Hello there!
This is GM PDK, and I’ll be your GM for the following two adventures:
HELL's REBELS:
Book 1: “In Hell's Bright Shadow” Legal Character 2–4
Book 2: “Turn of the Torrent” Legal Character 5–7
I enjoy Play-by-Post, because we can get a lot done with plenty of time for roleplay if we keep a relatively tight pace.
I am hoping that we can keep moving throughout this averaging 2-3 posts a day. I will try to communicate to all of you when I am hitting a crazy time.
I am hoping that you communicate with me your crazy times as well. If you have any conventions, sick times, crazy vacations scheduled during this, let me know.
Bot Me Spoilers
I would like for you all to take a moment to create bot me spoilers for yourselves and your combat companions. Include your go-to rolls, favorite attacks, and strategies. Keep it very simple there and low risk, as I will not play the character for you.
PLAYER SELECTION:
I already have a few heroes signed up for this, but I have room for about 3 more. Please note that both of these adventures happen in urban settings, in the city of Kintargo, Cheliax. The adventures are written from the perspective of Chaotic Good heroes, so lawful and neutral characters need not apply. If you're not NG, CG or CN, please do not apply. Preference will be given to Chaotic Good heroes that fit the setting the best. Please read the Hell's Rebels Player's Guide for more details.
DO NOT DOT THIS THREAD WITH THE WRONG CHARACTER. This is not first come, first served. When you apply to play the two above-listed adventures, use the proper online PFS character avatar you will use in actual play for Book 1 "In Hell's Bright Shadow," and provide three direct links to PbP posts you've made in the past which best demonstrates your style of roleplay.
Your online PFS character avatar should contain all stats in a concise manner. When I click on it I should at first glance be able to see your whole stat block like this.
This is for existing Classic PFS characters with the above listed both level ranges. Although the ideal scenario would be to bring a level 4 character in Book 1 and have him level to 5th for Book 2, please note that both of the above adventures can accommodate level 4 and level 7 pregens, respectively. Please note that you cannot play both adventures with a pregen: one of the above 2 adventures needs to use one of your own, pre-existing Classic PFS character. Therefore, if you are using a pregen for Book 1, in your pregen online avatar's application post you should provide a link to your level 5-7 Classic PFS PC you intend to use for Book 2.
This recruitment thread will be opened long enough for you to take your time and provide the above information properly. I want to see quality not quantity. But don't procrastinate as selection could occur as early as in 5 days' time if I reach the critical mass of great applicants.
I will handpick the players based on their roleplay examples first, and then by which character they apply with. Those who are picked will be referred to the Discussion thread for detailed PC / PFS Chronicle Sheet info.
If you have any questions on the above, PM me before you make your application post.
Good luck!
Andor' Katsu |
Hello GM PDK, this GM Nowruz. ;-) Thank you for the invitation to join the game.
I would like to play Andor Katsu whose story and information you find in his profile. The character has roots in Cheliax as his parents are originally Chelish and he grew up near Korvosa so that it would be possible to create a backstory which explains why he moved back to Kintargo and currently lives there.
Have a great week!
GM PDK |
Thank you all for your applications so far!
Please finalize your choice of character and provide examples of your fine roleplaying skills as per the recruitment guidelines above. When you have settled on a choice I will open up the Discussion thread and request additional PFS info for your characters.
Huzzah!
Roldala Chainbiter |

I'll go ahead and put forth Roldala Chainbiter, a former Korvosan pitfighter with a serious chip on her shoulder regarding her former Chelish masters.
She's currently wrapping up a scenario, but it'll take her to level 4 once it's finished.
Preparing to ship out to Cheliax for the Society
Roldala Victorious!
Roldala nonplussed by a ghoul's "creative problem solving"
Brayne |

I've found myself some free time, so I'll throw an application in as well! Brayne is an unusually light skinned chaotic neutral half-orc who was brought up in a noble household but curiousity has him meddling in the dark-arts and (secret) worship of Lamashtu for the sake of knowledge and power. (Barbarian Oracle)
Example of post that I think best represent my PBP style are below:
Brayne hates the outdoors.
Kelumur thinks fast in combat!
Azrael dungeon crawls a secret basement.
Notes of consideration: Brayne is level 5, but I may try to get him into a scenario to up him to level 6 before book 2 begins. I am not a fan of using pre-gens, and will likely put my GM blob to use to create a Skinwalker monk(?) at level 2, if I am chosen of course. I have the concept written down so it should not take more than a few days for me to put the character up.
Also I'm quite interested to see how elements of the AP will be applied into PBP as I've started running Giantslayer AP for my weekly live game and am considering about translating it into PBP.

Are you set on bringing Gray Son? I'm a bit worried about bringing a LG with a gang of CNs... it is also NOT the AP / adventure where you should bring your lawful types... perhaps a few choice examples of his roleplay would help me get a feel of what kind of character he will be. Just provide a few links to examples of his interactions with others. Thanks!
EDIT -- I *really* don't want to be the guy writing this on your chronicle sheet, basically:
"Ex-Monks
A monk who becomes nonlawful cannot gain new levels as a monk but retains all monk abilities."
Gray Son |
The description of LG states:
combining a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. Telling the truth, keeping one's word, helping those in need, and speaking out against injustice are all paramount behaviors of the lawful good, and a character of this alignment hates to see the guilty go unpunished.
If a law is unjust it can and should be challenged :)
GM PDK |
Ok cool! monk/urog/vig... pretty rad combo. Wow. That will be interesting!
Gray Son: thank you for your roleplay examples provided in the CORE thread and character plans for book 1 and 2. Go ahead and fill the info in the 'Discussion' tab with the character you will use in book 1 (i.e. level 2-4). Thank you.
PS: since you're playing both in CORE and Classic tables simultaneously, you will need to pay extra care and attention to the posts you make and not blur the lines of plot knowledge between your two characters. When in doubt re-read the posts preceding the one you're about to make just to make sure or PM me to ask any question. Welcome to the Classic/Standard table!

ANNOUNCEMENT
Expected date for classic table start: Fri, April 27.
Let me know if some of you will need time beyond this upcoming weekend to fill the form in the discussion thread; if so we'll push back the start date by a few more days to give you all enough time to come up with the chronicles, etc. (I know many of you are wrapping up scenarios)

It'll be fun playing on the same side of the table at the very least!

As you've all noted, Kardess had to bow out due to real life getting in the way. I'd like to extend my thanks to him for a splendid run so far, especially due to the challenging LN alignment his character had to adapt unto the more... chaotic nature of this scenario.
Thank you Kardess, and remember that there's a nice warm seat for you at Laria's coffeehouse if things get back to normal!
Take care, and farewell!

Edmund DeCarth |
Looks great Edmund! welcome to the campaign! since this is for book 1 (level 2-4) and 2 (level 5-7), you may use a pregen for if you don't have a level 5-7 PC in that range.
I'll have a 5-7, but its a Paladin... although, a very non-traditional paladin. We can cross that bridge when we get a little bit closer. If Kardess was able to manage the scenario as LN, then 'Sir Ischell de Ivocus" has a chance as well... and PLENTY of history with Cheliax.
GM PDK |
Note to Elmund and the others: based on the nature of the Chronicle Sheet, when you get it, you might want to assign book 2 to the same character you played in book 1. To that effect, instead of playing a level 7 legal pregen or a different level 5-7 character, I will inquire to the powers that be if they could allow you all to play a 'modified campaign mode' in which you simply use the pregen that is nearest to your current level 2-4 book 1 character and simply 'reskin the pregen to your name,' using the same avatar and all... that, or allow a modified campaign mode in which I allow you to level up your level 2-4 PC at various interval until the end of book 2, where it resets to its proper 'chronicle modified levels'.
If you got the above on the first read, or tenth read, I tip my hat to you. As I'm not sure if that made any sense. I welcome feedback and suggestion, as this is very much a group decision in the making, and only if that suits everyone.

PDK —
I’m not sure that I’m getting what you’re asking me to chime in upon.
Are you earnestly planning on eventually running the whole adventure for these players? If so, just declare it to be campaign mode using characters that just happen to resemble the ones that they’ll be applying all this to in PFS. Cmpaign mode makes all of this easier.
