When others are ready, Wren casts Open/close from 55' away. She will run back into the gatehouse while the 1 round summon spell invokes.

I'll go with Wren's plan once everyone is leveled up unless the group decides on another action. Lena - you instantly level up but IIRC you don't get to use the extra spell slots until you rest.

With the group crowded on the other side of the bridge, Wren hesitantly waves her hand, and the door opens.

Her fears are indeed warranted as an enormous portal opens up in the air over the door. The wind begins blowing violently around the group, whipping their hair around and pushing them back. Finally, the winds begin to coalesce, and in front of the door an ENORMOUS living tornado appears with cold blue eyes. It begins to advance.

"I think it's a giant living tornado!"

Wren moves to a spot where she can get a clean shot at the tornado.

Although it's a really big one, it's no difficulty for the learned wizard to spot an air elemental.

Her little blob of acid whizzes across the bridge before being sucked up into the living tornado. The elemental ignores the splash completely and flies across the bridge at astonishing speed before rearing up and hammering a fist down at Arval. The doughty warrior is hammered back, as if he was just struck by an incredible gust of wind.

Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (13) + 17 = 30 Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13

Arval takes 13 damage! Everyone is up! Mr. Elemental has a lot of reach.

Eldon looks at Wren in confusion, but shrugs as he decides to leave it for now. He opens his mouth to start inspiring his allies, but almost no sound comes out. The halfling's eyes grow with fear when he realizes what's going on.

Noooooo! I lost my voice!

"Aaaah!" Eldon screams weakly, barely audible.

Out of bardic performance rounds for today!

Not knowing what else to do, Eldon covers his head as he goes total defense.

+6 dodge bonus for total cover with at least 3 ranks in Acrobatics.
(Not sure if that's also a thing Versatile Performance lets me substitute with Perform (Dance)? I think it does, but I have 3 ranks in Acrobatics anyway.)

Hey guys, after doing some reading since GMs seem to go in different directions on this I'm going to allow additional daily ability uses and spells per day after levelling, without resting. So if you get additional spells or ability uses per day, you get those now.

Eldon's Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Eldon immediately recalls that you can absolutely hit air elementals with conventional weapons, it's just that they tend to resist some of the damage from pretty much everything. He also recalls that air elementals can turn into massive actual tornadoes capable of picking up and tossing people, small buildings, and several kinds of livestock.

Just to be clear because I'm not sure you answered or saw this or otherwise, but Wren's acid damage is not stopped by DR 5/-. Spells, spell-like abilities, and energy attacks (even non-magical fire) ignore damage reduction.

Wren answers Arval.

Wren's shot is fouled by the blasting winds of the elemental and her acid arrow simply flies off into the distance while Whiskeyjack grants Arval a minor blessing.

Kawrock moves into the corner opposite of Wren. The Tengu takes aim and lets a firebolt fly at the elemental.

Perception 10:
Small tendrils of smoke seem to be trialing off of Kawrock, it appears some of this feathers are starting to smolder.

The firebolt slams into the air elemental, knocking a little more off of it and diminishing its size further. However, it remains enormous as it approaches.

This time, rather than attack, the air elemental stretches taller and thiner, and begins spinning. Soon the eyes and arms are lost, and a whirlwind is before the group! A torn guard's uniform whips around wildly in the gatehouse behind the group.

AIr elemental has transformed into a whirlwind. 5' wide at the base, but it goes up 30'. Everyone is up!

Steel does in fact hit that as Arval yells in panic before he starts wailing on the tornado. Despite it being just air, he finds purchase for his weapon; there is a living creature in there. Again and again he wails on it, the elemental shrinking with each attack.

She sends a trio of screeching talons of force at the elemental, each seeking to rake and shred the vortex into smaller pieces.

Sorry had some stuff I needed to create, also the site ate my post yesterday.

The elementals gusting winds fan the flames that are now consuming Kawrocks feathers. The tengu's laugh is barely heard over the howling elemental. "Today is a good day my friends, for now you get a glimpse of my clans power!" Kawrock shouts as the flames consume him, leaving nothing but a small bird made of fire.

Everyone takes a moment to adjust as Kawrock burns into ash and then rises as a spectacular flaming bird.

The enormous tornado whips across the opposite side of the bridge and Arval, Whiskeyjack, and Lena feel themselves yanked into the sky!

ARval: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10
Lena: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
Whiskeyjack: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10

Arval, Whiskeyjack, and Lena must succeed on TWO DC 21 reflex saves each. If they fail the first save, they take the above damage. If htey fail the second save, they are picked up into the air by the whirlwind. While in a whirlwind you can act normally but cannot move. Spells require a DC 15+spell level concentration check to hit, and attacks while in the whirlwind are -2 to hit, and -4 dex in total. Everyone is up!

"By Angradd's toes, wha' is this?" Whiskeyjack shouted as he was buffeted by the wind. The whirlwind pulled some hair from his beard and head, and something hard whacked him in the side. He could feel the creature trying to lift him from the ground, but he held firm. "By faith an' by form, yer no' gonna ge' a dwarf's feet off th' ground tha' easy!"

As Arval is flung up into the tornado he twists his body, slashing out viciously while Lena and Whiskeyjack leaps out, hammering the air elemental with attacks and spells.

Kawrock and Eldon are up! The air elemental is alllllmost dead.

That one does it. Kawrock swoops in, curving upwards as he lets loose a brilliant bolt of fire. It slams into the centre of the whirlwind, and blasts it apart. Arval hangs in the air for a moment before he collapses to the ground. Just beside him, two hundred feet below, the waterfall roars.

Kawrock circles the building a few times from the air before landing next to the group in his fiery form. He bobs his head and lets out a "Kreee!" as Lena works her magic.

Lena's spell makes easy work of the door, and it opens up to reveal a great hall. A huge portait hangs about an enormous, lit fireplace in a large entry chamber. A steep set of stairs rises to the right.

Most notably, a strange object of metal and flesh lurks under the stairs. It is vaguely humanoid with enormous, scythe-like forearms and although predominantly made of wire and metal, it has some organic parts which appear decorative. It turns to face the group.

"INTRUDERS UNACCOMPANIED BY GUARDS"

Aside from that announcement, it does not move.

Wren looks over the strange, horrible, hook-clawed apparatus in front of her. It's clearly a construct considering the reputation of Count Caromarc, possibly an elaborate animated object. However, it's a unique type that she's never seen, or read of before. Also, from what she understands about constructs this is likely working off of some pre-programmed commands which cause it to attack intruders in the absence of some kind of cue. Considering the type of automaton, and the spells probably used to create it, it likely needs a visual cue.
