Gamon Neles |
Calm, collected, and in a surprisingly good mood all things considered, Gamon smiles as well as he sizes up the remaining physician and lashes out with his oversized axe.
Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Damage: 3d6 + 15 ⇒ (3, 2, 4) + 15 = 24
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage: 3d6 + 15 ⇒ (3, 4, 3) + 15 = 25
Intimidate if they survive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
GM Fez |
The enormous axe descends and the life of another plague bringer has been ended. All that remains is the lone Gray Maiden, standing before the door to prevent your access.
She takes up her sword and swings at Jolon, trying to take out one enemy at a time.
Thrust!: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Despite her composure Jolon is still just able to avoid the blow with a quick deflection using his sword.
Order 2nd/3rd Round

Jolon
Jolon Vulture-Heart |
Jolon retaliates with a swing of his own sword!
Masterwork Sunsilver Bastard Sword: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 292d8 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (2, 2) + 3 - 1 = 6
EDIT: Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Gamon Neles |
Gamon moves past the oversized Jolon to cut off the Gray Maiden's last remaining route of escape, but is too over-zealous with his attack and only leaves sparks skittering across the stone floor as his axe goes wide.
Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
Damage: 3d6 + 15 ⇒ (4, 4, 3) + 15 = 26
GM Fez |
The Gray Maiden continues her assault on Jolon, refusing to move from the front of the doors.
Slash!: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Because of his larger size Jolon isn't able to move out of the way in time and takes a slash down his arm.

Aloysia Sett |
Aloysia tries to find fleshy openings in her armor and stabs

Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 4d8 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (8, 1, 5, 2) = 19
Gamon Neles |
Gamon swings out twice more at the Gray Maiden, but she proves more agile than the physicians he had been fighting before, and easily dodges both blows.
Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
Damage: 3d6 + 15 ⇒ (3, 6, 6) + 15 = 30
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Jolon Vulture-Heart |
Jolon grunts in pain at the wound, but stands firm, raising his klar and touching his arm.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Cold, holy light flows over it like water, sealing it as if it wasn't there.
"There is no wound you can give me that my goddess and my ancestors cannot give back," he says sternly.
Gamon Neles |
After swinging and missing widely yet again, Gamon takes a second to find his bearing, before bringing down his axe with a better-aimed strike.
Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
Damage: 3d6 + 15 ⇒ (1, 5, 6) + 15 = 27

She screams at the first shot not connecting
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 2 = 29
Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 4d8 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (8, 8, 4, 7) = 31
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
And in her blind fury she scores a lucky hit
[ooc]4 Bleed on the Maiden now too[/dice]
GM Fez |
Aloysia's dagger finds the opening in the Maiden's armor, the lack of gorget protecting the throat. The spray covers the door guarded by the Maiden, and after the infernal clanging of the armored body hitting the floor the only sounds are the coughing and wheezing of the blood veil victims around you. Combat over!
Behind the door is an elevator with access going up and down.
Gamon Neles |
Gamon thinks for a second, Let's try up. I'd rather make sure we haven't missed anything above first, before we venture into what might be a heavily guarded hideout beneath us.
Nicolai Fortescu |
With combat over Nicolai will peer out the door and survey the scene. Being ever practical he will bend over the bodies and first scan them for magic and then rifle through their pockets for loose change. "I'm with Gamon. I'd hate to leave something between us and the exit should we need to beat a hasty retreat."
Did we ever check the bodies upstairs for anything other than magic?
Jolon Vulture-Heart |
"Well, that was fun! Sorry you got beat up, Jolon. Shall we head down or double check up?"
"Heh, I'd rather I be the one getting beat up than the rest of you. I can take the hits."
He nods at the others' assessment.
"Up first, then the basement."
GM Fez |
The Gray Maiden doesn't have anything more than her weapons and armor on her, and the doctor's all have those plague masks, healing kits and arms, but it is the angry 'nurse' who has objects of interest on her person. She has a potion, 4 scrolls, 2 vials of alchemist’s fire, holy water, a thunderstone, magic studded leather, a light crossbow with 10 bolts, her masterwork rapier, a disguise kit, an everburning torch, a healer’s kit, thieves’ tools, a wizard’s spellbook, a wooden holy symbol, and 129 gp. You did not, but the physicians all have standard kit and all Davaulus had on him other than magic and gold were 3 keys, including one disguised as a button for the elevator...
The elevator just lets out at the top of the warehouse, ignoring the gantry hanging over the main floor entirely. Using the button found on Davaulus you make the lift head down, past the main floor, into the lightless depths. The air grows cooler as it caresses your skin, leaving trails of goosebumps and introducing something foul to your noses. A particular stench that speaks of disease and undeath, much worse here than up above. The elevator is 10x10, do you wait for the enlarge spells to end or dispel them to all fit?
Gamon Neles |
Gamon shrugs. More likely they took it from a worshipper they killed, or keep it to deceive themselves that they still follow Sarenrae's light. No one could see what has happened here and believe themselves to be doing good.
GM Fez |
In addition to the elevator's size you guys also have a load of stuff that you haven't yet identified because you were interrupted upstairs.
Davaulus' chain shirt, potion, and flask labelled Elixer of Life. You also have another potion from the 'Sarenite' and her armor to identify. You guys can spend 10 minutes per item while you're up here identifying the items.
Jolon Vulture-Heart |
"I hope you're right, Gamon. People in desperate times can believe a little evil can achieve a greater good, but Pharasma's judgment does not treat actions as a tally that can be balanced to avoid punishment for your choices and your actions..."
Nicolai Fortescu |
While his friends rest and heal their wounds Nicolai will examine the magic items they have found.
Nicolai has already identified the Rapier as a +1 Human-Bane rapier and the Amulet as a +1 Amulet of Natural Armor. He tried, and failed, on the chain shirt, unless you want to say that (if I use the Harrow deck's Identify) I can try again today.
"Doctor" Davalaus:
Spellcraft (Elixir of Life): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32
Spellcraft (potion): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
Nurse "Ratched"
Spellcraft (studded leather): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
Spellcraft (potion): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
With the items done Nicolai ceases to concentrate on his detect magic spell and casts a read magic in it's place and then begins to peruse the scrolls and spellbook.
GM Fez |
I honestly forgot there was a 1/day limit to checking the abilities of magic items...
What at first appears to be an eversmoking bottle reveals itself to actually be a flask of curses. It seems Davaulus had one last trick after death if his items were stolen. The potion on the other hand seems to be insurance as it is a potion of remove disease. The nurse's potion was a cure moderate wounds healing potion, and she was wearing protective enchanted +1 studded leather. Her scrolls are an interesting hodge-podge of spells: bless, burning hands, cure light wounds, and magic missile.
Nicolai Fortescu |
Oops, sorry about that
With a wave of his hand Nicolai dismisses the spells on Gamon and Jolon, causing them to revert back to their normal size.
GM Fez |
I forgot to put the enemies in the new map...New Map is up by the way.
You make your way onto the elevator and drop below the ground, ready to face whatever comes your way. The doors open revealing scuffed stone walls of this chamber which have been plastered over and then decorated with lurid murals of skeletons cavorting among the dead of a Korvosa that has completely succumbed to blood veil. Simple wooden doors lead to the north, south, and west, each bearing a painting of a scythe-wielding skeleton. A sizable double door stands on the east wall, appearing in the mural as a massive set of double doors opening into the pyramid foundation of Castle Korvosa. Two more scythe-wielding skeletons decorate these large doors. And in front of these are four gray maidens, firing at you as the doors fully open! One shot for each person
Thrum (Jolon)!: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 1 = 25
Thrum (Nicolai)!: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6
Thrum (Gamon)!: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
Thrum (Aloysia)!: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 = 9
Confirm (Jolon): 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
Damage (Jolon): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Only one arrow makes it into the elevator, but it nearly takes out Jolon hitting perilously close to his heart.
Nicolai: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Gamon: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Aloysia: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Gray Maidens: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
The gray maidens are in a line across the front of the double doors to the east.

Aloysia Sett |
Sorry for the delay in posting, Paizo wouldn't let me in for a couple of days for some reason.
Aloysia immediately dashes out the door and heads to flank a Maiden.
Double move to avoid AoO.
Nicolai Fortescu |
GM Fez, I went ahead and set up the map. I hope that's okay.
Nicolai flinches as the arrow whizzes past his head. Looking out of the elevator he sees the maidens lined up against the wall in front of the doors "It's obvious that they don't want us to go that way, so I say that's the way to go." Gesticulating wildly Nicolai casts a spell "Fulgor" he shouts as little motes of glitter appear in the air around the Maidens "They can't hit what they can't see".
Nicolai casts Glitterdust DC:16 Will save, centering it directly in front of, and between, the two maidens in front of the doors.
Gamon Neles |
Gamon steps up to the nearest Gray Maiden, sizing her up quickly and chopping down with an overhead strike. I don't think this position qualifies as flanking, but let me know if I'm wrong and I'll update my numbers.
Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
Damage: 1d12 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Intimidate if hit: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Nicolai Fortescu |
If she fails her saving throw and is blinded you can add your sneak attack damage as well.
GM Fez |
I very much appreciate the assistance Nicolai.
Will (R)!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Will (B)!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Will (G)!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Will (Y)!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Nicolai's spell goes off, drawing pained cries from two of the now sparkly maidens, while the others ignore the dust. Gamon, you get your sneak attack cause the maiden is blinded.
The maiden refuses to be shaken even after Gamon's devastating hit. If your sneak attack does 5 or more damage she dies, so I'm going to refrain from taking her actions right now.
The maidens drop their bows and switch to the swords and shields as they move into new positions. Move action ready shield, move action move or move and ready sword depending on if they moved or not.

I'll attack Red just in case Gamon's extra damage doesn't kill her, if it does then you can apply my same attack to yellow one that would come after me moving to the catercorner spot that would flank with Gamon and wouldn't provoke.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 2 = 13
Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 4d8 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (1, 4, 6, 5) = 18
If that even hits...
GM Fez |
Gamon continues swinging, moving forward and crushing the gray maiden's defenses, cutting her down easily.
Aloysia moves into position, swinging her dagger at the maiden, but is unable to get through the thick plate armor. Moved your attack to green
