Aloysia Sett |
Aloysia pops back into vision, gleeful expression until she looks down at herself. "That was quite the rush, I love you Nicolai! I don't suppose you happen to be able to prestidigitate me too," indicating the solid red color to her whole front.
Gamon Neles |
Gamon's jittery movements slow back to a reasonable speed as he wipes off his axe on the coat of a nearby corpse. That was well done. If we can prepare for fights like that more often, our lives would be much easier.
Jolon Vulture-Heart |
Jolon sighs as the spell wears off.
"Victory at last."
He begins saying prayers over each dead body, even Rolth's, with the ancestors whispering their approval.
"Good work, Aloysia. You took that scum down like the hand of Pharasma herself."
GM Fez |
Physicians are all plaguebringer's masks.
The cultists are each carrying four potions and have magical breastplate.
Nicolai's arcane eye sees eight more cultists surrounding four large glass tubes. One of the tubes holds a horse skulled humanoid monster.
Nicolai Fortescu |
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
"There are eight more cultists in the next room and they seem to have a Leukodaemon trapped in some sort of glass tube"
Nicolai will then explain what he knows about the creature to the rest of the party.
(What exactly does he recall with his roll? strengths, weaknesses, etc....)
Jolon Vulture-Heart |
"Such creatures are all too often in cahoots with the Pallid Princess. It does not surprise me that blood veil could have been distilled from their foulness!"
Jolon raises his sword.
"How do we kill it, Nicolai? It should be slain immediately!"
Gamon Neles |
Gamon waits patiently for more information from Nicolai, but shrugs at the mention of a demon waiting for them. At least this time we know what to expect, that's more than I can usually ask for.
GM Fez |
Nicolai explains some of the typical weaknesses and resistances of daemons, that they are immune to acid, disease, poison, and spells that kill death effects. They are resistant to cold, electricity, and fire, can summon others of their kind, typically another of their type or a small number of less powerful daemons, are telepathic, and the stronger ones are resistant to weapons that are not silver or holy, as well as most spells.
He recalls that the specific abilities of leukodaemons is their fly filled breath. They can fire off a stream of flies like dragons fire off elemental energy, large bloated, disease-ridden flies that sting and bite. Fortunately this ability seems to require some time to recharge and can't be done too often.
Map has been updated with positions. The cultists know you're there and look ready to fight.
Aloysia Sett |
Aloysia puts her mithril dagger in her main hand at Nicolai's information, her facial expression changing from delight to concern. She steps up to the other door, and begins her usual search process...
Perception for traps/locks: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
And if necessary...
Disable Device: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
Gamon Neles |
Gamon's face doesn't change as Nicolai spends nearly a minute listing off the demon's abilities, but once he's done there is a slight pause. Well then. If you have any more enhancing spells like we just used, seems like now would be the time.
Very good to know that silver will bypass resistance, since he does still have a silver greataxe in addition to his normal one.
Nicolai Fortescu |
Nicolai will cast Prestidigitation on Aloysia and will watch as the blood sloughs off her armor and her clothes "I don't know why. You'll just get dirty again."
Nicolai will then pull out his wand and cast Enlarge Person on both Jolon and Gamon. "I've got spells left, but I'd like to keep them in reserve, just in case. We don't know how deep the rat's nest goes."
Spells rounds remaining:
Enlarge person (Jolon) 9/10
Enlarge person (Gamon) 10/10
GM Fez |
Aloysia doesn't see any traps on the doors, and both are unlocked.
Nicolai: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Gamon: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Aloysia: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Cultists: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Leukodaemon: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Combat will start as soon as the door is smashed in. The leukodaemon can't do anything while it is in its tube.

Aloysia Sett |
My plan was to try to kill anyone who tried to open the tube so we don't have to fight it at the same time as the cultists
Nicolai Fortescu |
The only saving grace is that the daemon is just as likely to attack the cultists as anyone else, so that they may not want to release it themselves as well.
Gamon Neles |
Gamon shoves the door open with a crash, his hulking form becoming visible only as his axe is halfway through the first of two lethal blows aimed at the first cultist within reach.
Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20
Damage: 3d6 + 15 ⇒ (6, 3, 3) + 15 = 27
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage: 3d6 + 15 ⇒ (4, 2, 3) + 15 = 24
GM Fez |
Gamon, your first attack killed the cultist, so you still have a move action if you want to get in there. Remember you'll have to squeeze through the door.
Gamon's axe reaches around, crushing one of the cultists waiting behind the door. Jolon's sword can't quite get the reach it needs, the softer metal of silver failing to penetrate the cultist's breastplate. If the sword weren't silver you'd have hit.

"Get them! Stop them in the name of Lady Andaisan! Make more subjects of the Pallid Princess!" The cultists shout all number of things, each of them fired up and ready to fight for their lady and the evil goddess they worship. They pray for protection and fortune against you, chanting in a foul tongue, all but the one by the glass tube, and the one attacked by Jolon. They one cast forth a spiritual scythe to attack Gamon and step around to attack Jolon respectively.
Spiritual scythe!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 I think this hits Gamon only because he's large now...

It depends on if the scythe counts as evil, since Gamon should still be under the effects of Protection from Evil, which would bring his AC back above 18.
Aloysia Sett |
Aloysia downs the potion of invisibility and darts towards the cultist she thinks might be trying to break out the Luekodaemon.
Gamon Neles |
As the first cultist drops before him, Gamon moves further into the room, focusing on his next target as he keeps his eyes on the demon still locked safely away in its tube.

Aight.

Aloysia bursts out of invisibility, but her blade is stopped by some force surrounding the cultist. Of her continued attacks only one gets through, but it scores a deep slice on the cultist's arm.

The subject becomes paralyzed and freezes in place. It is aware and breathes normally but cannot take any actions, even speech. Each round on its turn, the subject may attempt a new saving throw to end the effect. This is a full-round action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. A winged creature who is paralyzed cannot flap its wings and falls. A swimmer can’t swim and may drown.
I'd say you get another saving throw to end one of the spells holding you this round. I'd think it would take two successful saves to end both spells.
Gamon Neles |
I just wanted to check if they were both hold person, but it's probably a safe assumption. If so, my roll for this round is below.
Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
GM Fez |
Jolon's sword runs through the cultist allowing the big man to squeeze through the door and help Gamon before the cultist's try to kill him. I moved you into the room.
The cultists, having lost half of their number begin to grow desperate. The one to the south moves forward and prepares their scythe to bring Gamon down permanently Move: 10 ft move, Standard: start full round coup-de-grace. The one Aloysia tried to stab before now swings at her, while the other who attacked Gamon moves to fight Jolon now that he's in the room. The last, a look of glee on her face, raises her scythe to smash the tube around the Leukodaemon.
