Ok, you haul your loot back to the boat. Bloodtusk notices that Ingrahilde has joined you, but says little bout it. "Welcome aboard, ma'am."

As predicted, the next 5 days are quiet as you make your way further up river. Finally, you get to the location where you are to disembark. Bloodtusk pulls up on the southern bank of the river. Redlake Fort lies about 10 miles to the west, along a small tributary that feeds into the Esk.

He gazes ahead down the small stream guiding them towards the fort. May be best to track off the trail a bit. See how the orcs are moving. Too much to hope the giants and their toothers are too lazy to patrol.

Once his companions have had an opportunity to say their piece, the Dwarf leaps up into the air as high as he can, his body quickly forming into that of a hawk.

Oh, you know that super important place *face palm* Thanks GM! Are we on a time crunch? If not, I could take a whole 6 hours of wildshape to track movement patterns, scout the whole fort, etc. so we know exactly what we are getting ourselves into and how to prepare for it. GM, let me know what skill checks you want. If I do have a full 6 hours to do this, I'd be taking ten as often as possible. Perception would be 28, Survival would be 23 (25 vs Giants).

Patrol paths. Ulark says brusquely. If they're in a slagging fort, good to know how well the toothers are circling it and keeping an eye out. Any way in that's not the main gate, that's an in.

Given your options, it is pretty easy to scout out the area. I posted up a map of the fort.

There is a patrol of 4 orcs and a hill giant that wanders near by, but you have plenty of forewarning to get hidden. If you want to ambush them, let me know your plan (you can designate some terrain, etc).

Or if you just want to avoid and approach the fort, that is ok too.

Belir isn't much for scouting so he squats down for a quick rest and a short nap on dry, stable ground. "Aye, let's ambush a few patrols. We can hit one and when it doesn't return they should send out some more to see what happened." He waits for Ingrahild to find a suitable location.

You are able to setup a decent ambush spot well away from the fort.

Go ahead and place yourselves on the map where you like, no closer than 60 feet unless you want to make a couple of stealth checks to be closer.

Assuming no one fails a stealth check for trying to get closer, you can start with a surprise round. There are a hill giant and 4 large orcs making up the patrol.

Eavesdropping? Speak orc? Make a stealth DC 15 (or other way to listen unknown) to overhear some information.:

The hill giant's name is Jort, and he is a Heart Eater, while the orcs are part of the Twisted Nail tribe. The orcs sometimes grumble about the giant when he cannot hear. One of the ocrs bends down and picks up a dagger. Then he chuckles and says, "Hey, Grunk! Here's yer blade what you dropped when wrestlin that crazy dwarf!"

Gundar was an old hand at ambushing orcs, and nearly always began the same way. Once his bolt had left the bow, he was up and running.

New weapon and trusty old shield in hand, Gundar barrels at the orc that had recently sprouted a crossbow bolt. It was good to be back to the basics.

Thozar and Gundar sink their missiles into the side of the green orc which grunts in pain. And the giant, hit in the back with a glob of acid, howls and looks for the attackers. Seeing them behind, he tries to turn, stymied by the folliage that holds him.

Gunder smacks the green orc twice, doing some fairly significant damage. It is bleeding profusely, and definitely has fatal wounds, but refuses to fall down. He is staggered, however.

Ulark manages to lodge one arrow into the giant, but the second fails to penetrate his tough hide. Thozar manages to barely hit the giant with a blob of acid. Thozar - You actually don't have the -4 penalty here because even though the giant is engaged in melee, it is 10' from the closest ally.

Am I doing any damage to the giant? It says 18 wounds but that is after I critted for 44 damage and after full round shooting it with several other arrows

I think the damage on the giant was a typo.

Ingrahilde puts arrow after arrow into the hill giant, finally bringing it down. Gundar destroys what is left of the green orc, so Ulark redirects his arrows to purple.

Thozar spews another glob of acid, but doesn't come close to hitting anything.

With the giant dead, Belir is up!
