Fun fact: I killed a PC in my home game this weekend because he failed a climb check. And I always recommend that players should raise their climb skill to at least a +4 or +5. It's the minimum you need to climb with a rope against a wall.

I get themselves a pair of boot of the cat.

Partially composed of natural cavern, partially remnants of long-buried buildings and foundations, the ceiling of this dank, 40-foot-tall cavern is supported by several stone pillars. Water drips from numerous spots in the ceiling, pattering into a fungus-choked lake below. Here and there, islands and beaches rise from the sides of the dark lake, but these areas of doubtful land are clogged with hideous fungi of pale yellow, bone white, bruise purple, and other noxious hues.

Tuich eyes the slope they just descended. "I wonder if there's another way out. The climb back up could be tricky. We should've thought to secure a rope up there."

Just to clear things up. Everyone except Jeffery is at the bottom of the sloping passage over looking the underground cavern from a ledge 20 feet up. Jeffrey is on a small ledge 20 feet below you next to the water. Vincent auto succeeds at going down the sloped passage (DC 5). However anyone wanting to get down to Jeffrey would need a DC 15 climb check unless someone has a rope.

A frown appears on Jeffrey smiling face, but it's not present for long. "I've got a rope and grappling hook we can use to get back out!"

With Tuich's rope lowered it doesn't take much to climb down. Though not everyone can fit on Jeffrey's tiny ledge at once. The Pathfinders have a choice to make. If they wish to explore the cavern they will have to swim the foul smelling waters which appear to be full of a black stringy fungus.

Know nature DC 14:
None of the fungus here looks toxic to the touch, but you probably don't want to drink the water.

The water doesn't appear to be poisonous, but the smell still makes you cautious about drinking any. Curiously Vincent's spell does seem to bring his attention to an unusually large violet mushroom on the shore to the south.

"Water's free of poison, at least. Who knows what else there is, though. Also, that large violet mushroom on the shore shows up as poisonous to me. Maybe venomous. Some sort of mushroom monster? Perhaps it will explode? Maybe we just shouldn't eat it?" Vincent peers into the distance at it.

Anyone have a clever idea here? Otherwise I think we're just carefully swimming across.

One of our local GMs used to stress that we didn't have to go everywhere and defeat everything. Sometimes discretion is the better part, etc. Let's hope this isn't one of those cases.

Vyk swims to the first pillar/rock where he can rest, but is still in the water. Besides the slightly bad smell he doesn't feel any negative effects from the water.

If you want to get out of the water you can head to the south shore, where the poisonous fungus is. The island on the north side or the larger north shore.

Jeffrey swims a bit closer to the north shore, but keeps some distance to avoid aggravating the fungi. He tries to get a look of what else might be on the shore, swimming back and forth to check the shore from different angles.

Could we please pick up the pace? I find it incredibly hard to stay motivated to post in this game with the pace we're moving at, even though I really like the game itself and the characters.

As Jeffrey approaches the shore he notices the fungi start getting agitated again, but they still do not come near the water. He also notices what look like human remains in what may have been black leather armor, though it seems to be mostly decayed. What hasn't seemed to tarnish is the shiny sword that Jeffrey spots lying next to the corpse.

Again waiting to see if you wish to fall back or attack the fungi.

"Guys, there's a corpse here!" Jeffrey announces to his comrades. "I think we should inspect it, but maybe we can use some ranged attacks to take out the fungi first?"

"Careful!" Tuich calls out to Jeffrey as she moves to the water's edge and points at one of the fungi. "They move and get excited when you get close to them!"

She pauses to think for a minute, then calls out to him again. "I used up all my really long-range powers chasing down Crove. I can probably reach that one," she says, pointing to the southernmost one, "but I don't think that will help you?"

Still, she squats down, selects three small rocks and rises again. Cupping them in her hands, she closes her eyes and murmurs "మేజిక్ స్టోన్!" A brief glow escapes from between her hands, then she unships the sling she keeps tucked in her waist sash, sets one of the stones, twirls and releases the projectile.

Now is when she needs Spiritual Weapon, sigh. I'm finding it tough to judge distance on this map because the grid is hidden over most of it. I think from the water's edge to the southern fun guy is about 30' and it looks about 50' to the one standing on the mini-island in the middle? Presuming the other "rocks" aren't really stalagmites or columns blocking the shot, she'll do a trial at the one on the tiny island.

Tuich uses all of her magic stones and Vyk and Vincent both used 8 arrows.

Once the north shore is clear the group follow Jeffrey to the remains. While there isn't much left a bright and shiny mithril longsword remains completely untarnished. Further inspection of the remains reveals that the bits of armor seem to match what the local guards wear.

"I really need some ranged spells," Vyk mutters as he stares at his bow distastefully.

When the remains are revealed to belong to one of the local guards, Vyk shakes his head. "Go to Carrion Hill. Talk to the locals. Secure some Middenstone. It should be a breeze. Pfft! Now here we are neck deep in demons and killer fungus. This entire country blows."

I think we're done with the church. Exit and head off to the next nightmare fuel zone?

He sighs with Vyk, "I suppose the silver lining is that if we survive we'll definitely have impressed the locals. This Middenstone better be important."

I agree on moving on, since I think we're done here.

Vincent takes a moment before realizing the sword itself is unique enough to probably identify the deceased Crow. With nothing else to explore beneath the church the Pathfinders head back up. As they gather back on the main floor a familiar face steps through one of the doors. Keeper Crove's dower face somehow manages to sour even more as he sees the Pathfinders. "Guess you lot got here before me. Don't suppose you left my friend Hyve alive?"
