Syllyn yells "I THINK THEY ARE ILLUSIONS"
Concerned, Igor looks around "Illuth- Illuth- Mirageth!? Where?"
At last, screwing up his nerve he has Scraps open the door. "Ha! Didn't I thay? Didn't I thay? No kitchen. I'll bet thith plathe doethn't even have a water clothet."

Sune practices her speed-reading on the note Igor finds.
"It says right here it's an illusion, though an exceedingly clever one, I'll give him that. But he says here we should investigate the Wall of Names. Why don't we check that out? The gnome isn't here. Maybe this hasn't been a complete waste of time, though...we did find this note with a lead."
Syllyn
|
"This guy Finny sure likes to play games. I wonder if this is all some sort of elaborate test set up by Drandle? I guess our next stop is the wall of names?"
| GM Faelyn |
Well done! To the Wall of Names, then?
Igor of Caliphas

"Burial thiteth." Igor says with obvious distaste. "They're thuch a wathte." He looks about remorsefully.

Yes, to the wall we go.
Sune Wanderlust

"We need to get to this wall, preferably in the next two minutes!" Sune says, and the group knows that is about the extent of her attention span.
"To the Wall of Names!" she yells over her shoulder, though she is practically running toward it already.

"'Abby Normal'? Hm. I did not even know thee wath thick."
| GM Faelyn |
Created in 4330 AR, the Wall of Names resides on the grounds of the Grand Lodge in Absalom. The monument is a curving wall of black glass that stands atop a small hill at the western edge of the lodge’s grounds. Trees surround the hill, providing ample shade and privacy for those visiting the wall to remember fallen comrades. Carved into the wall are the name and date of death of every Pathfinder killed in the course of duty since the wall’s construction, and most entries also include a sentence or two summarizing either the agent’s greatest accomplishments or how she died.
Utilizing the names in the notes left behind in the hidden room of the Wounded Wisp and the name listed in Fimbrik's notes you are easily able to locate the three name upon the wall (See updated Handouts!) and their strange epitaphs...

"Well, then. All three of these folks have portions underlined. And they seem to jog a memory. Something about the Starstone test? Yes, I know I've seen these phrases at the Shrine of the Failed. That must be our next stop on this treasure hunt."
Sune Wanderlust
|
Sune frowns at the underlines portions and Syllyn's explanation.
"I have no time for riddles! What is this supposed to mean?!" she wonders.
"Well, if we must go to the Shrine of the Failed, by all means, let's go!"

"What about, 'Eylythia'th contact with a well-known thtonemathon by the name of Arkath.'" Igor says reading the note by Selmius Foster. "Themiuth goeth on to thay that he 'had the dithpleathure of meeting thith fellow in hith dying dayth, when he promithed to take any thecretth he held to hith grave. He was interred in a mautholeum in the Ivy Dithtrict weekth after our encounter, though I thtill believe there ith more to hith connection with Eylythia.'" Pausing for effect, and to dab at his companions with a towel, he adds, "What if thith thour, and thuthpithiouth-theeming thtonemathon literally took the thecret to hith grave. He wrings out the towel and begins dabbing again.
| GM Faelyn |
So what's the plan? To the Shrine? Or follow up with Igor's suggestion?
Syllyn

I'm afraid Syllyn could not make heads or tails of Igor's suggestion. He was too busy dodging the spittle. To the shrine!

"Oh, look. There's a merchant. Perhaps we could each buy an umbrella?" :)
| GM Faelyn |
The group easily locates the Shrine of the Failed and find the place strangely empty. Erected centuries ago by an unknown organization, the Shrine of the Failed is a dour complex that pays homage to those who failed in their attempts to overcome the Test of the Starstone. The building houses numerous altars, each dedicated to a specific failed aspirant. Black-robed acolytes protect, clean, and maintain the halls as well as the few trinkets left behind by the aspirants. The shrine is a stone edifice with several levels that contain altars to the failed aspirants. This monumental chamber stretches eighty feet from end to end, with a ceiling suspended thirty feet from the floor by great pillars. Seven arched passages lead to humble rooms, each of which contains a polished stone altar dedicated to one of the failed aspirants who attempted the Test of the Starstone.

Once there, she looks at everything, looking for the names they had seen at the Wall of Names, or any other clues.

You all begin to move through the shrines one at a time, moving in a clockwise direction... Each of these chambers contains a small stone altar to one of the failed aspirants. Each altar stands upon a raised dais and bears a small brass nameplate identifying the aspirant and the would-be-god’s areas of interest. The only that seems to stand out is the shrine dedicated to Karina Clamp, but your cursory examination does not reveal anything different than the others...

How specifically does it stand out to us compared to the others?
"It thayth here in the guidebook that her interethtth include: 'muthic, the beach, Kelithh cuithine, and men who are not afraid to cry.' There are thome numberth here too, I think they are architectural, but they theem rather unthound. I mean motht timeth you want a wide, thtable bathe, and a thmaller top."
| GM Faelyn |
The only thing you notice right now that stands out is the name, the same one you located at the Wall of Names that directed you here.
Sune Wanderlust

Sune looks at the shrine impatiently.
"What is it with all the riddles? This certainly slows us down, but we'll have to put some brainpower into this. This was one of the names at the Wall of Names. Is this shrine even real? I think the gnome suggested something was wrong..."
Sune looks at the shrine with surprising patience (for her, anyway), looking for anything that might be movable or amiss.

Going to just assume you all Take 20.
The group spends sometime thoroughly examining the shrine and the area around it, Syllyn is the only one to spot the hidden door on the west wall. Together you all notice that the altar' nameplate slides to one side to reveal a miniature chalkboard and a thin piece of chalk.
Igor of Caliphas
|
Igor takes a taste. *CRUNCH* *chew, chew, chew* "Yep. It'th chalk."
He uses it to write the word 'wiffle' on the chalkboard. However he seems unaware of the terrible noise he makes while doing so.
| GM Faelyn |
This dispels the illusion concealing the door and causes the stone portal to open. Dry, stale air blasts through the cracks as the door begins to open, clearly this door has not been opened in centuries... The cavern beyond the secret door is made of stone.
This cavern is dark but the intrepid Pathfinders venture forward cautiously into the cavern until it opens up into a more open space with two massive uncut pillars of stone. Just ahead you all notice a dim illumination that opens into a lit alcove. Several desks are arranged along the northern and eastern edges of this small stone alcove. Whereas the stonework leading to this chamber is rough, the walls in the alcove are polished. A single gem rests among the neatly filed papers on the desk, emitting a soft luminescence that brightens the small room. Despite the enclosed nature of the study, it feels comfortable and perhaps even a little homey.

"This is what we have been looking for! Finally! We should notify the society about this quickly...this might prove very useful!"
| GM Faelyn |
Syllyn is not quite able to identify the strangely glowing gem; however, the group is able to identify the stack of papers as an extremely important find! They appear to be written in Azlanti (although anyone that speaks the language realizes they have been encrypted as well)! What do you wish to do now?

Is the map up to date? I see some unremoved spoilers and I'm not sure from the description but it seems like you are describing a different room than the one disclosed.

Syllyn

"Or we could just use a scroll of comprehend languages," he states as he flourishes said scroll.
Syllyn casts the spell on himself and does his best to decipher the text.
Igor of Caliphas

"But thith ith a thypher. Thure you might make out the wordth, but their true meaning might be hidden in another book." Igor sprays to Syllyn. Then he turns to his master smiles horribly and says: "Oh we're all Igorth up there in the highlandth, Mathter. I cam down from the mountainth becauthe I make friendth thow eathily." Igor looks fondly at his homonculus.
Syllyn

I assumed that the nature of its being a cypher would not be apparent until I could read the text and the character would have used the scroll had he not known it was cyphered.

ROFL @ Viisik!
Sune looks at the trove of documents.
"There is no way we can go through all of this now. We must go back and report that we have found these documents," she says, turning toward the door.
| GM Faelyn |
LMAO! I love you guys!
Syllyn utilizes his scroll and finds that while he can now understand the language itself, he cannot make any sense of the encrypted text... More time and research will be required before the true value of these items can be determined. Suffice to say, you all have made a very important discovery for the Pathfinder Society! If you all are ready to depart?
