"Ok, yeah, yeah. I have a couple of borders right now... I don't know who they really are, but they call themselves the Duchesses." he stammers. "I don't know about any gold... they keep to themselves."

Well, why don't you let us in to talk to them?

Via telepathy, I can teleport us to the Temple as well if we start to run short no time

Silbeg, do we have a idea of how much time we have in game to get to the temple?

Shadow Lodge

Male Human (Minnesotan) GM 5 Skittershot!

Like many specials, the time announcements are "real time" not "game time". You will make it to the temple, we will just end the action when the final overseer post is made. It might make sense, in game, for Antonius to teleport the group, though?

"Yeah, well, I cannot do that... they are not here. No, I don't know where they are. Yes, they have a room here." He reacts to the obvious questions. "No, their room isn't the front one. Yes, the one in the back. No, I cannot stop you... obviously you are more powerful than I am."

The team makes their way back to the north bedroom.

perception rolls in the room:

Avoreal Perception: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (17) + 25 = 42
Antonius Perception: 1d20 + 38 ⇒ (14) + 38 = 52
Duhwoo’s Perception check: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (7) + 22 = 29
Vuvu Perception: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (11) + 22 = 33
Vars Perception: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (5) + 31 = 36

When in the room, Avoreal, Antonius, and Vars notice a locked strong box under the bed.

Just shout if you need a hand.

He turns to the merchant. You made a wise decision, what is your relationship with these women? What do you know about them?

Note: the merchant does not enter the room.. in fact, he stays at the foyer, so that he doesn't see what you are doing.
"I... I don't really know them. They are just boarders... that's all that I know!"

Avoreal checks the box, but it appears to have no traps magical or otherwise. She easily opens it, and finds 5,000 gp in Minkaian coins.

I am afraid we are going to have to borrow this. When the Duchesses return you can tell them that they have the compliments of Maiveer Sloan and if they want it back that they should feel free to pop by the Bronze House and he will discuss the situation with them.

VC - Sydney, Australia

***OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT***

The last of the attendees are shuffled into the Cathedral of Abadar and the crowd eagerly await the beginning of the auction. A portly man takes to the stage, and with a voice like a foghorn declares ”The auction is open!” which sets off a hum through the crowd as people start jostling for position and readying their auction bidding paddles, as though they were cutlasses with which to defeat the auction itself!

Kresch Vaor looks around at the readied auction-slayers with a broken resolve “Bah, too much for an old key. Proctor, I’m out. Have one of your clergymen transfer my deposit to my personal account.” then sits back down.

The bidding then begins with fury, paddles being thrust into the air representing thousands of gold at a time

The Duchesses seem a bit distant, and very quickly exit the bidding.

As the numbers rise, Maiveer Sloan calls out, he pleads with the auctioneer, “I don’t have the funds on hand, but let my organization put down credit on the key. I can have the extra funds in a few months and you know we’re good for it.” The Auctioneer purses his heavy lips in sympathetic understanding. The Proctor interjects ”The rules state this auction would be a fast sell only with coin in hand” Maiveer pleads further ”Sir! I protest! I have been victimised and robbed - and though I make no issue of it now I protest that I would have had the coin had it not been so! The rogues, robbers, and conspirators sit right under this very roof and gain from this injustice!” The proctor, having none of it, simply turns to Sloan ”Contain yourself or the church will have you removed.”

As order is almost restored, a group of toughs barges in and heads straight for Dymal Rinks - ”Minvandu wants a word”. He begins to protest, but two burly half-orcs simply grab an arm each and pick him up and start walking out. Sheila Heidmarch makes a gesture that is very clear - do NOT get involved. Minvandu’s chief legbreaker pauses at the Proctor ”Sorry about that interruption, bit of confusion needing to be dealt with. Whatever deposit Rinks tried to put down on the auction belongs to our employer, Mr. Minvandu. I’ll send someone around later to collect it, after the boss has a few private words with Rinks”. Rinks is then dragged out of the auction house, kicking and screaming.

The auction begins again in earnest, with some Pathfinders baulking at the sums being thrown around and consider wandering to a nearby tavern instead. The number of bidders begins to rapidly thin…

Doctor Landis starts making an offer, then thinks better of it - some concern playing at the back of his mind no doubt. He lowers his hand, and simply gestures that he’s cut himself off by waving his hand across his throat.

Falrig Sneve seems spooked by Doctors Landis withdrawing and it triggers him too “Too rich for my blood. Fold!”

With only Pathfinders and Lady Kaddren in the bidding war, the atmosphere gets tense - it is clear that Lady Kaddren is determined to win… yet as she is about to bid a breathtaking sum, a runner presents her with a note which she quickly reads. After, she grimaces at the assembled Pathfinders and their Venture Captain and in a threatening tone says, “This time, you got lucky. From here out, you might want to watch your backs.” Then she turns to the proctor and tells him, “You can close my bids out.” After, she tucks the note into her cloak and storms out.

The Auctioneer continues “Going, going, gone! And sold to table seven with the red coloured paddle for a final price of sixty thousand gold pieces! Table seven please send one representative to the front of the room to claim your prize!”

A seasoned Pathfinder, Eadie Navhelan from the winning table strides out to collect.

Without warning, a tremendous flash of light and smoke appears behind the auctioneer, and the very fabric of reality is sliced open. Seconds later, a black-robed figure steps through the rift and pulls a jagged black-bladed dagger across the auctioneer’s throat sending a shower of blood into the screaming crowd of bidders. The remorseless assassin snatches the Runecarved Key and in a fit of mad laughter bursts into dozens of shadowy black forms, each fleeing from the cathedral in a different direction.

Begin Act 4!

With barely a thought Antonius takes the form of a rock troll, still concealed behind his illusionary façade.

Planes, roll twice: 2d20 ⇒ (3, 18) = 21 +39

I assume a 57 is enough to know pretty much anything about bone devils?

Antonius regards the bone devils with cool contempt. You are in violation of the Treaty between her Infernal Magistrix Queen Abrogail Thrune and your Dark Lord Asmodeus. As Signifier of the Gate I command you to depart this place at once. Here, let me help you along your way.

With that Antonius intones a spell, electrical energy surges up around him, hissing and spitting. With a gesture he sends it exploding throughout the room striking at every enemy it can reach.

Antonius casts Stormbolts hitting all of the bone devils and dealing 19d8 ⇒ (7, 8, 2, 8, 8, 4, 3, 1, 6, 7, 6, 1, 2, 6, 4, 6, 3, 2, 5) = 89 electrical damage and stunning the targets for 1 round. A DC34 reflex save halves the damage and negates the stun. He casts defensively and he cannot fail the check with +31 concentration.

SR Penetration Yellow: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (2) + 23 = 25
SR Penetration Purple: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (10) + 23 = 33
SR Penetration Turquoise: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (18) + 23 = 41
SR Penetration Blue: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (11) + 23 = 34

With another gesture Antonius vanishes from sight and then promptly rises up out of the way.

Antonius casts quickened greater invisibility and then moves. Mind Blank means he cannot be seen with true seeing or see invisibility although blindsense or blindsight will still pick him up. How high is the ceiling in the chamber? Can he get over the walls of stone?

Shadow Lodge

Male Human (Minnesotan) GM 5 Skittershot!

Yes, Antonius knows all about bone devils. Mostly why I didn't bother to not use their names.

The walls are 10' high, but there is a wall on the top as well, so you can only get out via the front where the bone devils are.

Also, please, as Antonius did, make your SR checks. You can assume things like outsiders have SR.

Vuvu can only see the four devils, and three casters. These are the only ones he can target. Please, it is good etiquette to call out the targets, if only to make it the clearest possible. This is the reason I color code all the baddies.

Duhwoo and Vars disappear, to end up 500' over the temple. As they are falling Duhwoo simply stares into space... and they two hit for falling damage: 20d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 5, 3, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 4, 6, 1, 5, 6, 2, 6, 5, 5, 6, 6) = 75.

Unless Vars can cast feather fall, this happens. Duhwoo cannot cast it until his turn, because of the side effect of dimension door. They then fall the 500' in that turn.

All four of the devils just stand there for a moment, as if a bit overwhelmed by something. The same happens for the three cultists that you can see.

Duhwoo just loves flying — his feet rarely touch the ground if he has a means of flight available (although he won’t usually swap his Cloak of Resistance for his Wings of Flying, because saving throws are too important) — so I can safely say if the Avoreal’s spell is still active, Duhwoo did not need Feather Fall; instead he flies around looking for the crook!

You all see the assassin ducking around a from a cluttered alleyway! Ahead of you is a crowd of people who have gathered around the cathedral for the auction...

Chase rules:

This section is a chase scene...

Each box will be 30'.
Move action to move to challenge.
Standard action to attempt one of the challenges. If successful, move to next box.
Full Round action to attempt both challenges. If successful, move forward up to three squares.

If you are in an adjacent square, you can attempt to cast spells or use ranged attacks (noting the distance).

Melee combat can only happen if you are in the same square.

Targets in adjacent squares may have cover or concealment, depending on the challenges in the squares.

We will be in initiative order, as you chase the assassin. When you are up, describe your actions, and make the appropriate skills checks. If you have a "creative solution", please PM me first, to save retcons.

I will add the next box when you are adjacent. Each box will have 2 sections "Moving" and "Challenge", as well as a description.

You are moving through crowded city streets, so you'll likely want to be medium or smaller size. Larger sizes will give penalties.

Land movement speeds >30' will give +2 on checks for every +10' over 30, and -2 for ever 10' under 30. As you are following through twisting city streets, flight will be difficult to use (no penalties or bonuses).

If you fail at an obstacle, you can spend your next full round to "find another way around", moving forward one square.

Chase is on slide #8

You can D-door up to square #2... but you cannot see him (nor the square he is in), so you don't have enough information to target the spell's terminus.

Vars is not up yet. He will do his actions on his turn, perhaps.

Please post your actions something like:
Move action: move up to the crowd.
Standard action: push through crowd.

Avoreal lifts up into the air and flies after the man.

As far as I can tell the crown is the only obstacle? Flying should negate them all together. I considered an extended timestop, but I suppose that would take all of the fun out of it for everyone else.

With barely a thought Antonius shifts form again, transforming into a tall, slim, red skinned giant. With a wave of his hand he casts a spell, quickening everyone's reflexes, before heading off after the assassin at speed through the crowd.

Antonius takes the form of a desert giant as a free action. They have a base land speed of 50'. He casts quickened haste on as many of the group as he is able to reach, increasing his speed to 80' and providing a +10 bonus on his checks.

Move action: Move up to the obstacle

Standard action: Follow the crowd
Sense Motive, heroism, speed bonus: 1d20 + 29 + 2 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 29 + 2 + 10 = 51

I may be missing something but how can you take the full round action to attempt both checks if it takes a move action to move up to the challenge? If both are an option this round I would definitely try it so here is a CMB check just in case it is an option
CMB, haste, heroism, speed bonus: 1d20 + 14 + 1 + 2 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 14 + 1 + 2 + 10 = 37

Duhwoo will try the full-round action to attempt both challenges -- with +6 due to extra 30' movement rate (thanks for the Haste, Antonius!)

Duhwoo's Overrun with non-raging CMB: 1d20 + 28 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 28 + 6 = 51

Duhwoo's Sense Motive check: 1d20 + 20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 20 + 6 = 44

good dice rolls for a change!

You aren't always moving up to the challenge. Once there, you can make the full round.

Because you are needing to stay near ground level, and twisting through narrow city streets, flying does not negate the need for the challenges.

Duhwoo still had to move up... so can either wait until next turn to make both, or just succeed on one and move forward.

Avoreal moved up, but still has her standard left. I will move forward, and she can take it when she wants. I have adjusted the map

Antonius moves up and can now see the assassin trying to push past a fruit cart. As he does, he realizes that his huge form will be a tight fit in the narrow streets and alleyways.

Does Ring of Freedom of Movement apply at all?

Flying just slightly above the crowd, Avoreal takes her time, confident the others will catch the thief. She has no CMB or Sense Motive and since 9th level magic cannot negate the situation this is all she can do.

Shadow Lodge

Male Human (Minnesotan) GM 5 Skittershot!

Avoreal may be surprised. At level 19, you will have a CMB +10 -- this would be worth a try. I am just trying to run the scene as written.

Large should still be mostly ok, Antonius. Thought that was your huge form.

Duhwoo waits for a moment with Vuvu (again, move action to move up, standard to take the challenge, full round to do both), while Avoreal decides what to do. Vars pushes past without too much trouble (holding rolls for Vuvu until next round)

Duhwoo is now on the final slide, near the assassin, after his full round action. To get to this slide, you need to go through the chase scene, or come up with a way around it.

If Antonius can see the thief from where he is he will simply greater teleport as many of the group as he can reach into range of them.

On arrival he will then cast quickened Icy Prison at him forcing a DC35 reflex save or rendering him encased in ice, helpless and taking 19 cold damage per round. If he saves he is instead entangled and taking 19 cold damage per round. The spell lasts for 19 minutes. It blocks line of effect and he can break the ice with a DC34 strength check as a full round action.

That's quite enough running away from you!

Shadow Lodge

Male Human (Minnesotan) GM 5 Skittershot!

too many actions, Antonius. We are in rounds.

You can teleport right now with Vars. That is a standard action, if I am not mistaken, unless you have a way to quicken a 7th level spell?

The Exchange

Male LN Half Elf Sorcerer (Razmiran Priest) 19

Icy Prison is a level 5 spell. I have Spell Perfection for it which allows me to apply a single metamagic effect to it without raising the spell level. Quicken spell makes it a swift. So that is a standard action to teleport and a swift for Icy Prison, with my move I wave at him while rising 15' in the air out of melee reach.
