As Amiamble conjures a cold punch from his hand, what would be a shredding flurry of ice slivers blasts forward as a corkscrew maypole ribbon of cold. It has the same effect, still destroys a section of the Wall of Fire standing defiantly against your intrusion.

What lies beyond is a congregation of conflagration.

The hellish light of a huge lake of lava lights this immense cavern 60' high. To the east, a wide ledge of stone rises out of the lava, creating a ten-foot-high cliff above the molten rock. Sprawling atop this ledge, half- embedded in the rock wall and looming over the molten lake below, is a colossal skeleton, fossilized by time, of a vast snake-like monster. A deep thrumming noise, like a colossal heartbeat, reverberates through the rock, the skeleton’s ribs forming a cathedral-like dome while its skull hangs over the surface of the lake below.

Standing before you directly is one of the powerful efreeti that harassed Amiamble earlier, before retreating. Behind him, another.

Mahdi, Aldebert, Pent:

On the eastern ledge float two large janni captain archers, waiting. A third archer awaits further to the south, on the same grand ledge.

The third efreeti is waiting to the south, supporting another Wall of Fire blocking a southern entrance.

It is apparent that the large efreeti are now huge.

Aldebert, Pent:

The efreeti are actually large, to your magicked eyes. Also, the skulking janni captains have enlarged themselves as well.

And last, but not least, a 22-foot-tall muscular efreeti with crimson skin, smoldering eyes, huge black horns, and a fierce and arrogant expression. He wears an elaborate bronze breastplate that is scorched by flame and still seems to be on fire in places. He favors elaborate gold and brass jewelry and wields a huge, burning scimitar.

"You will regret ever stepping into Xotani's Grave. I will see to it personally that all you hold dear is slowly ripped from you, and gutted before your bleeding eyes. Run now, and I will still find you. Each of your faces is etched in my mind."

A small but audible squeeing of a balloon slowly releasing its air can be heard atop the Carpet of Flying, towards the rear. Literally.

"Pardon me. That was wholly involuntary. Like the gases in my rump want nothing to do with this conflict. Can't say as I blame them."

"Ami, what are you-- oh."

The scene unfolds. The efreet stand there. Jhahvul booms his threat. Mahdi hangs in mid-air a fraction of a second, having not quite anticipated the end of their journey so very quickly. But then he moves.

"You're the one responsible for what happened to my brother? Then you may save your threats. I will not be running."

A short flight forward, putting himself dangerously near the front line, but Mahdi doesn't care. His eyes burn; his fingers sketch a shape, and a blast of rainbow light explodes from his hands, filling a significant part of the chamber beyond.

Otah watches Mahdi and Ami's fury unfold in awe. Then his brow furls as he realizes the error of his guilt.

"I thought you were out of powerful spells!" he whispers towards the fire elemental, unsure if Mahdi can even hear him.

The northern section this grand chamber lights up in Mahdi's magical might!!

Mahdi, Knowledge(Arcana) DC 25:

Your first encounter with a Wishwarp! This area has been saturated in the magical essence at the heart of Wishes, and the effects are visceral.

The abuse of wishes causes a strain on reality—yet another reason why genies generally avoid granting too many wishes to mortals, and why they usually allow the wish to follow the path of least resistance and try to avoid granting wishes that unmake or transform reality too greatly. Most uses of wish do not put undue strain on the world—it’s only when one tries to use a wish to produce effects greater than those outlined in the spell description that the stress becomes severe. A single powerful wish with a greater effect (such as wishing for a legendary artifact, wishing to raise several long-dead bodies to life, or wishing an entire city into a bottle) generally doesn’t cause a problem. But when many such wishes are uttered and granted in close proximity (both in time and locale), there is an increased chance of causing distortions in reality. These distortions are known as wishwarps.

Caster Level Check Failure will provoke an unusual circumstance- either the spell is diminished, or it's heightened. Either way, it also punishes the spellcaster with non-lethal damage...

Blue janni captain suddenly looks down, aware of something no one else is, until the three of you witness a huge violet whale erupt from the ground, swallowing the janni whole, before sinking back into the ground.

Jhavhul looks slightly irritated, as two of his henchjinn suddenly fall away.

Mahdi wrote:

"Oh, you have a brother, do you? And one of my worshippers slaughtered him like a market pig, so you're here to avenge him? I would have thought your kind would have been happy to strip the meat from his corpse, like hyenas."

Purple efreeti brushes off the multi-colored coconut cake sprinkles emanating from Amiamble's baker hand, undamaged by the potential cold.

Yeen loses his attack on the Green efreeti, as it sinks beneath the river's flow below.

Amiamble wrote:

The genie begins to belly laugh. "It's not I who try and hide behind magic, little runt-man!! You ride a cat into battle? You lack nobility. Will I break your heart slaughtering your beast, like the elemental and his brother?"

The efreeti jump into action.

Purple efreeti moves up, and strikes at the cat, with magnificent reach.

Aldebert, being back a bit, must double move to get anywhere. So double move he does - moving into position and provoking I suspect (if he's got Combat Reflexes). He acts like he cannot see the invisible Janni to his east.

Aldebert charges into the Grand Chamber, allowing the Purple efreeti to take a swing at him in passing.

The Abadarian remains quadrupled, for the wide miss by the genie.

As Aldebert floats 10' above the surface of the magma, he provokes yet another attack... from the Magma. Tentacle-like ropes surge from below, attempting to grapple the halfling and his mount.

Aldebert loses one of his mirrors, and avoids the Grapple, while poor Gretiem the Unmirrored, is wrapped in fiery ropes, 'freezing' him in place.

All of those witnessing the halfling's fate are now privileged to the knowledge that this Lake of Xotani's Grave has a heat-seeking range of at least 10' up, likely no higher than 20', as the southern Red efreeti seems untouched. Further preemptive clarification- Purple efreeti is standing on a ledge, at 10', and hasn't been bothered by the lava tentacles... That, or the lake doesn't like non-followers of Jhavhul. Who's to say..? Apparently Jhavhul is to say...

"Hah!! Xotani sends its regards!! Ah, but it looks like you're sensible enough to have protected yourselves against the blistering heat, eh? Well, my fire is at least good enough to close your spellcasting eyes for a little while."

Another Wall of Fire erupts in Amiamble's and Yeen's faces, cutting off Otah and Aldebert from the rest of you.

Otah, Aldebert:

You witness Jhavhul click his heels together, Boots coming together for some purpose. He then reaches into his belt pouch for something...

With a fresh target not yet engaged in melee, the janni archers find their moment, and Aldebert is assailed in his saddle!!

Mahdi brings swift retribution to two of Jhavhul's minions, one collapsing on the spot, dead from poison, the other winked off the plane. Amiamble does his best with a cold-based attack, but the efreeti seems protected himself. Otah closes with Purple, and bleeds him solidly. Pent manages to pull Jhavhul's Wall of Fire down, but in doing so, subjects the entire Chamber to the sound of nails scratching down a chalkboard.

Instead, the gnome abandons the Carpet. In a quiet pop Move Action to Dimensional Hop, per Travel Domain, he reappears over the same ledge as the janni captain failing to escape Mahdi's encasing. From this landing spot, the gnome feels secure in his next action- a Pronouncement.

"The only voice that should echo through these halls is Sarah's!! None of this beastly abomination!! What's dead should stay dead. We're not meant to desecrate graves, only leave it in peace!! Jhavhul, you've brought misery to hundreds!! You've done enough!! You've done too much!! You're done for!!"

With that out of his system, Pent utters an Ancient Word of Worship, praising Sarenrae for Her Beneficence. As he points a knobby finger, his eyes lay sight on the winged women at the back.

"Almah?" Within the time-space of the single name, Pent realizes he needs to shift his plan.

It causes Pent to more strategically point his finger. Focal point 40' out that avoids involving the Erinyes, all of them.

"ክብር!!"

Otah avoids an incoming strike, while slaying Purple in return. Aldebert uses one of Abadar's many gifts to release himself and Gretiem from the tangle of fires, smiting Jhavhul over his shoulder. Pent pops into the chamber, sans carpet, and declares his goddess's presence quite vocally.

Jhavhul doesn't shudder in the least, as the gnome's silly declaration carries utterly no weight against a being as powerful as himself, and not a single dragonfly attempts to orbit the genie's personal space.

In a time dilation that Amiamble, Otah, Yeen, and Mahdi are all able to witness, a pinpoint of blacklight expands into a grand view of the Astral Plane. Across the expanse, another pinpoint opens to show the space immediately in front of Jhavhul. He moves upwards 10 feet adjacent to the fire mage, and then 40 feet down the chasm above the lava. If the flying women want to get to the mage right now, they will have to get through the large dwarf and his reach weapon.

He looks at Jhavul and wishes that Yeen could drink from the monster's neck blood, and that Sarenrae could exult in victory over those who would do evil under the sun's light, but he knows he cannot forsake his brother.

Ami casts a spell Heal. and then he spurs Yeen to move around their foes and close to Aldebert, where he will touch his brother. Provoking from 1 devilress and Jhavul.

"You are the better of us. Do not die here. Haleen and I need you," Ami says, pushing his hand to touch his brother and release the spell he cast earlier.

"I do not accept this!" the wizard snaps, to nobody in particular, as most of the focus is elsewhere.

He clenches his massive fists, then thrusts his hands outward to Jhahvhul and the erinyes alike. A burst of blinding white light erupts over Jhavhul and two of the winged figures.

Burst of radiance, Jhahvhul and Green and Purple need to make a reflex save, DC 23, or be blinded. Blinded or not, evil creatures still take 5d4 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 4, 4) = 15 damage. On a save, still dazzled. Duration of blinded/dazzled is 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds.

Otah flies like the wind, engaging Jhavhul in flank with the halfling rider, striking the efreeti hulk once.

Otah:

No words, just the feeling of a Sigh emanating from Zenzirad, as she tastes Jhavhul's blood for the first, and hopefully not last, time.

She also heals you again, just enough healing surge to make sure all of your wounds are dismissed outright.

Cure Moderate Wounds: 2d8 + 15 ⇒ (3, 3) + 15 = 21

Aldebert responds to Jhavhul's masterful blade strokes, but fails to find the efreeti's hide, despite the dwarf's flanking. Gretiem is more successful, tearing at his thigh once.

Both Amiamble and Pent approach the center of battle, doing their best to heal those who bleed too freely. Only the halfling cat rider takes pains for his effort, receiving a mighty slap of Jhavhul's scimitar.

Mahdi commands the strange magical circumstances to sit down and be quiet, thrusting his red-hot hands at the cluster of winged and horned, seeking to blind them and pain them. What results is a murder of red crows with white-hot beaks erupting mid-air about Jhavhul's head, pecking at the efreeti's and the erinyes' eyes.

The erinyes resort to their own, inherent magics to stave off the Assault on Jhahvul. Blue swoops in and tries to afflict those surrounding her Master, but only ends up injuring herself with the magic surging through her body.

Red joins Blue, and succeeds where her sister fails. Hell freezes over, as a blizzard of black fennel seeds swirls about the erinyes, encompassing every member of the Scourge, save the fire elemental creeping along the ceiling in the back. Otah, Pent, Amiamble, and Aldebert- a Will Save DC 19 please. Failure, and you take 5d8 ⇒ (6, 8, 1, 4, 1) = 20 points of damage, and you become Sickened for 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds. Success for half damage, and no Sickened condition.

Spellcraft DC 19:

The Red she-devil cast Unholy Blight. Blue suffered Spell Failure.

Green and Purple deal with Otah.

Purple circles Jhavhul, and rips her face off, exposing her fleshless skull to the dwarf. The mere casting of her spell makes her shriek in pain. Green rubs at her eyes, but joins Purple in the same psychological warfare, dislocating her jaw, and uttering a banshee wail.

Spellcraft DC 19:

Both erinyes are casting Fear against the large dwarf. From the looks of it, Both Purple's casting was Enhanced by the Wishwarp in the Grand Chamber.

In the faces of sheer terror, Otah doesn't flinch, not one bit. He remains in position, mid-air, flanking with Aldebert, as if the erinyes were simply upset women yelling at him.

Otah:

Zenzirad is currently Dominating you. You will be unable to retreat, until Jhavhul is dead...

Sense Motive DC 15:

Otah should have easily succumb to the terror of the erinyes, but he's currently under another influence, another enchantment...

With his Slaughter of Erinyes having done what they can to support him, Jhavhul finally acts.

"Enough of this. I have better things to do than to continually swat at gadflies. Die already." The mirth in his voice has diminished greatly. His first victim, as promised, is Amiamble the Mighty Healer...

Mahdi doesn't sense whatever there is to be sensed.... but he does see Amiamble fall.

"......oh, you bastard," the fire elemental breathes, in a voice like a bellows. "Aldebert! We'll raise him. I swear it. Now focus!!"

With that Mahdi forces all his will on Jhahvul, determined to strip him of whatever magics power him, through sheer brute force if necessary....
