Holan-Ji peers over the top of Hep's head at the text, resting one big hand on her thin shoulder.

"Hmm... Uh huh. Nicely done, Hep," he congratulates he. Though less on "reading" the text than tricking Zith.

"Transcribe it? Why not just take it? This is a library. Just get Ms. Boring upstairs to sign it out to ya'."

Maria interjects, "We were very specifically told we could not take anything with us. I think transcribing would be ideal. I'll begin working on it and translate it at the same time, if I can."

She sits on the floor with two new journals and begins her work, not waiting for Hepsubia to finish her attempt. After all, there is plenty of space to work, even if there is no desk.

Shrugging, she gives up her attempt to translate and focuses on copying the book word for word and symbol for symbol.

"Er..." Effie bites her lip, a discomfiting thought occurring to her.

"Have we got time for that Maria? It's a pretty hefty looking tome. Maybe... maybe the librarian doesn't actually know about this place? And if she doesn't know about it, she can't really say that we can't... well... check things out from here. Right? I really don't think the azata is Concordance. I think this is just a convenient bolt-hole.

Besides, they stole from us first. And we can return the book and anything else we borrow once we've done with our mission, no problem."

Effie looks at her colleagues for approval.

Come on Zith... sometimes you gotta be pragmatic.

She stands and puts the book back, caressing the binding.

Packing her gear up she moves to the exit, ”What is our plan to gain access to a closed library again? If I recall it was going to be unusable for several weeks. Or did we have a different lead on Jamilla? I wasn’t paying much attention to what else you all found.”

She glances over at the rubble, wondering what could have caused it.

Season of Ghosts

Now having found information pointing you to yet another location in the city, you spend a short bit of time discussing the ethics of simply taking the Codex with you versus taking the time to copy down all of the information it contains.

During this time, those of you with little interest in such discussions notice one last thing in the rubble - a smashed chest. Picking through the pieces you discover a rather nice-looking chain shirt and a stoppered vial.

Spellcraft - Vial (DC 18):

Spellcraft - Chain Shirt (DC 20):

It's a +1 Cloudburst Chain Shirt.

As you finish up here within this Fundamental Chamber, you now have to decide what to do next. While the location seems clear, wasn't most of the Azure Hall supposed to be closed for at least another week or more? How would you even get in? Zithembe suggests that perhaps your host might have some ideas - or perhaps you can try seeing if you can talk or sneak your way inside.

Eventually, he gets so bored that he starts shadow boxing and doing calisthenics. I mean, you gotta burn off all those calories somehow so you don't scare the girlies away.

When Maria returns the book to the shelf, he too returns to the group and seconds Zithembe's suggestion to return to Jairo's. "As much as I like these fancy duds, we probably ought to give 'em back. Ooh, and maybe he's got some of that candied gooseberry, and that mint tea."

Though a few of you may have yet to inspect the magical items found within the rubble, it does seem as though returning to Jairo's residence to ponder your next move might be prudent.

But things are sadly never quite that easy for Pathfinders. You hear the sound of footsteps from up above and then see four bronze-skinned women dressed in chain shirts and brightly colored tabards descending the stairs. Tall and muscular, each carries a heavy looking sap in their hands.

"You there, you are Pathfinders, are you not?" one of them queries. "A group matching your description and carrying the title of Pathfinder was seen earlier today at the Grand Symposium Gala. You are wanted for questioning regarding the theft several jewels from one Fairuza Bereket. Please, come with us."

Perception *or* Sense Motive (DC 24):

These women certainly appear to be wearing uniforms of the city guard...but something's off. All of the guards you have seen have been impeccably groomed and dressed but these uniforms are rumpled, as though they were hastily donned.

"We serve Sultan Zafer XXXVIII, the divine and munificent ruler of Armun Kelisk," the leader replies to Effie. All we ask is that you come with us for questioning so that we can get to the bottom of this matter."

The four seem quite at ease and confident and Zithembe detects no aura of evil about any of them. However, the Grandfrogger rather astutely points out their hurried state of dress, strongly implying that they aren't who they appear to be. There's a pause as they glance at each other, then the leader sighs. "I told them they'd be too smart to fall for this. Time to do things the hard way!"

As the four raise their saps, it becomes apparent that Holan-Ji's gonna get his wish after all.

But apparently she can't do any better as the weapon whizzes past Hepsubia's noggin. "Bah! Come on, lend me a hand!" ...but apparently these guys got up on the wrong side of the bed or something, because Yellow also misses!

Blue rushes down the stairs and past Holan-Ji and Hepsubia in a blur of movement - quite literally, actually - and stops adjacent to Zithembe. Odd...the blurring of his movements only seemed to occur while he was moving along; it ceases the moment he comes to a stop.

Holan-Ji & Hepsubia may take AoOs against Blue as he moves. The strange blurring effect that happens as Blue moves grants him Concealment so there's a 20% Miss Chance to strike him.

"Sorry, but orders are orders," Blue remarks apologetically as he takes a swing at the shabti...

Blue vs. Zithembe (Sap): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

...and misses!

"...Seriously?" gawps Green at his allies' incompetence. "Do I have to do everything?" Green also comes barreling down the stairs, past Holan-Ji and Hepsubia, to stand between Blue and Yellow. As before, his movements while actually moving are blurred but the blurring ceases when he skids to a stop.

Holan-Ji & Hepsubia may also take AoOs against Green as he moves to his current position. Same as Blue, Green has Concealment during his movement and so there's a 20% Miss Chance to your AoOs.

This one sets his sights on Holan-Ji...

Green vs. Holan-Ji (Sap): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

...and, to the surprise of no one, misses.

Season of Ghosts

Hepsubia vs. Concealment (20% Miss, Low Misses): 1d100 ⇒ 84

Hepsubia manages to thump Blue on the back of his head as he moves past, though only just!

Though a bit surprised by the speed at which the suli move, Holan-Ji isn't worried. Inclined to show off a bit, he changes into his FINAL FORM (or is it?), shifting into a ferocious dire tiger!

Sensing no real malice from the suli Effie opts for a less violent approach than her gun, conjuring a pool of grease underneath Blue, Green and Red.

GM Stuff:

Blue Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Green Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Red Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Green manages to keep his feet! Blue immediately slips and falls on his face and Red flails about comically for a moment and almost manages to keep her balance...but then she too loses her footing and falls. Taking advantage of their predicament, Zithembe taps into the spirits of the Plane of Air and proceeds to clock Blue in the back of the head using the flat of his blade.

With Blue prone on the ground Maria fires a blunt arrow at the next closest standing target, which is Green. Her arrow hits him square in the chest, winding him a bit from the force of it!

Shaking his head, the Grandfrogger lashes an ice-coated tongue at the prone Blue, easily connecting! Blue gasps with surprise as the spell saps his energy...but the Grandfrogger notices that it doesn't actually seem to do quite as much damage as he'd have expected.

Psst...Hep! You still need to actually take your turn :P

Season of Ghosts

Hepsubia once again fails to strike Red as Red gets up, but at least Red can't hit anything either!

Zithembe easily reaches down and thwocks the prone Blue, knocking him out but also actually doing some real damage this time as well.

Hoping to help her comrades finish the job more quickly, Effie starts up a rousing little performance as she draws her pistol.

Holan-Ji tries to swat Green as Green moves out of the grease puddle. He then means to go for Blue but finds that Zithembe has already taken care of that one...

Going to shift your attacks to Red since she's also right there. Neither crit confirms but these guys don't have a lot of HP.

...so instead, he goes for Red, giving her a painful *CRONCH* on the arm, though he does try his best to pull his punches with his teeth. He then rakes her with a claw, which puts her down and unconscious - albeit bleeding just a bit. The Very Large Tiger then moves on to Yellow, swatting her down and grappling her. This, combined with watching Red and Blue be pummeled senseless, is finally enough to break Yellow's will.

"Stop, stop, stop! Stand down, Olvys, stand down!" she screams. "We surrender!"

Green seems to weigh his options...and then drops his sap before slowly raising his hands into the air.

Combat Over!

Yellow glares at all of you and it seems unlikely that you'll be able to get anything further out of her. Green, on the other hand, is a slightly different story.

"They only tell us what we need to know," he finally speaks, with a heavy sigh. "We're not high up enough in the organization to know what Jamila is doing or where she's going next.
