Phoebee |
Sheyln 8s always a great choice says the bard.
Abaal Zadeir, Sword of Katapesh |
"Man, I don't play with snakes. I want to go home. And to do that we need to get the discs and stop the priest lady."
Whendel begins to put together ropes to make a harness. He cuts two 5' long pieces of rope. One he ties under his arms then loops the other end over the ropes leading across. The second he ties around his waste the loops it over the spanning rope. He then pulls himself up, crosses his legs over the rope and ties the end to the waste end to his waste loop and the hooking an elbow over the spanning rope ties the shoulder end to the shoulder loop.
He then drops his hold and lets the rope catch him to see if the two ropes hold him. If so, he will cross his ankles over the rope.
"This would be a lot easier if I could fly." "Cover me."
I don't know what checks you want. Just making safety ropes with simple square knots.
Abaal throws a large sack over the man's head.
"Perhaps if you flapped more." suggests Abaal.
Syllyn |
Syllyn snorts.
"Well, you did ask :)"
Whendel Walkner |
"What in the crazy Keleshite christmas did you do that for?" "I want you to keep enemies from attacking me or cutting the rope, not package me up as a meal for the snake lady." "Are we even speaking the same language???" "Maybe not, finally noting the culturally literal interpretation."
Whendel tests the ropes bouncing up and done and examining the knots. If they are going to fail, he would like it to be now while still over the balcony. I will make a general craft check, intelligence check
intelligence: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Phoebee |
Abaal, your bum looked especially tight and nice in that particular pose. Do you think you could repeat it for me, without putting a bag on the halfing, after all, he isnt as ugly as you are gorgeous.
GM RePete |
Whendel, I'm good with that. Not seeing anything in the rules for such a check anywhere. With the safety ropes, you'll still need a climb check to cross, but you won't fall to the ground if you fail.
"Маро бимиред ё бимиред." replies the creature quite flatly. Without another word, the beast staggers towards the climbing holes.
"Kill me or die."

Bold is up. The creature is going to move this round, so went ahead and moved it.

I'm assuming Phoebee translates its response...
Second Round Action
Flyn shakes his head. "I don't think it needs your rope..."

Might be a while before I can post again...might be able to post at our first port...
Phoebee |
The bard translates what the monster said.
She wants us to fight or die
Phoebee |
The bard begins to play an inspiring if eerie tune
Come, little children
I'll take thee away
Into a land
Of enchantment
Come, little children
The time's come to play
Here in my garden
Of shadows
Follow, sweet children
I'll show thee the way
Through all the pain and
The sorrows
Weep not, poor children
For life is this way
Murdering beauty and
Passions
Hush now, dear children
It must be this way
To weary of life and
Deceptions
Rest now, my children
For soon we'll away
Into the calm and
The quiet
Phoebee |
Remember she gives a +2 bonus to hit and damage
Flyndyngylyn |
GM: Since I'm before Phoebee, I assume her Inspired Courage wouldn't affect his second round shot but would add 6 damage to Flyn's third round shot that critted, is that right? Would've waited to post my third round shots but wanted to get it in before the ship leaves port...
Phoebee |
It looks like the naga may not be long for this world
Phoebee |
I like her song, take from Hocus Pocus
Syllyn |
"Right now I'm wishing for a grease spell. But I don't think it will matter with way Flyn keeps sticking the thing with arrows."
Abaal Zadeir, Sword of Katapesh |
Abaal, your bum looked especially tight and nice in that particular pose.
"Is that a reference to a homeless person? I will have you know that I do not own Whendel. He would undoubtedly not make for a very good slave. He does however look acceptable perhaps even slightly winning in spite of having a sack over his head. Wait- now I get the 'bum' reference. It is because he is wearing a sack, right?"
Flyn shakes his head. "I don't think it needs your rope..."
Flyn moves into the room where he has line of sight on the Naga and fires a cold iron arrow at the evil creature...
Abaal signs. "Let me guess: it cursed you, or perhaps said 'hello' and then look at you in humorous fashion. Where, I ask, is the glory in a shooting a woman in her pit?"
Syllyn |
"She specifically requested that we kill her. We are just honoring her request. Well, Flyn is, I guess. Would you rather be eaten? Probably swallowed alive and whole from the looks of her."
Phoebee |
She is kinda scary she says,
Whendel Walkner |
"That really was a catchy tune." "But I don't like the thought of being a snakes breakfast." "Can we all work towards a common goal here?" "I want go home before we become golden plated people." "And I don't want to let the Whispering Tyrant loose either."
Reaching for his crossbow and a bolt to load, "I would even take purple lightning over an undead invincible lich."
GM RePete |
While Phoebee begins to sing an encouraging song, Flyn lines up several shots and plant them deep in the beast. Whendel ties a safety harness and, thinking better of the idea, cuts the rope free.
With a howl the naga looks up to Flyn and launches four translucent darts at the archer. It's slow, deliberate motions make it seem as though something is holding it back.

Fourth Round Action
Flyn gives a fierce glare of resistance as he's struck by the naga's bolts and answers in turn with another two arrows...
To Hit: Dex+Base, Magic, Weapon Focus, PBS, Precise Shot, Deadeye Bowman, Point Blank Master, Deadly Aim, Flurry of Blows, Inspired Courage, Elevation
Damage: Strength, Magic, PBS, Deadly Aim, Inspired Courage
Longbow: 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 2 = 26

Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 = 12
Syllyn |
Opening his mouth wide he shrieks at the Naga, casting a spell that only it can hear.
DC 15 ear-piercing scream
damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8
Phoebee |
Do those attacks take the naga down?
Abaal Zadeir, Sword of Katapesh |
Fourth Round Action
How do you shoot through walls and around corners like that?
"Phoebee could you take a step to the left please? You'll get a better view of the apparently senseless slaying of a congenital amputee." Abaal says in an encouragingly deadpan tone. "You too Whendel though I fear your view will be blocked by a wall. Oh, if one of you could hold the door open as well."
And with that he steps outside and hopefully awaits their compliance. He smiles, and waves at the gilded dragon skeleton, and give the creature a thumbs up.

Flyndyngylyn wrote:Fourth Round ActionHow do you shoot through walls and around corners like that?
Obviously, I use magic arrows with homing beacons that cause my arrows to curve around objects directly to the nearest hostile target...seriously though, I mentioned in my second round attack post that I was posting from the ship and couldn't access the map properly to move my icon...hence, Flyn moves into the room where he has line of sight...
ETA: I just got back home from the cruise now and moved Flyn appropriately...
Phoebee |
Phoebee will take a 5' as a free action and up hold her inspiration but I want to see if the naga is gone before I declare the action action :)
Syllyn |
I moved Whendel into the room and onto the platform. If you would prefer to keep him out of the room, let us know and we can move your icon differently.
Abaal Zadeir, Sword of Katapesh |
Abaal looks along his proposed trajectory and deflates. Now Flyn was standing in his way. ;)
Phoebee |
Don't deflate, it is too gassy if you do :)
GM RePete |
As the arrows connect, the beast screams in pain and drops. The cracked door on the far side of the room closes suddenly, leaving the only light come from the door behind you.
Creature down.
A scenario specific combination of conjuration and bind magic had the creature stuck in the room. When the room was empty it was held in another 'plane' of sorts in an invulnerable sphere type of deal.
Whenever a living creature entered this room, it was released back into the room to fight. The process of returning to this plane suddenly caused it to be affected by "slow" for x number of rounds
Since Whendel cut the rope, I assume you will climb down to the lower area, walk across and climb back up
Making your way down to check out the creature, it vanishes in a puff of smoke....leaving no equipment of it's own behind. While somewhat difficult, as the coins slide about under your feet, you make it across to the otherside and back up to the second platform.
There are 50,000 gold coins piled up here....if you wished to try and gather them up. It would take you a while...
Do you just barge in to the next room? Or do something else on the far platform?
You hear a couple people moving within the next room....they seem to be away from the door
Syllyn |
perception, heroism: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 2 = 23
Syllyn has no preparation and ignores the coins.
"Could have been an illusion or a summoned creature. I think someone on the other side of the door is trying to delay us. The coins are probably not real."
disbelieve, heroism: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 10 + 2 = 24
Flyndyngylyn |
Flyn looks to Syllyn. "I've never seen arrows stick in an illusion nor seen an illusion cast magic bolts...and believe me, the bolts were quite real...I'll guess a summoned creature...glad we avoided that stinger, it looked nasty..."
Flyn will use his wand to heal Syllyn and himself a couple of times each...
CLW (Syllyn): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
CLW (Syllyn): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW (Flyn): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
CLW (Flyn): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Glancing at the door, the Elf says, "Since we saw the door close, we can assume Iramine and/or her cronies are in the next room...if one of you wishes to open the door, I'll be ready to fire as needed...knowing the Razmirans in general, and Iramine by reputation only, I don't think talking or negotiating is a viable option but I know some of you might feel otherwise..."
If one of his companions will open the door, Flyn will stand back from the door with his bow drawn and ready to fire if he feels threatened from what the room reveals...
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (13) + 17 = 30
Abaal Zadeir, Sword of Katapesh |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Since Whendel cut the rope, I assume you will climb down to the lower area, walk across and climb back up
Why in the Nine Hells would anyone do that?!?
acrobatics (running jump): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Glancing at the door, the Elf says, "Since we saw the door close, we can assume Iramine and/or her cronies are in the next room...if one of you wishes to open the door, I'll be ready to fire as needed...knowing the Razmirans in general, and Iramine by reputation only, I don't think talking or negotiating is a viable option but I know some of you might feel otherwise..."
Abaal feigns surprise... badly. "Really?"
"It is obvious that they shut the door to prevent themselves from being perforated...." Abaal says meaningfully while waiting for the others to climb up. "Having seen how bloodthirsty you elven zen monks are at least when compared to the cannibalistic gnoll raiders, and orc berserkers I know, I would almost consider throwing you in, slamming the door shut, and coming back in an hour."
"However considering they are insane cultists of an evil pretend deity I could not be so cruel. And you should not be so hasty. While you all have been climbing" Abaal says it like it was a curse, "they have no doubt been using whatever false magics they have available to them. If we rush in now we will undoubtedly encounter them ready for us, however waiting also proves problematic. I suggest caution."
Flyndyngylyn |
Flyn shrugs. The Zen master he studied under taught him that evil, when recognized, must be excised swiftly. Master Wanyi always said, When sure of yourself, strike first, strike hard, and you will likely live to see another day...
The ranger/monk eyes Abaal and sighs. "A bloodthirsty Elven Zen monk and a pacifist Keleshite warrior...what a pair we make...
"So what would you suggest? Doesn't seem the Razmirans have been here too long...Iramine may or may not already have what she came for and no telling what she might do with it so waiting too long is fraught with peril...there's only one entrance and they know we're here, so obviously they'll be prepared no matter what we do. Tell me your plan..."
Phoebee |
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14 perceptio n
Phoebee |
How are we doing on spells and such?
Abaal Zadeir, Sword of Katapesh |
I'm good. Abaal has all the spells he started the day with.
"Perhaps you can use your third eye upon the door to see if it is trapped?" Abaal says to Flyn.
Phoebee |
Can we tell by the sound about how many people might be in the room?
Flyndyngylyn |
Flyn nods to Abaal. "Accessing third eye..."
The Elf will check the door for traps and locks...
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28
...and will then check for tracks to try to determine how many passed this way...
Survival: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
GM RePete |
You heard what sounds like two people in the room. The tracks are unhelpful in determining the precise number
Door does not appear trapped
Phoebee |
Are we ready? she whispers
Syllyn |
"Ready!"
Whendel Walkner |
I did not intend to cut the two ropes across the pit. I meant to cut the ropes I used to make the harness. But, I guess it doesn't matter.
Whendel knots up his rope and rigs it to climb down. He then uses the cut black rope to climb up the far side, using his climbing kit to aid him...
climbing down a knotted rope: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 = 10
climbing up the black rope: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 30' at 5' a round, do I have to make 6 checks?
Abaal Zadeir, Sword of Katapesh |
I think there's a wall to brace against so Whendel probably doesn't need to knot anything. He can probably take 10 and attempt to accelerate his climb speed. Characters are supposed to roll checks for each move action they take and each time they are struck while climbing. Regardless, it does take time for everyone to cross the boring way. ;)
"Very well." Abaal pulls the door open.
Phoebee |
Know 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
I know about that level of Hell she says.
In this infernal realm the damned watch the feasting of devils from cages of ice afloat glaciers and frozen oceans; here the archdevil Baalzebul holds dominion.
Abaal Zadeir, Sword of Katapesh |
"You don't think the door is a gate to another plane do you?" "I would hate to end up on the 7th layer of hell."
Whendel readies his crossbow.
"I hope not. I always get sick on planes."
