With the threads of ley in her hands, Hinagiku's reflex at seeing the dim flames rush toward her is to put her arms forward, palms facing outward, pierce through the magic, and part the fire as she brings her arms apart.

"Mr. Xanderghul, I am here." she simply says at the reckless wizard.

One of the demons in the other room jumps up onto a small table and thrusts his spear at Hinagiku, but the kitsune reads the attack in its beady little eyes and easily deflects the blow with a lightning fast strike to its haft.

"Golden" Harold then trudges into the center of the room and raises his scythe aloft, channeling Deskari's power into his own body. Waves of greenish energy radiate out from his scythe and across the room, hitting both the babaus and the heroes in his recklessness. Disoriented, the babaus confuse Harold for their foes and start to encircle him.

One babau leaps onto the cot and swings at him. Its offspeed maneuever flits past his guard and hits. Harold growls, "Ibhurzashdam doshi! I thramp lurz al thrishum shagum dom gu bi Ashum ink i nu pik krúk bok ak ham pim..." then twists sideways to avoid another spear.

Hinagiku’s brow forrows as the wave of negative energy hits her, but she knows that with Isilme’s spell this will only hasten the demise of their enemy. Isilme shakes off the worst of the energy channel without much effort and readies herself to fight.

"He seems less silver-tongued and more leaden-tongued from where I stand," Isilme quips, mocking the dwarf. "But given the standards cultists have, being able to speak in complete sentences likely places him among the most charismatic of his cohorts."

Turning towards the demon that had teleported in behind them, she begins to seek an opening in the demon's defenses. She channels energy into her blade as she swings, limning the ebon starknife in a silvery glow and slashing across the beast's chest after batting its spear to the side.

After the first swing she gracefully twists out of the way of its next thrust, moving around to the side, working on placing it between herself and Valaria. Seeing another opening, Isilme slashes a second time, this time at the creature's shoulder.

Deskari must be looking after the babau as Isilme's strike hits but lands a few inches short of slitting its foul neck. Further away, Hinagiku topples another babau and overwhelms with a series of brutal strikes. Meanwhile, with a precise twist, a third babau propels it's spear's tip into Harold, who screams out in anger and frustration. All around them, the fire rapidly spreads, quickly enveloping most of the second floor. The fires lick around all the heroes and spread even into the stairwell. Thick smoke starts to fill the building, threatening to suffocate them all, as does intense, sweltering heat. The demons, and their fiendish leader, however, don't seem to even notice the flames licking all around them, their very being suffused with the Abyss as it were. Valaria, likewise born with Abyssal taint, doesn't even break a sweat.

Ehren takes 4 damage, Xanderghul takes 8 damage, Ary takes 11 damage, and Isilme takes 1 damage from heat and smoke effects. Babau #6 begins to suffocate. Hinagiku takes 2 damage from heat.

Everyone except Hinagiku must make a DC 10 fort check or begin to suffocate due to the smoke. A character may fail this save a number of times equal to her Constitution modifier. After failing to save for the last time, the character falls unconscious and is subject to suffocation.

Ehren, Hinagiku, Xanderghul, Valaria and Ary must make a DC 15 reflex save or catch on fire.

Focusing on the battle, Isilme inhales sharply as she dances around the Babau and finds herself catching a lungful of smoke. She begins coughing heavily and gasping almost immediately as she tries to expel the hot smoke and replace it with fresh air.

I already deducted the negative energy damage from Ehren's hit points, so he should be up 8. I'll try to make note of those changes in the future. :O

Ehren grimaces as the flames inevitably sweep across the room. While such destructive spells worked fine outdoors or in stone corridors, a wooden building full of kindling obviously would not hold up nearly as well. Of course, while a stone corridor would not catch fire, the druid's stone wild shape does not hold up under similar scrutiny; half his body manages to catch fire, a fact that would bewilder him if they did not have bigger problems to worry about.

"Hold on," Ehren says when Valaria suggests leaving, which under most circumstances, would be the sane thing to do. They could escape from the building easily enough, but Harold and his friends were likely to follow them, especially since they were not in any real danger. Instead of dealing with those complications, the druid decides to eliminate them entirely.

Tapping into his reserves of mythic power, Ehren casts a spell that would hopefully put the fire out before it could cause any more damage to the building - or to them.

Ehren spends 2 MP to cast quench with place magic. I have not marked it on the map, but with LoS to almost the entire fire and 11 20-ft. cubes to work with, I should be able to cover all of it.

"I should know better than to underestimate you by now." She shifts her position again and hurls her knife at the dwarf twice, trying to snipe him out before he can do too much damage.

Xanderghul feels a momentary flash of guilt as the fire spreads through the wooden building. It was true - he had seen the congregation of enemies and he had leapt to trying to magically bomb them without truly thinking of the consequences, and now he was among those coughing up the consequences. Grateful that Ehren has the power to extinguish the flames, Xanderghul draws the wand of blindness from his pack once again. He points at one of the non-confused babau and focuses, attempting to destroy the demon's vision, but the weak magic of the tool is unable to penetrate the demon's natural resistances.

Ehren closes his eyes and calls upon ancient druidic magics that were originally developed to stop blazing forest fires. Seeing an opportunity, the babau on the ground lunges at Ehren suddenly, his teeth clamping around Ehren's stony leg. Several of its teeth break against the hard rock of Ehren's form, and while it succeeds on tearing off a small chunk of the druid's limb off him, it falls to the ground flailing about in agony. Unhindered by the demon's antics, Ehren simply waves his hand and the flames extinguish in an instant, leaving only blackened and charred furniture and walls.

The fire and smoke now clear, Valaria's missile bores into her target with an audible grating sound, then vanishes from the dwarf's side and back into her hand. Opposite from her, Isilme's foe leaps back on the cot in the room. Springing off of the mattress, the babau steps with Isilme's reach at precisely the right moment. She grasps its spear in a spinning throw and slings the demon over her hip. The demon collides with the far wall, knocking over a shelf laden with ceramic poultices and scrambles back to its feet.

Ary is in the midst of being ready to stand her ground against the babau to buy her friends time to exit when all of the flames just seem to... dissipate. She sputters out what would be a sigh of relief if not for the smoke still clinging to her lungs, before spinning rapidly to deliver a series of blows, as best she can, to the babau around the corner. Confused, though he may be, he was still within reach. The moment Radiance bites into his flesh, the golden motes return once more flowing into her... she coughs one more time, before her chest clears, and some of the burns fade, even as she drives the foe back into its ally's midsts.

With deft skill Ary appears beside of the babau and snakes her blade into the demon's stomach, drawing a steady stream of ichor that spills out onto the floor. The demon dissolves into nothing shortly afterwards. In the other room, Isilme's conclusive attack rips gruesome, ragged chunks from the demon's chest and throat.

Hinagiku:

As you come into contact with the towering dwarf, you get a flight of insight into his twisted mind. Harold never knew love, as his family abandoned him as an infant due to his horrific appearance and visible Abyssal taint. Adopted into the cult of Deskari, Harold believes that it is his sacred duty to bring about the end of the world as fast as possible, as oblivion is the only way mortals can truly be at peace. Once the material plane has been destroyed, all souls can finally convert to their true forms after facing the judgment of the gods. He is close to insane due to the intense fervor he has for his mad beliefs.

Meanwhile, with a surge of vigor Hinagiku overwhelms her opponent, striking blow after blow until there is no need to strike again. Harold falls to the ground with a monumental thud, unconscious from his many wounds.

Book keeping: Ary crits Babau #3 for 29 damage (crit confirms, didn't bother rolling) and kills it. Isilme crits Babau #2 for 26 damage and kills it. Hinagiku deals 55 damage to Golden Harold, wounding him and KOing him.

As the Harold topples to the ground with a resounding thud, Val smirks with a hint of triumph. "One big one down, a lot of little ones left to clean up." She adjusts her aim and send her dagger hurtling toward the remaining babaus to finish them off before they can escape.

"...quickly," Ehren finishes, as Hinagiku lays low the giant dwarf before he even has a chance to use his unholy strength. Without missing a beat, he simply resumes stomping on the floored babau, intent on doing so until it ceases to be.


WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: Inspire Courage

Ehren's accurate strike leaves the fallen babau with a throbbing contusion... with a quick yelp of pain, the demon presses its arms underneath of it and tries to force itself up and off the ground...

Meanwhile, with a mighty exhale of breath, as if the heave would force more power behind her shot, Valaria flings her starknife clear across the room at the furthest babau, leaving a grazing wound. As her starknife vanishes into her hand, the demon becomes enveloped in shadow, hindering its ability to move.

Book keeping: Ehren deals 10 damage to Babau #5 after DR, staggering it. Valaria deals 19 damage to Babau #6, grazing it. Xanderghul entangles babau #6 but also grants it concealment (unless darkvision)

Ehren and Hinagiku are entitled to an AoO vs Babau #5 as it stands up.

I'm gonna rule that Golden Harold's giant fallen body counts as difficult terrain.

5 foot step, full round action to recover my maneuvers. Ary will use her defensive focus to move on top of babau 5 in the event Ehren or Daisy get attacked (and will otherwise move to intervene, up to 40 feet before her next round).

Ary shifts from the room with the fallen Babau, back into the room filled with a heap of dwarf. Ary looks confusedly to her allies, not knowing how the man had fallen so quickly (nor how he had grown so large). She manages to simply shrug, before focusing her attentions more inward for a moment, before expanding them outwards once more.

As she watches the battle around her unfold, ready to step in at a moment's notice, she calls out, "My name is Ary Bishop. We're with the Crusades. If there are any survivors, we're in the middle of killing the Babaus and the dwarf. Don't come out until we call for you!"

Realizing what the babau is trying to do, Ehren slams his fist into it in attempt to interrupt its attack. Though the punch connects, it is not enough to deter the demon from murdering Harold. Ehren grimaces as the giant dwarf drowns in his own blood. While he did not believe the cultist was deserving of mercy, he had not intended to summarily execute him. Not like the last time.

Pulling his opposite arm back, Ehren follows up his attack with an even more forceful punch, penetrating the demon's defenses with sheer force.

Hinagiku sighs, she had hoped that Ehren would leave the babau alone, and then they might have been able to simply retreat and leave the confused onis behind them. Yet, it was nice to see that he was willing to put his life on the line to protect the cleric... just like so many cultist he had been the victim of circumstances... one more reason for her to push forward and deny the onis another victory.

Still, now she knew that her friend was going to be its next target. Climbing atop the body of Golden Harold, the monk makes her way around the babau. Doing so, she casually grab its hand, glad to be protected by Ary's spell, and begins to twist it as she finishes circling around the oni who she then forces to the ground.

Ehren's fist stops dead as all force is transferred into the babau, driving them a step backwards, though the demon's spear is already deep into the dwarf's neck at this point. It pulls back from Harold and turns towards the archdruid, but Hinagiku is already on it before it can counterattack, knocking it down onto the ground. Meanwhile, across the hall and in the other room, Isilme faces off with another babau. With an audible clash, she deflects the demon's incoming spear and creates an opening for her own.

Book keeping: Ehren AoOs Babau #1 for 10 damage, grazing it. Isilme deals 27 damage to Babau #6, wounding it. Hinagiku trips babau #1
