GM Poblano Pepper |
Welcome one, Wecome All, Withing this thread you will find the current GM school for a few intrepid younglings ready to cut there teeth on a new adventure, this time from the seat behind the screen.
I look forward to playing along side you as well as running one of the Quests for you as well.
Each of you will be running one of the five quests of the Starfinder Society Scenario Into the Unknown.
Please feel free to discuss which Quest you would prefer to run. If you have any question please ask here so we may all learn. If you prefer to ask through PM please do and I will make a post so you can remain anonymous if it is something that everyone can learn from.
Looking forward to learning, teaching and mentoring along side each of you.
GM Poblano
GM Wise One |
Checking in.
This sounds fun. I have no preference for which I run; only that I do not run first. :)
Also I have never run SFS, but have played some. So I might be more rusty on that rule set than PFS. Hey, a chance to learn the rules better!
One question - Since we are going to run SFS, might we get credit for playing Into the Unknown?
GM Valen |
Grabbing a seat!
I've run these quests a few times face-to-face and twice via PbP. In many ways, I've found the starship combat quests to be the most difficult to run (although I also found the first and third to be challenging--each for VERY different reasons). *Sigh* - I guess that means I should take one of the starship quests as that area may be where I have the most learning to do.
Still, I'd gladly step aside if two other folks want them! (Pleeeeeeeease!)
GM MacShack |
I would prefer to run the second or third quest, but I am flexible.
Also, I have a question about character creation and race choices.
Additional races may be available if they are listed in the Additional Resources document, provided you own a copy of the appropriate source book. Other races are available as campaign boons; the Chronicle sheet on which such a boon is listed must be the first Chronicle sheet applied to a character.
So the main races (human, android, shirren, etc) from chapter 3 are available. But if I wanted to play, for example, a wrikreechee, could I? It's from Alien Archive, which is on the additional resources page. I have the PDF, but I don't know which races require a boon vs just having the source book.
GM Valen |
Also, how might we obtain a copy of Into the Unknown?
GM Valen |
I have a level 1 archaic dwarven lawyer.
But, for a number of reasons, I think I am probably better off just creating a new PC for this.
GM Valen |
I have no preference on which quest I run, but I would prefer not to run the first, if at all possible. I have a shirren gladiator soldier that I want to run for this.
I don't mind going first if others would rather take the starship quests! ; )

GM School is a special Case, Each of you will receive 'player' credit for this play through of Into the Unknown.
I cleared up the issue with selecting race. I'm going with a shirren xenoseeker mystic.
If you have any more questions please let me know.

Look at you helping each other

Could be fun ;) If only you could play Gulthwur

Alright everyone so far as I see we have the following Quests lined up.

Yeah, that's one reason I was leaning against the archaic dwarven lawyer. He has many similarities to Gulthwur, but doesn't play as well with others. : )
Station Ran my GM Valen
Okay, so I see I am first up. (I would have been okay taking a starship quest. Honest!)
So, anything I should know before I start (and am I correct that my PC won't show up until quest 2 {so I have time to make a new one or update my archaic dwarven lawyer}?).
For mustering, I like to start with a little pre-briefing teaser. Shall I go ahead and post that now?

GM Valen hang tight on the pre muster post for just a moment as I will get a pre-pre post up in a few.
You are correct your PC wont show up until quest two. We also are going to be doing assignments in the GM School main thread first before we start.
Aside from reading through the quest you will be running I recommend you also think about how you will run the NPCs. Specifically the interactions and mannerisms they might have. Also follow along with Redelia in the "main classroom" before you continue further.
GM Valen |
Looking ahead, is there any problem with using a pregen for these quests (or, for that matter, switching pregens in-between quests)?
I understand it is allowable for SFS play, but wasn't sure if that was the case for "class".

Level 1 Pregens are acceptable.
In this case though I believe you must use the same one for each of the quests.

A campaign has been created for the first Into the Unknown Quest: Station. It can be found here.
GM DamonLuos |
I also have created a campaign for my assigned quest, Into the Unknown: Adrift. Check it out here.

GM Poblano Pepper |
I have a question for the four of you.
Would you like to take the quests with just four player characters or would you like to run with a full table of six?
GM Poblano Pepper |
One though I have is 4 is a good number for ground operations but if we only have 4 on the ship we will leave stations unmanned.
I see your concern for Starship combat. But one way to counteract this is by changing roles between rounds.
One that works is having the engineer (hopefully trained in computers) start as a science officer get a really good scan in then switch to engineer or gunner. The pilot is a basic needed at most times sadly. The captain much like the engineer can change roles easily.
GM Poblano Pepper |
Changing roles in spaceship combat does not use an action it is something that takes place between rounds. After Gunnery but before engineering phase.
Changing RolesYou can switch between roles (or assume a role if you don’t already have one), but this change must occur at the start of a round before the engineering phase. You can switch to the captain or pilot role only if that role would otherwise be vacant (or if the character in that role is unable to take actions).
Oh, one quick question - Is there any issue if my mechanic has played one scenario and has 1 exp?
As long the character you use is level 1 that is fine just cannot have 3xp.
Redelia |
Hey, everyone, nice work on this week's assignment.
On Monday I will post instructions for getting maps set up.
I believe you are the only group with a student running the first quest. If it's alright with your mentor, you can get started; the instructions for making the map should go up by the time you need a map.

Yes go for it :) Muster post in your GM school Thread
GM Valen |
Will the following please report for duty here:
GM DamonLuos playing a Shirren Gladiator Soldier
GM MacShack playing a Shirren Xenoseeker Mystic
GM Wise One playing a Mechanic
GM Poblano playing something
GM Poblano Pepper |
Looks Wise One good but I recommend "hidding" the enemy mobs under the map or under a shape so the players do not see them just in case.
GM Poblano Pepper |
Perfect :)
GM Valen |
I will be heading off to scout camp with my son this weekend. I will be able to resume posting sometime Monday, US east coast time.
I have already dotted in with a new witchwyrd PC in the Adrift thread.
