer to ford so they can avoid facing the reefclaws.
Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
If nothing is found, Lolito does not mind trying to cross anyway.
Kragg Stoneheart |
Sorry fits work has been busy at the hospital. I will try and get on more.
Kragg listens mostly and speaks very little as the group journeys onward. At camp he offers to help by taking a watch in the morning when Lolito is resting. When they find the stone he looks to see where Lolito is able to make a marking on their maps to relocate it for future use. I agree. If we can safely quarry this stone it will be a strong source of raw materials that we can ship back. It will make the colony that much stronger economically and encourage further support back home.
Knowledge geography aid if needed 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Moving onward to the naga Kragg speaks up again. We should announce our presence once we get closer. We do not want to startle her and make her mad at us when we are going for a diplomatic approach. Then depending on our success we can head to the Ulfen encampment on the way back.
His thoughts are disrupted though as they arrive at the river and the announcement of reef claws are made. We can try and go around but if this the shallowest and safest river fording then we will have to move the reef claws elsewhere. To bad Trieste wasn’t here she would likely be able to get them to move peacefully. As it is let’s looks around a bit for a safer crossing or a tree we can fell to create a bridge across.
Survival 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Alyn Ellor |
"The stone could be an invaluable means of fortification."
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
"Does anyone know about reefclaws? I have this book on local creatures."
[ooc]The book is a pathfinder chronicle and give a +2 to the knowledge check.[/b]
GM Strikes Back |
Lolito does manage to find another location that the group could ford without dealing with the reefclaws. it is not as easy of a crossing, but should be no issue for an experienced group. the reefclaws themselves are not much of a threat for this group either, but could be more of a nuisance for colonists that come this way for the stone quarry
Lolito |
"You see there, it is a passage. Not that easy. But on a second thought perhaps we want to make sure the area is clear of monsters" Lolito uncoils his chain belt and takes it with both hands "These are no beasts that will respect any kind of treaties. The colonists will be way safer if we face this now"
Attacking the reefclaws if others agree.
Lara Evangeline |
Lara hesitates, then nods her head. Unshouldering her bow, she says, "We may as well deal with it now, then."
Alyn Ellor |
"I don't know of any group better suited for this job."
Alyn draws his weapon and Trick grows from bat size to human-sized.
Kragg Stoneheart |
Unslinging his long spear Kragg joins the others in clearing the reef claws from the area. Hopefully with some sound tactics we can take them out with range and reach weapons. No sense rushing into this or wasting resources when we don’t know what is around the next turn.
Alyn Ellor |
Alyn draws this on the ground.

"The two of us with reach (R) in front. O is for oldman, sorry we have two Ls, so he can move up and flurry with all the punches and kicks. Lara and Thame in back protected. Seem good?"
Thame Smythe |
Thame listened to the discussion on tactics with interest, nodding in eager agreement with Alyn's plan to put him in the back. Truthfully, clearing out the monsters now did seem like the wiser choice, if not the safest, and they could always point it out to Ramona when they returned. The group already had a fair amount of esteem in the colony, but a little more never hurt. The wizard got out his crossbow and loaded a bolt into it, ready to go when everyone was in position.

Kragg Stoneheart |
Once the group gathers together again Kragg channels Abadar’s power into the group healing them of the injuries of the battle. As he does so he apologizes for his outburst, I am sorry for yelling at you both. I thought we had a plan to stay together. We should learn from this and try to understand each person abilities and personalities. Thankfully this was just a minor encounter. In the future we must work as a team or we will suffer the same fate as we did before... Kragg stops not wanting to revisit the recent memories of their fight underwater when they lost a member of their team.

Kragg looks at Lolito and shakes his head at the old man. But I don’t need you pissing in your breeches old man because you are too far away for us to help. You go out on a limb like that too often you will have more than pissed breeches to worry about. Consider others abilities as well so as to not endanger everyone...please.
Stepping down off his soap box Kragg agrees to continue on the trail to the naga. On the way as the discussion of Kaldan comes up Kragg stays silent for a bit. Eventually he speaks up, His name was Kaldan. I blame myself for his loss. If I was stronger in the faith I would have been able to protect him or heal him. As it was I was weak and used too many of the miracles Abadar granted me foolishly. We attempted things we were ill equipped to handle and he paid the price for my foolishness.
Alyn Ellor |
"It was not my first choice to run out but once the line is broken you have to improvise. It is good to work these things out now in relatively easy fights. Mistakes will be more costly later."
Lara Evangeline |
"A lot could have gone differently, Kragg," Lara says as the group continues on its way to the naga's lair. "It's no good blaming anyone for that. Best just to move on."
